To prevent freezing of the water tanks while in use, we include a hot water recirculation loop. Or, as with all RV’s, you can winterize the system. Some manufacturers use heating pads but being based here in California, this particular build won’t see too many freezing days. As far as solar goes, adding more panels means giving up the ability to move around on the roof rack. Plus most of the power comes from the alternator so adding another panel, while nice to max out the solar, is too big of a trade off vs roof access. Space is at a premium so we have to make some tough decisions.
I would take the additional solar over the roof access all day long. Wouldn’t want to have to run the engine often to keep things charged up. Looks like more could easily be added if that was someone’s preference.
I concur about preferring extra solar panels in lieu of roof access. Most people aren’t going to us the roof access for cargo or sightseeing as much as they would expect. Better to use the space for solar, A/C, and vents.
Beautiful build. I agree with some of the other writers…. why not more solar? In our 170 4x4 3500 Sprinter build (another builder) will have 4 of the Zamp 90 watt long panels on an Aluminess rack, Max air fan and Nomadic 12 volt AC. They worked hard to get everything on there by elevating the solar panels and placing them along either side of the fan and AC. We will still have deck space towards the rear of the van. No sky light. We didn’t want that because of heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter.
Thank you for sharing this van. So many really good features. For the second video please include: 1) separate sliding screen door? 2) toilet type (cassette)? 3) power sliding door? 4) mattress width and length? 5) weight of build (e.g. w.r.t. to payload)? 6) is this 170 a 4x4? 7) are all windows 'aftermarket' (e.g. sliding door, side windows and, in particular, the rear windows?) (you said this started as a cargo van with 'no' windows)? 8) inverter size? 9) insulation (and looks like back doors are not insulated)? 10) the 'low profile' inside of the AC is great (so is the shower stall from VanLand) . Thanks for expaining below the solar system size below. All the best! Greg
I did not like the coverage in the toilet. preferred pain white or off white. In Africa, we would rather have the step ladder linked to the spare wheel at the rear, where the wheel also acts as a step ladder. Like the water tank underneath, but must be fitted into an insulated container. Liked the 17 " off-road -on-road tires. Would like to come to America, and try the van first before importing them as a franchise dealer
My Question is , Why you didn't provide a larger solar system to support 600 Ah of lithium bat's . I get the Dc to Dc charger , is good ; but who wants to hear their motor running while catching peaceful serenity @ camp ? ( especially running a 12v A/C )
Hi Alpha- this is a question we get a lot. Here's why we only included one 100 watt solar panel on this build. First, there's only room for 300 watts of solar at most on the roof rack in this design since we have a roof fan, air conditioner and skylight to work around. By adding even one more panel, there would be no room left to move around on the roof rack which is a major bummer and not a trade off worth making for an extra 6-12 amps of power generation (in full sun). Secondly, there's plenty of battery storage to run the air conditioner all day without starting the engine. So, we agree, no one wants to run the engine in order to run the A/C. Thankfully that doesn't ever happen with this design. Ideally, you start your trip with full batteries and every time the vehicle is driven, the alternator is supplying 30-50 amps of power to charge the batteries. A secondary alternator will give you 100+ amps of power. The solar panels contribute a little bit of power when the sun is out, but there's simply no way to have enough solar on the roof to keep up with the power demand of a 12v A/C. We would need to put 600+ watts of solar (at least) to keep up with the A/C and there just isn't enough room for that on the roof considering the other equipment. So, a better strategy is to add some additional battery storage and a good alternator charger and park in the shade when running the A/C. Believe me, we love solar power, but it does have it's limitations and the space required to get significant power generation from solar is the one big downside. Looking forward to future generations of solar panels that pack more power collection into every square inch!
@@VanLand ok that makes sense , the cost of limited space. thanks for taking the time to respond. I am planning to swap out my A/C for a 12v , i do have 850W of solar to support 400ah of lithium with dual 220 amp alternators , so it should be worth it. ~peace~
Fantastic build! My favorite color too! Is there a sink in the wet bath? And please tell us how much this build-out cost. I am thinking of getting a ford chassis. If I can afford this build, I'm in!
100 watts of solar doesn't seem to be enough for a true off grid multi-day experience. How long do you estimate your clients can run this van without needing to plug in and charge? Can you re-charge the power via the van engine? Also, seems like the bed would be uncomfortable sleeping without a headboard for neck/head comfort and insulation insert of some kind on cold nights. Have you had any feedback from the owners on that? And finally, with all that glass exposure, can this rig handle adventures during all four seasons?
As someone else had mentioned, how do you keep the water from freezing in the tanks, given that they're under slung, and apparently exposed to weather? If the owners want to go off road, how are the tanks protected? I live in the Northeast, and these are issues for me on a planned build.
