    Love the sneak appearance of the teletext signal… I bet that’s decodable…

      I'll be doing some decoding of teletext in a future video. 😊

      Do you have a VTC 5350 as well? I saw it in one of your video thumbnails. I have one with its user and service manuals. Love them too!

      Betacord and BetaHiFi are Sanyo's marketing names for Betamax.
      Betacam is the professional version of the Betamax cassette format with a different recording type (YUV) or recording type + tape material (Metal Tape) than Betamax (Colorunder).

      Yes, Betamax was only used by Sony. Beta for everyone else and Sanyo's Betacord.

    M40 is my dream machine but being from the Czech Republic I´ll never be able to obtain one. This model was never available here (the same goes for other Betamax machines) and they seem to be fantastically rare even elsewhere.

      I will be selling one - not to sure on how much it would cost to send to you and the overall cost might work out too much but I can let you know?

      @@MrBetaByte Sure thing, absolutely! The shipping is not a big deal. I´m not sure if RUclips has any private messages or something but we can talk via Facebook and/or e-mail. Is there any way to contact you outside of this thread? EDIT: I found the e-mail in your channel description. Is it OK?

    11:48 The VTC-M40 seems to be the only Sanyo machine to suffer from excessive head wear. I may have a scrap machine somewhere if you need some parts.

      I have heard this before about the excessive head wear on these machines - maybe excessive back tension? I'll have to check with the Sony back tension cassette and I'll pop it in the next video I do on these. 😊

      @@MrBetaByte A lot of the Beta HiFi electronics in the VTC-M40 is sourced from Sony. So it just leaves me wondering if the heads were built by Sony on this model.

    Ive always wondered why the PAL version of this machine is rarer than the VCR 7200 NTSC machine which is quite common on Ebay US, apart from a few small differences they are virtually identical, more disposeable income in America versus UK maybe? and those who had the money in this country probably opted for the more sopisticated Sony Machines and by 1984 beta was starting to be on its way out. As top of the range as this is its still a pretty basic machine. I hate the loud noises they make when loading too.

    • @MrBetaByte
      @MrBetaByte  Месяц назад

      I think Betamax had pretty much lost out by the time BetaHiFi came to be in the UK. I suppose it's relative too that people were more inclined to hold on to the more expensive models 'just in case' . Of course the US version is only a two head machine as opposed to the PAL version that needed separate heads for the Hi-Fi side which maybe pushed the price up? Interesting observation and question though. I do wonder how much more expensive the Sony HF100 was compared to the M40, like you say, if it was negligible, the Sony would have been the preferred choice I think.

    Why did I have to think of Boeing as intact Flap and very often were brought together in one sentence.

    I have one of these. Would a BNC>HDMI converter let me connect it to a modern TV?

    • @MrBetaByte
      @MrBetaByte  2 месяца назад

      It would but they can be pretty poor quality. One workaround is to pick up a late VCR like the Panasonic EZ48 that has composite and scart on the front and back but an HDMI output.
