Planet Coaster - Jägerhorn Mountain Train (Part 1) - Coaster Building & Terraforming

  • All aboard the Jägerhorn Mountain Train! In this series I will be working on a heavily themed, realistic mine train coaster similar to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Expedition Everest - but with a European Alpine theme. Featuring rugged rocky cliffs, intricate manicured foliage and nostalgic Swiss Chalet style architecture, it'll make you feel like you're flying through the high European Alps. Hopefully. Don't tell anyone, but miniature railroads have also been an unusual inspiration for this ride. And if anything, it's a comeback for the old 'mine train' coaster in Grizzly Valley; after more than a year of waiting, a realistic sequel is finally here!
    In this first part I will be working on major parts of the layout, as well as shaping the mountain it curves around using the terraforming and terrain painting tool. Also, quite a bit of scenery detailing is done to get an idea of what the coaster will eventually look like - most of all, lots of rockwork, themed catwalks around the entire ride, and upside down bushes and sunken trees to create the sub-alpine highland look.

    Silvarret's voice is pretty hot anyway... But I always love hearing him say "Hey guys, and welcome to a NEW SERIES of Planet Coaster". It's because I know Silvarret's one of the best at going above and beyond with decorating the parks, even down to tiny details you may not notice. I just like how he pushes the boundaries of what he can make, whilst making sure it is realistic too.

    Silv,
    If you want your catwalks to look a little more prototypical to Vekoma, lift them up 0.3-0.5 meters. they should be level with the step to enter the car, just like the station platform, so guests don't get caught between the rail and the car.

    Little question/request: is there a chance you give us a sort of 'behind the scenes' in which you show us sketches you made for your coasters/parks? I think that would be incredibly interesting! :)
    Keep up the awesome work, Silv, your creations always give me the perfect escapism feeling, the feeling of being away in a wonderful other world that I'm looking for in this game!

    I have watched this episode a fair few times today and each time, I pick up something new which you have done with the details of the theming of the ride. I then started to work on some styles you were doing in this video for new techniques to learn. Getting there with the track but, and I have to say you probably get this a lot, but you are just amazing in your designs, theming and just everything you do. Thank you for your tutorial videos.

    That second drop looks intense haha, love it!
    I love the custom catwalk work, it looks great and I vote for the bare carts without the train.
    Don't quote me on the 100m evacuation distance haha, it just seems like that on Big Thunder Mountain in Paris. Probably because of European regulations but I never really studied mine trains. :D
    Looking forward to the next episode!

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  7 лет назад +10

      Thanks! I wasn't going to leave this Vekoma family coaster without hitting some sustained negative G's! >:D I'm really torn over the carts though, they look great bare, but the locomotive fits the theme more. Oh well, we'll see what happens in the end.
      Fair enough, I shouldn't hold you accountable for any unsourced quotes. But it really seems like a ton of evacuation stairs, haha.

    Very nice speed throughout the whole track. This ride has very nice banking as well, so although it isnt super tall there are very fun moments that happen that experienced roller coaster fans would enjoy. I am also a fan of the Catwalks and the variation you included with those catwalks. I am sure you will nail the buildings as always.

    Hey Silv. I actually worked on BTMRR at Disneyland for several years. Its not necessarily that they have evac routes every 100ms. The attraction just utilizes its blocks so that you essentially have a SAFETY brake before each lift hill (3 lift hills) and a park brake (before the first lift hill). Keep in mind the 3rd safety brake or zone, is right before the final brake block prior to entering the station.
    So as far as evac routes go, we could technically evac through the entire attraction at any point. However the safest places to obviously stop the train are in areas of control (Lift Hills, Brake Zones, and of course, the Station itself). It just so happens the attraction is designed to lose enough momentum at each point that it does roughly come out to ~100m. This is not intentionally designed for this reason, its designed for capacity. (BTM pre refurb could accomplish roughly 2300-2400 riders per hour on a 5 train operation).
    I hope this helps. If you want any other insight be sure to ask!

    Good Ol' Silv, everyones building go kart tracks and here's you building a mine train coaster. I wouldnt mind not having biome painting in every map if it's due to the way the terrain maps layers, as long as they add a separate category for landscape painting that has all the textures plus a brush palette so we can 'fill concrete' squares or make artificial biomes.

    Removing collisions should really open this game up immensely more so than the content prior already had, primarily for dark rides since it's going to be so much easier to work terrain and rooms around sections of tracks. I'd love to see you try your hand at a dark ride some time soon, but I'm aware you don't necessarily have that kind of time on your hands and it would be one hell of a series on the channel.

    My gosh this is incredible. How can you still impress me even with your already incredible background..? :D
    Quick notes: The first Big Thunder Mountain was made by WED and Arrow. All the other ones were Vekoma.
    The catwalk thing is something from Disney, not Vekoma (their other mine trains don't have them). I guess it's both for inspections and evacuations. (Regular cast members have to walk around the track every morning before opening their attraction, after the maintenance guys already checked it)
    You are really getting better and better at theme park and ride design. In fact, you are among the very few Planet Coaster builders to really dig into that. Heck, I'm sure your skills would interest real life companies.

    • @KingRCT3
      @KingRCT3 7 лет назад +2

      Oh I forgot, I guess with the terain textures you can slighlty apply a change of brightness between the bottom and top of the mountain? That would be great for the forced perspective! (lighter at the top, more colorful at the bottom)

    A lovely look, Sil, as always. You know, I wonder about the catwalk/escape issues Disney faces---they do operate in various nations AND of course in two different U.S. states, each with their own "fine print" in safety laws. I have a feeling they've established a company-wide best/worst-case scenario where they can, at least as far as those safety issues, make it "one size fits all." As an L.A. native who's grown up with Disneyland since the start, I have had the experience of a ride shutdown and having to be evac'd on various attractions, and I also think that a lot of the extensive catwalking, even on non-speedy dark rides, was, in the case of older rides, also a product of security concerns. When you leave the rides this way you often see little areas that would have been posted with an observer/cast member to make sure nobody tried to get out of the cars or did something else that now, I'm sure, is covered by security cameras, beam-break gizmos, etc. etc.

    I just started on a alpine mine train coaster myself last night for my park after running a poll, that's what people wanted. Interesting to see your video today lol. Hope you don't mind I'll most likely steal a few ideas here :) We are even using the same coasters as inspiration with 7 Dwarves and Grizzly, and even a bit of Expedition Everest.

      I'm afraid that's because of my actually, I voted for Mine Train there :p But I guess we're on the same line about these then, so of course I don't mind!

      Awww.. makes sense then. I'm having a tough time with the layout on mine. In order to get a few elements that must haves for me it's turning into a longer and larger coaster than I set out to do. I've got to condense it a bit. There's a few ideas on yours layout wise I may try to implement. Looking forward to the next episode. I had seen your teases on twitter and was wondering when there would be a video.
