Summer-and-winter and overshot are my two favourite weaves! In fact, I just finished a summer-and-winter coverlet in blue and natural. The catch was that I wove it on my four-foot floor loom which meant that I had to weave two lengths and then hand-stitch them together up the center. I had to pay very close attention to how I was beating in order to maintain the same number of throws per inch. Also, since the two panels were going to be joined at the selvedges, the outer pattern had to be a "half-repeat" plus a couple of "fudge" threads to accommodate draw-in. It went a lot faster than it sounds, mainly because I absolutely LOVE weaving summer-and-winter!
Thanks again for the crisp & clear explanation. Overshot was on my to do list no 1, but I will follow your recommendations to start with S & W first. Thanks 🌈🌷
Well, I tried summer and winter from that book and ripped (ok, cut) the warp off the loom since it looked like...bad. This was a year ago. Then I tried it again about 6 month ago...same thing. Keep in mind, I LOVE overshot. Always beautiful, complex, and cool. I just finished a coverlet in black and cream that is stunning. Until now, after seeing your video, I missed the instruction for TABBY! Keep the videos coming, cause I don't know everything...like I thought. Just don't tell anyone. Cheers!!
Thanks to share it! I love Summer-and-Winter patterns but i didn't knew the name. Now I know! ;D It is possible weave this type of pattern in a rigid heddle loom? Thanks!
Does Summer and Winter create floats similar to the floats in overshot? I am locking for a weave structure in which i can get the complex look of overshot but with no floats. Any suggestions?
Great question!! Yes, summer & winter will create longer floats. But if you like a complex-looking pattern with minimal floats, I would recommend crackle! Here's a quick video to give you an overview - ruclips.net/video/K7V5V2Ouyrk/видео.html
