I originally had to call a repairman when it happened the first time and he told me what part to order but I wish I would have watched your video first and fix the problem myself without spending money on the replacement, thank you and I will save the video for next time
Wish I would have found this earlier today, I had watched it at least six months ago but I forgot about those pesky little four tabs. I too my old one out today and got a new filter in and locked, I just used a screw driver to push down on teeth to lock in, it worked but had I seen your video again, I would have remembered to get the tabs locked in place. Great video
Thank you for watching in your comments that is a bit of a challenge when those little tabs don’t lock in so that’s why I put a little bit of silicone on them waited them for them to dry and then put the whole unit back together. Thanks for watching please share.
Really glad I was able to help. I had a continuous problem with mine until I got frustrated and took it all apart and found the problem. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Thanks, best video for actually doing this. I found that I was able to get the new filter to click in place by removing the cowling and holding the base steady with one hand on the back side, and then pushing in the filter with the other hand.
thank you so much for your comments and watching the video. Glad that we could help. I had a real challenge with mine until I really got upset so I took it apart completely and same problem. Those little tabs that were off the backside so that the filter wouldn’t bite into the teeth that hold it in place again thank you so much for watching. Please share the video.
Same thing happened today.Filter would not click . I was gonna buy a new part tomorrow . Watched your video took it a part same problem .Snapped back installed and it worked. Thanks

Hey! After watching several videos of people showing how to remove and install the filters for refrigerators with this model of filter, and even some people who had an issue with either stuck filters or filters that would not lock into place, yours is the first one to show anything about the problem with the clips on the back. A couple videos showed entirely replacing the piece that had the clips, springs and all in it, with a brand new part, but nobody even mentioned this being a possible cause. They stated it was likely due to the springs being worn out. My mother-in-law just replaced her filter in a Frigidaire that uses this model last night, and then texted me that it keeps leaking when you use the water dispenser or when the ice maker calls for water for the tray. She also said she installed and removed the old filter several times before installing the new one to make sure she knew how to do it, so I am thinking she used too much force repeatedly, and she may have popped those little clips loose. Now her new filter will not come out to see why it's leaking! Heading over there tomorrow afternoon to see if I can solve her issue. I will let you know if these clips were the problem keeping her from removing the filter. THANKS!
Thank you for watching and your comments would love to know what the outcome is so please keep me posted here and please share this video with other friends and family that might have the similar fridge mine has been working great now for ever since I put in a little bit of silicone on the back of those clips my filter is going in and out when I’m ready to change it once again thanks for watching please keep us posted
@@ACanadianRVereh Ended up being the removable plastic part on the filter that locks into the housing mechanism had slid to the side about a quarter of an inch. That had it stuck in the mechanism. Yeah, it was a challenge for me also to find any information on RUclips at that time. Glad you got it all fixed save you a few dollars. Thanks for watching and your comments.
You’re welcome. I’m glad I could help. I had a real challenge with mine too until I got that fixed properly with a bit of silicone on those little tabs. Thanks for watching please share.
Great video! I had the same thing. I ordered that part before I saw the video and had the same problem. Followed your steps and fixed the issue. Only thing I did was remove that top shelf to give me a little more room. Thanks again 👍🏽
Yeah I was quite disappointed when I couldn’t get my filter to sit properly and I thought maybe it was the filter maybe it was this that finally when I pulled it apart and had a close look at it a little clips just came out so I better silicone and has been working great since then thanks for watching thank you for your comments please share
So obviously Frigidaire isn't going to fix the problem on that replacement part because they actually get money when you order the part because it breaks or comes apart
Yes I think you’re correct sometimes when you force the filter off it probably pops out the tabs and the new filter doesn’t seal completely. Thank you for watching and your comment
Yep drove me crazy when I couldn’t figure it out until I pulled it apart and looked at it. Glad I could help. Thank you for commenting and watching the video.
Yes I hear you. It was quite frustrating when I was trying to put the filter in it and it wouldn’t see it so I got so frustrated that I thought I would look on RUclips but I couldn’t find any real good videos explaining why the filter wouldn’t stay in there, so I took it apart and found the issue with the little clips on the back with a better silicone and fixes it perfectly. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Good video, I am having the same issue, I was going to buy a a new part for the filter housing but it seems easy enough to get to, maybe I wll try to see if I can fix that first. Thanks for the video.
I think it was a production issue with that model of fridge in that year but yeah I don’t think you need new parts. I was quite frustrated when I did this video too, but by putting a little bit of silicone on those little tabs, it was fine. I’m still using it today and the filter is going out perfectly so good luck. Thanks for watching. Thanks for your comments and please share.
Such a good feeling when you can find the problem I had the issue to it drove me crazy until I took it all apart and found those little clips just wouldn’t stay connected with a bit of silicone. I fix that problem. Thanks for watching and your comments.
No once you remove the filter, there is a tiny shut off valve that’s in the connection that should stop the water flow but for safety I’d recommend if you could turn the water off. It’s a little better less pressure on the gasket fittings. Thanks for watching in your comments.
