I don't think you guys have eaten at enough places in the U.S. to accurately judge the variety of salads. I mean, it's a big country. The European salad Lia described - leaves, feta cheese, tomatoes, and olive oil dressing - is READILY available in the U.S.
We have a lot of excellent salad options in DC - it's not like London though where the choice of food is out of this world. London is the best city there is, so everywhere is going to seem rubbish to you guys!!
They aren't pharmacies, they are retail stores that happen to have pharmacies. Grocery stores have pharmacies too. They couldn't afford to stay open without the high margin and profits from the other merchandise.
I have watched a few of their video's and others trying to get a feel of the mind set of people from those countries. We must try to remember that they live in Socialist/Communist countries and are trained with the mindset that allows few choices. That is how the ruling class maintains control. If the people are made not to have a large choice They will fall in line with the slavery mind set the one percent wants them to have. Eventually they will not be allowed to wipe their own butts until a certain time of day. It is a sad thing to watch. But, it is their choice. Trying to explain to them that life is about choices is kind of futile, It would go against their socialist programing to exercise their minds on such a basic level as to make an informed choice from such a thing as selection.
Or: Acetaminophen is the leading cause of acute liver failure, so they are simply limiting accidental exposure unlike the US where you might easily overdose unless you read all the labels of the cold medicines you may choose - from our overabundance of choices. .
Some "salads" canot be done without mayo: potato salad, chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, etc. There are also some dishes like pear salad ans pineapple salad that have the fruit on a bed of lettuce with a dollop of mayo in the center and a bot of cheese on top.

Mayo is used as the base of creamy salad dressings because it is made of egg yolk, oil and vinegar. The base along with other seasoning is what gives the salad - ‘cold dish of vegetables, dressing (usually seasoned with oil and vinegar) and sometimes meat or fish’ it’s unique tastes.
Chicken "salad", potato "salad" etc have a mayo base and are called "salad" but a normal green salad won't have mayo. I'm in California and we have a lot of kale, arrugula, etc. The health-obsessed population here generally expects the dressing to be served on the side anyway. Low-carb/paleo/high-protein are all the rage right now.
No, no, no, no no. You can't just turn right on red. You have to stop first and if clear, then you can turn right on red. Also, cars are supposed to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk before turning right. There are a lot of drivers who do stupid things, so as a pedestrian never count on the fact a car will actually yield. Make sure your head isn't buried in a phone and you know what's happening around you.
KevlarX2 : key word here is "supposed" - in my daily experience, drivers are "supposed" to drive using sense ability, a respect for the laws of physics, regard for the traffic laws like not running red lights and staying in ones lane, a respect for life of others and an uncommon attribute known as courtesy and brains (don't leave home without them) .

Right on red simply means if you are turning right at a red light and no other cars are coming then you apply the rules as you would a yield sign. Stop, look both ways, if clear proceed with caution. It is meant to help with traffic congestion to reduce long waiting lines when the traffic may be clear. Oh, and if you step out into traffic unaware of your surroundings, remember, cars/trucks/vans/motorcycles/SUV’s are bigger, stronger and faster than you are. Err on the side of caution and obey the laws of the road.
Regardless, you *CAN TURN RIGHT ON RED* in the U.S. In Germany (and I assume the UK), all lanes have to stop at a red light and wait until it turns green, even if they want to turn right. Even if they are turning off a one-way street onto another one-way street. Seems overly cautious to my American sensibilities.

No joke, France, and Italy were smoke bombs... I swear even the dogs had a cigarette hanging out of their lips :) Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia were heavy smokers, they even allowed smoking inside of buildings. In Europe they have smoking rooms in the airports... my friend who was a smoker raced to one in Paris after our long flight, she said she didn't even have to 'light up'.... she just inhaled when she entered the room and she was good to go.

A pedestrian has the right of way over a car turning right on red. If you have the white walking guy sign, you have the right of way, the driver is either being a jerk or doesn't know the law.
Here in Metro Atlanta pedestrians have the right of way in many places. Here in Metro Atlanta pedestrians are run over and killed almost every week. Why take a chance? But I've seen many London Vloggers say that as pedestrians London drivers scare the bejeezus out of them and they don't feel safe crossing streets. So I guess the UK is no better.

Then I have to go home and cook everything. Then we have to wash all the dishes. The next time I have to fix dinner, I drive by Little Caesar’s and swerve in... Feed the entire family for $8. Not triggered, just perplexed. Just because something is offered as a choice (salad dressing or cigarettes and chocolate in CVS) doesn’t mean you have to buy it or order it. And if you do, it’s no one else’s business. Most of us in the US believe in freedom of choice and personal responsibility.
Walgreens and CVS aren’t really pharmacies. They’re actually convenience stores with pharmacies IN them. Real pharmacies are usually in medical buildings or hospitals.
Mayo = is not just mayonnaise but any thick opaque slurry containing oil and vinegar or lemon juice. And weirdly enough SUGAR. A proper salad doesn't need those generous slatherings of gooey stuff called 'dressing'. Many salads are not 'dressed' but 'coated'.
Salads, believe or not, vary in the US depending on which part of the country you're visiting. California does amazing healthy salads and dressings, the veg is often picked fresh that morning-farm to fork.
There are VERY few places in California where salads are picked that morning. You'd literally have to be within a few miles of a farm to do that and even then... Over 90% of salads in California are picked just like salads everywhere, by large corporate farms. Anyway, there are plenty of places around the country where you can get very fresh salads, when in season. NYC is full of salad chains and bodegas which all sell fantastic, fresh, and healthy salads. These two didn't bother looking for them, which is fine, but they're coming out of the gates like they know everything, which they just do not and that is not fine.
LOL I'm lucky - I do live in an area of CA where my salad is delivered to my door within hours of being picked. My kids' schools all have fresh salad bars as part of school lunch too.
George, granted you have to be selective on where you choose to eat, but where I live in Sacramento farm-to-fork it is quite common. In fact, the city markets itself as the farm-to-fork capital. There are farmer's markets every day of the week here where you buy straight off the farmer's truck. I run into my favorite chefs all the time. Also, many restaurants in Sacramento, the Napa Valley, and the SF Bay Area have their own gardens from which they pick. I'm a vegetarian and have traveled quite a bit in this country, and no, not all states are the same. Perhaps you don't know Northern California well.
CA is very health-oriented. I've never seen cigarettes in a CVS but that might be because we just don't go there very often. And salads in CA are very healthy, as far as I've seen - it really depends on where you're going to get your salads (eg, Burger King or Wendy's aren't going to have great salads) and what state you're in (eg Southern states love ranch and really fatty dressings which I've never understood but it's what they like). It varies SO so much depending on where you are, it's hard to make a blanket statement like "America's salads across the board are unhealthy".
We don't walk enough. We drive everywhere. Most do not exercise. We WAY oversize everything at restaurants. Sadly, it is our culture, which is slowly changing as we see it is an epidemic. I have to constantly read labels and I do exercise but most is in diet. Sure, I like to indulge occasionally but what I consider a treat, is most of American's daily/weekly diet. It is not easy to be active and healthy in most of this country!

