As international airports go, Sydney International is VERY close to Sydney city. It's the reason why some of Sydney's VERY inner central suburbs have airport noise complains, and it's the biggest reason why Sydney Airport has curfews - with no big jets landing between 11pm and 6am. Not sure of the exact distance - but at 3:25 in this video, you can see both Sydney's Central Business District and the airport on the screen at the same time. The CBD/City being in the bottom right of the screen, while the airport is on the top left.
