I always find these thin and light laptops hard to justify when the Asus Zenbook 14 exists at $700
Asus Zenbook has crap ports.
@@adaseth do you mean they have faulty ports or is it a limited port selection? Either way I still think that for thin and light laptops it is still the best value out there.
Especially since it starts at $550 at best buy. Though I still recommend the $700 version.
I am always so jealous when I hear this. The Asus Zenbook 14 (apart from the Ryzen 7-7730u version) rarely goes below €1000,- ($1060,-) in my country.
Hasnt it cooling problems when performing advanced programs such as Matlab?
Marketing of laptop right now : AI AI AI AI
True relevant use cases for Intel NPU right now for average consumer: litteraly 0
NPU is not used to control fan noise and even if it could happend it's BS yon don't need a NPU to do such a dumb and predictable task.
I feel like laptop companies think they could create sort of a FOMO with NPUs omegalul
I want a video of Josh accidentally hitting the arrow keys while seeking for Page Up and losing his mind about it.
Didn't know windows laptop screens are more pixel dense than macbook airs now, also OLED and 120Hz!
The MSI is a mid-range device, so it is different per se.
Looks nice but... what on earth is that keyboard layout? Why is there a duplicate backslash key right next to the right control key? And why not make the up/down arrow keys the same height as the left/right ones?
Would you still recommend it if you need to choose between this one and HP Spectre x360?
I lasted 3 days with this laptop, and it is back to microcenter. under load, the cpu hovered around 20watt. my XPS Plus can sustain 28watts. The "H" CPU part is misleading in this case. I much rather have the older 13th U processor if I wanted light model with good battery in a Zenbook S OLED 13 for instance. even the older Ryzen 6800U was a gem for battery life.
So, in other words, it was somewhat cool and silent and it blitzed and jumped around like a snail, eh ?
5:55 : just one heat pipe....
@@ashar8192 Core ultra, though. Maybe it's enough?
Hi Josh, would you recommend this laptop for a computer science student?
Great review, is the new MSI creator 16 ai studio a1v on your agenda?
Hey you guys fixed the sound echoing problem (check G14 and Yoga Pro 9i videos for reference) in your setup! What was the culprit?
We added massive sound dampening on the roof. London Accoustic Cloud
@@JustJoshTech Sounds great! That upgrade was well worth it for the added clarity and feel of production quality. Keep on improving, you're on the right track!
I adore PfUp/PgDn above the arrow keys. I use these keys frequently and it is super comfortable.
Its good to hear this btw. It helps us understand what people want
you mean well, but I am getting fed-up with this borderline marketing material about AI boost with no data to back them up. I much rather see a comparison of this laptop with prev gen (say the 13th U and P processors) doing the AI tasks you mention. Lightroom Denoise for instance.
I actually decided to change my tune on this in the next Zenbook video
Great job josh and crew! I love your content!
"Just Josh" your all reviews are awesome .
Thanks mate. We are constantly trying to level up the videos and surprise you guys
Which one would you recommend for photo editing, this msi prestige 13 ai evo or zenbook ux3405ma?
Could you review the Inspiron 14 5445? It has the Ryzen 8840u so it's very powerful for its price.
Love the channel and your werbpage. I personally would love to see a feature for the website, that chooses deals based on your location, not only the US/ CA.
For you ISO layout lovers out there, this laptop only comes with an ANSI keyboard, based on a device with a Nordic keyboard.
What do you think about the Asus Zenbook Pro 15 flip (UP6502)? I am considering buying it because it's currently on sale for -$500 coming in at $1300 CAD.
The speakers don't sound very well, is it always the case that downward firing speakers are bad? Also if you don't have the laptop on your desk, they sound much worse.
Keep it up guys! Can't wait for the review of the Ultra 7 155U and similar ones! HP Envy has an interesting one going! Spectre Junior as I call it, wonder how performance is. Edit: Will you do the Prestige 16?
Many thanks for this laptop review. Great quality content as expected.
Can you do a review for the msi stealth 16 ai too
wow finally no screen door effect on oled laptop screens?
Still waiting for the MSI Stealth 16 AI Studio laptop review, it looks cool, but I couldn't find any useful reviews
Could you make a review for the best laptop for music production? Preferred laptop is MSI but any laptop w/ preferred specs and reasonable price will do. Specs preferred are i7 or i9, 1TB SSD, 32GB ram, 30 series and up NVIDIA graphics
Hello,
What’s the screen refresh rate? I can’t find it anywhere.
I think it's 60 hz
Can you explain why I can't find any legion slim 7 or 7i in any stores in the UK?
Because it mostly isn't for sale yet. It isn't here in the usa
@@JustJoshTech Thanks for the quick response. Do you have any idea when they will be released or why they aren't yet?
I picked up the 16" version of this laptop and absolutely love it. Still extremely lightweight with 99.9wh battery that lasts a very long time. At half the price of a comparable 16" macbook pro it was very hard to say no.
