College players who stay more then 3 years are already developed as players. There is such a long list of players who went to the draft too early and took them like 2-3 years to develop as a player in the NBA. Then there's players who get injured because there bodies are still developing such as Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid and Greg Odon.
Bill Mitchell except that Embiid is now 26 on a max as well as having been paid his high lotto salary. if he waited, besides potentially losing out on draft stock cause of injury, he wouldn’t have gotten to that rookie extension at the same time and his career would be 4 contracts long instead of 5. By asking guys to stay 2-3 years more you’re asking them to leave millions on the table, which doesn’t make sense for them financially.

Calipari said players should stay 2 years if they and their families are properly compensated which is illegal. So in actuality he’s saying they need to leave after a year if they’re a projected first round pick. The system is a shame because they are not properly compensating players and even demonizing that aspect. They love to say education should be their payment. Funny thing is the institution is making millions off of them.
2 points to make..1) there is no guarantee that UK would be able to load up on talent like they have been..its one thing for a kid to commit having the belief that the kids that committed a year prior were most likely leaving,giving them a chance to play,and committing knowing you might end up like Marcus Lee and Dakari Johnson,2 top HS players that barely saw the floor in their 1st 2 years because the team had too much talent and not enough opportunity which resulted in them watching their draft stock plummet 2) If Duke, KU, UNC, AZ all were able to load up on talent, then they ALL would have teams good enough to stop UK..UK only has that type of advantage if noone else is loading up on future NBA talent..and as I have already said, they wouldnt be the only programs to do that..
The NCAA needs to have the same rule for basketball as they do for football: that players aren't eligible to enter the Draft until after their junior year.
