The stadium was smaller then, and they couldn't fit us in the stands, so they put us in folding chairs on the sidelines. We trailed at halftime and came back to win the game. The weather was miserable which made the experience all the more memorable. Awesome time, great memories!
There is a definite worry about tackling in the secondary at Penn State so far, they seem off target and much less powerful as tacklers but every year cannot be perfect so I am giving them time to adjust and cover the loss of Winston.

Just a disinterested observer who recognizes the positive impact that a resurgent Notre Dame could have on college football because of its national following and cultural prominence. I agree that they have been a massive disappointment this year. I don't think _anything_ will clear away the fallout of the Irish losing to a MAC team, no matter how well-prepared NIU was or how well their team played. You don't need to look as far as USC for PSU's first loss. Next week could be a wakeup L against Illinois. The Ilini can pass the ball and has a pretty good RB committee w/ a 250lb RB, a pair of excellent Wide-outs and a QB playing at near-elite levels.

Feels like this Pate take is a massive overreaction based off one bad half. If we had 3 games of sample and they looked mid vs another team it would be way different
@@RSeakerOL has been good. Avg 228 yards rushing on 5.8 ypc so far. Played lights out in pass coverage vs WVU. Allowed 2 sacks vs BGU but the one was definitely on Allar. Saunders and Clifford need to get healthy and Fleming needs to be more involved
We'd all like to forget the inexplicable losses to unranked opponents. Or last 15 seconds loss to Ohio. Maybe Freeman needs an exorcism as it doesn't make any real sense.
I can't bring myself to say DJU was the wrong QB. I don't think I heard a single person say inside or outside the program, at least not loudly enough I heard it, that DJU was going to be a QB that could elevate FSU like Ward is doing at Miami. He was always supposed to be a piece that fit into a scheme. That scheme was supposed to include first and foremost good defense. I think people envisaged a sort of post Ben Rothlisberger Steelers team for FSU this year. QB play isn't going to win them games, but their defense sure will. Frankly I almost don't even care what the whole offense has done, the defense is so astoundingly disappointing that they're the reason I'm disappointed in FSU as a whole. If I had to look at the offense, I still wouldn't be looking at DJU. They currently have 71 carries for 156 yards, and a 2.2 yard per carry average. Even if you wanted to remove DJU's 23 attempts it's still 3.5 yards per carry with 170 total yards. I'm leaving DJU's carries and negative yards in because whatever else he was as a QB at Clemson and Oregon State, the man could run. He had 1,132 yards in his prior four seasons, averaged 3.5 yards per carry. It's not an astounding total (3.5 ypc), but it's markedly better than -14 yards on 23 attempts. This team is a mess, DJU appears (to me) to be the only one who even gives a damn. Blaming him for not being something literally nobody was saying he was capable of just lets off all the other players who are absolute dumpster fires right now.
Season ain't over yet. And we just won 66-7. And the schedule keeps getting easier and easier. So after the win against Purdue, there's a feeling that everything is back on track. And NIU was merely an aberration. So if we're 10-1 vs USC to close out the year with a playoff bid in the balance, I don't know how disappointing that would be. But after NIU we'll just take it one week at a time.
Notre Dame's preseason rank by the AP was #8. NO ONE HAD THEM WINNING THE NC. NO ONE HAD THEM IN THE TOP 4. Obviously no one expected a 2 point last minute L at home to NIU. But if they finish 11-1 with a ROAD W OVER USC in W12, ND will get in the CFP. Even if they finish 10-2, they have a shot. Their margin of error us thin, and they can't get an auto bid like some 2 loss teams will. So quit wetting the bed you clueless whining babies.
@@Joeyjojoshabbadoounder Freeman we never know which game might turn into a complete disaster. I don't know what it is and why it is happening but it is there
Why is Florida is disappointment? Everyone and their mother9except for you) knew Florida was going to be bad. 5 wins would've been a successful season for Florida. Napier was on the hot seat going in. This is exactly what was expected. SMU should be on this list
Apparently you can be pre-season ranked top 25 and lose to an unranked NIU and be super disappointed… but if you also are pre-season ranked and lose to the team at home by 10 to the team who lost to NIU, hey, no big deal…
Ranked at 20 and ranked top 10 are miles apart. We are under new coaching staff, and our the first game is against a blue blood, which we took to the second half of the 4th quarter. Our QB was also puking, and was injured during the game. Our backup throttled Florida, and showed he can be QB1 if our first guy can’t stay healthy or return to his former self. A&M is absolutely on pace to end the year exactly where they started, and could easily be much better if we continue to improve the offense. After the last couple years of Aggie Football, that’s nowhere near disappointing.
@@McFarkle Miles apart? Really? Is that why A & M was favored by 2.5 points? Notre Dame has had struggles too. Their O-line had a COMBINED 6 starts… two of which had season ending injuries against Purdue. But they rallied after the NIU loss and scored more points against Purdue than any team has ever done in their 137 year history. If ND is a disappointment for losing to NIU then so is T A&M for losing to that same team at home, especially when they were favored.
