Two Kings. One stage. Perfection. The amount of laughs and joy that these two have given the world over the years will never be forgotten.
Eric, that was the most astute thing I have seen in print in months. Exactly.
I love how disagreeable they are towards each other yet still so amicable, it’s a great example of how to have an honest discussion in a light hearted way
That's NYC, baby!
Typical rhythm and tone of conversation...one of the best things about the city.
Come on, they're comedians. What else would you expect. Dave is always self-deprecating and Jerry pushes the other direction which makes it work.
It’s also very Jewish
Of course, I know that Jerry is Jewish, but is Letterman?
Still, I love Jerry's honesty - he teaches me how to get out of awkward spots and still be true.
@@jjroseknows777Dave is NOT Jewish.
I’m am so forever thankful that I got to be here on earth when Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman where here as well.
These guys see the world from a different perspective. Great sense of humor.
The funny thing is that I´m surprised to see how good an interviewer Dave really is when he´s got time to just talk and think and ask the questions without having to break for a commercial or go for a punchline. Great interview.
@@EscapementWatch
I completely agree. I Have always loved Letterman
@@EscapementWatch ollllp
God bless these guys, and guys in show business like them. I could listen to them kibbitz like this all day long.
Just had the deepest sleep I’ve had in years to the sound of these two talking. Jerry’s voice is so soothing with a lullaby like cadence. Thanks fellas.
Trying to sleep right now and stumbled here. Small world
that is a so peculiar observation, i'm sure jerry would love to make fun about that
Jerry spends a lot of time working on the cadence, and rhythm of his speech and jokes.. Plus he has almost Radio Announcer inflections, imho. I'm sure he would not be shocked to hear that.
Imagine Seinfeld hanging out with Hitchens. They may have actually not worked. Which would have been hilarious. Hitchens, who was funny, working with Jerry constantly saying ".....nah, that's not interesting. Do you like cars?" And Christopher endlessly fascinated that Jerry truly has no interest in anything, with his brilliant mind, of substance.
Happened to me last night!
I always thought Jerry was super corny and just avoided his stand-up and shows. I’m an Always Sunny in Philly fan, decided to try Seinfeld again on a whim and quickly realized THAT was the genesis (or one of them at least) of that style of show. It blew my mind how clever and well-written the characters were. That made me pay more attention to Jerry and now I’m of the opinion the dude is a rare comedic genius. I don’t use that word lightly either…his observations on human behavior are fascinating and you can tell the dude studies people and how they act. His Comedians in Cars show is really no different, he just knows how to appeal to certain type of people and their humor
Definitely watch Curb. Love that show too
You were right the first time, Seinfeld is a shallow superficial unfunny douchebag and David Letterman is just as shallow and phony as Seinfeld. Two of the biggest a-holes in all of teevee history. Srsly Dave is a dickhead who cheated on his wife and has a fake relationship with his own son, what's a waste of money and resources on two uber douchebags
He would be in my top ten stand up comedians.
I miss Seinfeld
Seinfeld was definitely a huge influence on always sunny, they just turned it up to 11. There’s a lot of Seinfeld nods or references, sunny even tried to end the series like Seinfeld did.
Dave is at his best when it's a conversation, not just an interview. Jerry brings it out of him.
Isn't that true generally, overall?
@@katc5051 So many guests are about pushing their book, movie, etc. (yawn) and the producers' pre-interview get questions which will have canned, stale answers. But when they go off script, that's when Dave's wit is at its best and he engages, rather than just catatonically pitching softballs. And when he's happy, the show percolates.
I'm supposed to be working right now, and I cannot stop watching this. Every moment is genuinely funny, warm, and touching. Amazing stuff.
A shame this only lasted an hour, I could have gone on watching them talk forever. Just two eloquent and hilarious guys with great chemistry making terrific conversation.
If you haven't, you should watch Dave's interview of Jerry Seinfeld on "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" titled "You're David Letterman, You Idiot". It has the same vibe, even better in my opinion.

It's better than sex to you isn't it?
They’d need some more water to drink.
Videos like these are why I love RUclips so much.
YES!
I love how real the coffee and cars show is and I love how you are immersed in their conversation.
Wow, Letterman is such a great interviewer... Relaxed, quick, profound, and witty...
+Halil Mutlu wow?
+Halil Mutlu There is nothing better than a Letterman interview with someone he respects.. Except maybe for his interviews with someone he doesn't respect at all ;)
It's almost like he's had some practice.
