The funny thing is that I´m surprised to see how good an interviewer Dave really is when he´s got time to just talk and think and ask the questions without having to break for a commercial or go for a punchline. Great interview.
Two of the greats. Two intelligent, articulate entertainers. Instead of two people debating, complaining, and tearing others down. This is entertaining and insightful ❤
@@katc5051 So many guests are about pushing their book, movie, etc. (yawn) and the producers' pre-interview get questions which will have canned, stale answers. But when they go off script, that's when Dave's wit is at its best and he engages, rather than just catatonically pitching softballs. And when he's happy, the show percolates.
Absolutely and utterly enjoyed this interview. A bit long, but couldnt stop watching till the end. I always thought Jerry was a brilliant man and this has reinforced my thinking. Very comprehensive and well communicated. I also enjoyed the respectful interaction between the two men. Jerry is a refreshingly confident man without taking himself too seriously. If you haven't, you should watch Dave's interview of Jerry Seinfeld on "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" titled "You're David Letterman, You Idiot". It has the same vibe, even better in my opinion.
I always thought Jerry was super corny and just avoided his stand-up and shows. I’m an Always Sunny in Philly fan, decided to try Seinfeld again on a whim and quickly realized THAT was the genesis (or one of them at least) of that style of show. It blew my mind how clever and well-written the characters were. That made me pay more attention to Jerry and now I’m of the opinion the dude is a rare comedic genius. I don’t use that word lightly either…his observations on human behavior are fascinating and you can tell the dude studies people and how they act. His Comedians in Cars show is really no different, he just knows how to appeal to certain type of people and their humor
You were right the first time, Seinfeld is a shallow superficial unfunny douchebag and David Letterman is just as shallow and phony as Seinfeld. Two of the biggest a-holes in all of teevee history. Srsly Dave is a dickhead who cheated on his wife and has a fake relationship with his own son, what's a waste of money and resources on two uber douchebags
Seinfeld was definitely a huge influence on always sunny, they just turned it up to 11. There’s a lot of Seinfeld nods or references, sunny even tried to end the series like Seinfeld did.
Loved this interview! I find Jerry extremely entertaining. I don't know why some ppl even bother watching it when they clearly aren't a fan of his, just so they can make rude comments.
Saw Seinfeld a couple years ago. He had the energy of a guy in his 20s or 30s! Hard worker. Laughed the whole hour 20 minutes. Great comedian. It's clear to see how he got to where he has gotten!
+Halil Mutlu There is nothing better than a Letterman interview with someone he respects.. Except maybe for his interviews with someone he doesn't respect at all ;)
So glad to have captured Don Rickles in an episode. What they said is true about another era with him and so many other quality comedians that have since passed.
Wonderful interview. I loved that Jerry chose to come onstage with Dave, instead of waiting for his own obligatory introduction. That woman was crestfallen. Heaven knows how long she spent writing and rehearsing his intro. Jerry seemed to say, "Yeah, thanks but no thanks." Not about you, ma'am.

It's not just the interview part, it's the intelligence of it. I love hearing the discussions of the business aspect. And Jerry answered every question fully and thoughtfully. No "I don't know how much it costs" crap.
I'm surprised that people are surprised that David is a great interviewer. He is so witty and natural, and these two things make for a great interviewer.
Roger Edgerton An entire episode about masterbation wasn’t pushing the envelope? What? Maybe you weren’t alive back then, but many Seinfeld stories were very risqué at the time they aired. Seinfeld may have chosen not to work blue on his sitcom but his character was definitely obsessed with sex, he even mentions on an episode how he’s gotten women pregnant, yet he has no kids (I’m sorry, those records are permanently sealed), implying abortion. If you look at what was acceptable to say on network tv in the ‘90’s, Seinfeld constantly pushed the envelope, although they did it in a subtle way to get around the censors.
Letterman is prolly the best among the talk show hosts lot. He doesn't overindulge his guests nor does he slight them, He maintains control of the conversation in a positive way, bringing the best out of his guests, while not depending on gimmicks and keeping the humor healthy. Unlike his contemporaries such as Leno, he's never been flamboyant or loud. He's always been crisp and witty, without an ounce of insecurity. Can't think if any current talk show hosts can fill his shoes. He's truly one of his kind.
@@n0tk0sher Even if he did slight people, which he certainly did, it was always very quick witted and comedically acerbic jabbing. Also his show was irreverent and sardonic in nature. If anyone had a slightly similar show, Conan, it was mostly a carbon copy of the Letterman blueprint. Everyone else was pandering to celebrities. Like Leno and certainly the unwatchable Fallon. I think that the key reason that coffee and cars works is because it is Jerry Seinfeld. Jerry is naturally funny, disarming and has an infectious laugh. And, you can tell that he likes to laugh. So he's always going to see humorous side of things. He's also good at constructing a comedic story. I think that is why he enjoys the editing process so much. He likes taking all of the raw footage and crafting the final product.
I love Jerry and am amazed and thankful for his talent and focus. It's curious the importance he placed on making this project profitable. He's worth almost a BILLION dollars... If he spent a million for a year of shows, he wouldn't know to miss it. As he alluded to, making money on this show and format was like scaling another mountain and putting another knotch on his list of accomplishments (which are unparalleled)

