I think her loving him is actually endearing, and shows the true nature of children. I actually love that she still loves him. What is "creepy" or sad, is that without guidance, she will date a man who will treat her poorly, just like he treated her mother, because that is what love looks like to her, and subconsciously it will feel familar.

Her mother ruin that for her. The daughter uses food to comforted her. Most likely her dad made her believe she was his cuddle bear with rosey cheeks, as long as he was there... . When one parent is a narcissist, usually one of the children will be also. Smh. If there are multiple children, one will be codependent and take after the codependent parent. I know from experience. It’s all about survival. If one parent is constantly being abused and mistreated, some children will see that as weakness, so they take on the narcissist traits. Other children, who are empathetic and feel for the mistreated parent will become a codependent, always taking care of others and shielding them.

Mine too, but I was the other way around. Mine was in my life until I was 11 or 12, mom couldn't take the childishness and substance abuse anymore so she kicked him out and I saw just how dependent on her he was all that time. Went from one gov housing to another because he'd break stuff, not pay for stuff when he had the money because it went on drink, couldn't hold down a job, offered me drugs at 12. Then he disappeared when I was about 14 with no word. Thankfully my stepdad came into my life shortly after and I've healed a lot from having him and seeing what a real father figure is. It honestly did break my heart and traumatise me though, I felt like I had another sibling and not a father growing up. He w so volatile and irresponsible, no ownership or accountability. I was always ashamed of him and embarrassed that he was my father. I felt lesser than my peers who had functioning dads. And yet I felt so unworthy and betrayed when he left because I still lived him and tried to do right by him in all the chaos.

Iyanla said, "Your life as you know it, is over." This episode was so deep & enlightening! In the begining, Dwight was really getting on my nerves with the childish behavior...you could really see by Dwight's behavior that he had 'mommy issues' & because his wife was dealing with her own stuff they, as a family, just remained 'stuck' in the dysfunction & burdened their daughters with it...with no way out! I definitely think Dwight needs to work on relationship with his mother before he can work on relationship with wife. Shows how very important that if the foundation is not solid & strong, it all falls apart...everyone is impacted. The representation of their 'baggage' in the dirt was so effective!