You don't understand how hot it gets in North America in the summer and how bitterly cold it gets in the winter. Without AC people die from the heat. It is serious business, maybe you're not used to it, but it's a necessity here. When it's over 100 degrees (37 C) and the humidity is around 80%, good luck walking 1/2 block without collapsing. We do eat healthy salads, just don't get them from McDonalds. I've never seen cigarettes in a pharmacy. But, you're in NY so maybe it's okay there. It's not done in Missouri. Smoking is almost illegal here. I love Cheez-Itz too. I usually buy the family size. (Of course, it takes a week or more to eat them.)
The need for heating I understand. But airconditioning is luxury. Humanity has survived in the real tropics for aeons without airconditioning. Fire however has been a necessity.

@Sue Nuckles. I've lived in the tropics for most of the time since the early 1990's, in Africa, Australia and Asia. Predominantly without airconditioning, like most people in tropical climates.
Topical climates are typically very moderate though. Yes, high humidity, but usually not too hot or too cold. I didn't have AC when I lived in the tropical Brisbane, Australia, but you bet your ass it's necessary here in Texas!

But they watch American movies so they know all about America. Not only that, they've actualy been for a couple weeks so they're experts. I live overseas and I noticed that a large number of non Americans have a false image of what the country actually is. They think they know all about it because they watch Hollywood productions and music videos.
I read recently that 62% of brits are overwight or obese vs 65% of Americans.... Considering the portion sizes I think that's not a significant difference. Also, I think what you are defining as a pharmacy is actually a convenience store where you can get many different items.... The pharmacy itself is just an entity, not a stand-alone business.

So sorry about your American experience with salad. The salad differs from restaurant to restaurant. It can be utterly delicious and nutritious or down right unhealthy and may/may not taste good. It all depends on what place that you go to. So don't judge us on your one experience. It is as different as people are different.
This. Fast food places are the ones who usually load theirs with calories. Not sure if Salad Station is a local place, but we have a couple here where you make your own salad and they weigh it. You can potentially have an unhealthy salad or a healthy one.
Personally, I don't use dressing on my salad. For me, a salad will have Romain, some red cabbage, some shredded or sliced carrots for a touch of sweetness, and that's pretty much it.
Oh, it can get hotter than that. I have been in 119 F (I think it was Death Valley or near by). I hiked in 115 F in the desert (Anza Borrego). Actually, it was so dry it only felt like 100 F.

I leave in the Southeast (Georgia) typical May-August weather has temps between 98-105 F, and humidity hovering 80-95%. Without A/C this would be brutal. We usually have a few deaths due to heat every year

The obesity in the US was set in stone since ww2, when they made the American diet to fatten up the really underweight soldiers. They teach in schools and parents teach their kids and give it a few generations with all the technology to make things easier and you made your very own plan of obesity. They didn’t even change the food pyramid til 04 and even then it’s outdated. The pyramid was made to put fat on the skin and boned 16-18 year olds. It had intake a diet of about 6-11 servings of carbs daily that’s insane.

I believe "Triggered" is the appropriate response to that. The UK doesn't do cosmetic orthodontics, we do dentistry for healthcare - more Brits have more healthy teeth than pretty much anywhere. 6:45 CVS, Walgreens, etc. are 'Convenience' stores. The Pharmacy is a department within them. Grocery store chains also have Pharmacies. There are very few dedicated 'Pharmacy only' locations.

NY and NJ have excellent produce and NYC have some of the best restaurants in the world. If you like chicken fried everything, go ahead and visit the south, but legitimately and in all seriousness you should either make your own salad or visit fine restaurants, if you buy prepared salad from fast food like Panera or the supermarket because they know that sugar hides problems with freshness and that sugar is addictive.

While interesting, you're trying to compare and contrast a nation the size and complexity of an entire continent, with the UK. Many of the things you are observing occur and exist in one area of the nation. The US is as diverse, if not more so, than all of Europe. Granted, we do have many consistencies that run through the country, such as the media, but our language, diet, customs and traditions are enormously diverse. The nation you have in mind in many of your questions is a Hollywood rendition of the nation that actually exists.

USA is better by far: Europe means narrow streets, tiny cars parked bumper to bumper, small portion food, little water in toilet, and Europe is a continent with different people, languages and culture, while USA is one great integral lovely country. Love you USA!

Jeremy Clarkson said that turning right on a red light is America's only real contribution to the civilized world. One thing I will disagree with you on (friends can disagree and still be friends) is when you said "New York and New Jersey are still America." That is like saying London is England. Well it is and it isn't. NYC is so very different from Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Buffalo, Omaha, Memphis, Los Angles, Seattle, Boston, get the idea? It is part of the US but to say it truly represents the entire US is a bit of a stretch at best. Now to end on a nice note, Joel is right, AC is wonderful (I live in Alabama, so I know of what I speak). AC, like rainbows and beer, is just one of the things that shows God loves us. All cities, big or small are, in fact, a part of America. They are not indicative of all of America (nothing really is) because the United States is an extremely diverse country as far as cultures and ways of life. Every city is different. Every town is different. Every state is different. Every region is different. It's a collection of 50 different countries.
I'm from New Jersey and I am as much "America" as someone from Idaho. It's just different because it's a big country with many regions. As far as salads, sorry but Joel and Lia sound ridiculous saying salads here are not healthy. Ask for the dressing on the side or just as for oil and vinegar on the side. Problem solved. The salads in New Jersey are large, full of lettuce, tomatoes etc. What do you expect from two tourists who went to White Castle to try some American cuisine.
First of all, the countries are vastly different in population. You'd have to consider proportion when coming up with that figure. Secondly: the point is that while the U.S sells cigarettes in pharmacies with no shame (which are highly toxic and have nothing to do with promoting good health), this is not a practice in the U.K.

Consumption of cigarettes in the UK is certainly more prevalent than in the US. In light of it all, Americans have band smoking in all public places and although that is our current practice..cigarettes aren't good for anyone..no matter how much or how little. Lol! I get triggered when you make such general judgements about the US without understanding our culture and history. As for pharmacies selling everything from cigarettes to health supplies, the American Westward Movement was partly made possible by the concept of the "General Store" which carried everything a frontier family would need and became engrained in American culture. Every little isolated American town that had a general stores and to a certain degree are still practical due the mere size and distances in this country, there is not a "shop on every corner in a vast majority of the US. As far cigarette petitions, your willingness to regulate what people buy and where they buy it is a "triggering" concept to Americans who see this as an infringement on our freedoms. You might be willing to give your freedoms away, we are not. We hate regulation. I don't smoke, but I'll be damned if I tell someone where they can and cannot buy a legal product. Most of the time I really enjoy your posts and I know you are young, but to make judgements about any country, you must understand their history. Salads? You can order something besides Ranch, you know. My favorite is Balsamic Vinegarette.