It's almost as if he was interviewing all his life huh?
Yeah that's why he did it for 30+ years...
I must have been in a hole for the last 7 yrs. This show is incredible. Love consuming them and this interview. Thank you, Jerry (and Dave)
I love Seinfelds honesty.
How great is the Porsche 911? It's called the "Nine-Eleven" and people STILL love it.
thescowlingschnauzer Good at least they're not over sensitive people.
The car has killed too many celebrities, deathtrap.
It was called that way before the tragedy in 2001
A joke for americans I presume.
manan dedhia you got it too.
I love the show. I’ve so appreciated being included in moments when a guest opens up, and even become vulnerable at times.
This was a great conversation
Saw Seinfeld a couple years ago. He had the energy of a guy in his 20s or 30s! Hard worker. Laughed the whole hour 20 minutes. Great comedian. It's clear to see how he got to where he has gotten!
Jerry is just plain awesome. A true professional.
@@LukeMcGuireoides definitely Luke! Makes sense that he does Transcendental Meditation. I think that's pretty cool.
I could watch lots of shows like this format. Love the one-to-one interviews with comics/actors/celebrities.
same!
you know of the Kevin Pollack Chat Show? If not I just changed your life. Don't think he's ever gotten Dave or Jerry but many many interesting people, Kevin is a good interviewer most of the time and i'm a sucker for shtick
It's not just the interview part, it's the intelligence of it. I love hearing the discussions of the business aspect. And Jerry answered every question fully and thoughtfully. No "I don't know how much it costs" crap.
Holy crap every time Jerry says "I don't care" I crack up. What a great interview/discussion! Thanks for this.
Seinfeld is a real hero of mine. Worked hard, got lucky, shared his success and never quit pushing the envelope.
@Roger Edgerton It's easy to get a cheap crude laugh.
Roger Edgerton An entire episode about masterbation wasn’t pushing the envelope? What? Maybe you weren’t alive back then, but many Seinfeld stories were very risqué at the time they aired. Seinfeld may have chosen not to work blue on his sitcom but his character was definitely obsessed with sex, he even mentions on an episode how he’s gotten women pregnant, yet he has no kids (I’m sorry, those records are permanently sealed), implying abortion. If you look at what was acceptable to say on network tv in the ‘90’s, Seinfeld constantly pushed the envelope, although they did it in a subtle way to get around the censors.
Roger Edgerton anyone can throw a curse word into a bad joke and make it funny
Had no idea this even existed. Great interview. Two of the comic titans of their generation having a nice talk. Thanks for posting.
These are two truly smart, brilliant, quick, comedic minds. very few human beings ever reach this level.
only one is a rapist
@@sc666666 ?
They're not that smart Len. Success and intelligence are not synonymous.
What level have you reached?
"In the end,you couldn't get Jerry Stiller for a million" is the best part of this lol
Loved Comedians in cars getting coffee, I want part 2.
Jerry Seinfeld and Sarah Jessica parker
Jerry is a Brilliant mind. David is just a Legend. It's not a show about "Nothing", It is about Cars and Coffee.......
Jerry's so good at putting anything and everything in context.
I'm surprised that people are surprised that David is a great interviewer.
He is so witty and natural, and these two things make for a great interviewer.
“Having hosted a show of my own” - the understatement of a lifetime.
I'm watching this at work.
how much they pay you?
Lucky Luke stupid comment
WEll, you probably should be working. Or get fired
Wait folks, he must be a TV tester.
IT is tracking you.
Brilliant conversation by intellectual gentlemen. Fascinating to watch.
not really. Dave seems a little behind the times, not really getting the fact that's it's an internet show.
@livud Jr Humor is an intellectual sport.
Letterman is prolly the best among the talk show hosts lot. He doesn't overindulge his guests nor does he slight them, He maintains control of the conversation in a positive way, bringing the best out of his guests, while not depending on gimmicks and keeping the humor healthy. Unlike his contemporaries such as Leno, he's never been flamboyant or loud. He's always been crisp and witty, without an ounce of insecurity.
Can't think if any current talk show hosts can fill his shoes. He's truly one of his kind.
Easily swayed by celebrity aren't you!
Doesn't slight them? People of Seinfeld's caliber, sure. But you obviously don't know Dave.