I would say they did , stock suspension just can’t endure that change of weight especially when it’s constantly loaded and it’s obviously heavier than it was before
Curious about the shower drain clearance to the water tank on the driver's side. I would love to see a detail about that. Really beautiful build. Thank you for sharing.
What about insect screen door for the main door and perhaps the back? I would like to have a van similar to this but with mtn bike storage in the back underneath the bed. How long does it take you to finish a van once it is ordered? Do you have a waiting list?
Im curious how much will this van cost with all the same features?? How do you manage so that the water tank doesn’t freeze if you take it on a winter snow camp?
As far as I can tell, custom builders charge $130,000 and up for this. So, add that to a $65-75k chassis. The total cost ends up being ridiculous. You can buy an off-the-lot/factory 144" version of this for $135,000. So, the at-the-dealership cost plus $10k in after-market upgrades. The 144" is a compromise in that you will lose storage or the hangout area, but is having both worth $80k more? That seem crazy to me. Hopefully, the volume brands will start building smarter 170s.
@@thedalillama I would say your pretty spot on , its alot of money to spend on a weekend camper. In my personal opinion, save half your money by buying a used F 250 or 2500 and put a used truck camper on the back. Bc at least you still got a truck to drive around

Awesome build but for 100wat solar panel way too low to recharge the 600amp batteries, with 12v a/c, water heater, water pump and fridge. That long hours of drive (alternator)to top up the battery back 100%.
Absolutely love this Van! I have seen many and this one looks like the best of all even in video. Does anyone knows approximately how much one of these goes for?
Really nice van. I enjoyed the video, however the background music behind the narration was maddening. I ended up switching to closed captioning and muted my speakers just so I could finish watching. Maybe consider turning down the music if you feel it is necessary.
Awesome van. Literally the only thing I would change if it were mine (and it's very minor) for the cabinet with the gauges, I would make it glass or some other translucent material so I could see the gauges without having to open the cabinet. Again, such a minor change, but I think it would be next level.
I would prefer a rear configuration of a backseat and side lounge seats that electrically converts to a bed. When not using it as a bed, you have extra seating while driving or lounge area when parked. Plus it would give it an open/more spacious feel rather than having a dedicated bed occupying a third of the van.
That’s a good design concept. But in reality, most people prefer a bed that is made and doesn’t have to be out away and set up every day. Having said that, I agree it gives a more spacious feeling. Thanks for watching!
Ha, there are other options as well. The subway tile does have a subway look.

Great video! One thing I noticed is the slow fade of brightness during the headlines pop up. IMO just leave the text as you got it, but skip the fade darkening part. It takes away from the video, cuz im looking at you talking then all of a sudden it gets darker, I think my screen is dimming or something.
Well done! What tire size are you using? Greetings from Europe, I'm also converting a 170 with windows all around (it came like that) Edit: it looks like 255/70R17?
Is that an Inhabit Design Works floor up front? That’s what I used in my build and I absolutely love it. Plus, Brian and John are great to work with. The fronts are standard dimensions, but they can also do a full custom floor cover from the back of the front seats to the rear of the van.
It looks very nice but I wonder if it is worth spending all this money if I won't be able to find secluded enough spaces to enjoy my privacy. What's the autonomy of this van? Can I go off grid for two continuous weeks?
You weren’t kidding when you said This van really does have everything. With that being said, you guys did a phenomenal job in using all of the interior space very wisely. At no point do you feel cramped while being inside. The fact that you have a lounge area that can sit 2 people very comfortably with an additional 3rd person if need be, without compromising the space of the galley area is quite amazing. I was also very amazed by how large the shower/bathroom area is and how it doesn’t feel like it affects the overall amount of space. When you compare these two areas with the Revel, it’s clear that Winnebago did not do them Justice the way you guys did with this build. Overall this van is absolutely amazing and Anyone who lives on the open road or does any kind of off roaring would be more than happy to own a rig like this!
Great build, defiantly one of the best I’ve seen. For winter what do you do about the outdoor water tanks? Also did / could you add outdoor shower, and drop down table from the “kitchen” cabinet?
Love the build and I enjoy watching all your videos. However, I do have one suggestion, when you are showing us the roof rack, ask your camper person to pan down and really show us the roof rack as you are talking about it. I mean, that was the whole point wasn’t it? It’s not that I don’t like you, but I really wanted to see the roof rack!

Hey! Hi there guys ! If I asked you to built me another van like this one you are showing right on this video ! ! ! Would you get those water tanks and all fluid tuberies insulated ? You know, for low temps ; I'll probably be moving to Minnesota . . . . . with that also ; how do you do on the insulation in the walls through out all the van ? How would you describe it ?
