If you're ok with a bigger van than the Transporter, then it's a great package. The one thing that I think lets it down and others of this size like the Grand Cali is the seating. Captains chairs are great, but the other seats look really uncomfortable. No recline angle at all which I think would severely compromise comfort in the evenings and for rear passengers.
Nice review. We have a Hymer Free 600 Campus on the Ducato chassis on order from there. We ordered it July 2021 and were supposed to get it March 2022. Now looking at Feb 2023. Ive never waited that long for anything in my life! You can review ours if we ever get it, we live in Warsash!
Great video, thank you, I think the Hymers are the best conversions, and would happily upgrade from my Cali coast T6.1, but would choose the fixed top two berth to get more light into the van, and avoid additional weight up top. The best thing of all are the drawers, so many campervans including the Calis only have cupboards.
I have a 2015 plate sprinter with 75k mike's ... It was professionally converted and including the van the total cost was 21k ... Other than the elevated bed and a few gadgets a fail to see the return on investment
I just test drove the Grand Cali and the Free 600 (not the blue) you forgot to mention that the G-Cali has 8 gears, the sprinter has 9. In my opinion the Sprinter was considerably quieter and smoother ride. Hope to collect my 600 in July (2023 that is)
I have Lane departure warning on my Audi I absolutely hate it. It ges confused all the time and randomly steers the car you can't turn it off permanently, you have to go through the menu system to turn it off if turn the engine off
It's a nice van, but for £80,000 I do think it could do with more. More sockets, a solar panel or two. There's no excuses for minimalist interiors when you're charging almost the cost of a house for a van
i love the idea of side pods , put the bed width-ways & gain floor-space .. i guess they couldn't make one pod any bigger because it would get hit by the sliding door ??
Hi Guys,...fab video (again)!! We finally after 13mts wait and 6wk conversion, got our hands on our T6.1 conversion. We also have a very similar fly screen on the sliding door. Hope to see you at BusFest. All the best!!
Sorry for a moment I thought you said it’s 80k, 😂😂😂😂😂. 60k spec for 80k, they are smoking some strong stuff at Hymer. Maybe they are trying to tap into the VW people who think 70k for a tiny van with a toy kitchen is reasonable.
Thanks for taking your time to show this Hymer. Personally if I was to pay £80k I’d expect the outside trim to be colour coded. Makes it look cheap. That said a very nice van… I wondering what I could build if I had £80k 🤪👍😉
Hate to be a little negative here but like the last video I can’t tell if this is a sales promotion video or something else. The line is very blurred. TBH the older content such as the Grand Cali loan was a little more organic, even if a semi-promo, and content like the crafter build, recent holidays or the solar panels much more “on brand”. Opinions though - Take it or leave it.
Sold my california ocean & bought hymer free s, best 👌 thing I did, mine is a 5 berth the dinning table area turns also into a bed , electric handbrake no silly lever, 😜 👍
Believe it or not it’s not a colour for me but I’d have should the funds be available I’d have her in either NATO grey or all linex it because for as long as I’ve owned off-road vehicles,my current one is an old Bedford rl conversion portakabin on the bed and it does me just right with front and rear 10 ton winches. Oh sure it is manky she’s always kept my dry when raining or snowing and very warm due to a proper pot bellied stove
Y'all are so lucky in Europe to have such a great range of camper vans for so cheap. In the States (US) the selections are limited, the quality lower, and the prices astronomically higher. Imagine paying the equivalent of upwards of $200k USD (which incredibly is about $203 Euro right now, wow, when did that happen?) for a camper van? That's what Airstream class B RVs (Mercedes Spinter chassis based campervan) cost here.
Smart looking van but designed more for European style camping. To me the travel seats look very upright so not a comfortable place to sit and relax. Awning needed for extra living space plus there's no cooker. Extending the sides to allow a transverse bed is interesting but it means you lose the benefit of a narrower vehicle over a wider (but more) spacious motorhome. Being a Hymer it will be great build quality.
I am always surprised that they conversions go to great detail on the interior with fit and finish but do half a job on the outside. Blue van with lots of grey plastic cut outs, just makes the outside look cheap, yet they all do it.
To be honest the interior looks very basic - a bit like a self assembly flat pack kitchen- all screwed together with loads of screw cap covers. How long before they fall out - especially on the raised floor.
No mechanical fans for moisture management anywhere nor an AC. Clearly not a van intended for anything but perfect weather and very light cooking if at all inside… nice color but it needs finessing the bits I mentioned
Nice van and super video as usual. I think the Fiat Ducato base might be better value.... we bought a Grand Canyon in late 2018 and despite what another comment has suggested, the quality of the build has been fantastic - only issue has been the electric step. If anything, the later models both Free and Gran Canyon, Yosemite etc seem to have less storage...we've yet to fill all of ours even with dog and goodies...
I thinks it's very well thought out. You will pay a premium for a German base vehicle and the hymer name but compare this to custom built vw t6.1 vans and it represents good value for money. Really like the look of the black one........ four wheel drive hopefully 🤙
Seeing ur amazing presentation made me subscribe,my ideal van but it would be better if it includes solar panel. Thanks anyway & excited for the nxt episode...👏👏👏
Good review. A bit utilitarian for me and the ‘free’ branding is a bit weird. Sure it will find a market though - probably for folks with kids rather than empty nesters.
The longest wheel base Sprinter van is 42 grand and they put a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, 2 overhead lockers , a bed, a dining table and a hob with sink and a rubbish bathroom. For 80k unbelievable, no internal space for a normal sized adult. Crazy. You can buy a brand new motor home for a lot less. With tons of storage, proper shower and kitchen and 4 times the storage. These are nuts for buying a converted van which will rust just like a builders van, especially with all the cut outs in the panels. Not a good investment, atleast with a proper motor home the living quarters are either, plastic or fibreglass which don't rust. Think about it.
Will outlast your motor home with all its, seals. Had a very nice motorhome. But it leaked. Downsized to a Timberland Endeavour. Much more robust. And cheaper to run. Plus spec is so much higher. No gas bottle electric step. Electric awning. List goes on.
Nice van but you can get a lot more for a lot less, I guessing you pay for the name. And When getting a van I will always make sure it has a near side sliding door which this lacks.
And the outdoor gas tap and water filler are slap bang in the middle of the graphics - poor planning. I'd look at a Wildax before looking at this. Over priced.
Yet another camper with a suicide door, ok if your mainly traveling the EU etc but there’s an obvious trend in buyers outnumbering supply so anything will do scenario. On another note, how unfinished does the cab look with bare metal showing around the seat bases, this is a nice conversion but so many minor details could be easily addressed to make this an awesome camper.

It looks like a six berth. The double along the back, another double where the dining area is and another double upstairs?
The big black side strips I assume are where the wings fold out. I’d expect that at the price
A little standard floorplan.....I hope yours will be better