And my unit I noticed they were to Springs, but mine didn’t pop out because I was able to remove the complete assembly and then put some caulking in the back to allow the little for clips to stay connected to the frame I don’t know if you can buy the springs or even make some that will fit and make that connection work for you thanks for your comments. Thanks for watching.
Hey, thanks but may i ask you a question? Recently, i noticed an accumulation of water in the bottom of the fridge. I found the culprit was the filter base. Every time the water dispenser was activated, water ran out of the back of the base. I have replaced the base and have the same problem. Any thought on why it would leak water there?
Yes it might be coming from the ice machine I had that issue on an other fridge I had not the one in the video I know it’s had to find but there not much else that can leak water. Did you check a the connections on the line Let me know how you make out.
It depends what you’re doing you might if it’s in a home you might turn off the main valve if it’s in an RV if you usually look underneath the fridge or under the back panel in the RV bin, you will sometimes see a water valve there or just turn off the main system or on detach from the tap. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Thank you for watching and glad we could help. I know it gets frustrating sometimes when I search RUclips to find out how to fix it and I didn’t find anything. It’s a simple as what I did again, thanks for watching and please share.
I just ran into this problem the first filter I changed on my 9mos. old refrigerator. I ordered two and the second one worked. I was about to blame the filters but I am sure it has something to do with the meshing of the two interlocking parts, one on the filter and one on the refrigerator.
I would probably think you’re correct because once I fix mine, I didn’t get any water dripping or anything at all. It’s just probably the seals in that little plastic adapter that are probably not connecting properly but as long as your filter seats properly then it’s probably the washers on the filter or what you can try is to make sure that they’re on correctly maybe with a little bit of soap on them just to make sure they slide in all the way and then don’t forget to run the water until it clears completely if there’s any soap in the system, hope this helps. Thanks for your comments.
I have also found this to be a problem every single time I've had to change my water filter. Last time I bought the part the base/ water filter part number 242009602. I did fix the old part by putting the Springs back in. So today again I had to change that part and this time I'm working on the one that we took out and putting some crazy glue on The Notches in the back because as you said this seems to be the problem it pops out of place when changing the water filter, which is defective on Frigidaire part. So I will see next time when I have to change my water filter if it happens again because I didn't get a chance to put Krazy Glue On The Notches when I fixed it this time I didn't think about it till I had it all back together
Thank you for watching and your comments. Yeah I really had a challenge with my fridge many times until I got so frustrated that I pulled it apart and did the mod now I did another video on my channel which was about a year later showing how I replace the filter and it came out and seated properly by putting some silicone into the little tab so that they couldn’t come back out so so far so good for me. I’m looking forward to changing my next filter and I should do a video on that just to keep everybody posted once again thanks for watching. Thank you for commenting. Give me an update the next time you change.
@ACanadianRVereh yes please do because I'm not looking forward to replacing my next water filter because I didn't get a chance to do that before I put it all back together
Anyone know if you have to shut the water off too the unit before you remove those pipes? is it a live feed or does the water just come out when you activate it from the door?
It’s best to turn the water off I did just for safety, but you are correct. The water will not flow until you activate it from the front door. There is a valve or a solenoid in the back part of the fridge that triggers the water to come through the inlet pipe, but just turn it off anyway just to make sure
I have done other videos on just changing the filter but when you insert the filter or even better when you remove the old one and try to seat a new one, it will not seat properly because the little tabs that hold the back part into the main frame will pop out and this is a method that I posted here to show you how to fix that. We’ve had a lot of hits on this video and a lot of compliments on it. It’s exactly how to fix the problem Not showing you how to change or replace the filter
I can only guess what happened that’s exactly what happened to me when I pushed in to remove my old filter. That’s when the tabs came out of the housing therefore, putting in the new one it wouldn’t seat because there was no pressure on the tabs on the backing plate to hold the new filter in place, so I bet you that if you were to take it apart and you will see those little tabs that are supposed to hold it into Place probably popped out. That’s why the new filter will not seat exactly what happened to me and that’s why I did this video being so frustrated why my new filters wouldn’t go in from that per point on I’ve had no problem whatsoever but you see in my video I did put silicone to hold those little nibs into their housing part. Hope this helps give it a try. Please let me know what you find. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Yes, it was quite frustrating when I couldn’t get my filter to sit properly trying different filters, clones and original manufacture nothing would work until I figured out the problem of those for a little clips. Thanks for watching on your comment.
I had this problem. Once I finally was able to get the filter to lock in, I don't get any water coming out. I can hear the solenoid going, but nothing is coming out. Then when I try to remove the filter again, a big release of air comes out and some water drips out of the filter. I'm at such a loss...
Ok let me recap when you had your old filter in there. You had a good flow of water, other than what your old filter was restricting the flow, correct. When I change mine, the first time it took a while for me to purge all the air out of the lines because I turned off the water underneath my coach. Try this put everything back and insert the new filter, then take a big pot or plastic bowl inserted under the lever and just wait. Wait for at least a minute and see if there’s any water that starts coming out it could take a bit of time to purge the air out of the filter Again, comment and let me know if this helped or it worked any better
@@ACanadianRVereh No such luck, I waited for about 4 minutes and nothing is coming out. I guess my next attempt will be to try and unthaw the water line. Thanks for trying to help!
