If I may presume to speak for the Tally Ho fans, thank you so much for all the videos on the capstan. Congratulations on the succesful completion. I'm looking forward to the upcoming videos.
Every mold that didn't hold up was obviously equally important in reaching the last one. So, no milking, just steps in the proces. Thank you, and all that contributed, for that!👴👌😊
Back in the day there were probably a few failures before they got the whole process right and repeatable. Even then there would be the occasional failure. So don't listen to those that say you are milking it, just sling their comments in the bin and leave them in the trash where they belong. All the best Clarke, see you around (and maybe in person if ever I get to your corner of the USA).
Sweet! Glad to hear you guys were successful! The vid of the first attempt was so far beyond the complexity I would have ever imagined. But, in the end, it all made sense, understood all the steps and most importantly, appreciated you sharing the fail. That was really technical. Best to all your guys and hope they know all the Tally Ho folks really appreciate it because it's all important. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills.
I appreciate that you show some of the problems and mistakes. A lot of videos on the internet seem perfect. No mistakes or problems. While they might be entertaining to some people they aren’t really very informative. Overcoming problems is where the real learning starts. Keep up the good work !
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing the capstan pour and then to seeing the real thing on Tally Ho's deck right here in my town, Port Townsend!
Dabbling at casting bronze bits for my sailboats I have had to re-melt and re-pour more than a few. Thanks for showing the ups and downs of the process, I don't think most people have a good sense of appreciation for just how much "backstory" there is to producing a good pour.
Amazing skills and devotion to ensuring people have the chance to see what a complex job casting is. As you stated re casting is common until perfection. Really appreciate what you do. Thank you
I am glad the Tally Ho project led to me finding and enjoying your channel and watch you awesome work with casting. I look forward to drinking as much milk you can produce documenting your craft on the next videos. Thanks for sharing!
Long-standing Tally Ho viewer and supporter here. I can’t tell you how much your videos (along with everyone else who has spent more time than they anticipated on that capstan) have given an appreciation of your profession and craft-and patience! “If at first you don’t succeed” seems to be a theme. Thank you so much for your contribution to Tally Ho. The capstan will be the subject of much discussion and admiration by many by virtue of your experience, skill, and hard work. With much respect to you.
The Liberty Bell was cast three times also. Sounds (unintended pun) like casting is more of an art than a science. But more comparison to the Bell as it was originally cast in England, as was the capstan. Now recast (several times) again in America.
I always wanted to tour White Chapel Foundry but unfortunately after 400 plus years, they closed the doors a few years ago. Yes, the Liberty Bell along with Big Ben were both cast there. Big Ben also cracked by the way😁
You sure are an interesting, articulate, likable, level headed guy. I could listen to you explain all day how paint dries. I came to you through Leo and I’m subbed and stayin’. See ya later.
Good to see you, Clarke! Thanks for the update! I'm sure glad that you are giving yourself some room, this weekend, and I hope that you will be able to, maybe, just maybe, catch your breath a bit. Easy does it! We'll catch you on the flip flop! 🙂👍
Don't sweat any of these comments man, the silent majority knows how much work it is to build anything of quality. And then add the difficulty of filming everything? Forget about it lol.
Thank you from Canada for putting other IMPORTANT projects on the slow burn so you and your team could get the Tally Ho project complete to your satisfaction
Glad to hear you got a good casting. Some jobs are like that. Just looked up where the Tally Ho is being rebuilt. It's about a weekend trip for me. I'm going to have to go take a look.
Super happy that last flask was your winner. I pour heavier pure silver and sure know all about a failed closed pour. When we can see why it failed it is a great bit of satisfaction. I am awaiting a decision from Leo to get me the pattern I need to make a couple 10 ounce medallions for Tally Ho. I am really excited to do them for him. Now we/I exercise that patience thing you know all so well. I am really enjoying the work you are doing here. There is magic hiding there. School every time I sit at my bench.
Clark, all of your hard work is very appreciated from this big Tally Ho fan, Since my grandfather was also a pattern maker for the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady NY plus the General Electric Company I can really appreciate the kind of effort and talent which went into the Capstan project. It’s so sad and totally uncalled for seeing someone putting negative comments regarding the carefully crafted workmanship you’ve been doing and it’s so obvious these comments are being made by sidewalk superintendents who’ve absolutely NEVER worked with their own hands before or made any attempt to perform work which required any level of skill. Thanks again for being such an outstanding “mechanic” as my grandfather called a pattern maker or his foundry men !
I've deeply enjoyed these videos! I know it's not as easy as a lot of folks might think it is. Y'all are awesome for greatly helping Leo out. The capstan will be a BEAUTIFUL ADDITION to Tally Ho!! We all thank all of you.
A man who cares about his work and product does whatever he needs to, to get it right. Nothing leaves the shop unless it is perfect...Thank you! I deal with a guy who repaints old lionel trains, he has the same philosophy, So I KNOW, you are not milking a thing. Love your channel!
Been watching your videos. Great job. You can make as many as you want on this. Have enjoyed watching. Looking forward to see the rest. How about a cutting floor video. 😊
New generations don’t understand the amount of hard work it takes to complete complicated casts, it’s all about the phone and content, keep up the great work I’ll always keep watching…💪🏽
None of it. True engineering is a learning process. Your channel is honest. I learn more from watching your difficulties than I would watching a start to finish no mistakes version. Thank you for your honesty. It is fascinating watching/sharing the problem solving. Your channel is real and that makes it special. Thank you for your part in the Tally Ho! project.
So are you going to make up mini me capstans for this project? Scale models, or even more evil kits of raw castings to allow for the hobby people to make them.
KUDOS on doing the Tally Ho Capstan .... ps .... I saw a video of anvils and they showed the difference in the metal quality between Germany and the American one .... sad to say Germany won .... they used a steel ball and the ping and bounce was so evident who won .... really sold me on the workmanship .... watched it on RUclips ....
You can not milk a project any better than Robby Layton did on the Golden Nugget or put in as much work into it to get the perfect result, he and his crew spent 3 months sanding, replacing metal, welding, fabricating and painting that piece of scrap until the final product was requested to be at the SEMA convention. He did it all for the love of one old guy that I would be proud to meat some day. I am sure your end product will be as good to all of us Talley Ho viewers. you have to break a few molds to make a Capstan
The people watching these fall into several categories. One is they don’t know how much work filming , editing and producing any video is. So cant understand why you cant “just” produce!. Others realise you have a company that produces things for clients who want them in the time scale you have said. As such making the videos for us is a secondary job.. one job producing work for clients job two filming and setting up all the shots and audio, job three editing and up loading to RUclips. To the ones who think these three jobs can be done in the same 8 working hours as making the items for the clients… Please think HARD. For the ones who appreciate the effort and skills it takes to produce these it’s just wonderful… remember there is no production team .. it’s just normally the two with Dollars help at times. We do not care how long it takes between videos. We appreciate exactly what you do. 1 a week? 1 every 14 days ?1 a month? I and several others do not mind, we love to see them and see how and what you do. Run your company THEN give us what you can without stress strain and effecting your health. Please.