Awesome video. Letterman and Seinfeld are literally two of the funniest guys in the world - and their success shows that. Love Comedians in cars getting coffee, such a great show for comedians and their fans. I could have watch 5 hours of this.
For anyone about to make the comment "man, I really miss Letterman", he has a show on netflix. It's an interview show similar to this. He interviews huge names for around an hour. It's great. I've enjoyed episodes of it with guests I dont even like.
Excellent work Dave. I hope that after you're done at Late Night you'll give us the gift of broadcasting something like this a few times a year. I can't even consider media without you.
The thing about ``comedians in cars'' that is so great is that we're a car country, I've noticed people talk more freely in cars --- the concern about eye contact is pretty much off the table, and the other thing that Jerry said -- the moving scenery.
I found it interesting that the digital media consultants that Jerry spoke with told him that his show should not exceed in 5 minutes. It's a great thing that he ignored that and I think that long form podcasts show the 5-minute firewall to be arbitrary and somehow emergent from the minds of the technicians rather than from the creators or the viewers.
Yea... I need to finish watching this at another time. I should be sleeping. I have to wake up at 5 for work. It is now 2:15. Damn you Jerry and Dave. 😁
I wish Jerry had a talk show like David's where he interviews celebrities and just says "yeah, I don't care - we'll be right back" on every episode. That would be my favorite show.
Seinfeld actually defers to Letterman because he respects Letterman as a comic but be also went to Letterman for advice before his Seinfeld show. Letterman said don't cave in... They want you... Do your show the way you want it. Seinfeld credits letterman for taking that advice for his show.
I just found Comedians in cars getting coffee and I youtube comedians all the time and had never seen Jerry's show. Ive even youtubed Jerry's standup. I cant wait to see an episode of this new show.
13:00 Bob Einstein says the classic "we´ll do anything for a laugh", wich I think is common on great comedians, that humility. It´s not anything for a laugh, is certain things from within the comedian´s soul. A sort of catharsis of bringing out something that worries you and using it to express your humor, and building a bridge to others. It is a good healing tool for conflicted souls, of course on bearing the soul, that leaves you vulnerable. But when it works, and that bridge to the audience is solid I would imagine it to be magical.
If I ever wondered if I like Jerry Seinfeld- this answers the question. He would be a wonderful guy to have a cup of coffee with- on any day, in any weather- anywhere. He's genuinely funny, he loves the scenario, he relishes the discomfort and he really, really laughs at very funny people. I love that he laughs so hard and so sincerely so easily. He reminds me of some of my very best friends and we could be friends if circumstances allowed for it. 12 to 15 minutes, a trip, a car and an excuse to get together. Perfect.
Hey guys. That was fantastic. Both you guys. Just awesome. Dave, great thoughtful interview, Jerry, cocky, but sweet at the same time. Just great guys. 2 brilliant men

All J.Seinfield needed was Seinfield. If I were him, I'd stop right there. The show was Legendary. The show IS Legendary. He doesn't need anything. He became a Legend in one season. Nothing wrong with being the best. I really wouldn't worry. Nothing will ever top anything on NBC like Seinfield.

