Super sorry for missing that as it is a very competitive option (and a fun detail at the least). And luckily, the point at which the manipless WR could do this is around 1:33 which is less than 52 seconds before my umbreon run. Thus, umbreon should still be the winner, but not by too much! Sorry again for missing this detail though!😅
It was so funny watching the 13 minute deep dive breakdown into optimizing the route in Crystal fully knowing that the next Dark type was just "It's on the first route lmao"
In my case, I was looking at the marks for the different sections when I started the video and noticed that gen 2 was crazy long compared to the others.
Maybe we could amend the rules by actually having to catch the Pokemon, rather than starting with it? Though the unbeatable 0-second run is definitely funnier :p
In Scarlet and Violet, you can get an Houndour in a simpler way. It's rare though. There's a tree near the cutscene trigger where a wild pokemon can often be found asleep. It can be a Houndour. It can also be a few other Pokemon and, in my experience, it often is. Depending on RNG, it can be way easier.
Well put. I love all the different paths being so thoroughly explored, often ones I could not even have considered. Pokémon games just keep on giving, with talented people finding ever more ways to explore its depths with novel content. Shoutout to EnterTheUnown as well, another favourite content creator of mine.
I'm like 90% sure evolving gift Eevee into Umbreon is the only way to get a dark type without going to kanto. I evolved mine by riding a bike for something crazy like 2 hours or more of biking
Despite introducing 6 dark types, not a single one was catchable before post-game, with Umbreon as the only option. And even then the others are either at a very low level or in Mt. Silver, which is basically post post-game. Gen 2 really was flawed
@@solidzackNot to mention the ONLY new ghost type, which was not used by the ghost gym leader and was only found in one room on Mt. Silver with an abysmally low encounter rate. Misdreavus essentially didn’t exist, as far as Gen 2 was concerned.
Gen 2 was really excited to show off the friendship evos and new eeveelutions. Being given eevee fairly early and then having the stones being hard to get, was intentionally to make players get espeon or umbreon in the game.
So there's one big thing you've missed for gen 2. While Umbreon being the only dark type available in johto is true for gold and silver, its not for crystal where Sneasle can be found in Ice Path with a 1% on B1, 5% on B2, and 10% on B3. This feels like it would make it the betfer choice for gen 2.
Always happy to see one of these. Crazy how much of the video is just Johto. Another fun video could be the fastest you can evolve a Pokémon with an evolution item in each game. Because there are two parts to it - how quickly can you get the evolution item and how quickly can you obtain the Pokémon to evolve.
Thanks a ton, means a lot to hear! :) That is a really great idea and fantastic point too! I haven't gotten to explore any specific evolution video ideas deeply yet, but I could see this one being very interesting, added to the list for sure! ;D
That game corner part came out of nowhere and gave me physical backlash. Thank God it wasn't a nightmare this time lol. Also, I'm so happy Scraggy got featured here! It and Scrafty are some of my favourite pokemon ever! Oh, and great video as always. Never noticed how quick you could get a Dark type in most games. You'd think they wouldn't put the literal "Evil" type (in the original language) as one of the first pokemons a 10 year old could catch lol
LOL I hoped you would like that part! Here is a little bonus fact: I was just as blindsided by the abra. I wrote it off early on as I didn't realize traveling would be a key factor for the final route. Thus, I completely did a fly route as seen in the video and then had route and test the abra route after to learn it was indeed faster. XD Totally agree on Scrafty, they are great! And extra behind the scence, the gen 6 section was also a surprise to me as I forgot that honey forced a the horde encounter as well! Thanks as always Gordon, always glad to hear you enjoyed and really appreciate the support! :)
@semaJCh for the Abra fact, I'd say that was your subconscious trying to make you avoid the game corner. It probably never wants to set foot in there ever again lol.
@@semaJCh There's also the option of skipping the Honey and using Sweet Scent for the job. I think the change to the Haircut Brothers is fascinating - the original odds imply that while the older brother is indeed more experienced and more consistent with his work, the younger had a more significant boost to friendship, which implied either that the younger brother was trendier keeping up with cool looks, or that he's a hairstyling savant of sorts. The remakes completely eschew this in favor of older brother > younger brother - it misses a note of humanistic nuance the originals had.
i remember when i had my first friendship evolution. i didn't know friendship was a mechanic, was playing leaf green, and didn't know chansey could evolve. i was just walking around celedon city when i suddenly got a "oh?" text and chancey evolved
Super happy this got recommended to me, I am enjoying going through all these videos so much:) if you take recommendations it would be cool to see how fast you can catch a pseudo-legendary, since they are limited but well known and also in all(?) gens, it would probably have some overlap with the dragon video but still!