One of the best van builds ever, did you say what size inverter and is the water tank heated? Also on insulation I noticed the back door was bare metal, where did you insulate and with what materials?
Ok, this is my favorite overall build. I want more space but a smaller footprint than a big adventure truck. I would want a winch up front and maybe a swing out back storage box. Load up on more solar but this is the exact size I would love to have
I just bought a 144" Sprinter build, but thought the 170" makes so much more sense. You can have both under-bed storage and a reasonable hangout/dining area. Unfortunately, the upgrade appears to cost $85,000 and 6-8 additional months. That's just ridiculous.
Awesome simple and yet sophisticated design. Looks like itbhas everything you need for short trips or full-time living. Would it be easy to add a security system to track outside activity? What does the garage look like? What is the price and lead time if I wanted to purchase this exact van? Overall, nice job.
This is by far the most practical layout i've seen , many other company have weired design such as burner right beside bed , super small toilet ,lots of storage drawer but no closet to hang , some of the clothes you just don't want to fold them into little cube , this is good .
Love it! Is that shower really only 30×24 @vanwife? Wow! You mentioned faux subway tike so it it stick on? All this in a 170 non extended? That is exactly my van size. I keep waffling on layout 😤
I normally am very critical of van builds but you guys have covered everything I would require if I had the money to buy one. You actually have a place to hang clothes and I have to say I want your van so bad. Perfect
Great van! I am planning my cabinet drawers now so it would be great if you talked about and showed the drawer sliders that you have that push to open and soft close automatically. I am going for the faceless / inset drawers also. Thanks!
Nice build except air conditioning would rather have a couple fantastic air or max air fans for ventilation also should look into the nautical shower door takes less space plus no door to get in the way just my opinion
Is there additional room on the roof for more solar? 100 won’t help much for a long off grid trip. Other than that I think it’s fabulous! Could you also show the garage, please? And most importantly, what’s the grand total for all this goodness??
Awesome build- thanks for sharing. This is quite a van!! Did you include garage space? If so, please share…Mimic the concerns/question around weather with the tanks- is there a way to avoid freezing in elements? Noticed some space above front of van, head space- can you give dimensions of the additional space there? Looks like some potential storage in addition to the amount already present. So cool!!
Really nice build! Just the right amount of rugged outside and that client chosen color is perfect. Super job on the inside especially with the flares for the bed. I always wonder though why are they not wider or taller and more commonly used. You could almost have half of a slide a side. Loved the tour ... Cheers
2 person (leaving the kids at home) travel seating on a 170 and 1 single swivel seat, feel questionable. Roof module livability, mesh metal surface for sitting - ok, remaining good roof storage area limited around the vent, sky, a/c cut-outs, within rack side bars. 100w solar, powered sites only or running the engine with a good alternator upgrade is life + $ dc charge system. Choose between running huge A/C, and fridge cycles / AC accessories. 400Li min battery? Very interested to know the tar weight it came in at and MPg
To everyone out there thinking of buying a van especially if you are thinking of hauling freight , RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH !! I thought I knew what I was doing and bought an awesome Ford Transit 350 HD All Wheel Drive High Roof Long Wheel base Dually thinking I could haul any and all freight only to learn too late that YOU CANNOT HAUL FREIGHT WITH A DUALLY VAN !! THE WIDTH INSIDE BETWEEN THE WHEEL WELLS IS TOO NARROW !! Now I am trying to trade for a Sprinter . JUST TRYING TO SAVE OTHERS AGGRAVATION . I love VANLAND AND THEIR BUILDS JUST BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING !!!Than You for sharing !!
Hi. Awesome van build 👏 I love it 👌 this would almost be my dream build including the colour. My question would be do you do an overseas service because I would be really interested. In one of your builds on a right hand drive chassis exported to England although I could probably arrange the shipping etc myself. Just a case of price and lead time ? Kind Regards. Wayne.
This Van has everything: exotic green paint, a killer stereo and a midget named Steve running on a treadmill in the cargo area to power your generator.
Great van, however, unfortunately it is not well insulated. Top insulation is a must for very hot and very cold (-20ish F). Belly and tanks need be fully insulated and heated as well. Would this be something you could do?
“If you’re interested in learning more about our power options, we will put a video right here…” 5:53 And… nothing. Where is that video buddy? We needs to know more! ❤😊 Ditto on the A/c system at 8:00 🤓
Is there an outside shower off the back? Can I get bug nets? What about the space under the bed from behind? This is exactly what I'm looking for! Nice Build!