@@n0tk0sher Even if he did slight people, which he certainly did, it was always very quick witted and comedically acerbic jabbing. Also his show was irreverent and sardonic in nature. Much more in the first two decades but it was always askew. Always trying to keep the audience on its toes. If anyone had a slightly similar show, Conan, it was mostly a carbon copy of the Letterman blueprint. Everyone else was pandering to celebrities. Like Leno and certainly the unwatchable Fallon. Carson was the standard and Letterman turned it upside down and created something unique and fresh. For my money Letterman was the best to ever do it.
Never seen somebody write "prolly". I like it 😏
"i dont want to lear" is the most honest thing he's ever said. He knows it all in his head.
It's true. It's like the show Seinfeld. No moral to any story line. The only goal is to be funny
Loved seeing Dave do the interview with Jerry. Hope Dave doesn't disappear completely after next year, like Carson did after he retired.
Danimal300zx ..Letterman is healthier with less emotional issues than Carson..Carson different style comedy all together and didn’t have social skills when camera turned off..alcohol ruined him.
He had COPD and Emphazima for a long time.
This conversation was so interesting. They're both hilarious of course, but I could listen to them chat for hours.
I loved the uncut versions. For me it worked. Definitely dont need the snappy cuts. The uncut just makes it richer.
You could watch them spontaneously interact FOREVER - well that‘s probably why they were both so incredibly successful: Because they are just extremely funny from the bottom of their hearts and VERY quick in their thinking 😂😂😂!
I love them!!! Really fun interview, and loved hearing Seinfeld describe how Comedians in Cars evolved. Thanks 😊!!!
I think that the key reason that coffee and cars works is because it is Jerry Seinfeld. Jerry is naturally funny, disarming and has an infectious laugh. And, you can tell that he likes to laugh. So he's always going to see humorous side of things. He's also good at constructing a comedic story. I think that is why he enjoys the editing process so much. He likes taking all of the raw footage and crafting the final product.
He has a real laugh and his silent fake laugh on the show though.
God I love these guys. I miss them being on television.
That's gold Jerry. Gold
Iwan Bottos you described why the show is so good. thanks.
@Iwan Bottos You do realize that you are not required to watch this or the Seinfeld show right?

Thoroughly enjoyed this. The circular logos in the background were mesmerizing.
11:59 “it’s not restrint, it’s restaurant !” Lol! Made me crack up for minutes!
- it's great to see dave back working again, and to see he still has that thing we all like to have when we watch him :)
Yea... I need to finish watching this at another time. I should be sleeping. I have to wake up at 5 for work. It is now 2:15. Damn you Jerry and Dave. 😁

A Thoroughly enjoyable Sit Down With Two Comedic Legends!! Cheers Everyone
Jerry Seinfeld talks in the same way to everyone who interviews him and seems to say exactly what is on his mind.
OG
Jerry Seinfeld always seems to have two arms no matter who interviews him.
coffeemachtspass wow that’s weird
I watched a bunch of interviews w him lately and I think you hit the nail on the head.
Brainbuster 😆😆😆👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent work Dave. I hope that after you're done at Late Night you'll give us the gift of broadcasting something like this a few times a year. I can't even consider media without you.
Absolutely and utterly enjoyed this interview. A bit long, but couldnt stop watching till the end. I always thought Jerry was a brilliant man and this has reinforced my thinking. Very comprehensive and well communicated.
I also enjoyed the respectful interaction between the two men.
Jerry is a refreshingly confident man without taking himself too seriously.
I have always loved that he can laugh so openly and freely.
This is amazing. I’ve listened to it multiple times already.
I have thoroughly enjoyed these conversations starring Jerry Seinfeld! Very refreshing!
6 years later, CIC is without a doubt Jerry’s best work to date: he might disagree (not sure at this point given its success), but it’s a marvelous show-perfectly done. I cannot get enough of it.
Oh, there’s doubt.
It's good. But it would have really killed if they were both on bikes, you know, a bicycle built for 2 comedians.
That's gold, Jerry. *GOLD* !!
Just recently started watching on Netflix
Loved this interview !!!
Thanks, Paley! Great interview!
What great fascinating people. 2 of my favorites reunited.... just wow!!!!
Loved this interview! I find Jerry extremely entertaining. I don't know why some ppl even bother watching it when they clearly aren't a fan of his, just so they can make rude comments.
"I'll do a couple more years of them..." LOL, he's still at it.
ThankU!! Really enjoyed it, as much as Comedians in Cars show!
This was a great watch ! Thank you !
Have no idea what they are talking about but it always great fun to watch the Sein and Letterman talk. Both very funny. And I like coffee.
