Much thanks for this special look at Anne's life through the animals she did/didn't love. It all makes her more of a "real" person, and shows no matter what period of time, we always have wished for a connection to animals. Even if you're Queen! My father kept peacocks as pets on our farm when I was a child. They sounded like they were wailing "help." Once a new neighbor moved in who didn't know we had peacocks yet. He called the police his first morning believing someone was being murdered down our little lane. Beautiful birds, but I have to agree with Anne that you don't get to sleep in often with them around. Thank you again, Claire. You're awesome!
Angelia Pittman, where in the series did Henry give Anne a puppy? I recall him giving Catherine Howard puppies (which she shared with Anne of Cleves) and I recall Anne giving an ambassador a hound (named Wolsey), but I have no recollection of Anne having or receiving a dog/puppy. Thank you.
@@PomegranateStaindGrn Alison weird, as I remember mention a dog named Purquoi (so named because the dog had an inquiring expression on its face). There were also peacocks when Anne was pregnant, but those were sent elsewhere so Anne could rest.
I would love to see videos on daily diets of the Tudor court (any of them) if that ever interests you. I love these videos which go into the banal details of daily life - things they wouldn’t have ever thought would be known or noted about them. This is where I feel we really get to know them. X
I love these fun interesting facts about Anne Boleyn!! Thank you for giving us insight into aspects of Anne Boleyn’s life that we are not used to hearing nor did we know!! 🥰🥰💕💕💕 I greatly look forward to your daily videos! Thank you! 🙏🏻
What a treat. The Tudor pets are gorgeous and quite content ... Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I grab a cup of coffee and settle in for our morning visit everyday
I love Tudor history, since I was 14 and saw The Six Wives of Henry the 8th. especially the way you present it. Anne Boleyn is my favorite and I learned so much from your videos 😃 but showing us your pets overwhelmed me with joy such , precious persons. Like Anne Boleyn I'm crazy about a male chihuahua named Champ . these animals really know how to love. take care
Could you do a video about Anne’s favorite foods? If there are such records. I love everything Tudor, and was ecstatic to find your channel. You are doing such a good job giving us all these tidbits, and bringing history to life. ❤️ lots of love
OMG! Your pets are so beautiful. I loved hearing about how Anne hated monkeys as well. For some reason that struck me as funny. Thank you for this great vid.
An interesting vid which just showed in my feed today. Nice to be introduced to your pets-they all look like sweeties! I particularly like the Tuxedo kitties. I have a cat who has the Tux kitty markings & four white feet, but her main color is grey rather than black. I also have a Welch Corgi who is whip smart. The Lady who gifted the animals to Anne Boleyn could have done much worse than give her an Italian Greyhound. They are of the right dimensions for a lapdog, and a quick bit of googling informed the the breed has been around over 2000 years and was very liked by ladies in the middle ages. A fine and interesting episode, thank you, Claire!
Every nite I have a piece of chocolate, nice cup of tea, and I watch your videos. Btw Anne of a thousand days is my favorite and first movie I ever saw on the subject. Been pretty stuck on it ever since.
You know that was the movie that got me stuck on Anne and Henry8 as well when I saw it as a child. Genevieve Bujold was incredible, tho it was weird that she had a French accent when she was an English queen LOL well, she did go to France for a few years after all. And then I saw the 6 wives of Henry the eighth on masterpiece theater and that really just locked it in for me. and then of course was Elizabeth R. If she was brilliant in one thing, that was in creating and marketingher “Brand”, creating a narrative of herself and overall her image. She understood she was a symbol and the people needed her to be mythical and she delivered.
🇦🇺 Lovely story about the royal pets, but especially loved meeting your 'family' of cats and dogs. They all looked as though they owned the place. What lucky pets you have. You of course now have Teasel, as well. A charming video. Thank you. 🐈🐱🐕🐶🐾 🦘 🦘 👍
Fascinating insights! I never quite thought about her pets, or if she indeed had any at all. And thank you for sharing pictures of yours, Pippa is absolutely adorable! I love your cats as well, tuxedos and black cats in general are among my favorite kinds
I love your videos, they are so interesting and educational. But I have to say, it's nice to see your furbabies straight on instead of just little glimpses here and there. Thank you for showing us those pictures. :)
It should be understood that greyhounds in Tudor times were much larger dogs than racing greyhounds today. They were probably close to 100 lbs. in weight, and were used to hunt large game, not rabbits and hares.
Thank you, Claire. The story about Anne's pets is fascinating. How animals have paid for people owning them, all kinds of disasters and sad, painful events. We are not much better today in our care and keeping of these creatures of God - so many abused and abandoned. Those of us who keep our pets close to us and give them proper care, feeding and medical care know the pain of watching those misfortunate animals who have no one.
This is easily in my top three favorite Anne Boleyn Files videos! Nothing bonds people better than talking about our pets!!! I wish I could show you my Nikola because he looks like your Bonita! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pippa!!!! She's so beautiful and her name is lovely. Is she a Flat Coated Retriever? Please give her a kiss from me and Nik!!! 😘😘😘
What a great topic! Historical people (and any person generally) somehow seem more approachable when they have beloved pets. Poor Lady L having to give up her dog! I cannot imagine ever giving my cat Frank (or his naughty little sister Dolly) to anyone for any reason; my heart would break. Also I had to laugh at Anne being unable to sleep for the peacock's call. For many years, I kept a pair of guinea fowl--they make an infinitely worse noise than peacocks ever could. After the fowl had passed on, I happened to mention to a neighbor that I would be getting another pair and she begged me never ever to keep fowl again. I had to comply with her wishes but to this day, I miss my horrible, noisy, silly, joyful fowl. They have polka-dotted feathers and Delorean-style wings--most whimsical birds.
Thank you , Claire for today’s informative video and sharing your cutie pets in the slideshow. LOVED IT!!. Your kitty Majesty looks so much like my little guy that I was so lucky to have for over 19 years.