Really happy to hear you are enjoying, thanks for the support! :) No worries, I love getting feedback on what people might want to see next. And although I haven't gotten to start planning apseudo video yet, I have gotten a good number of requests and am excited to look into it!
I need one of these guides but for Psychic types, except for Platinum. Platinum is the best in this regard. Just pick chimchar, level up to get taunt, find an abra, taunt it, spam pokeballs.and done.
I think Pearl has a very interesting challenge. Since Stunky AND Murkrow are both Diamond exclusives, I believe the two earliest Dark-types are either tweaking out of bounds for Darkrai or meeting 32 trainers underground for Spiritomb.
1:50 Beside regional variants, which did add some forms of the Dark types to the Kanto roster. 31:31 At least you didn't have to evolve Samurott. Also damn, if I knew you can find these without Basculegion so early on, I would have used Overqwil in my playthrough.
Scarlet and Violet can be a lot faster, not only is there a single spot where Houndour can spawn on Poco Path (very rarely, I've seen it happen once, and I've played through that part at least 64 times) but it's possible to have a wild Pokemon run into you while really close to the cliff and bump you up to the ledge you come out of after the Houndoom cutscene before the cutscene where you meet -raidon, and they don't block the cave off until after you've done the Houndoom cutscene and the Houndour spawns are normal near the top of the cave.
Regarding Scarlet & Violet; there is a tree on Poco Path across from the cliff cutscene trigger where a Houndour can spawn. This is likely due to a coding error, but if you're lucky you can get your dark type a little quicker
Although it was added early in the franchise, right on the 2nd generation, it is actually one of the last types to be added, tied in 4th latest with the steel and ??? types, only bellow shadow type (Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness), fairy type and the recently added stellar type, in that respective order
Fun fact, for Scarlett and Violet, you can actually catch a houndour on the first route (it’s a really low chance, but in the current Nuzlocke I’m doing I managed to catch one on the first route. I didn’t even know they could appear there until I saw harvest sleeping either)
I’m not kidding around either, I’m looking at his summary status right now on memories and the location listed is Poco path. They can spawn there it’s just extremely rare.
1:30 Hold up, is that how you pronounce it? I've been saying "Sema J" this entire time :v That aside, the absolute madness of routing Gen 2 is why I love these videos. It feels like a simple answer at first - even I thought to evolve Eevee into Umbreon - but then the logistics of how you do that becomes the real challenge.
LOL I think that's a good way to say it as well! It truly was just meant to be James backwards when I choose it, but I do like that idea too! Thanks so much for the support though and it means a ton to hear people enjoy them! I totally agree about Umbreon too, it became extremely overwhelming for a time but in the end was fun to see all the methods and how they compared. :)
Woo, eevee makes two of the options, and was in consideration for a third. Not bad, considering only two of the challenges before now, not counting the eeveelution video itself, had them even as possible (Ice and Fairy)... still waiting for a dragon eevee though, it's the last pre-split special without an eeveelution (fairy doesn't count, there was 9 physical and 8 special before the split, *and* the type is basically all special attacks anyway, so it'd've likely been a special type in a pre-split world).
once u finish getting all the types in every game you should try to speedrun getting one of every type in every game could be a fun redo of these challenges where you’re going for multiple poks at the same time (although i wonder how much of that would just turn into farming eevees and training them alongside a starter lol)
There's actually an even faster way to catch a houndour in sc/vi because if you stay up the hill on the outside of the cave near a tree sometimes houndour spawns in the grass where it's technically not supposed to be, or in the wall where you can still start a battle with it. Usually only takes me about 10 minutes.
In violet, I've gotten a houndour to spawn to spawn in left path from where nemona asks if you've heard the legendary's cry all the way back there is a sleeping houndour that can spawn but it's not guaranteed spawn.
"Being one of the first types added to the series" grass, fire, water, bird (later changed to flying), bug, rock, ground, electric, fighting, ice, psychic, ghost, normal, poison, and dragon types: 👀👀👀 Anyway, it's one of the last types introduced, not first. Just because it comes so early doesn't make it earlier than the other ones.
Something cool about the Sneasel in Gen2 is that your rival has one to tease you throughout the second half of Johto region. How did he get that? Same guy you gives a Shuckle 😆
There's a problem with Gen 2. Pokémon Crystal has different locations for some Pokémon... and one of them is Sneasel. Sneasel is available in Ice Cavern, but only in Pokémon Crystal. The Ice Cavern is also available once you get 7 badges. Did you check if that was faster ?

