- The Col du Tourmalet is one of the most famous and iconic Climbs there is and Stage 3 was all about it! After stage 1&2 we came up with a plan to make up time and get good results in the GC. This turned out to be a bit different than we expected.....
This is my experience of the Haute Route Pyrenees 2022. Haute Route is the hardest and most complete multi day event you can ride as an amateur cyclist. The stages are very similar to the Grand Tours of World tour Professianal cycists. In this event we raced 5 stages in 5 days, 627km and 15.700m of elevation, starting in Biarritz and ending in Saint Lary.

Yeah man. As serious as I take these races, I still like to sometimes put both feet on the ground and not take life too seriously 😉 it made a good story in this case haha

Did something similar a few years ago 2010 the Etape du Tour did Col de Marie Blanque, Soulor and Tourmalet in 30 degrees. Ouch

How do you decide how long to stay at the feed zone when time is stopped? Could you just stay there for 2hrs if you wanted to completely recover? Also, your production quality keeps getting better and these videos are amazing.
Yeah you can. Watch episode 4 where some guys did this.
In general we just stay there to fill up, grab food (if needed) and than go. Inprefer not to wait because your body cools down and shuts down

Hey I've noticed you switched to garmin from the new wahoo do you like it better ?
I didn’t switch, but used garmin in this case because it works with EatMyRide and Wahoo does not yet. (The app will work but not the glycogen data field)

I think everyone should be made aware of when the timing starts. I think that should have been covered in the prerace briefing.
Yea that’s what I told the organization as well after we found out what happened. They never mentioned it in the briefing🤷🏼♂️

Because there is a difference between pure sugar and complex carbs. Blood sugar and insulin response will be different.

Vraag: in het begin zeg je dat je “maar” 800 gram koolhydraten nodig hebt ipv 1400 de vorige dag. Te weinig is duidelijk niet goed. Maar stel dat je 1000 ipv 800 doet, is dat ook een probleem?
Te veel en je neemt daardoor bijvoorbeeld te weinig ander voedingstoffen in (eiwit of vet) of je krijgt gewoon teveel calorieën binnen wat ook niet nodig is. (Meer gewicht)
Te veel kan denk ik minder kwaad dan te weinig. Maar na 5 dagen 1000gr koolhydraten per dag ben je het goed zat! (Dat zie je ook in aflevering 5 komende zondag. )

These timing rules seem completely confusing and not very good system at all.
Yep it’s to neutralize the dangerous parts of the route so that makes sense but for the race dynamics it’s terrible unfortunately