I, for one, am very happy to live in the US where we are moving toward making most substances legal (ie, Canada already *just* legalized marijuana. We already have medical cannibis but why not legalize it all? FWIW, I never even used it but it has a purpose). So many things are illegal in the UK. Even kratom and kava are illegal and these are herbal substances. We buy with caution. I never used kratom but I love my Gaia Kava capsules that I get from Vitacost in the US! Why ban everything that infringes upon our freedom? I totally agree. Oh, and if I want to buy 1,000 count bottle of ibuprofen, I am sure going to do just that! lol. I love America! :D

To be fair, American pharmacies aren't really 'pharmacies.' It's really a store with a pharmacy inside. It's a separate section of the store. We don't have places just for meds bc the store would be small, a waste of space, and u can't compete with pharmacies in stores.
Sarah Kupka my girlfriend actually works in a flat out pharmacy. It's quite small, but it has a very personalized touch to it. In the hoity toity regions of Florida, you can get away with charging more in a place like that, because of the individualized attention.
In my town we have two small flat out pharmacies. The town I live in is very small so we don’t have a CVS or a Walgreens etc. so we have to get our meds from the small pharmacies or drive and hour away to one of the chains.
CVS and Walgreens are best described as convenient stores that have pharmacies. The entire store isn't a pharmacy. The actual pharmacy is usually tucked to the side or back of the store.
Something you Brits do far better than Americans is that you go out of your way to try and NOT offend. You guys are very tactful , eloquent and at the same time educational. It’s very much appreciated by those of us that have never traveled abroad and have often wondered about our good friends across the pond. I liked the part about A/C because it’s so common and needed here, especially in the Deep South. Our summers are so long and brutal here that people actually die every year simply because they don’t have A/C. They’re usually elderly. Lia, I think you’re absolutely gorgeously adorable. I’m glad I recently found you guys on RUclips since I love learning about our differences and find it wonderful. Imagine how boring life would be if we were all the same. You shouldn't feel that New York and New Jersey are representational of America. There's so much more to see and do. Always remember, each state has its own piece of history in the history of American immigration and as such has its own culture unique from the rest of the country. There's so much more to explore outside of the coastal states which shouldn't be taken for naught. Next time you visit, rent an RV & go exploring for a few months. Go to the mountains of Colorado or the ancestral native sites of New Mexico. Visit Denali in Alaska or the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Visit the down-to-earth people of Missouri or a restaurant in New Orleans. Go visit the House on the Rock in Wisconsin or hike the boundary waters of Minnesota. Visit a dude ranch in Texas or hike the Appalachian Trail. Walk the Hoover Dam and boat down the Mississippi. The best chapters of the book are in the middle because that's where everything happens.
BVSchaefer I could not LOVE this comment more. I think if they had an actual true inkling of America and what it means to have true diversity in regional cultures. I had s man from the UK come into my work and I made a joke about why he would come here from England. His response was the he had seen much of the country and had to admit that it was the most beautiful country he had ever been to in terms of diversity. Not just in people and cultures but in scenery. He said it was the only place he had been to where you could have mountains and deserts and beaches and canyons. Made me appreciate my own country in a way I had not before and it took a Brit to make me see it. They are not all so boorish.

10:25 there are number of reasons for America's obesity epidemic, Central among them is our lifestyle here, which tends to be more work oriented than other countries. So trying to maintain a work-life balance, eat right, and keep up a gym membership when you're working at least 40 hours per week whatever your schedule happens to be, is quite challenging. You have to have a sort of dedication to it that is not as common as people would hope. Me for example, I work 40 hours a week and have over an hour commute each way, which means roughly 11 hours out of each day is engaged with work. Combine this with my family obligations, and visiting a gym becomes a luxury. I do however go to the gym at least 3 times a week, however because of my schedule I have to arrive at the gym at 4:30 a.m. luckily I belong to a gym that is actually 24 hours which is probably another thing that US gyms do better than Europe. By the way the above are not excuses, they're reasons. There are no Solutions in life, there are only trade-offs.
Warpig Johnson regional diets in US are mostly based on the type of work ie places like Minnesota Wisconsin have higher fat diets bc the calories needed to perform the job but that diet has stayed the same instead of changing w the times

Warpig Johnson, I’ve lived in the US for a ling time now, but have never really adjusted fully to the ‘work mindset’ (I’m originally from Germany). Don’t know if you’ve heard of the following saying, but it does adequately capture the different mentality: In The US, people live to work, whereas in Europe, people work to live. And I find a workday in the US much more stressful than in Germany. We’re no slackers, we work hard too, but it’s not as mentally challenging, imo. In the US-maybe because of the political correctness everyone- wild about?-you constantly have to watch what you’re saying to whom, you have to be cognizant of your behavior in general at all times, etc. I’m guessing though that Americans grow up in/with this culture and may not perceive it as draining. :)
Guys, the reason they said that our salads are covered in mayonnaise is because ranch dressing and blue cheese dressing are both mayonnaise-based dressings that have lots of mayonnaise in them. They're right about that. There are also some other mayonnaise-based dressing. A lot of honey mustard dressings have a great deal of mayonnaise in them. Obviously all of these dressings have other ingredients as well. I made ranch dressing from scratch once and was stunned that it was primarily buttermilk, sour cream and mayonnaise that I flavored with herbs and spices. It was delicious, the best that I've ever eaten. After seeing what it was made of I cut back on the ranch dressing.
I love you guys and your observations. However, you do seem to have narrow scope of the culture. I see you buying and eating SO MUCH JUNK! Not everyone eats all that crap even if it is available. Not everyone eats at fast food places. I haven't watched all your shows, but I think it's that your eyes are drawn to the stuff that seems different and crazy and indulgent and that fits with your preconceived ideas of America through film, television and social media. 6:50 well the pharmacy is actually in that store, usually in the back, the rest of the store sells other things. It should be noted that CVS does not sell cigarettes. They stopped several years ago.

I have made ranch dressing and we did use a lot of mayonnaise as well as buttermilk and ranch seasoning. Do they not know mayonnaise is invented by the French?