@@John_Hoover Are you going to argue that top 10 and #20 are even close? Sure we were “favored” (2.5 points is essentially a toss up), but that’s because we have a good home field advantage, and it almost worked. A brand new program leadership playing a blue blood in their first game is never a good idea, and barely losing isn’t that bad. And even if ND is worse than NIU, it’s always way more embarrassing to lose to the no name G5 than the certified blue blood. He also said that ND isn’t a bust, just a disappointing start for a team with such hype, especially carrying the extra hype they got from beating us. We on the other hand were always a question mark, and our first game put us in the “probably okay” category at worst, which is what many people expected. No one was ever saying we were a lock for the playoffs, but ND was until NIU, that’s why they are disappointing.
@@McFarkle I disagree that ND was ever “a lock” for the playoffs. Who knew on day one that FSU would be a dumpster fire? Louisville could easily be a top 10-15 team, and top 10 USC won’t be a pushover. And with no conference championship there’s already very little room for error. The fact they beat A&M when they were favored to lose, and then curb stomp Purdue tells me they shouldn’t be a disappointment (at least not yet). But if they are, A&M is also. Frankly, outside of FSU, how can anyone really say ANY TEAM is a disappointment when there’s still at least 10 games to play? No one has been eliminated yet. Hell, ND was preseason #8 (I believe). Is it not possible they still end the season at #8?
@@John_Hoover I mean his definition of disappointment seems to just mean they aren’t off to as hot of a start as they were supposed to be, especially if one of their strongest positions is weak. OSU (who I’m also a fan of) and Penn State are both undefeated, yet made the list for their run game and defense respectively being lackluster compared to last year and the expectations. He said it himself that really only FSU is already a bust, the others just have some work to do. ND’s biggest challenge this year was us, especially once FSU dumpster fired themselves, but as soon as they get over that hump, they lose to NIU. They should have been able to close out the season with maybe one loss to USC and easily be top 12. Now they will have to fight the rest of the year. We may have lost to them, but that’s recoverable and not a serious stain on the record. We also beat Florida handily in their own house to set the stage for SEC play. 2-1 is an acceptable place to be as long as the loss is to ND. ND being 2-1 would also probably be acceptable, but that loss needed to be to us to make it that. Loosing to NIU or Purdue, just like if we lost to McNeese or Florida, is just a bad start to the season no matter how the other two games went.
Notre dame was in a war with Texas A&M and didn’t have roster depth to begin the season, they got beat by a fresh northern Illinois team that was playing their Super Bowl, they pounded Purdue….move on
Guess all that undefeated should be in the playoff talk is over. Worst disappointment for me, another less than sub par SC Gamecock season. With all kinds of positive talk, bright future,( for one year with transfer portal) Based on the last 15 years and this schedule, Carolina will go 2-6 maybe 3-5 in the SEC and if they lucky get a shot at a sub par bowl game bowel at the end. Still same ole SC noting new. Never been worth a shit since Steve Spurrier left. and whomever hired Will Muschamp as head coach should have been fired./ Wasted millions and a few season on that BS. Beamer is not producing yet. Refs sucked and killed that LSU that should have been the turning point finally for beamer and this program. but guess that didnt fit their narrative at this time.
How can you already bitch about a sub par season AFTER beating up Kentucky and almost beating LSU? We were the better team and LSU has better talent than us. You look at this team after 3 games and cry...that's just ridiculous! You have a subpar mentality
Hey Josh, Bowling Green came within two plays of beating Texas A&M at Kyle Field. It's not hard to see that BG has a really, really good football team this year. This BS and wrongful shade your throwing at Penn State is true ignorance on your part. So now be a MAN and apologize to the entire Nittany Nation for being wrong . By the way, today Penn State's offense put up over 700 plus yards and scored 56 points. the defense gave up zero points . Your assessment of Penn State because they didn't blow out BG is warped and downright ignorant. So be a MAN and admit you were wrong, and that you jumped to conclusion way too soon.
If you seriously thought ND in the era of NIL and and still holding true to academic standards underneath a first year coach would be taking off? Then that’s unrealistic. Brian Kelly didn’t really get the ball rolling until 2017 after a terrible 2016
I have Penn state at this point at 7-5 at best. They look absolutely terrible and we are two games and a bye week into the season and they’ve got an extraordinary amount of long term possibly season ending injuries among their best players. I think USC and OSU are going to really light them up…very badly. Out of the top 25 I can’t find a more overrated team right now. Maybe it’ll change but I don’t see how.
@jah8199 Agreed, that's why they play the games, hopefully I am right, but sadly 😥 you never know, we just lost our best safety long term and 1 of the best in the nation!!! Injuries are starting to worry me, even though we are talented and deep!!! WE will find exactly how talented and deep!!! Lol WE ARE