Hey, just wondering how's it after some usage? Still doing great?
@@pahan9392 Still very much enjoying it. Unless I'm gaming at high resolutions / framerates I really don't hop on my main desktop much anymore. It's really an all-around great performer and solid laptop.
Can't wait for the best 2024 laptop videos so far
Hey Josh! Are you planning to review some more Acer laptops? The new Swift Go 14 with Intel Core Ultra 7 155H, 32GB RAM, 2.8K OLED goes on sale for 1100$. Insane deal...
Short answer is yes for sure. Long answer is, we've done a ton of individual laptop videos lately with 3 more coming out next week Galaxy Book4, Zenbook 14 AMD, IdeaPad 5 Pro 16. We are going to be taking a break and moving into some big roundup videos after this i.e. Best Laptop for $1,000. So I am not sure if the Swift will get its own review.
Also .... be very very very careful of buying a laptop based on specs alone. I would suggest buying both the Swift Go and Zenbook 14 (Also around the same price), and seeing what you like better. Return the other - if you can get hassle free returns
@@JustJoshTechThanks for the infos!
That's an incredibly well featured laptop for a list price of $1299. The 13:-inch size helps with the weight, but being under 1 kg puts it in a class by itself.
Asus Zenbook S 13 (UX5304) :)
@@svinatraktore Thanks. I wasn't aware of that Asus model. I knew the previous generation of S13 which was super light, but the 5304 came with the Intel Ultra 7.
@@woofinu 👍 And I think I would prefer that Asus :)
@@svinatraktore That Asus model checks all the boxes for me: 1 kg for 13" or 1.3 kg for 14", OLED screen, Intel Core Ultra, 16 GB of RAM. I don't game so I am not familiar with MSI which I think is strong in gaming.
@@woofinu that sounds nice. But if I get something like that I think I'll get the 'old' Ryzen 6800U zenbook S. It was a really nice pc, even though i only got to use it for an hour
Hi Josh, can we expect a review of laptops’ performance for engineering applications (Autocad, Archicad, Ansys, etc)?
This is going to be in a dedicated video but not for a while as we need to do alot of research here
since it is new its price is a tad high. Got a hp pavilion aero 13 with amd 5 series and 2560 screen for $660, it was on sale a few weeks ago (the bare bone is $450). Dell Xps 13 pro is nice, but is expensive too.
Why don't you test Linux anymore?
Because Josh does not get any Linux laptops sponsored
Because most don’t use Linux so what’s the point.
@@josephle2381 Because some of us do ? Most is relative, and also slowly shrinking, thanks to Microsoft drowning Windows.
To be fair, this laptop is more "management" people oriented, and those mostly don't use Linux.
And to answer the OP question, I think it's because this is not a review, it's a showcase, which I think implies they talk about the points that MSI set.
They probably dont test linux anymore due to how small the marketshare is and the fact the majority of the audience doesnt care.
Saying that it matters to "some" probably doesn't justify the time it takes to test a distro and stuff. Seems most agree since i dont see anyone complaining for the most part.@Winnetou17
@@jeevejavari8461plus once you open that box.. oh boy. Anything that doesn’t quite work on a simple install or if they mention they had to do troubleshooting for any components they will have so many comments telling them how incompetent they are on Linux and they should stick to Windows 😂
I was about to purchase this laptop months ago, but the keyboard layout is a deal breaker, and the integrated graphics aren't as good as I hoped. I end up buying the asus creator laptop q.
please review prestige 16 discrete GPU version.
Can you guys do a laptop recommendation for engineering students?
Hopefully we see a snapdragon version later this year at similar prices.
hey ma reaally love your videos i wanted to get a laptop but also really want a tablet so can yo pls review the galaxy book 4 360 as it is under 100 $ when student discounts are applied
Its a good laptop actually pretty good my only problem with it and some others is the plastic around the screen like for a laptop that costs over 1000€ it really makes if look cheap with the plastic around the screen and to me it takes a bit out of the premium feeling
It is a mid-range laptop, not a premium. You have to step up a grade and pay more for better.
Over 1000 dollars without taxes is too much for plastic. @@andyH_England
I would love to see a Showcase of the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i Gen 9. For almost 300€ cheaper as the Zenbook 14 (in Germany), it comes with an Ultra 7 155h, 32Gb Ram and a whoping 86Wh Battery. In theory it should have an even better Batterylife than all the other 14 Inch Notebooks.
Its coming :)
Please do the MSI Prestige 16,
could you please review the new pavilion plus 14🙏
Of course, we haven't received ours yet
5:48 wait 32GB is the same price 😮?
Yes we noticed that. Sometimes sales make that happen. Its not always like that though!
If im going for a piss then the laptop is coming with me. Nobody is afraid of a little lock anymore.
This laptop just seems too good to be true. How is it so much lighter than the competition? It is also quite cheap.