I live in Southern California and our salads are *AMAZING*!! You ate salads in New Jersey and Texas and want to say American salads are covered in ranch dressing LOL!
In Europe it depends on the region as well. In Central Europe a lot of the vegetables and fuits that need a lot of heat and sunlight are produced in green houses. The taste is ok, but not great. If you go to Southern Europe especially Greece and Balkans, you can buy cheap, very fresh and locally produced vegetables everywhere and they taste amazing.

Obesity is a problem in the USA because too many people eat fast food and prepackaged foods that are filled with fats, sugars, salt and stuff. When I was a kid, if I said I was thirsty, they gave me Kool-Ade instead of water, filled my plate too full, and told me I had to eat it all, because kids were starving in Africa, then rewarded you for eating too much, but adding dessert to the mix. And I rarely saw a veg that didn't come from a can. It was not my family that introduced me to salad.

I grew up poor but we ate a lot of rice and beans and fresh veggies but veggies that were cheap like zucchini squash carrots...and we'd get tons of oranges (we never got sick) lemons and avocados cause my grandparents worked in the orange groves, they ate super healthy they grew a lot of there own stuff. I was was actually thinner when I was in the poverty bracket.
That may work for your down south (where the growing season is practically year round), but just a few hundred miles to the north of Florida, and you cannot grow things past October. ANY things. That's almost the entire country.
I think it’s down to how you were raised my siblings and cousins and me would get locked out side pretty much till dinner was done and if we said we were thirsty we got told to drink out of the water hose 😂 we were constantly out side we got sweet tea and water but we very very rarely got dessert most the time we didn’t even eat any if we did because we were full of food we also had to try everything once with no fuss if you did you got in trouble for making a fuss over it most of us though would eat what ever was in front of us so really it’s how you were brought up at least from my point of view
Cigarettes at Pharmacies: We put personal freedom at the highest value. None of us would expect, nor want, Walgreens to tell us not to smoke or eat unhealthy if that's what we want to do. That's our choice. It's not that they don't care; they are catering to the public expectation of convenience and the liberty to get whatever we want when we want it.

I didn't really find any of it offensive (as an American). Someone being wrong about something they have no/little personal experience isn't offensive to me. These are fairly off the cuff videos, like a conversation you'd have with a friend, instead of an expert educating you on a topic. It's just a style choice, and not one that everyone enjoys.

I don't know where you grew up, but I grew up knowing that you didn't insult, or accuse, assault, or slander, anyone which seems to be the thing now. If someone is polite and civil and not confrontational, people call it "political correctness" it's not political correctness it's being, a decent human being.
I think there is a difference between political correctness and being polite and civil, personally. Of course, there are SOME words or phrases that ARE insulting, but I think it really depends more on the CONTEXT and the TONE of what is being said rather than the actual words. I don't think Joel and Lia are TRYING to insult people, they are just calling it how they see it without butchering or mincing words to skirt an issue that needs addressing. Words are made for a reason- and each one has a specific meaning. Why try to use another word (or set of words) when a certain one will do, even if it's not as flattering? A. Here is an example of being polite and civil: Hey, have you met Jane? She's the short girl over there with the blue dress. You should meet her- she's so totally into the same things as you! B. Here is an example of political correctness: Hey, have you met Jane? They're the vertically impaired person over there with the blue dress.... C. Here is an example of being just plain insulting: Hey, have you met Jane? She's such a midget but she can't help it.... her whole family is short anyway... She's over there in that blue dress- even though she's so short, you might like her anyway because you have so much in common! That being said, I think that people DO need to grow a set and have thicker skin. People don't always say things with the intention of insulting anyone, and for people to be so easily offended and insulted really is getting tiring. If you don't like something someone said, you can say hey that wasn't cool, I found it insulting because xyz, do you mind changing your language next time. Or you can brush it off and chalk it up to ignorance or innocence or just who the person is, and not let it bother you. I'm in Central New York and we actually get comparable heat. Granted, it's for a severely limited time of the year (aka July, August, and the first two weeks of September), but when it happens it's still pretty bad. (Meanwhile we get all four seasons at any given time of the week for the rest of the year). XD And another thing about heat is we've got humid heat, like what you and I experience, and then dry heat, which is what I experienced when I went to Vegas - god now that's fucking awful. That sort of heat slams you in the face when you least expect it. At least with humid heat you feel it the second you step outside and can brace yourself accordingly.
I'm sorry but I'm American, California girl here and who on Earth puts mayonnaise on their salads?! Lol.. I've never seen that before or even heard about that! We do make very good, great healthy salads and there are actually healthy salad dressing that aren't all cream or mayo, and believe it or not, the pieces of chicken that are in some salads are not marinated in thick sugary sauces! What place did you see that at?! I have a fruit salad I prepare in my own home, no side cream or no sugar added. I also have been to many restaurants while traveling or around my town that I always choose healthy foods to eat including salads. There are many varieties of salad dressing to choose from and that's up to someone to want to buy it or not. Trust me, we Americans do eat really good healthy salads and don't put all that unhealthy crap in it like you think. We love tomatoes, in our salads too, and other raw vegetables also!

They had a potato "salad" or egg "salad" somewhere and think that's actually what we have when we eat salads. Or they are confusing mayo with ranch dressing (buttermilk based).
Thousand Island dressing is half mayo half ketchup. Though these days I don't know anyone who puts that in a salad. Yet they still sell em in supermarkets so I guess people still do.
It is more helpful to think of Walgreens as HAVING a pharmacy than BEING a pharmacy. A lot of our pharmacies are more like convenience stores, so it's more accurate to think of as convenience stores as having pharmacies. If you go to a pharmacy strictly speaking (as in JUST a pharmacy), it isn't going to have anything but health related items, except maybe a small selection of candy. About health, I always say, "You can't outrun your fork".
In this country there is a direct correlation between poverty,and obesity. Eating healthy can be more expensive. The shops ( which are difficult to find in poorer neighborhoods) with the organic, gluten, and soy free foods , for example are more expensive even healthier choices for satisfying a craving for something sweet is more expensive. As poverty can be generational ,so to can obesity.
"Food desert" is a bullshit concept. The term implies that the problem is merely one of local scarcity, when really it's more to do with the inability of poor and under-educated people to make better choices. Putting a Whole Foods in a ghetto neighborhood isn't going to stimulate demand for kale and quinoa among people raised on McDonald's.
Yep, here in Atlanta there are several food deserts in the low-income areas and all the food those stores sell is boxed or canned and usually highly processed. Or there's fast food, which is an affordable option for many of these families, so they use it often in many cases. Good luck trying to find fresh fruit or veg or whatever. And even if they found healthy food, they'd have to learn to prepare/cook it. Jamie Oliver had this issue when he came over and tried to change the food in schools in Los Angeles, like he did in the UK, and failed miserably. He was up against A LOT of push-back: people not being able to cook, people not having access to healthy food in many neighborhoods, the food being pushed in stores and school being based on big name companies wanting to sell things (like stuff with corn -- especially High Fructose Corn Syrup WHICH IS IN ALMOST EVERYTHING -- and wheat, which is pushed really hard in this country -- see films like 'King Corn'), etc. Plus, our food pyramid, which is supposedly how we should eat healthy, is more based on foods that make the government money (grains) and not really on food that ACTUALLY makes us healthy. All those grains are getting many of us sick (I say this as a Type 2 Diabetic that had to give them up to lower my blood sugar) and it just keeps getting worse. It will be hard to fix the obesity epidemic in this country, especially when our government and food and drug systems are profiting from us being unhealthy. :(
Perhaps in your area of the US you have a direct correlation between poverty and obesity but in my area that isn't true. Most of the homeless people who I've had contact with--I've worked in non-profits that provide assistance for them--are more likely to be underweight than obese. Even the poor with housing have a pretty standard ratio. What delineates heavy from hearty is education, or mental disease here. Those people who never finished high school are more likely to be fat. People suffering from severe depression also have the added pounds. That's the trouble with having a country that covers half a continent! You'll never be able to make a blanket statement about us! LOL!