How does ND get 3/4's of their games at home? Same with FSU and U of F getting 2\3's of them. All these complaining even though they have an unfair advantage to begin with, let alone influencing the official's calls. Everyone should get half home and half away. Simple
DOZENS AND DOZENS OF SCHOOLS GET 7 OR 8 Home Games. Notre Dame WON AT TEXAS A&M AND AT PURDUE SO FAR, 2 POWER 4 CONF WINS ON THE ROAD. THE LOSS WAS AT HOME. SO WHAT'S YOUR POINT? 🤪 🤣 🤪
@@Necile2 I don't think they have 6 away games, but the GA TECH game is in Atlanta's pro Dome, which is minutes away from GA Tech's campus, obviously for ticket sales purposes, because their on campus stadium is small. @@rancidity he was good last year! Which player at Oregon state made it happen more than him???? He was the team and reason for the success. He was ok at best at Clemson. So was the the other qb. He sucks at fsu. Norvel sucks. Let’s say dj was at usc or Texas or Mississippi, he’d be fine or better than that

Came here expecting to hear about my Ducks… That’s ok, I’m disappointed enough for both of us I guess.
How did Auburn escape this list
The open portal and NIL are continuity and development killers!
I’m surprised he didn’t mention Michigan and their quarterbacks tbh
Or maybe the battery is just dead. It sure isn’t strong enough to turn over the engine. It needs an overhaul and a new driver
Where is the nc state section am I the only one disappointed so far
Go Wolf pack!
I said from the very start, and i have the receipts, that Napier was the wrong coach. His personality just was never gonna fit in at a program like Florida.
I’m disappointed in West Virginia.

Be real with everyone
if you didn’t see fsu fall down since last year you aren’t a football fan
No team goes 13-0 and all
Their leaders leave cause they didn’t play in playoffs and gave up on fans gave up on school gave up on culture of Seminole football
Sorry when you lose 63-3 cause no one wanted stand up for fsu even when screwed shows they had this coming big time
You lose control of players
You can’t coach a system team Back
And sorry but your Line can be as great as God mode but when your team already has give up moods since last year your not winning games sorry that’s just facts
Josh, I am willing to bet my own money that PSU will not let a QB go 16/20 on them in one half the rest of the season. I still trust our defense, and trust it more than our offense.
Feels like this Pate take is a massive overreaction based off one bad half. If we had 3 games of sample and they looked mid vs another team it would be way different
Not aggressively improving the OL & WRs over the past few years through the portal is confounding.
I can’t thank Norvell enough for turning down the Bama job…ROLL TIDE ROLL!
Like they actually wanted him 😂no way in hell
Norvell is the problem.
Well said
You can’t blame the coach when the players don’t play up to the 5 star rating.End of story.
Did you write Notre Dame off, Josh?
so would you say that Notre Dame was over-rated?
I don’t think he will never admit this
Season ain't over yet.
I don't know what it is and why it is happening but it is there
Yes 😂
Josh Florida has a 😂 dead battery called Basement Billy is over his head
Why is Florida is disappointment? Everyone and their mother9except for you) knew Florida was going to be bad. 5 wins would've been a successful season for Florida. Napier was on the hot seat going in. This is exactly what was expected. SMU should be on this list
FSU, Notre dame, Florida. In that order. We knew Florida would suck(except delusional UF fans), but daaaaaamn. They blow too.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
Pate is amazing. At least he admits his notre dame bias but to carry it over into rankings and stats etc is terrible

Notre Dame was 12-0, ranked #1 and played in the BCS NC in 2012 in Kelly's 3rd year drip.
@@kbrewski1 but we really took off in 2018
I have Penn state at this point at 7-5 at best. They look absolutely terrible and we are two games and a bye week into the season and they’ve got an extraordinary amount of long term possibly season ending injuries among their best players.
I think USC and OSU are going to really light them up…very badly. Out of the top 25 I can’t find a more overrated team right now.

Notre Dame and Penn State are the same program with different skins
Notre Dame has played in a BCS NC and 2 CFPs in the last 12 years. Penn St hasn't done squat since the mid 80s. Dork.
ND is playing six away games this year - three at neutral sites. Where you get that crap?
@@Necile2
I don't think they have 6 away games, but the GA TECH game is in Atlanta's pro Dome, which is minutes away from GA Tech's campus, obviously for ticket sales purposes, because their on campus stadium is small. That obviously benefits both schools, but it's certainly a road game being in Atlanta.
@@kbrewski1 The Navy and Army games are also away games being played at their nearby stadiums. They have six away games regardless. They only play six games in ND stadium.