Claire, I have been following your website/blog for years. I have read some of your books and have enjoyed those. And I watch youTube videos for hours and hours every week. How did I not think to look for your videos? I just discovered them yesterday and I'm sure I spent at least 4 hours watching. What fun! I love how the church bells ring, as if on queue, at certain points as you are reading about momentous events, and the pet photobombing is delightful! I have a tuxedo cat, too! Thank you so much for all of this endlessly fascinating information about the people and events of my favorite historical period, delivered in such an interesting way and with lots of trivia thrown in. When they figure out time travel, I'll know all I need to know when I go back there for a visit although my friend, another lover of that history, says that on arrival we'd be burned at the stake for being witches...or for being too feminist...or something. Ha! Ha! I watch your videos while I knit. Heaven!
You have beautiful pets. Loved the Queen Anne pets story. These little histories bring a nice respite from the sadness of those times. But so sad for the loss of a little friend. Oh well.
I love a person with a houseful of pets! We have 4 dogs...Zemyna (Pom-Chi) - name means Earth Goddess in Lithuanian. Tam-Paton (Terrier/ Chinese Crested ) named after my husband's former manager who loved dogs, Joaquin-Phoenix (Terrier- Chihuahua-short haired), my fave actor...and our 5 pound baby...Rod-Stewart (Terrier- Chihuahua-long haired) who we adopted with that name. People LOVE when I tell them his name...he goes everywhere with us. I think out of all our dogs, Anne would love R-S...he is a tiny cuddler who loves to be with me, on my lap or beside me. Thanks again for sharing photos of your pets...I love that they all get along and I love that there are so many that have a good home!
Your videos are amazing! So much on RUclips is click bait and end up being ‘we don’t know, we can only guess’ Your videos offer researched scholarship and are insightful as well as a breath of fresh air.
Love your pets! I hope they all get on well together. I have a Greyhound and she would be scared stiff of a cow. She would hide behind me and hope the thing would go away!
Judd you look so comfy ! He has the same attitude as my Whippet Chip, he loves the sofa too and to snuggle under his very own doggy blanket .. It is fascinating to think of Anne having pets, it somehow makes her more real and present, if that doesn't sound silly. Another great video, thank you
I have only recently become of your recordings. I am so enjoying listening to you. Learning what is truth or not. Also have to say Love your beautiful obviously much loved pets.
Why oh why don't history teachers make facts come alive like you do. I listen to you every day and have learned so much. I go and look things up and research more. Thank you!
Hi Claire! Being an animal lover myself, this was fascinating. Thank you. I love your fur babies, & realize I had their names mixed up😩. I love the little lion king toy! My Shih Tzu, Mr Perry carries his red pacifier with him everywhere. When he gets a new one, it HAS to be a red one. No other color will do! Lol! Love from Wisconsin💖👸👑🏰🎪🎭🐈🐶
Yes, my Bram could be Oreo's brother too! Only Bram has a really cute lil black spot on his nose :) I always think "Hey, why's Bram in Claire's video?" for a second :D
I love all your, pets. I think it's interesting that Anne had a dog name Purquoi-Why in French-I took French in High School and my first year of college. I have Jack Russells that turn their heads when you talk to them.
Lady Lisle was essentially running a pet store in Calais! I didn't know Anne liked songbirds, though I knew about her love for dogs and distaste for monkeys. Purkoy may have been a Bichon Frise, Italian greyhound, or Maltese; all these breeds were tremendously popular in Renaissance France. Interestingly, I understand the dog which accompanied Mary Queen of Scots was a Maltese; the dispatch from Fotheringay described it as a "Terrier," meaning a small dog. Later Stuart hagiography portrayed the dog as a Skye terrier or a King Charles spaniel, emphasizing the Scottish rather than French aspect of Mary's origins.
Oh Claire how wonderful to see all your amazing pets, love and adore cats, always had at least six when we were married, bringing home my daughter Sarah from hospital our black fluffy cat called lola took one look at her and promptly left the house In Disgust, deciding to live with the next door neighbour, ha ha ha... Majesty is fantastic I must say... Take care Paula in Sussex
It's kind of a weird thought, the Tudors having pets. I can see Anne wanting companion animals for sure, but Henry? Not so much. I feel like his "pets" would be considered more like symbols of his status as King, not because he found any enjoyment or pleasure in their companionship. As for your babies? Adorable - every single one of them! That picture of Oreo watching the penguins was great. "From one tuxedo to another... I like your style!"
Hi Claire. For some reason I have always imagines 'Purkoy as a little black French pug with a very funny inquiring expression on his face and as you say, his head possibly tilted to one side when he is spoken to.....
Like your pets. Oreo seems to be a climber often seen in the background. Queen Ann certainly had a lot of animals given to her. More insight into this gracious lady.
Hi Claire, I have been a big fan off Anne Boleyn for the past two years now. I love watching your videos. I watch them everyday. I have a question for you on Anne Boleyn - why was she executed with a sword? Was it because she was known as the french lady because she spent most off her life in France being lady in waiting to Mary Tudor and Queen Claude? Or was it because deep down he still loved her and didn’t want it to be painful but felt like he had to? Or because she had a child with him? I had this discussion with some people and I had been wondering since.
I think a mixture of both of your former assumptions. He allowed her to be executed French style as it he knew it is what she would have preferred, and gave her the 'mercy' of having a trained swordsman do the honours. She was originally going to be burned, before Henry changed mind.
I'm with Anne. I despise monkeys or anything simian, and peacocks, while lovely, sound obnoxious. I read somewhere that she had a favourite scent and favourite flowers, but I can't remember where I read this. Have you ever heard of this? I want to say it was something like cornflowers or something... it's bugged me for a long time because I've been reading about Anne for over 40 years now.
Fascinating. Your pets are adorable, loving the name Majesty. I have a dog called Blade, he is twelve and looks about twelve weeks old, because he is a westie/shih tzu mix. We also have an eighteen year old cat called Bobby, who is all but deaf, has kitty dementia, but is a huge lovey. Be honest, if it was totally up to you, would all of your pets have Tudor names? lol that would be awesome. Once our 'free roaming' (as in non caged) pets go, we will be sticking to guinea pigs and I want two, if it is a male (neutered) and female, it would Hicks & Ripley and if its two females, Ripley & Newt. Hubby was always keen to have two pets called Kibbles & Bits or a cat called Cooking Fat, but never did lol I adore animals. It so utterly brought a sense of connection, by relating to these characters through animals.xx
Much thanks for this special look at Anne's life through the animals she did/didn't love. It all makes her more of a "real" person, and shows no matter what period of time, we always have wished for a connection to animals. Wow I’ve never thought about her having pets, very interesting ❤️

