We've watched and re-watched the Seinfeld series aprox once every one or two years. It is like coming home 🏡 ❤
Its a shame that nobody asked him about how he has used Transcendental Meditation for many years to remain a very grounded person.
I was born in 1949 and my high school boyfriend has a 1957 Hard Top Convertible Ford. The trunk would pop up ( backwards) and the hard top would glide down into the trunk. It was Turquoise and white. Back then I had no idea how cool that really was.
Originally, I didn't really like the series final of Seinfeld, but re-watched it recently, so many years later, and was laughing at most it. I think bringing in so many different characters from over the nine seasons was one of the best ideas they could have come up with.
Agreed. Essentially there was little story arcs, so nothing to really tie up loose ends and finalize. I liked it.
I liked it for the simple fact that most hated it, which is what made it 'art' more than commerce. 'Friends' was them handing out exactly what they knew the audience wanted, Seinfeld was Larry David knowing how to end it-regardless of the audience.
I didn't find it very funny at all, but at the end a lot of the shows were hit or miss I found. Its VERY rare in Hollywood that an actual artistic decision will override commercial ones, and that certainly was a case, at least as far as you can find sitcoms 'artistic'. Its more of a 'craft' but that was at least an artistic decision. They COULD have had Jerry marry Elaine, Kramer win the lottery, George, well, i don't know, the toilet thing working out I guess.
I still don’t care for the finale, and I think it’s because they go to jail.
I get the whole silliness of the Good Samaritan law, and the brining back all those characters, but to me it fell flat them going to jail. I think it was too serious for a sitcom like Seinfeld, and even with the added prison standup, it just fell flat. I think like they got probation or something, and then they are at coffee shop and then Jerry’s apartment and talking about how everyone hates them now or how George can’t get a job, or Jerry doing well because he uses the whole thing in his stand up now “this edgy comedy stuff is really working George”!
And it just ends with some kind of silliness. The jail thing just didn’t cut it for me.
I loved the last show except when they went to the jail cell. My nephew thought at the time they should have all gotten up and said I got to go home and walk out of the jail.
Jerry is a god. His dissection OF comedy and joke writing in interviews (as good in other interviews) is razor sharp. Who else can sit and casually explain the actual craft of his art? That's why he's able to be so casual in interviews - it's all moments.
Just like fighting to get Seinfeld on tv, after global fame and two decades later, he still fought for CCGC to be an actual series, with people doubting him. If you truly believe in something, don't be discouraged, and maybe it'll just be the best thing ever. God I hate doubters.

+Aozotra back in the day when he was just another comedian he did have to struggle with the seinfeld show but now after all these years and all the success he had it's a totally different scenario. I can't imagine any other random guy (even if he is a comedian) trying this and receiving such a good response. taking the shot yea, that's the first step bu that doesn't mean anybody can do it. get any other guy and have him be just like jerry, have the same punch lines, behave the same with his guests on the show etc and let's see if that works out the same way cuz i bet it won't

Thats the part he doesn't get. He thinks its the content people watch for, its just the idea of the show and the fact even with the internet most stuff out there is utter crap. He's famous enough now that likely him driving and talking back to the radio is likely more entertaining than the edited version.
"The Zen philosopher Basho once wrote: A flute with no holes......... is not a flute. And a donut with no hole.......... is a Danish. He was a funny guy." That bit when Jerry was talking about donut holes reminded me of that line from Chevy Chase in Caddyshack.

Nobody reading this has to believe me but just after the mention of George Carlin (and what sort of car would you pick for him) the very first thought was VW bug and then in my mind it switched gears (no pun intended) to a VW bus! THAT ended up being my guess. ... Then about a minute later ... So cool!!
Greatest comedian ever! And CICGC is his best work to date. Lightening does strike twice...at least for Jerry.

The character Jerry in the TV show Seinfeld never cared about anyone but himself.
This was a good demonstration of that attitude.

Repeat the question into the mic, or add subtitles. Is that so hard! (using a Kramer scream).
In response to like half of the comments: Jerry knows exactly what he's doing. He is aware that we probably can't hear the question. I think it may have something to do with the fact that he's a stand up.

That was such a great and unforgettable opening for a great comedy show. Totally LD material. Makes you think ''oh boy this gonna be awesome.'' We are lucky that there is a huge possibility for nineth season.

J Co Seinfeld said he was so used to this kind of Q&A's, so it was strange that he didnt know he has to implement the questions in his answers.
This is not for him to pay attention to. The host should have echoed the questions. But then, he's not a very good host altogether.
The publisher could have lifted the Q in post production, too
I grew up with Tom and Jerry and while they're still funny, the Roadrunner cartoons beat them all to hell for sheer ridiculous nonsense, chiefly because of the inspired presence of Wile E. Coyote, the most sublime cartoon character of all time. Hilarious. The good news is, you can see them all on RUclips! Yay!!
Jerry is my favorite comedian I think. I wanted to do stand up myself but I hate practicing on the mirror. When I was twelve it was different.

yeah, for a guy who says that internet is its own network, and the story about the guy in the truck who wasn´t mic´d - he shoulve thought of that. Or the interviewer shouldve pointed out, hey were taping this! but he seemed a bit to timid to me. tHEY always get these akward interviewers on these things....