Please do the asus creator series😢
Please make a video about lenovo ideapad 5 pro 16 amd ryzen 7 gen 9😅
We are doing it but the Intel version. i do talk about the Ryzen one in it. It just wasn't available to buy when i bought it
Thanks for another great review.
this is a sponsored showcase, not a review
@@cowlodger123 I know. RUclipsrs have to pay the rent and likes/comments help their algorithms. Josh has a lot of good content, and this is my way to support him.
@@cowlodger123 I know.
When it come to regular RUclips... RUclipsrs (not only josh)
Always shows the performance comparison with MacBook & windows comes out loosing
But when it comes to sponsored content they compare the less significant parts like weight display keyboard to the MacBook.
This laptop has one fan very loud fan
Josh Sir windows on Arm is going to get mainstream soon and Microsoft is making big claims for it, including its x86 to ARM emulation. It is partnering with Qualcomm.
Would you prefer a Windows ARM Laptop over x86?
Personally I feel my Android smartphone is advance enough to be used as a portable Computer in day to day scenarios, and I have a powerful gaming Laptop with I use plugged in as a portable desktop replacement for office, learning and productivity.
I personally don't have much use for Windows on ARM.
But a fanless Windows Laptop will be quieter, though I don't have problem of fan noice on my Laptop, even while gaming.
Please watch my dedicated video on it! It's the one just before this one
@@JustJoshTech 🙏😊👍
hey , can you help me,, i have like 800 dollar and i want to buy a laptop , can you list me the best 3 laptop in the 800 dollar range.
thank you for ur help.
is there a gofundme page to buy Josh a decent haircut? I am willing to contribute.
Ha!
I was looking for a laptop for programming and thought the new Intel chip would be great for that based on benchmarks. I bought this laptop but returned it. All the pros and cons here are spot on. Ultimately the performance just wasn’t good enough for me so I went back to the Mac. I’m trying to quit Apple but PCs are still lacking.
I do coding in a PC laptop with a Ryzen 5 5500u it's a great processor. I think your issue is with the laptop not being able to sustain high performance for long time and idling at 20-28W at full load. There are great PC laptops out there.
Why do windows laptops flex and bounce so damn much? Breathe on them and they wobble. Ants could use them as trampolines.
Because MacBooks are all made of aluminum alloy. All other laptops vary with materials between plastic, magnesium, and aluminum alloy.
I'm not hating on the laptop, but everyone is plastering "AI" into their product names and marketing, which I find absolutely hilarious.
It's not like other equivalent spec laptops are less capable in "AI" compared to this one that has it written all over its product page.
And same goes for any other general consumer product that has to boast about "AI", when the technology in them isn't anything special and existed long ago.
It is a marketing spiel, and many consumers fall for it. See the 10% extra sales of the Galaxy S24 line.
After 3 videos still no review of Galaxy book series. 😒
Its in final scripting. This is for the Galaxy Book4 Pro. We do not have the Ultimate yet. We have Business video tomorrow, Zenbook should be Thursday and Galaxy Book i'd say Tuesday next week latest.
Galaxy book 4 pro 360
I don't know if I'd trust MSI laptops just yet without an unbiased review over a longer period of time. I like this channel, but sponsored showcases always have to ignore the cons of a product, which can be deal-breakers, and MSI laptops have traditionally not been very durable.
We were actually allowed to put in cons btw. We did highlight several
But waiting for long term use is always a good idea
Hi josh, Are you recently giving any giveaways? i feel there is a scam going on with your name ?
I am not. It is a scam. My giveaways are only done by Gleam.io. where did you see this?
I think whenever josh is uncomfortable about lying or he's disagree with something, he let her team mate talk so she could tell by her own experience
It says "showcase", probably sponsored lies
Huawei matebook x pro 2024 980g, better than it.
A company that puts AI on the name immediately losses my respect
sorry, I wouldnt touch an msi product with a 10 inch pole
First
Well, third
is this woman your wife?
No
@@JustJoshTech josh, i really dnt mean to be rude, her presentation was good and all, but just the image with the goth and scary tattoos, it doesnt vibe with the chanels theme, i dont understand,, overall great chanel u made, i like watching the videos, just sharing what i felt, please share some feedback to what i said
Downvoted and I explain why: AI brainwashing that an NPU would be especially suitable. Real AI runs on a dGPU and uses Nvidia's TensorRT libraries! --robert jasiek
We are aware of that. Real AI also doesn't run on laptops. It runs on massive servers. I have changed my tune about the AI hype on one of the upcoming videos, so watch that
And down vote is fine. Feedback is welcome here
I like your channel also because you listen when your viewers contribute something useful!
Endusers with AI can run it on one dGPU, as I do. Students specialised in machine learning might need to build a computer with a few GPUs or rent them online. Big companies use servers indeed. All that said, small NPUs in CPU SoCs might have some use but I have yet to be convinced that any is better than PR. --robert jasiek