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
If 6 castings is what it takes, then that's what it takes. If you think it's a lot, then go watch SV Seeker as they try their hand at casting capstans. He over used the "try try try again" method
You know, even if you were milking the videos about the capstan, who cares? Plain jealousy if you ask me. If you can make a few bucks, why not? IF you can make money from it. I'm sure there aren't many Tally Ho fans among the complainers. I've enjoyed all the videos about the subject, and most of the other videos as well. Just ignore the haters. Thanks for the entertainment. Greetings from the Netherlands.
I was really hoping Steve was going to shoot some video when he said he was coming down to see you and bring you some shelves and such. Never mind all these fairweather new comers, haters and trolls Clarke, those of us who have been here realize that what you do isn't easy especially when it's a one off of this size. 👍👍 To the douche who said he's "milking it", WHO CARES, I say let him milk it for all it's worth. I mean what do you care it's MORE CONTENT for the channel, so how bout you stfu and enjoy it like the rest of us do.
As I transferred the camera cards to the laptop each night I had to delete old files off, I kept cramming files into that poor computer because I shot so much :) Ordered a 5 T external drive when I got home ;)
Amazing work. Congratulations to you and all the people that made this work possible. Your perseverance and dedication is inspiring. Amazing talent and experience on display!
If I may presume to speak for the Tally Ho fans, thank you so much for all the videos on the capstan. Congratulations on the succesful completion. I'm looking forward to the upcoming videos.
As a Tally Ho fan, you have conveyed my sentiments perfectly.

