Nihongo

Education of language has great importance in ethnic communities in the United States. Because language condition people’s everyday life, cultural practice, social network and even identity, Japanese and Japanese American parents in the States always face the issue when they have children: some want their kids to learn Japanese, others want them to become more American. Based on interviews to local people from Nisei who experienced internment to younger generation of Japanese American who learn Japanese on the Internet and recent immigrants after WW2, Nihongo explorers various ideas and thoughts on Japanese language education among Japanese and Japanese Americans in Los Angeles.