That was very interesting, and seeing your pets in the end made this video even better!
How interesting!!! I also haven't ever given much thought to her having pets. LOVE the slideshow of your crew. Thanks for posting this!

@John Smith I wouldn't go that far lol
Thank you Claire. I love your videos and have a great deal of empathy for Queen Anne Boleyn. You have adorable fur-babies.

Cant remember cats as being a royal pet, except Louis XV a lifelong cat lover who owned several white angora cats
The Egyptian Pharaohs, maybe?
I did wonder if she had pets and yes one of yours was in the back ground lovely seeing your pets too the all look happy and relaxed thank you xx
I love your videos, they are so interesting and educational. But I have to say, it's nice to see your furbabies straight on instead of just little glimpses here and there. Thank you for showing us those pictures. :)
Loved seeing your pets! I think I've seen your cats in several videos lol! :)
It is nice to know that Anne Bolelyn had a soft spot for pets. I loved the picture of your pets.
Sweet topic. I love Tudor history and I love animals.

She's a real mixture, we don't know what she has in her.
What an interesting combination of names for your pets. Some common, some more unique.
Fascinating! Thank you!

One of the black and white cats made an appearance, going through the arched doorway behind your left shoulder. You have lovely pets!

Happy 3rd birthday to my border Collie/black lab mix Ruby! And an honorable mention for her big ‘sister’ Daisy. 🐕🐕
Happy birthday to her! Is she long furred like our Pippa?
No. But her “sister” Daisy is very very fuzzy. She’s a chow/border collie mix.
Hi Claire. For some reason I have always imagines 'Purkoy as a little black French pug with a very funny inquiring expression on his face and as you say, his head possibly tilted to one side when he is spoken to.....

Love how you love Aliens! One of my favourite films! But how could you not call the two Ripley & Jonesy? 😉
@@h.calvert3165 My favourite movie. If it were to be a ginger cat, I would. But Ripley and Newt and Ripley and Hicks, I just love them together. :)

Good choices. Here's to the death of alien Queens! Except Katherine of Aragon & Anne of Cleves, of course! 👑
Thank you, I like your videos
Great video, great music. What is it?
I can't remember off the top of my head.