I love Jerry and am amazed and thankful for his talent and focus. It's curious the importance he placed on making this project profitable. He's worth almost a BILLION dollars... If he spent a million for a year of shows, he wouldn't know to miss it. As he alluded to, making money on this show and format was like scaling another mountain and putting another knotch on his list of accomplishments (which are unparalleled)
This is a great show. They both were so good.
So glad to have captured Don Rickles in an episode. What they said is true about another era with him and so many other quality comedians that have since passed.
Two legends ,two great personalities, giant presences.
Dave is great with intelligent guests. You could tell he was getting tired of the ditsy actors. When he is challenged and angry he is at his best. I think that's the most common thing between Craig Ferguson and Dave....they are the only two late night people who could easily sub in and do 60 Minutes
"challenged and angry he is at his best" that would be a good test if anybody had the balls to ask him about his raping
I am not sure you understand Dave or his style. What you perceive as, "getting tired of ditzy actors" is all part of Dave's success. Dave has last say on who get's booked as a guest. There are pre-appearance meetings where both discuss the options of topics. Even the perceived irritation Teri Garr brought to the show was all staged. The goofiness of Nicole Kidman staged. The occasional outburst from an audience member, staged. It isn't like you describe. The comedic genius of Dave is built upon quirkiness and awkwardness. Dave is great with all guests otherwise he wouldn't keep inviting them back. And seriously, "challenged and angry" is simply false. It is you not getting Dave.
@@craigjgomez You really do overestimate Dave and this kind of show. Are you into conspiracy theories by any chance? Cuzz this sounds like another one.
Wow...you're so right!
@Versaith33 I agree with much of what you say. But I would suggest that you're mostly describing older NBC "LNWDL" -Dave, not CBS "TLS" -Dave, and what he's doing now on Netflix recently. His chosen interviewees are mostly vapid, even more pretentious and ditsier musicians, instead of actors.
Dave's early/mid-80's NBC show became ironically better when he and Robert Morton couldn't get the A-list actors on the program, so they filled it with more lesser-known but cerebral, artsy, and historically-important in their field type guests; which is what made the show so refreshing, underground and worth staying up for. Not unlike what some of the better and ballsier YT'ers are doing now, nearly 40 years later.
Personally I think once DL got hooked up with CBS/Viacom/MTV, and had access to all of the people from the music world he grew up admiring from the 60's/cheaper pop-culture until today, sort of warped his brain and taste in what made a really good late night show, abandoning some of the edgier/Dada anti-comedy and engaging guests, for the safety of being a modern day Ed Sullivan/part-time comedian/veteran "broadcaster".
Fans of his NBC show, only knew the "comedian" Dave and a great interviewer when "serious". The Ed Sullivan/"broadcaster" part, wasn't really needed. That change in Dave, happened after he went to CBS.
For most Letterman hardcore fan archivists, the night he had The Foo Fighters on in the mid-90's on CBS and acted as if they were the second coming of the Beatles, it was pretty easy to see that just 10+ years since his first show on NBC in '82, Dave had begun to run out of inspiration, was far too enamored/eased-off with mediocre but "cooler" talent, and his new show had officially reached the point of "jumping the shark".
This is so great. I've watched it 3 times now. I will probably watch it again.
Wow! Go for the record, man!
I watch it at work also..HAHAHA! Love the show Jerry!!!
33:10 Dave’s buddies defeating the cake bit is honestly even funnier to me than the cake bit
What’s amazing to me is that Jerry saw it coming a mile away. He knew they wouldn’t get it because it’s a joke only comedians would get. That was impressive.
Bill Murray & Jerry would be amazing, he is one of the best of all time. Some other guests have nothing on him, hopefully he will be featured soon...
What kind of car though?
@@samanthab1923 The Ecto 1 of course!

Hey, Jerry. I know there are seasons and I watch every new episode on Thursday and when the season is over, I wait impatiently for the next season to start!
@Justin Case If you have to comment on my post, you must need a life too! Anyway, he "jumped the shark" when he went to Netflix. The Crackle seasons were much better.
25:19 I LOVE this exchange when Dave asks Jerry: Are you a true pioneer?
Letterman is the only guy with an ego big enough to interview Jerry and challenge him....not to shabby.
Seinfeld actually defers to Letterman because he respects Letterman as a comic but be also went to Letterman for advice before his Seinfeld show. Letterman said don't cave in... They want you... Do your show the way you want it. Seinfeld credits letterman for taking that advice for his show.