Even then to get out of your membership is a pain. I broke my foot badly and obviously couldn’t go but, they still needed a doctor note describing what and why I couldn’t continue to go. I had only 2 months left on the membership but, needed 3-4 months to safely heal to do a normal workout. I will never join a gym again because of that ordeal. I got more of a workout going to the doctor in a cast using crutches then to the gym to give them the note then home.
I usually love these videos and I don’t get “triggered” easily. But something about this one feels off. And a side note, the world is struggling with obesity rates. Not just the US. I watched your video about what you took to school growing up and it was very similar to what we have here. Lots of processed foods. It’s everywhere. Love this channel, but this video was in bad taste and the title was misleading.

The obesity is such a huge problem (no pun intended). It's due to the amount of processed foods, which are typically cheaper than health foods. It's more of an issue in poverty ridden areas. There is no proper health education... And don't get me started on sex Ed! Love you guys! 😘
Bottom line, obesity is a problem because most places we live are not pedestrian-friendly, and outside of a few cities, public transportation is awful. So we drive everywhere, which isn't healthy.

At 7:39-you have actually touched on a very sore point with the sale of cigarettes at pharmacies here in the US. You may not have noticed but CVS actually does not sell cigarettes for the very reason you stated. They decided at the corporate level in was hypocritical to have an entire store dedicated to promoting health and well-being and yet at the front sell those cancer sticks. So about two years ago they removed cigarettes from all stores. You are correct about Walgreens however. It is still possible to buy cigarettes there.
why not, we pay more per person for our meds than any other country. they have to make enough money to pay the bills. whats just as bad is the alcohol in this country.you cant go a single day without coming across a drunk driving around or some drunk walking into a gas station looking for a handout to buy more alcohol.

Sucralose, Maltose, Agave Nectar, Blackstrap Molasses, Carob Syrup, Demerara, Florida crystals, fruit juice concentrate, invert sugar, Panela, Muscovado, Sorghum, Sucanat, Treacle, Turbinado... Between Healthline.com and myself we've been able to identify 57 different names for sugar. It's hard to keep track. If you eat food that you didn't prepare from scratch, you are stuffing all that sugar into your body. As for obesity related diseases, scientists are finding that many of the diseases originally identified with obesity are, in fact, associated with excess sugar or excess fats. Actually the rate of obesity is growing faster in the UK than the US. The UK is sixth behind Mexico, US, New Zealand, Finland and Australia for Obesity.

I'm gagging at the description of European bacon! Here in America you can get thick bacon, but most people seem to prefer thin, CRISPY bacon. Also, American salads are ridiculous. Sure we have some nicer salads (like baby spinach with some roasted chicken, grapes, strawberries, and nuts, that's not so bad) but some of them are really more like a meal with some bits of green. Calling those a salad is honestly insulting to vegetables.

They aren't pharmacies, they are retail stores that happen to have pharmacies. Grocery stores have pharmacies too. They couldn't afford to stay open without the high margin and profits from the other merchandise.
I have watched a few of their video's and others trying to get a feel of the mind set of people from those countries. We must try to remember that they live in Socialist/Communist countries and are trained with the mindset that allows few choices. That is how the ruling class maintains control. If the people are made not to have a large choice They will fall in line with the slavery mind set the one percent wants them to have. Eventually they will not be allowed to wipe their own butts until a certain time of day. It is a sad thing to watch. But, it is their choice. Trying to explain to them that life is about choices is kind of futile, It would go against their socialist programing to exercise their minds on such a basic level as to make an informed choice from such a thing as selection.

Some "salads" canot be done without mayo: potato salad, chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, etc. There are also some dishes like pear salad ans pineapple salad that have the fruit on a bed of lettuce with a dollop of mayo in the center and a bot of cheese on top.

Mayo is used as the base of creamy salad dressings because it is made of egg yolk, oil and vinegar. The base along with other seasoning is what gives the salad - ‘cold dish of vegetables, dressing (usually seasoned with oil and vinegar) and sometimes meat or fish’ it’s unique tastes.
Miracle Whip is salad dressing and is quite good but it is found next to the mayo in the store.
Chicken "salad", potato "salad" etc have a mayo base and are called "salad" but a normal green salad won't have mayo. I'm in California and we have a lot of kale, arrugula, etc. The health-obsessed population here generally expects the dressing to be served on the side anyway. Low-carb/paleo/high-protein are all the rage right now.

No, no, no, no no. You can't just turn right on red. You have to stop first and if clear, then you can turn right on red. Also, cars are supposed to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk before turning right. There are a lot of drivers who do stupid things, so as a pedestrian never count on the fact a car will actually yield. Make sure your head isn't buried in a phone and you know what's happening around you.
KevlarX2 : key word here is "supposed" - in my daily experience, drivers are "supposed" to drive using sense ability, a respect for the laws of physics, regard for the traffic laws like not running red lights and staying in ones lane, a respect for life of others and an uncommon attribute known as courtesy and brains (don't leave home without them) .

Right on red simply means if you are turning right at a red light and no other cars are coming then you apply the rules as you would a yield sign. Stop, look both ways, if clear proceed with caution. It is meant to help with traffic congestion to reduce long waiting lines when the traffic may be clear. Oh, and if you step out into traffic unaware of your surroundings, remember, cars/trucks/vans/motorcycles/SUV’s are bigger, stronger and faster than you are. Err on the side of caution and obey the laws of the road.
Regardless, you *CAN TURN RIGHT ON RED* in the U.S. In Germany (and I assume the UK), all lanes have to stop at a red light and wait until it turns green, even if they want to turn right. Even if they are turning off a one-way street onto another one-way street. Seems overly cautious to my American sensibilities.

