    Don't know what a pileup is like on phone but on CW its amazing when it happens. Its been a couple years, with the fluctuating band conditions that I've experienced a good pileup for any contest. You look like you enjoyed yourself. That's one of the fun things about this hobby. Best 73 KB8AMZ

    Great job on your guys FD. Appears everyone had a blast like our club CLARC in Alexandria, la did over the weekend.We operated as N5I. We ran some serious pileups all weekend especially on 20 which I stayed on throughout the entire 24 hrs. I was actually by myself on 20 with everyone else in the club taking a break getting some breakfast Sunday morning about 6:30 AM & all of sudden I thought I started hearing things as the Icom 7300 next to me started blasting straight through the headphones on 15 meters. I looked over and Waterfall which was blank 5 minutes earlier when I glanced over was lit up with solid signals. I hurried up to shout out to guys in other room for someone to come jump on 15 and by the time I turned around the other station down which was on 10 meters came alive. We had that room jamming working pileup after pileup on 20-15 & 10. It sure was fun to look at the Laptop and watch all those QSO's strolling like lightning on the screen LOL. The few of us who stayed up the entire 24 hours were dragging when it came time to take everything down and pack up, especially in this 105 Heat Index La. Weather we had. Lucky we operated out of AC building LOL.

    Man I love this. For Field day 2018 my brother as I went to our Mom and Dads up by Clare Michigan and set up in their yard. They have about 10 acres. It was fun. It was just him and I and we did some 20, 40 I think we did some 10 and I know we did some digital (I don’t remember what one). Have a good one. Hope to hear you on the bands.

      We liked the trailer. We will be looking for a way to run the coax and power differently and look for a way reduce the mosquitoes next year.

    Awesome event! I am a Mac user as well, use MacloggerDX do you? If so do you use the ipad version for portable? I ran N1MM on mac using Parallels for field day this year...

      Thanks, this was what really got me hooked on working a pileup. I use a program called Aether on my Mac. For portable I use HamLog on my iPad.

    Did the young girl get her license a few yesrs back at Dayton Hamvention? When I tested, I sat next to a 9 year old girl. I think her dad said they were from Michigan. I remember his call sign had 3 w's in a row and someone commenting that was a lot of whiskey. 73's

    The 891 looks sweet. But I don't see any need to abandon my 857D in favor of the 891. Not enough new features to make it feasible.

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  4 года назад +1

      If you've got the 857 you've got one hell of a radio. For me, I got into HF when the 891 was brand new~ish. It didn't make sense for my operating style (primarily HF portable) to go with the 857. The 891 just seemed the way to go for me. At the time, all the RUclips guys that I watched were still using the 857 or 817. Tony K9ARV, now N4ARV got me into portable ops. He had such a great RUclips channel but deleted it for reasons unknown. But then the reviews came out and I decided to go this way and I'm really glad I did. I'd love to have a sit down with both to compare the two though.

      @@hamradiotube I just added a IC-7300 to my shack last week. Not sure what the fate of the 857D will be now.
