Batman - Black Mirror has to be the darkest Batman comic Ive read, and absolutely fantastic. One that I'll definitely read again. The Earth One series is great too, only two so far but I hear a third is coming out soon.
Absolute Gurkha sadly we still don’t hav vol 3 yet wat is taking Geoff Johns so long ehh I guess him and Gary Frank r too busy working on Doomsday Clock
My Top Underrated Batman Comics:Batman-Legends of the Dark Knight:Shaman;Batman-Night Cries; The Ten Nights of the Beast;Legends of the Dark Knight:Venom; The Cult. Not necessarily in this order.
Don't know if you left it out because you don't favour it or because DG is Batman in it, but The Black Mirror is fantastic. Gordon's son coming back and the whole gritty, extremely dark undertone of the book is played out to perfection for me. Although, for a first timer I'd imagine seeing DG in the cowl might be confusing. Good list though, mate!
A Lonely Place of Dying By Marv Wolfman and George Perez is a great story that I feel is underrated, it features the first appearance of Tim Drake and even gives reasoning to one of the criticisms of Batman v Superman. And if you're a Robin hater then it might change you're opinion
This is exactly what I was looking for!! SO refreshing to get some recommendations/reviews of some great batman comics that aren't the usual top 10. I would love to see a part2 of this video!... Please
i have read face to face, the joker story and no man's land. Although I think they were all great I don't think that topped Dark Knight returns, but hey it's just my opinion - thanks for the recommendations - enjoyed all of them
My list of the most underrated Batman comics will mostly come down to the stories published in the Legends of the Dark Knight series, which I find to be criminally underrated as an ongoing series. In no particular order, my list would probably go: Legends of the Dark Knight: Shaman. Legends of the Dark Knight: Mask. Batman: The Fugitive. Legends of the Dark Knight: Venom. Legends of the Dark Knight: Faith.
Everyone loves Dark Victory & Long Halloween (which I do too!) but Haunted Knight is on those levels too even for being a 3 issue story compared to 13 or 14. Shaman is fantastic and a great layer of story to add to Year One being that it takes place at the exact same time of that story. I believe that Under The Red Hood for being quite popular, doesn’t get the recognition it deserves for the fantastic captivating story it tells. Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet is a GREAT Early first robin story. As well as both Robin Year One & Batgirl Year One.
The Dark Knight Returns ain't overrated. Have you read the run-of-the-mill comics? They have a knack of telling you how important the character is. P.S. I think the most underrated Batman story is Prey, beautifully gothic and creepy.
I agree 100 percent. Prey is my favorite story too. And TDKR is far from overrated, its a masterpiece buuut i also know what OP meant by that. Its frustrating that its so highly regarded to the point that the rest of batmans rich history goes unacknowledged.
@@vitocorleone2413 I read TDKR when it was first released in the mid-'80s, and the line "Why do you think I wear a target on my chest?" has stuck with me to this day, as has Joker breaking his own neck to frame Batman. Plus, I have a trade paperback edition in addition to the original individual issues, so the story itself is that good.
Dude how do your vids not have more views?! Your comic knowledge is solid and you seem like a pretty cool guy. I think your vids rock!! Anyone of ever tell you ya look kinda like Jason Lee from My Name is Earl? He's a big comic fan too btw
As someone who's always aspired to start a comic book collection and just started one yesterday (Batman Year One, Arkham Asylum and Knightfall Broken Bat) What should I get. I've written down on a list the essentials like Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Hush, Man Who Laughs, Killing Joke, Noel, Civil War, Walking Dead, Death in the Family (Both Versions), Death of Superman collections, certain Star Wars comics and others. Can whoever sees this type comments that say what other essential comics are. I'm a huge nerd for almost everything, so Deadpool, Spiderman, Star Wars, Superman and ESPECIALLY Batman. Please I just want the essentials and thank you
Nice list man, you gave me some great recommended reading. I was wondering if you could do the same thing for superman as I see the same stories posted on top ten list, and hey why stop there?