i remember when i had my first friendship evolution. i didn't know friendship was a mechanic, was playing leaf green, and didn't know chansey could evolve. i was just walking around celedon city when i suddenly got a "oh?" text and chancey evolved
Super happy this got recommended to me, I am enjoying going through all these videos so much:)
if you take recommendations it would be cool to see how fast you can catch a pseudo-legendary, since they are limited but well known and also in all(?) gens, it would probably have some overlap with the dragon video but still!
Really happy to hear you are enjoying, thanks for the support! :)
No worries, I love getting feedback on what people might want to see next.
This was great. And I though transferring Greninja to Sun and Moon was fast enough.😢
This is likely due to a coding error, but if you're lucky you can get your dark type a little quicker
i was *not* expecting GBA yugioh game music. that's sick!!
Shout-out to absol my favorite dark type and favorite Mon of all time!
Lol of course GSC & HGSS make the challenge much more difficult.
sound the alarm it's my favorite youtuber dropping another BANGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ✨✨
PLZ! Thanks a ton for the support, hope you enjoy!!!
20:01 that GBA Yugioh music... Nostalgia
i was fully expecting the video to keep going with Umbreon strategies i kind of forgot what i was here for 😂
You can actually get houndour before heading into the grotto the first time in sv, there’s two trees it can spawn under, though it’s pretty rare
1:30 Hold up, is that how you pronounce it? I've been saying "Sema J" this entire time :v
That aside, the absolute madness of routing Gen 2 is why I love these videos.
As soon as i learnt you can get a Zorua so early in Ultra Sun, i had to use it, and thank god i did, because Zoroark saved my ass against Necrozma.
This was such a joy to wake up to
Means a lot, hope you enjoy!!
Can never have too many Umbreons. Best kitty and my all time fav mon of my all time fav type.
Dang, gen 2 was like pulling teeth in the beginning.
once u finish getting all the types in every game you should try to speedrun getting one of every type in every game could be a fun redo of these challenges where you’re going for multiple poks at the same time (although i wonder how much of that would just turn into farming eevees and training them alongside a starter lol)
The umbreon Part could have easlisy been a standalone Video 😂
0:03 Dark is actually the 3rd newest type
I'm a simple man.
I see a Scraggy in Thumbnail, I click.
I bought enough Scraggy plushies to jack the prices up almost 400%
Gen 2: GOING IN DEPTH TO FIND THE OPTIMAL ROUTE TO EVOLVE EEVEE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE
Gen 3: dog
Zen market gonna help a lot if I want all these dang bonuses on amazing Yamaguchi figures
In violet, I've gotten a houndour to spawn to spawn in left path from where nemona asks if you've heard the legendary's cry all the way back there is a sleeping houndour that can spawn but it's not guaranteed spawn.
I hev a live dance performance in front of my entire school staff so no time for this, when i get back tho ! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🎃
Happy Halloween!
I get everyone says this of their fav type but make steel type next please
"Being one of the first types added to the series"
grass, fire, water, bird (later changed to flying), bug, rock, ground, electric, fighting, ice, psychic, ghost, normal, poison, and dragon types: 👀👀👀
Anyway, it's one of the last types introduced, not first. Just because it comes so early doesn't make it earlier than the other ones.
Umbreon finally having the redemption arc from the Eeveelution video.
One of my fave parts about this video for sure! ;D
Steel type next please
why did i watch this...
good video i guess lol, it clearly grabbed my attention despite the fact that I haven't played in years
I still think it would be interesting to see how fast the catch a pre-evolution pokémon in every game
Why did I think this was going to be the highest speed stat you can reach with a dark type in each game
8:40 how is this ironic?
Something cool about the Sneasel in Gen2 is that your rival has one to tease you throughout the second half of Johto region. How did he get that? Same guy you gives a Shuckle 😆
Rip kanto
Just throw your evee at rocks and trees until it loves you 😂
It’s been so long. Love ur vids
Thanks for the support!
I’m surprised violet and legends arceus did as well as they did. Usually they tend to be slower in pretty much every way
yeah didn't expect almost half the video to be a rabbit hole of umbreon in pokemon crystal. apart from that good video
I Absolutely Love This Series, Keep Up The Amazing Work
Thanks a ton, really means a lot!!!!
You can get a dark type in gen 1, mega Gyarados in let's go
about gen 2, did they fixed the "spam potion at full health" glitch o get happiness or it wasn't counted for the challenge?
Pokémon sun and Moon actually ranking high is hilarious
Can the next type be ground please
There's a problem with Gen 2. Pokémon Crystal has different locations for some Pokémon... and one of them is Sneasel. Sneasel is available in Ice Cavern, but only in Pokémon Crystal.
The Ice Cavern is also available once you get 7 badges.
Did you check if that was faster ?
