A really good context is the beginning of ARGO. I show the film two minutes in and ask the students what is going on? The only thing they can say is there is a protest against America. Then I show the first two minutes explains the background of what is happened in Iran, they then have the context of the story.
@@HeimlersHistoryTeachers Haha, as soon as you said it, I had a hunch - love his work! I haven't had the opportunity to study at Asbury but would love to get down there eventually . . . currently finishing an MA in Phil from Talbot.
I have taught history for 15 years and I find your video a GREAT refresher on historical teaching. Thank you for the tips!
So glad to hear it! You're most welcome!
I've used A New Hope to demonstrate contextualization already this year, but this video will help me take it to another level 🤔Thank you!!
Love this idea. Thank you for guiding us in becoming even better AP teachers for our students. My students want to know if you ever sleep!

Thanks for sharing this!
My students were really struggling with this yesterday. You must have sensed that their brain cows were drying up.
That professor with the sagacious advice wouldn't happen to have been Ben Witherington III, would it?
YES! I can't believe you knew who I was talking about! I took about every class that guy offered. Are you an Asbury alum too?