Thank you or these recommendations. I am quite new to the Batman comic world so would you say that "Broken City" and "Haunted Knight" are underrated and/or worth buying as well? I am not under the impression that these two are praised by many. However, since I am German I looked for Top 10-Batman Comics lists on German websites too and I came across two lists. One included "Broken City" and the other one included "Haunted Knight". Those weren't "Top 10 underrated Batman Comics" lists by the way. I really enjoyed "The Long Halloween" and "Dark Victory" so I guess "Haunted Knight" could be a safe choice right?
There's a new trade coming in 2017 which I believe is Batman by James Robinson (I think), which will contain the story! cause it's the over of the trade I believe. I seen it on Amazon as I regularly check. I'd check it out if I were you :)
Hey Will. I know this is an old vid but I have a small question. What is Road to No Mans Land. I know what Cataclysm and No Mans Land is but what exactly is ROAD to Know Mans Land.
I totally agree that Dark Knight Returns is the most overrated Batman story. It's not even that I was disappointed because of overhype either because I got it under the premise that it was good and thought it was ok, only to find that it is considered one of the best Batman stories ever told... Hm.
DizzyWolf01 . I think it's pretty subjective. Even if someone loved the book, it's overrated because it's so highly regarded it casts a shadow on the rest of the stories.
What i dont get is how ots considered a twist ending. Oh theres a new villain running around? Certainly couldn't be this new character with a million flashbacks throughout the book Overall i like the story Just think ot couldve been structured better
The weakest part of "Hush" for me was the first three or four issues. Once I got past those, I really got into it, which I don't remember experiencing with Superman story Jim Lee drew afterward.
Batman - Black Mirror has to be the darkest Batman comic Ive read, and absolutely fantastic. One that I'll definitely read again. The Earth One series is great too, only two so far but I hear a third is coming out soon.
Absolute Gurkha I loved Earth One book one. It has the best alfred imo.
The hardest Alfred for sure...
Absolute Gurkha sadly we still don’t hav vol 3 yet wat is taking Geoff Johns so long ehh I guess him and Gary Frank r too busy working on Doomsday Clock
SAMCRO Till I Die same I really really Batman Earth One
Absolute Gurkha ya Scott Snyder did an amazing job with Batman Black Mirror before he did Court Of Owls I just love it
The Man Who Laughs is one of must read. Don't understand why is not so well known as others.
Fragrance Tattoo It is but it’s ranked much lower compared to most Bat-books
My top 5 Batman story
Most underrated batman comic: The Cult
Gray Fox It's on my must read list. I have it, but it's in my backlog
I agree, a great Batman comic. Got it on .cbr but ordered it and will pick it up when I next go back to UK. One of my favorite Batman comics for sure.
My Top Underrated Batman Comics:Batman-Legends of the Dark Knight:Shaman;Batman-Night Cries; The Ten Nights of the Beast;Legends of the Dark Knight:Venom; The Cult. Not necessarily in this order.
I like Dark Knight Rises the way it is. But that's just me
Don't know if you left it out because you don't favour it or because DG is Batman in it, but The Black Mirror is fantastic. I thought Tim drake first appeared in, Dark Victory?
Dragon Ballzzz Deep that robin was Dick Grayson
This is exactly what I was looking for!! SO refreshing to get some recommendations/reviews of some great batman comics that aren't the usual top 10. I would love to see a part2 of this video!... Please
Agree with you but what about Shaman and Gothic? That should've been on the list.
Sohom Bhattacharjee You're right. totally forgot about those! Great reads
i have read face to face, the joker story and no man's land. Although I think they were all great I don't think that topped Dark Knight returns, but hey it's just my opinion - thanks for the recommendations - enjoyed all of them
Great lesser known batman stories:
Batman: Haunted Knight
Batman: Under the Hood
Batman: The Black Mirror
Batman: Earth One
The black mirror is sick man!
Black mirror and earth one are very well known

Nobody talks about Black & White, like, ever. Why?
Everyone loves Dark Victory & Long Halloween (which I do too!) but Haunted Knight is on those levels too even for being a 3 issue story compared to 13 or 14. Raymond Myers . It seems you described how it is overrated, so thanks for clarifying that.
the story was ok, the art was kinda dull, i think the reason why the dark knight returns is a legend cuz it's influence, not the story itself
@@vitocorleone2413 I read TDKR when it was first released in the mid-'80s, and the line "Why do you think I wear a target on my chest?" has stuck with me to this day, as has Joker breaking his own neck to frame Batman. Is knightfall seriously worth 3 volumes over 300 pages each?