Credit for solid craftsmanship but there is no excuse to leave exposed metal on the doors and elsewhere. When you are sleeping and its 5 degrees outside and your bare skin hits that bare metal, the 100k price tag is going to feel really silly. Props for a 9/10 van build, but the common oversights with the pro builders is getting tiring.
How do you keep the watertank from freezing in cold temps? Why not more solar panels up top? One seems inadequate.
To prevent freezing of the water tanks while in use, we include a hot water recirculation loop. Or, as with all RV’s, you can winterize the system. Some manufacturers use heating pads but being based here in California, this particular build won’t see too many freezing days.

Thanks for the tip!
Meh..... Very basic
Ah
The color really pops great job! #VanLife #BoonDocking #City boondocking

Can you give a ballpark build cost? This van checks all the boxes for our future build. Why was there only one solar panel?
How would you
describe it ?
One of the best van builds ever, did you say what size inverter and is the water tank heated? Also on insulation I noticed the back door was bare metal, where did you insulate and with what materials?
Love your van build except for trying out the bed with your shoes on.
Ha ha, fair enough! Thank you.
Love it wish I could afford one
Amazing build! Did you use a water heater? if so, which one?
6:14 🤔
It should for 225,000 dollars
Hi. Love the van. Am doing a sprinter in the UK at the moment. How are you heating hot water for shower and faucet?
Nice 150K$ camper build. Certainly not everyone's budget.
Nice... i like how companies are finally taking tips from European manufacturers like Bi mobile etc.
They really make a superior product.
New to this... What type of price tag are we looking at here?
The link below will send you to a pricing breakdown of the cost of this van:)

Lovely look. What's with the space next to the smaller seat (where the worktop extension is). I saw you stood there. What's the design idea behind it?
So Beautiful and Appealing… You did a fabulous job and anyone would be very fortunate to Own this and get to use it…….
I normally am very critical of van builds but you guys have covered everything I would require if I had the money to buy one. You actually have a place to hang clothes and I have to say I want your van so bad. Perfect
Thank you very much Tony.
@@VanLand Building vans for a living would be my dream. Do you guys do apprenticeships? xD
you sound like a bundle of joy
Sure let’s talk.
@@VanLand Seriously!? Do you have a website or email i can contact?
Wow I think this is the perfect van size and style and lay out
Great van! I am planning my cabinet drawers now so it would be great if you talked about and showed the drawer sliders that you have that push to open and soft close automatically. I am going for the faceless / inset drawers also. Thanks!
This van is my dream build! If y'all are looking to giveaway a van let me know lol! Keep up the great work so inspiring
Nice build except air conditioning would rather have a couple fantastic air or max air fans for ventilation also should look into the nautical shower door takes less space plus no door to get in the way just my opinion
How much do these conversions cost on average?
Anywhere from $50k to $200k is typical.
Didn’t show the garage. Can you fit bikes in there.
Is there additional room on the roof for more solar? 100 won’t help much for a long off grid trip. Other than that I think it’s fabulous! Could you also show the garage, please? And most importantly, what’s the grand total for all this goodness??
אם משתמשים בטעינה ע"י האלטרנטור של הרכב זה מספיק
220k
Too bad couldn't incorporate pushout windows for cross vent when AC not wanted, or when light raining.
you didn't cover the garage area if there was one under the bed. That would be great if you would.
What kind of toilet?
Excuth me? But did you say “Arctic Tern”??? 7:10
“BACKSTREET BOYS!!!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those who know will know
Awesome build- thanks for sharing.
Cheers
it could be the nicest build in the world, if its on a mercedes sprinter it a POS. mercedes is garbage.
Thanks for the useful input!
Instructions to cameraman: STOP POINTING IT AT THE NARRATOR. Show the product, not the salesman. I gave up after 4 minutes. Bye.
Wow, but question is how much does something like this cost? thank you for the video!
Wayne.
What an awesome build, that is the perfect van. Liked and subscribed.
This Van has everything: exotic green paint, a killer stereo and a midget named Steve running on a treadmill in the cargo area to power your generator.
I'm curious, as someone who is 6'4", would I fit into the bed?
Probably best to do a north-south sleeping config in your case.
@@VanLand Thank you for the answer!
Great van, however, unfortunately it is not well insulated. Top insulation is a must for very hot and very cold (-20ish F). Belly and tanks need be fully insulated and heated as well. Would this be something you could do?
Rookie question …as you travel in America where can you park safely overnight? Are there designated spots , frequent places off the USA highways ?
Wow I fell in love with van. I need one I'm always traveling in my outback
Nice Build!
Lovely, great idea with the leather. Where'd you find the interior lighting love those!