It was a way to work the room, btw. No stand-up wants to see anyone else standing at a mic stand opposite himself.

I never much paid attention to the Seinfeld show but he is a really funny guy.
His interviews are much funnier than his act or show I find. Which ironically likely means a show LITERALLY following him around would likely have been funnier.

Please don't get me wrong for this but, the interviewer is a beginner who does not know what to ask or how to continue the conversation. The interview is not well structured and, while Jerry responds, he seems to be distracted thinking about how to get out of the way. The questionnaire he prepared before the event seems to have been written by a teenager for the school newspaper. However, Jerry put all his effort to save the interview, taking the right direction to achieve entertaining content. Please take it as a constructive criticism. The interviewer should prepare better for future interviews. This video can also serve as an example for journalism students.

I thought jerry got so rich that he began to lose his personality after Seinfeld, but in this interview I see the old Jerry - maybe not as funny as in the TV show but every bit as 'real' as he was before his great success.

I love CICGC but he didn't invent this, Robert Llewellen had a youtube show where he'd drive comedians to places and the show was the conversation, before this.

He must be the easiest interview there is . i've watched many of his interviews and the interviewers doesn't even have to fish the question and Jerry launches into a detailed and super entertaining story .

That's really an insult. The Beatles were a grossly overrated pathetic imitation of American rock and roll, like all European pop music. Maybe the Picasso of standup. Or the Tchaikovsky.

A question I would have asked him is if he watches Top Gear UK. His two passions are cars and comedy. Top Gear combines both, and in the years 2010s, it's the show that has made me laugh the most.

+Jim Harvey If I understood Jerry correctly, I think she (Jessica, his wife) was on the phone. But just not for the part when Jerry tells JLD to pretend like she's talking to his wife and has Julia "say to Jessica" that funny bit that Jerry thought up. Jerry realized the phone call bit wasn't funny after it had ended already and so that's why he thought of that bit and had JLD just pretend to still be on the phone with his wife.
Good questions, nice structure and pace of conversation. The only thing that was distracting: the host's poor articulation, excessive gesticulation and unstructured speech. Which is acceptable in a private conversation, but not on the stage. But, definitely a smart, deep young man. J. Seinfeld is always interesting and masterful
Yes, I'm sure the host is a nice guy in general, but his laugh and demeanor is distracting.
One who has lived in a generation of watching Seinfeld . Then watching him sitting , with amazing cars and having conversations over coffee.. Love it!

I like that the second time he delivered the line about "if it was really a bag of donut holes, the bag would be empty." Got a bigger laugh than the first time he said it.
Seinfeld's humor is about stating the obvious which is not obvious to everyone. It is about applying an alternative perspective to the mundane and everyday occurrences of life. Like why are you using headphones. The humor about nothing is about that which is everyday life questioned from the perspective of the humorist using the tools of an anthropologist surveying a distinct culture. Insights which trigger one's discomfort about seeing oneself from the awkward perspectives we often avoid or simply have never realized about how we act or what motivates us. That's Seinfeld. But it really feels like his time is over. The reason being that his humor relies on a level of humility in which he shares these observations as if standing along side us being as bemused as we become. Instead, he is gradually exhibiting a certain superiority and arrogance as though he has figured it all out and no longer depends on others getting the joke. He "doesn't want your feedback" because he is certain of his own funniness. In "Comedian's in Cars..." he flaunts his success in the style of Jay Leno's Garage and purports that "Comedians" have some special monopoly on humor! Most of those shows are just obnoxious and rely on star power and materialism, not humor.

Jerry, don't you think smaller cars are funnier than a larger car. What I mean, is that there is just something funnier about anything said when you are crowded inside a tight space. It provides the tension needed to give people the sense of comic relief.
Now thats producer level thinking. If its a BIG car then it has to be old, like Kramers Impala. Comedy is about extremes, so it has to be REAL small, or REAL big.

I would love to see Jerry and Larry do a Seinfeld movie. Something like this: They are all married, and they haven't seen each other for years, and they decide to "get together" and their families hate each other. You could make the movie about the people who are in their livesnow( wives, kids,etc) nd show them being absolutely miserable . I think that would be a great idea for a movie because the whole premise of the show was that they were all single and trying to meet people no failing miserably----- well----- maybe they all finally got married, and now we get to see who they chose, their kids etc. I think that would be a great movie.

Thing is anything is a good idea for a movie.....if its funny for ninety minutes. Being miserable isn't that funny or more people would hang around the homeless part of town laughing more.