Underrated batman comics
1. Cycle of violence
2. Detective comics 1939 no.27
3. The batman adventures annual #1
4. As the crow flies
5. Mad love
Good list. Props to you for including Prey. Thats my favorite batman story. After seeing this Im definitely going to check out face the face.
Most underrated batman comic to me is The Sword of Azrael
Dude how do your vids not have more views?! Your comic knowledge is solid and you seem like a pretty cool guy. I think your vids rock!! Anyone of ever tell you ya look kinda like Jason Lee from My Name is Earl? He's a big comic fan too btw
Mayor McTroma First i've been told I look like Jason Lee but I'll take it!
As someone who's always aspired to start a comic book collection and just started one yesterday (Batman Year One, Arkham Asylum and Knightfall Broken Bat) What should I get. Batman Arkham Asylum A Serious House On Serious Earth is underrated in my view
Nobody ever mentions Ten Nights Of The Beast, its almost like a 1980's action movie.
Never heard of face to face. is hush the only book I should have read to be prepared to read face to face?
Excellent selections!
A few other forgotten gems:
The Batman Vampire Trilogy
Batman Speeding Bullets
The Dark Knight Golden Dawn
Doug Moench pronounces his name Mench rhymes with bench the O is silent
That's how I've been pronouncing it. Thanks for the confirmation.
Thank you for this video it was extremely informative and I really appreciate it
I just got into batman and spiderman graphic novels. Found these helpful
Nice list man, you gave me some great recommended reading. I was wondering if you could do the same thing for superman as I see the same stories posted on top ten list, and hey why stop there?

+SoulTrain I wouldn't recommend Brocken City. Haunted Knight is very different from Long Halloween and Dark Victory but still a fun read.
+The Wulff Den Fuck You!!!
Good call on the Prey storyline instead of the one in dark knight rises.
I love Prey and I love Hugo Strange. I really want a Batman movie adapted from Prey.
Face the Face appears to be out of publication?
DizzyWolf01 Is it? Shit, hunt that one down while you can!
There's a new trade coming in 2017 which I believe is Batman by James Robinson (I think), which will contain the story! cause it's the over of the trade I believe. I seen it on Amazon as I regularly check. I'd check it out if I were you :)

Great recommendations! wow thanks
Batman: the Cult, is a fantastic book and super underrated.
What about Arkham Knight: Genesis???
Broken City is another underrated book. I think I’ve seen it only once on someone’s list.
Did you like black MIRROR ?? I LOVED IT..!!
Even if someone loved the book, it's overrated because it's so highly regarded it casts a shadow on the rest of the stories.
hey what do you think of batman the black mirror??
Live To Rock Black Mirror is a 5 star work. Maybe Scott Snyder's masterpiece
yeah probably
You sir win, because yes, Face the Face is indeed amazeballs!
Hush is great until the 3rd act or the ending whatever
What i dont get is how ots considered a twist ending. Oh theres a new villain running around? Certainly couldn't be this new character with a million flashbacks throughout the book
Overall i like the story
Just think ot couldve been structured better
The weakest part of "Hush" for me was the first three or four issues. Once I got past those, I really got into it, which I don't remember experiencing with Superman story Jim Lee drew afterward.
If you were reading it as it came out monthly it probably would have been kinda shocking.
I really like batman no man land Ill check it out...
Come on people! Hush Rules!
I wildly disagree dark knight returns is amazing
Personally didn’t like the man who laughs all that much. Too short and felt the story was mediocre.
No man's land is good, but Knight fall is better
tbh i thibk made of wood is better then the man who laughs
Batman No Man's Land sounds awesome
Most underated movie, movie was awsome
I really enjoyed this top 5 man. I think Hush is a great villain, so I'll definitely be checking out Heart of Hush.
Thanks, been so tired of the rehash telling of the top 10 comic books which are always the same ones
Gothic is the best to me and cult and shaman
you sir have incredible taste
Also "road to no mans land".
Prey is almost too good 🤔
I'm didn't read comments but did you aftershock cataclysm in no man's land arc
