      @Josh by loser do you mean; someone with an infectious excitement for Amateur Radio, someone who makes videos to educate and inspire people or someone who works to grow our hobby? When I call someone a loser it's generally aimed at bitter men who spend their time posting negative comments on RUclips. 👍

    Nice work! I ran a battery powered FT817 set up at home, remotely controlled by an iPad through VNC. It is connected to a Raspberry Pi 3B and a Signallink SL1+ (USB on the way, shipping times are awful) Jerry rigged to work with everything. Batteries are a LIPO4 6ah from Amazon and a Lion 6ah pack to run the Pi and Signalink. Made some PSK31 and JS8 contacts throughout the day all while tending to my pool boy duties! Antenna is a W3EDP at 40 feet. Solar is next along with an FT891.

    • @hamradiotube

      Nice. Seems like the digital qrp guys had a little more luck than the ssb guys. I assume your pool boy duties included doing as little as possible while making sure you drank your beer just fast enough so it doesn't get warm. Solar is awesome btw.

    Mike, thank you for the video! I was particularly pleased to see the DXC antenna up and operational. I've been meaning to order one for nearly a year now, but keep putting off. Well, no longer will I dilly-dally. After hearing the 10m contacts that clinched the deal for me. I live in NW Indiana in Lake County. I am currently the VP of the Lake County ARC and sadly as a club we decided to operate solo this year. Two weeks ago we had a wind gust of >90 mph that brought down one of my 32' masts that supported my G5RV Jr. antenna. I've not gotten it back up yet so instead I tried both my Buddi Pole Deluxe and my Wolf River Coils TA portable antennas.
    Sadly neither one really performed well from my front yard. I tried both my IC7300 and the Xiegu G80. While the G90 received marginally better than the 7300. No contacts were made. I finally sat in my Toyota Camry and fired up my FT-857 and the ATAS120 antenna and quickly made 15 contacts on 20m and another 8 on 40m! Go figure. Hopefully things will have improved enough to have our annual Indiana Parks on the Air event in the latter part of September as a club.

      That sucks about your tower coming down. DX Commander for the win though. This is the more portable "Expedition" model that I was using. I also just got the DX Commander classic that I need to put up. Thats interesting the G90 received better than the 7300. My only gripe w/ the g90 is no noise reduction. It was def hard making contacts this year with all the 1D stations working each other. You weren't alone in the struggle. I didn't even think to use my Little Tarheel but good that you had luck on the mobil. Thanks for watching. 73

      I prefer to interpret my own rules. Ham radio is already a social distancing hobby so what we did I feel is within the bounds of all this human malware virus stuff. Maybe that's why he wasn't there until the end...to limit exposure.

Made 3 qrp contacts on 40, a few on 40 100 watts and a few on 80. Helped a few stations get points anyway. 10 meters has been stretching its legs a bit lately. We have a nightly local group on 10 meters ground wave vertical and some nights this past month or so we get some southern stations popping in. When 10 meters opens its hot, but you go from 20db over s9 to no copy real quick sometimes.

    I have a question. You showed both the Powerwerx Volt Meter: & a clone based volt meter for RC in this F/D 2020 video. I've looked online at both. Seems to me there is aprox $45 difference in price for what seems to be the same thing except for the label/branding, and/or the Power Poles connectors being added. Do they have the same menu functions? (The RC version didn't list any specs like Powerwerx ad did.) For $45 I can put my own Power Poles on. Gotta pinch pennies till I get rehired somewhere.
    BTW Thanks for the F/D video. Being a "poster child" due to being in several of the categories for strict isolation, I'm still hiding from the world. So it was a nice change to watch.
    73

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  4 года назад

      They are exactly the same in every way other than their accuracy. The PowerWerx is very accurate. The other 2 cheap $15 ones I have are about .1-.2 volts less (at least) and don't count amp hours as accurately. Voltage isn't the most important thing with LiFePO4 batteries as it stays pretty constant until they are about to die. Amp hours however, are how I really tell how much capacity is left in my cells. Now, do the cheap ones work? Mostly yes. Could you get by with them, yes, just not quite as accurately. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. Hope this helps answer your question.

I think the ARRL rule makers sat around a table and brainstormed what would be the dumbest, most difficult way to classify our stations and went with the worst answers across the board. Look at class B especially. Theres class B, but there is also class B-Battery for qrp stations. Why not just make qrp stations Class Q?? You can read about it here: www.arrl.org/field-day-rules

      Just trying to capture the whole field day experience. For me, field day is every day. Official events like this are for me, and a lot of people, about getting together with other hams. It's about the camaraderie more so than making a million contacts, although we didn't do too bad either. Plus, editing all those contacts takes forever! Hours and hours and hours. I'm going to keep doing them though, don't worry. I haven't had much time lately due to work keeping me busy, but once it settles I'll be back to it. Thanks for watching. It is good to hear you enjoy the operating videos. Those don't usually get nearly as many views as other videos like product reviews.

    Hmmm, normally enjoy your stuff and was intrigued by the 'Social Distancing Special'. Sadly very disappointed to see a total disregard for social distancing and the disrespect of everyone in your crew not wearing face masks. Hardly surprising the national COVID-19 has soared during the past few days. If this video is anything to go by, was caused by Field Day.

    • @hamradiotube
      @hamradiotube  4 года назад +1

      Hey man, that sucks you feel that way. Masks aren't required outside in MI, and we were for the vast majority of the time, at least 30 feet apart at our own stations, other than filming this video. I'd be curious your findings on Field Day being the cause of any spike in Covid-19. I'm sure the 4 of us being there mostly alone has ultimately been the cause of the end of the world as we know it. I really do appreciate you watching though, your views do not go in vain. 73