Mayo = is not just mayonnaise but any thick opaque slurry containing oil and vinegar or lemon juice. And weirdly enough SUGAR. A proper salad doesn't need those generous slatherings of gooey stuff called 'dressing'. Many salads are not 'dressed' but 'coated'.
Salads, believe or not, vary in the US depending on which part of the country you're visiting. California does amazing healthy salads and dressings, the veg is often picked fresh that morning-farm to fork.
There are VERY few places in California where salads are picked that morning. You'd literally have to be within a few miles of a farm to do that and even then... Over 90% of salads in California are picked just like salads everywhere, by large corporate farms. Anyway, there are plenty of places around the country where you can get very fresh salads, when in season. NYC is full of salad chains and bodegas which all sell fantastic, fresh, and healthy salads. These two didn't bother looking for them, which is fine, but they're coming out of the gates like they know everything, which they just do not and that is not fine.
LOL I'm lucky - I do live in an area of CA where my salad is delivered to my door within hours of being picked. My kids' schools all have fresh salad bars as part of school lunch too.
George, granted you have to be selective on where you choose to eat, but where I live in Sacramento farm-to-fork it is quite common. In fact, the city markets itself as the farm-to-fork capital. There are farmer's markets every day of the week here where you buy straight off the farmer's truck. I run into my favorite chefs all the time. Also, many restaurants in Sacramento, the Napa Valley, and the SF Bay Area have their own gardens from which they pick. I'm a vegetarian and have traveled quite a bit in this country, and no, not all states are the same. Perhaps you don't know Northern California well.
CA is very health-oriented. I've never seen cigarettes in a CVS but that might be because we just don't go there very often. And salads in CA are very healthy, as far as I've seen - it really depends on where you're going to get your salads (eg, Burger King or Wendy's aren't going to have great salads) and what state you're in (eg Southern states love ranch and really fatty dressings which I've never understood but it's what they like). It varies SO so much depending on where you are, it's hard to make a blanket statement like "America's salads across the board are unhealthy".

We don't walk enough. We drive everywhere. Most do not exercise. We WAY oversize everything at restaurants. Sadly, it is our culture, which is slowly changing as we see it is an epidemic. I have to constantly read labels and I do exercise but most is in diet. Sure, I like to indulge occasionally but what I consider a treat, is most of American's daily/weekly diet. It is not easy to be active and healthy in most of this country!

You don't understand how hot it gets in North America in the summer and how bitterly cold it gets in the winter. Without AC people die from the heat. It is serious business, maybe you're not used to it, but it's a necessity here. When it's over 100 degrees (37 C) and the humidity is around 80%, good luck walking 1/2 block without collapsing.

@Sue Nuckles. I've lived in the tropics for most of the time since the early 1990's, in Africa, Australia and Asia. Predominantly without airconditioning, like most people in tropical climates.
Topical climates are typically very moderate though. Yes, high humidity, but usually not too hot or too cold. I didn't have AC when I lived in the tropical Brisbane, Australia, but you bet your ass it's necessary here in Texas!
Airconditioning is a recent thing. Native Americans survived without it for millennia.

So sorry about your American experience with salad. The salad differs from restaurant to restaurant. It can be utterly delicious and nutritious or down right unhealthy and may/may not taste good. It all depends on what place that you go to. So don't judge us on your one experience. It is as different as people are different.
This. Fast food places are the ones who usually load theirs with calories. Not sure if Salad Station is a local place, but we have a couple here where you make your own salad and they weigh it. You can potentially have an unhealthy salad or a healthy one.
You can always use vinaigrette dressing or Italian.
Personally, I don't use dressing on my salad. For me, a salad will have Romain, some red cabbage, some shredded or sliced carrots for a touch of sweetness, and that's pretty much it.

This is so true they try to make it seem like America is complete shit but I’ve lived there for 3 years and absolutely hated it. The only reason I stayed was for my girlfriend because her parents lived there. I will NEVEr go back. And if America is such shit to them then why not they leave??
The obesity in the US was set in stone since ww2, when they made the American diet to fatten up the really underweight soldiers. They teach in schools and parents teach their kids and give it a few generations with all the technology to make things easier and you made your very own plan of obesity. They didn’t even change the food pyramid til 04 and even then it’s outdated. The pyramid was made to put fat on the skin and boned 16-18 year olds. It had intake a diet of about 6-11 servings of carbs daily that’s insane.

You do realize that over 40 UK's can fit into the United States, right? It is a vast, vast country. It seems that you have not quite grasped that fact. Maybe salads are subpar in the cheap restaurants you frequented during your stay but is in no way indicative of the US country as a whole. The same for obesity. Why is there an obesity problem in Britain? Maybe you should explore that one. I suppose your opinions are entertaining in their naivete, but I for one find the US bashing tiresome. I have lived in Europe and can say that I quickly became tired of the unsolicited negative opinions about the US from Europeans that visited the US once or twice or never. European countries are so tiny- Europeans have no concept of how large and diverse the United States is; so making blanket statements about anything here really doesn't apply to the reality of the situation. Well it is and it isn't. NYC is so very different from Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Buffalo, Omaha, Memphis, Los Angles, Seattle, Boston, get the idea? It is part of the US but to say it truly represents the entire US is a bit of a stretch at best. As for pharmacies selling everything from cigarettes to health supplies, the American Westward Movement was partly made possible by the concept of the "General Store" which carried everything a frontier family would need and became engrained in American culture. Every little isolated American town that had a general stores and to a certain degree are still practical due the mere size and distances in this country, there is not a "shop on every corner in a vast majority of the US. As far cigarette petitions, your willingness to regulate what people buy and where they buy it is a "triggering" concept to Americans who see this as an infringement on our freedoms. You might be willing to give your freedoms away, we are not. We hate regulation. I don't smoke, but I'll be damned if I tell someone where they can and cannot buy a legal product. I, for one, am very happy to live in the US where we are moving toward making most substances legal (ie, Canada already *just* legalized marijuana. We already have medical cannibis but why not legalize it all? FWIW, I never even used it but it has a purpose). So many things are illegal in the UK. Even kratom and kava are illegal and these are herbal substances. We buy with caution. I never used kratom but I love my Gaia Kava capsules that I get from Vitacost in the US! To be fair, American pharmacies aren't really 'pharmacies.' It's really a store with a pharmacy inside. It's a separate section of the store. We don't have places just for meds bc the store would be small, a waste of space, and u can't compete with pharmacies in stores.
Sarah Kupka my girlfriend actually works in a flat out pharmacy. It's quite small, but it has a very personalized touch to it. In the hoity toity regions of Florida, you can get away with charging more in a place like that, because of the individualized attention.