@@18robsmithThanks for sharing my view.
I appreciate the reality... or I just must make a lot of mistakes...
Thanks for the update. I appreciate your persistence and perseverance on this project.
Sweet! Glad to hear you guys were successful! The vid of the first attempt was so far beyond the complexity I would have ever imagined. But, in the end, it all made sense, understood all the steps and most importantly, appreciated you sharing the fail. That was really technical.

Cheers to you and your crew.

Very much looking forward to your final edited version of the tally ho job . All your videos on it so far have been very interesting. Thanks.
Just keep them coming. And, thanks for sharing! 🇨🇦

Balder Dash----A inside joke. Your tenacity and standing for quality is a rare committee in our throwaway society. GOOD ON YOU MATE!

Thanks for the extra effort in editing and publishing videos about this work. It is very much appreciated.

Congrats Clark relieved to hear it was a success! Believe me Steve enjoyed helping in the process! The capstan came out awesome! Excellent job!
Thanks for ALL you do, Sir
It is very nice to see the detail of the mistakes and how you corrected them. If that is milking it - keep on milking . . .
Glad to hear you got a good casting. Some jobs are like that. Just looked up where the Tally Ho is being rebuilt. It's about a weekend trip for me. I'm going to have to go take a look.

A good challenge is good for the thinker
Thanks for excellent series of vids on the Capstan. Gripping drama !
Wish I could be there!!!

Congratulations on the capstan casting..
I know you did a top job on it . Get well soon to your friend with the flu .
Wish I could be there!!! Sniff sniff...
What a crew !! All down to earth guys !!
Good deal Clarke.
Thanks Randy!
Don't think I'll make it to the Florida Flywheelers as I'm in Scotland but thanks for the update. ;-)
I just sent some pieces to be cast. Discovered this fine gent from Tally Ho vids.
Craftsmanship takes time and skill. Very interesting to watch. As long as you enjoy it, keep going and ignore the comments.
Been watching your videos. Great job. You can make as many as you want on this. Have enjoyed watching. Looking forward to see the rest. How about a cutting floor video. 😊
Thanks for promoting us Clark
I enjoy watching your videos on casting. 🙂
Thank You for everthing!

Tally Ho capstan, ... Tough part to cast... The learning curve required has made you a more skilled and able craftsman👍. Challenge met👌.
I reckon any form of casting is a dark art! Look forward to Saturday cheers
Enjoyed watching you battle that capstan, you and your crew did an awesome job ⚓️
Thank You so much for caring so much about us and sharing your wonderful life with us.
👍✨

Making just a slight change to the design would mean they could cast it with a much simpler cope & drag, so it wouldn't be unreasonable...

Covid sucks... I was sick 7 weeks
Clark, you gotta take care of business first. One day I'll go down there, and Arnfest...when? Hopefully before I die. LOL

I am so sorry you can't go to Florida Clark.... You have really sacrificed for this project.
You've both done good.
It's fine Steve and thabks for your help👍
lol, milking is ridiculous. Nobody wants to do more work than what's necessary to get the job done right. Nobody *wants* to make a bad pour.

On the fence
I've got 4 Kids. Every time they moved up and went to a new school. They came home with the death. I think I've had Covid 60 times by now.
Not at all fun.
I have had it once and that was MORE than enough!
I was really hoping Steve was going to shoot some video when he said he was coming down to see you and bring you some shelves and such.

Yeah. . . You’re milking it. 😂
What does it cost for this casting?
Amazing work. Congratulations to you and all the people that made this work possible. Your perseverance and dedication is inspiring. Amazing talent and experience on display!
