    This was me and I still struggle to this day. it’s a very painful way to live. I am grateful there is awareness now

      when I try to speak to strangers without any fear, my voice sounds a bit weird and they usually can't hear it clearly or something

    This happened to me in elementary school, I’m now almost 50yo. the teachers used to give me an A for behavior.
    But by the grace of God I grew out of it when I began working a job while in high school. My family was poor so I knew that work was inevitable. I think this realization coupled with the good work environment is what helped me overcome this.

    Wow, so moving! Selective mutism is treatable and most people dont even know how to diagnose it!

      @@Lovely-vd5ss Find a therapist who specializes in SM. It is treatable with small steps of exposure therapy. There are a few books out there. Start with "Selective Mutism" by Aimee Kotrba. My son's therapist says she follows the methods in this book and she's seen many people overcome SM!