In my town we have two small flat out pharmacies. The town I live in is very small so we don’t have a CVS or a Walgreens etc. so we have to get our meds from the small pharmacies or drive and hour away to one of the chains.
CVS and Walgreens are best described as convenient stores that have pharmacies. The entire store isn't a pharmacy. The actual pharmacy is usually tucked to the side or back of the store.

Visit the down-to-earth people of Missouri or a restaurant in New Orleans. Go visit the House on the Rock in Wisconsin or hike the boundary waters of Minnesota. Visit a dude ranch in Texas or hike the Appalachian Trail. Walk the Hoover Dam and boat down the Mississippi.

BVSchaefer I could not LOVE this comment more. I think if they had an actual true inkling of America and what it means to have true diversity in regional cultures. I had s man from the UK come into my work and I made a joke about why he would come here from England. His response was the he had seen much of the country and had to admit that it was the most beautiful country he had ever been to in terms of diversity. Not just in people and cultures but in scenery. He said it was the only place he had been to where you could have mountains and deserts and beaches and canyons. Made me appreciate my own country in a way I had not before and it took a Brit to make me see it. They are not all so boorish.

Your response is one of thought and maturity. Most of these people are extremely harsh right now. Americans go to other countries and make videos and get the same backlash. It's not like anyone's saying any country or nation is a dirty cesspool of degradation. They're all taking a tiny wedge of experience and making it broad to fit the whole nation. 10:25 there are number of reasons for America's obesity epidemic, Central among them is our lifestyle here, which tends to be more work oriented than other countries. So trying to maintain a work-life balance, eat right, and keep up a gym membership when you're working at least 40 hours per week whatever your schedule happens to be, is quite challenging. You have to have a sort of dedication to it that is not as common as people would hope. Me for example, I work 40 hours a week and have over an hour commute each way, which means roughly 11 hours out of each day is engaged with work. Combine this with my family obligations, and visiting a gym becomes a luxury. I do however go to the gym at least 3 times a week, however because of my schedule I have to arrive at the gym at 4:30 a.m. luckily I belong to a gym that is actually 24 hours which is probably another thing that US gyms do better than Europe. By the way the above are not excuses, they're reasons. There are no Solutions in life, there are only trade-offs.

And I find a workday in the US much more stressful than in Germany. We’re no slackers, we work hard too, but it’s not as mentally challenging, imo.

Guys, the reason they said that our salads are covered in mayonnaise is because ranch dressing and blue cheese dressing are both mayonnaise-based dressings that have lots of mayonnaise in them. They're right about that. There are also some other mayonnaise-based dressing. A lot of honey mustard dressings have a great deal of mayonnaise in them. Obviously all of these dressings have other ingredients as well. I made ranch dressing from scratch once and was stunned that it was primarily buttermilk, sour cream and mayonnaise that I flavored with herbs and spices. It was delicious, the best that I've ever eaten. After seeing what it was made of I cut back on the ranch dressing.
I love you guys and your observations. However, you do seem to have narrow scope of the culture. I see you buying and eating SO MUCH JUNK! Not everyone eats all that crap even if it is available. Not everyone eats at fast food places. I haven't watched all your shows, but I think it's that your eyes are drawn to the stuff that seems different and crazy and indulgent and that fits with your preconceived ideas of America through film, television and social media. 6:50 well the pharmacy is actually in that store, usually in the back, the rest of the store sells other things. It should be noted that CVS does not sell cigarettes. They stopped several years ago.

In Europe it depends on the region as well. In Central Europe a lot of the vegetables and fuits that need a lot of heat and sunlight are produced in green houses.
The taste is ok, but not great.
If you go to Southern Europe especially Greece and Balkans, you can buy cheap, very fresh and locally produced vegetables everywhere and they taste amazing.

Obesity is a problem in the USA because too many people eat fast food and prepackaged foods that are filled with fats, sugars, salt and stuff. When I was a kid, if I said I was thirsty, they gave me Kool-Ade instead of water, filled my plate too full, and told me I had to eat it all, because kids were starving in Africa, then rewarded you for eating too much, but adding dessert to the mix. And I rarely saw a veg that didn't come from a can. It was not my family that introduced me to salad.

I think it’s down to how you were raised my siblings and cousins and me would get locked out side pretty much till dinner was done and if we said we were thirsty we got told to drink out of the water hose 😂 we were constantly out side we got sweet tea and water but we very very rarely got dessert most the time we didn’t even eat any if we did because we were full of food we also had to try everything once with no fuss if you did you got in trouble for making a fuss over it most of us though would eat what ever was in front of us so really it’s how you were brought up at least from my point of view

Cigarettes at Pharmacies: We put personal freedom at the highest value. None of us would expect, nor want, Walgreens to tell us not to smoke or eat unhealthy if that's what we want to do. I didn't really find any of it offensive (as an American). Someone being wrong about something they have no/little personal experience isn't offensive to me. These are fairly off the cuff videos, like a conversation you'd have with a friend, instead of an expert educating you on a topic. It's just a style choice, and not one that everyone enjoys.

I think there is a difference between political correctness and being polite and civil, personally. Of course, there are SOME words or phrases that ARE insulting, but I think it really depends more on the CONTEXT and the TONE of what is being said rather than the actual words. I don't think Joel and Lia are TRYING to insult people, they are just calling it how they see it without butchering or mincing words to skirt an issue that needs addressing. Words are made for a reason- and each one has a specific meaning. Why try to use another word (or set of words) when a certain one will do, even if it's not as flattering?
A. Here is an example of being polite and civil: Hey, have you met Jane? She's the short girl over there with the blue dress. You should meet her- she's so totally into the same things as you!
B. Here is an example of political correctness: Hey, have you met Jane? They're the vertically impaired person over there with the blue dress....
C. Here is an example of being just plain insulting: Hey, have you met Jane? She's such a midget but she can't help it.... her whole family is short anyway... She's over there in that blue dress- even though she's so short, you might like her anyway because you have so much in common!
That being said, I think that people DO need to grow a set and have thicker skin. People don't always say things with the intention of insulting anyone, and for people to be so easily offended and insulted really is getting tiring. If you don't like something someone said, you can say hey that wasn't cool, I found it insulting because xyz, do you mind changing your language next time. Or you can brush it off and chalk it up to ignorance or innocence or just who the person is, and not let it bother you. It's these PC Warriors who go and shout it from the rooftops about what people should be offended by that kill me.... why should I be offended by something YOU are offended by? While I agree with Kevin, I also agreed with your first statement about politeness. It's sad that politeness is such a bad word nowadays. The only problem with what you said about "insults" is that people are so thin-skinned nowadays, that almost anything is umbrella-covered by the concept "everything is an insult!"
However, I think you backpedaled when you said "in our opinion." That's a politically correct catch phrase. Think about it, why would someone state someone else's opinion??? Thereby the phrase is a redundant statement. It's cliché. It's people walking on eggshells, afraid to be straightforward and succinct, without any preamble.