Jerry. Jerry… Jerry… Jerry. People love to watch people laugh. You have a lot of that. That’s why you have so. much success, on any platform.
I'm watching this at work.
how much they pay you?
Lucky Luke stupid comment
WEll, you probably should be working. Or get fired
Wait folks, he must be a TV tester.
IT is tracking you.
it is nice to hear the business side that is driven by passion of new and maverick ideas like Jerry always simply brings
"In the end,you couldn't get Jerry Stiller for a million" is the best part of this lol
The thing about ``comedians in cars'' that is so great is that we're a car country, I've noticed people talk more freely in cars --- the concern about eye contact is pretty much off the table, and the other thing that Jerry said -- the moving scenery.
Perhaps the real draw of the show is watching comedians make each other laugh.
Like this interview.
Billy's Bakery: 184 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011. You are welcome.
There's actually 3 locations.
You can just barely hear her say, oh and no introduction Jerry seinfeld.
This show needs to be in full length on RUclips. With no regional limitations. Only way to get the views you need to make any online show a success.
Then people will skip the ad and then who's going to make the show?
Bill Murray & Jerry would be amazing, he is one of the best of all time. Some other guests have nothing on him, hopefully he will be featured soon...
What kind of car though?
@@samanthab1923 The Ecto 1 of course!
Terrific. Really enjoyed that. I miss David Letterman, a master host and interviewer.
Then jump on Netflix!
@@r.p.mcmurphy6623 I miss the OLD Letterman.
Jerry Seinfeld talks in the same way to everyone who interviews him and seems to say exactly what is on his mind.
OG
Jerry Seinfeld always seems to have two arms no matter who interviews him.
coffeemachtspass wow that’s weird
I watched a bunch of interviews w him lately and I think you hit the nail on the head.
Brainbuster 😆😆😆👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Around 51:55, I love Jerry’s “It’s inevitable” response to Dave’s comment. That’s gold Jerry.
“I’m not gonna be making that call.“
How have I never seen this? Big fan of both these legends.
Letterman is the only guy with an ego big enough to interview Jerry and challenge him....not to shabby.

11:59 “it’s not restrint, it’s restaurant !” Lol! Made me crack up for minutes!
"I'll do a couple more years of them..." LOL, he's still at it.
Perfect.
I miss Dave so much. This was great.
Hey guys. That was fantastic. Both you guys. Just awesome. Dave, great thoughtful interview, Jerry, cocky, but sweet at the same time. Just great guys. 2 brilliant men
Not brilliant, just.very smart comedically.
Dave should really do more hour long interviews. A far better format for him I'd say.
I know your comment is 3 years old but that's exactly what exists now. Funnily, also on Netflix.
maybe a "how to" on rape?
@@sc666666 weak.
@@sc666666 stupid response.
Ya, he should have his own show with just one guest, like Kanye or Ellen or Obama.
Super Dave . I wish I had coffee with him. RIP.
My donation is in his honor.
Comedians like Letterman and Seinfeld are great to watch together.
They are both alive.
Two legends ,two great personalities, giant presences.
ThankU!! Really enjoyed it, as much as Comedians in Cars show!
I died at the "it's not 'restrunt' it's restaurant." XD
And you're being a resta-c(word).
I could not see this thumbnail and not click on it🤷🏽♀️ I knew this would be good. I love how conversational it is
That's gold Jerry. Gold
Iwan Bottos you described why the show is so good. thanks.
@Iwan Bottos You do realize that you are not required to watch this or the Seinfeld show right?
Foodfor Thought
I love the flag in your ikon.
What is that ikon called.
@@timfronimos459 It's called the real China
@Iwan Bottos You probably think Big Bang theory is funny
Also I can’t believe they didn’t talk about the episode with Obama. That was EPIC!
David Letterman said he envied Jerry Seinfeld’s online show where he talks to whoever he wanted. 4 years later, he’s got a online show where he can talk to whoever he wants to.
I don’t think there’s a coincidence there!

it definitely goes to germany :-) great interview, two of my favorite comedians.
Two nice guys. What a great interview. Even the audience was lovely.
you are a scoop of ice cream on a nice summer day.
All J.Seinfield needed was Seinfield.
If I were him, I'd stop right there.
The show was Legendary.
The show IS Legendary.
He doesn't need anything.
He became a Legend in one season.
I'd just sit on that money and chill.
Nothing will ever top Seinfield either way.
Larry David created a monster.
If I were Jerry, I'd let that be that.
I'd be known of being.."Jerry".
Nothing wrong with being the best.
I really wouldn't worry.
Nothing will ever top anything on NBC like Seinfield.
Did NOT know there were like 4 seasons on Netfflix already...
This is so great. I've watched it 3 times now. I will probably watch it again.
Wow! Go for the record, man!
"it's international, ... I was in Puerto Rico..."🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey, Jerry. I know there are seasons and I watch every new episode on Thursday and when the season is over, I wait impatiently for the next season to start!
@Justin Case If you have to comment on my post, you must need a life too! Anyway, he "jumped the shark" when he went to Netflix. The Crackle seasons were much better.
as somebody who never really found Letterman's show funny, I am delighted to just hear him speak outside of his show. His humor is better outside of his show(I feel)
What great fascinating people. 2 of my favorites reunited.... just wow!!!!