@@BigDawgMDawg were you in freezing temperatures at all? The waterline is quite exposed on your RV then that could be the problem. On mine it’s in the middle of the RV in one of the bays where I have my valve that I turn off when I winterize my fridge a few years back I have a video on that too. Just check out our channel. You’ll see it there Post and let me know when you find the problem very interested to know
Yeah, it’s quite frustrating when the thing doesn’t work can you keep buying filters and trying different things and you get frustrated but I hope I was able to help and at least find the problem with this design. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Wow, I’m sorry to hear that that you purchased a new base and a filter The only thing I can think of is even the new one the little tabs must’ve popped out is there any chance that that might’ve happened because in my video you notice I put a bit of silicone on the little nibs so that they won’t pop back out now I’m just gonna be posting another video showing that after eight months I did a filter change and everything was perfect. Again, I would just check to make sure that the housing of the new one is all in place but other than that there’s not much to know it because as long as you have a good filter and a good receiver, it should just click in. Keep me posted.
@@ACanadianRVereh This is a real bummer. The new filter base behaves like the old one. Sometimes I get a click that won't stick and other times no click at all when I push the filter in. I even tried with another new filter and same thing. The housing of both new and old bases are intact. I tried moving the teeth a little up and down on the filter. Nothing works.
@@qbtc have you checked the housing to make sure it is all back on properly if it’s off a little if the screws are not 100% into the frame of the fridge you might have a little bit of the filter not going in straight because the filter is pretty long I feel for you brother I know it’s very frustrating when it doesn’t work 100%
@@ACanadianRVereh I bought an official filter replacement off Amazon and it fits perfectly. Apparently, the ones I got off eBay are knockoffs and I had no idea there was such a thing for these.
@@qbtc yeah I get it I think most of the time if you have an original it seems to fit a little better even on the O-rings that are on the tips of it. I’ve tried both they both work before I did my mod on my clips inside the unit, but I would still go with the ones off Amazon. Thanks for commenting and watching.
I had to take the whole assy out every 6 months. It was very awkward to work in tight space. Stupid design to allowed clips to move on every install. I would fix it to lock, then it won't come out again on next install. Stupid plastics. Why couldn't they make the slot tighter so it won't move up and down? Other brands used the same stupid design.
Yes, I hear you. It is a dumb design but what I did in my video, hoping that it would be a little better as I put in some clear silicone and let it dry before I put it back now to this day I’ve not had a problem with it again, but I am very cautious of when I remove the filter and insert the new filter with the least amount of pressure so it it would keep the back part from popping out of its support clips but I really think the silicone really helped a lot by not allowing those little fingers to expand and pop off the back. Thank you for your comments and watching please share.

Wait for at least a minute and see if there’s any water that starts coming out it could take a bit of time to purge the air out of the filter
Again, comment and let me know if this helped or it worked any better
@@ACanadianRVereh No such luck, I waited for about 4 minutes and nothing is coming out. I guess my next attempt will be to try and unthaw the water line. Thanks for trying to help!
@@BigDawgMDawg were you in freezing temperatures at all?
The waterline is quite exposed on your RV then that could be the problem.
On mine it’s in the middle of the RV in one of the bays where I have my valve that I turn off when I winterize my fridge a few years back I have a video on that too. Just check out our channel. You’ll see it there
Post and let me know when you find the problem very interested to know
Thanks. Will try this.
It was my problem all fixed now and see my fallow up video on my first time filter replacement
Thank you for watching and for your comment
@@ACanadianRVereh It worked! Thanks!
@@MonarchGuy974 Great news so glad please share thank you
Good job
Yeah, it’s quite frustrating when the thing doesn’t work can you keep buying filters and trying different things and you get frustrated but I hope I was able to help and at least find the problem with this design. Thanks for watching and your comments.
I even bought a brand new filter base and the filter still won't click in. What am I missing?
Wow, I’m sorry to hear that that you purchased a new base and a filter
The only thing I can think of is even the new one the little tabs must’ve popped out is there any chance that that might’ve happened because in my video you notice I put a bit of silicone on the little nibs so that they won’t pop back out now I’m just gonna be posting another video showing that after eight months I did a filter change and everything was perfect.
@@qbtc have you checked the housing to make sure it is all back on properly if it’s off a little if the screws are not 100% into the frame of the fridge you might have a little bit of the filter not going in straight because the filter is pretty long
I feel for you brother I know it’s very frustrating when it doesn’t work 100%
@@ACanadianRVereh I bought an official filter replacement off Amazon and it fits perfectly.
This is annoying. Since im not getting water i might as well try this. Pray for me.
This could be the issue. If the filter is not sealed it won’t pass water
Let me know how it works out for you
I had to take the whole assy out every 6 months.
