    This is a prime example of why you should NEVER build in flood plains. Taxpayers should never be on the hook for people building in flood and hurricane zones. The people who build and live in areas that do not get flooded should not be the ones to pay for irresponsible actions of others. If you build in a flood plain, it should be your responsibility to fix things, not the lower paid taxpayers.

      There aren't many places exempt of extreme weather and natural disasters. As climate change gets worse, more places are going to see "once in a century" disasters on an annual basis.

    So to mitigate an issue, they forced all the water to homeowners who now will have to use homeowners insurance if if they are lucky enough to have it flood insurance because the city decided that was OK Someone explain that to me like I’m 4..

      Water flows. There’s no stopping it. It had to go somewhere. If it wasn’t these houses, it would’ve been other houses. If you have suddenly come up with an engineering solution to stop floods then please let us know. These people built their homes on flood plains. That was entirely their choice. They knew about the levees for a long time now. They knew from the flood back in 2019, if they were already informed before then.

      Please look at a map of Sioux City. The big Sioux River intersects with I-29, and slightly up the river is all residential area with Dakota dunes and north Sioux. Upstream of all of these is mccook lake. It is the only area upstream of these areas where water can flow into without destroying I-29, Dakota dunes, north Sioux, and riverside.

      @@hayleyrenee5781 I wouldn’t have let it get this far; if it’s a known structural or design issue, fix it. Instead money is spent on crap that’s does nothing for planning, poor planning on your part, doesn’t or shouldn’t constitute an emergency on mine…
      If your home is in a known flood plain, flood insurance and why did you even buy it? I mean common sense isn’t freaking common anymore

    • @hayleyrenee5781
      @hayleyrenee5781 3 месяца назад

      @@yeahletsunpackthat it’s not a structural or design issue. It’s intentionally built to do exactly that. That is quite literally what a flood plain is. The water has to go somewhere, so flood plains are designed to designate water to a specific area to minimize damage to surrounding areas. Like I said, look at your phone map of Sioux City. The only place the big Sioux River can flow is into mccook lake. That is the area that minimizes the damage to surrounding areas. The residents of this area have known it is the designated flood plain for a long time, and have chosen to live there and build homes there anyways. There is no problem to be solved, this is just a reality of having a city next to two large rivers that flood very often. Unless someone else can find a better flood plain, this is the only one we have.