We love our AC because for the most part, when it gets hot here, especially down south, it's miserable.
I'm in Central New York and we actually get comparable heat. Granted, it's for a severely limited time of the year (aka July, August, and the first two weeks of September), but when it happens it's still pretty bad. (Meanwhile we get all four seasons at any given time of the week for the rest of the year). XD
And another thing about heat is we've got humid heat, like what you and I experience, and then dry heat, which is what I experienced when I went to Vegas - god now that's fucking awful. That sort of heat slams you in the face when you least expect it. At least with humid heat you feel it the second you step outside and can brace yourself accordingly.
I'm sorry but I'm American, California girl here and who on Earth puts mayonnaise on their salads?! Lol.. I've never seen that before or even heard about that! We do make very good, great healthy salads and there are actually healthy salad dressing that aren't all cream or mayo, and believe it or not, the pieces of chicken that are in some salads are not marinated in thick sugary sauces! What place did you see that at?! I have a fruit salad I prepare in my own home, no side cream or no sugar added. I also have been to many restaurants while traveling or around my town that I always choose healthy foods to eat including salads. There are many varieties of salad dressing to choose from and that's up to someone to want to buy it or not. Trust me, we Americans do eat really good healthy salads and don't put all that unhealthy crap in it like you think. We love tomatoes, in our salads too, and other raw vegetables also!

It is more helpful to think of Walgreens as HAVING a pharmacy than BEING a pharmacy. A lot of our pharmacies are more like convenience stores, so it's more accurate to think of as convenience stores as having pharmacies. If you go to a pharmacy strictly speaking (as in JUST a pharmacy), it isn't going to have anything but health related items, except maybe a small selection of candy. About health, I always say, "You can't outrun your fork".
In this country there is a direct correlation between poverty,and obesity. Eating healthy can be more expensive. The shops ( which are difficult to find in poorer neighborhoods) with the organic, gluten, and soy free foods , for example are more expensive even healthier choices for satisfying a craving for something sweet is more expensive. As poverty can be generational ,so to can obesity.

The term implies that the problem is merely one of local scarcity, when really it's more to do with the inability of poor and under-educated people to make better choices. Yep, here in Atlanta there are several food deserts in the low-income areas and all the food those stores sell is boxed or canned and usually highly processed. Or there's fast food, which is an affordable option for many of these families, so they use it often in many cases. Good luck trying to find fresh fruit or veg or whatever. And even if they found healthy food, they'd have to learn to prepare/cook it. Jamie Oliver had this issue when he came over and tried to change the food in schools in Los Angeles, like he did in the UK, and failed miserably. He was up against A LOT of push-back: people not being able to cook, people not having access to healthy food in many neighborhoods, the food being pushed in stores and school being based on big name companies wanting to sell things (like stuff with corn -- especially High Fructose Corn Syrup WHICH IS IN ALMOST EVERYTHING -- and wheat, which is pushed really hard in this country -- see films like 'King Corn'), etc. Plus, our food pyramid, which is supposedly how we should eat healthy, is more based on foods that make the government money (grains) and not really on food that ACTUALLY makes us healthy. All those grains are getting many of us sick (I say this as a Type 2 Diabetic that had to give them up to lower my blood sugar) and it just keeps getting worse. It will be hard to fix the obesity epidemic in this country, especially when our government and food and drug systems are profiting from us being unhealthy. :(
Perhaps in your area of the US you have a direct correlation between poverty and obesity but in my area that isn't true. Most of the homeless people who I've had contact with--I've worked in non-profits that provide assistance for them--are more likely to be underweight than obese. Even the poor with housing have a pretty standard ratio. What delineates heavy from hearty is education, or mental disease here. Those people who never finished high school are more likely to be fat. People suffering from severe depression also have the added pounds.
That's the trouble with having a country that covers half a continent! You'll never be able to make a blanket statement about us! LOL!

The business model for most gyms is based on people not going. If the gyms are cheap, then that means there are a ton of members who just don't go.
Even then to get out of your membership is a pain. I broke my foot badly and obviously couldn’t go but, they still needed a doctor note describing what and why I couldn’t continue to go. I had only 2 months left on the membership but, needed 3-4 months to safely heal to do a normal workout. I will never join a gym again because of that ordeal. I got more of a workout going to the doctor in a cast using crutches then to the gym to give them the note then home.
I have never been outside of the United States in my 47 years on Earth. I imagine it is dark and scary outside of this country.

I usually love these videos and I don’t get “triggered” easily. But something about this one feels off. And a side note, the world is struggling with obesity rates. Not just the US. I watched your video about what you took to school growing up and it was very similar to what we have here. Lots of processed foods. It’s everywhere. Love this channel, but this video was in bad taste and the title was misleading.

At 7:39-you have actually touched on a very sore point with the sale of cigarettes at pharmacies here in the US. You may not have noticed but CVS actually does not sell cigarettes for the very reason you stated. They decided at the corporate level in was hypocritical to have an entire store dedicated to promoting health and well-being and yet at the front sell those cancer sticks. So about two years ago they removed cigarettes from all stores. You are correct about Walgreens however. It is still possible to buy cigarettes there.

It isn't the sugar in the drinks and snacks that causes the obesity in the US. It's the sugar in the canned goods and the boxes of food like cereal. Have you ever read the ingredients on a cereal box? Wow! It's the way the companies tweak the name of sugar to make it sound like something else so you won't know you're eating it! Sucralose, Maltose, Agave Nectar, Blackstrap Molasses, Carob Syrup, Demerara, Florida crystals, fruit juice concentrate, invert sugar, Panela, Muscovado, Sorghum, Sucanat, Treacle, Turbinado... Between Healthline.com and myself we've been able to identify 57 different names for sugar. It's hard to keep track. If you eat food that you didn't prepare from scratch, you are stuffing all that sugar into your body.
As for obesity related diseases, scientists are finding that many of the diseases originally identified with obesity are, in fact, associated with excess sugar or excess fats. Our culture packs sugar into our bodies in such quantities that diabetes, for instance, is no longer in the realm of the obese.

I'm gagging at the description of European bacon! Here in America you can get thick bacon, but most people seem to prefer thin, CRISPY bacon.
Also, American salads are ridiculous. Sure we have some nicer salads (like baby spinach with some roasted chicken, grapes, strawberries, and nuts, that's not so bad) but some of them are really more like a meal with some bits of green. Calling those a salad is honestly insulting to vegetables.
