I hadn't paid much attention to this song before someone commented that Curt received no camera time on this vid. The bass in this IS outstanding. I don't believe Curt has ever been recognized for the fact that he IS a bass player. A very good bass player. Go Curt! We love you!
You know they are true musicians because every time they sang live, they sounded just as good as the record. Can't say the same for most musicians today!
Even though this was never a single, this has to be in my top 3 TFF tracks. Every note played is just awesome, that Piano, mesmerising drumming, the bass, lead guitar & vocals, just all fit together so perfectly. This live version even better than the album version. I could listen to this all day. My life, these guys were brilliant beyond words. I was blessed to live during these days of such quality music.
@@peterlipaj1864 The second keyboard player was Andy Davis. He has a very active music resume over the past several decades: www.andrewcresswelldavis.com/about/
I am so in love with this song. Roland's lyrics are magnificent and Curt's bass is hypnotic. if re-released would be an instant hit. love this band forever. still listening all the time.
Crazy good!!! The drumming alone is a thing of beauty. They were something else. So much killer material, yet they were grossly underrated. Oh well. I'm rambling. This video got me stoked.
One of the reasons the Hurting stands out above the other albums released during this time is because of the excellent arrangements in the songs, very sophisticated, especially for a debut album. And yes, Curt's bassplaying goes underrated, but not by me..
That instant, at 5:37, where Roland transitions from a powerhouse performer with a booming voice to a young guy with a shy grin, waving goodnight to the house. ♥
These guy were and still are way underrated, grab a CD of Big Chair and Seeds of Love, DO NOT listen to this music in ANY compressed format MP3 Apple etc, I play on any CD player and listen on a decent pair of headphones, you WILL be blown away by the sound quality even now.
Funny you posted that 5 years ago only to find out now that cars are not being constructed with CD players anymore. My 2019 doesn't have a CD player and I have the sport model. That sucks that I never bought a copy of a CD of Songs from the big chair. Probably will have to get a portable CD player before those become extinct too...

I've always appreciated this band, since I was 15-ish; and I am even more appreciative because I now realize how smart and introspective their lyrics are. and to see all of you posting the same makes me feel like I'm not some crazy middle aged troller that shares that sentiment ( even if that's true) :-) Honestly I do think TFF was so very underrated. I wish I kept my concert t shirt from 1984 at Red Rocks :-(
Wow. Now it's 2018 and it's 35 years old. Still going strong, still gaining new fans who overlooked it and some who were not born yet. A wise man once said, "Funny how time flies"🎼🎵🇺🇸🇬🇧💚🍀🍀#Roland.
Please let's not start another Curt vs Roland war. I haven't paid very much attention to either since they broke up and got back together again but they're both such accomplished musicians.
Christ!!,I'm back in my attic bedroom as a sixteen year old lad hanging on the every word I taped on cassette from the Album I bought for my then girlfriend Clare's birthday. (don't tell her I taped it tho eh?)
How was this song not a single or a hit? The absolute best one off of the album. The bass, drums and Rolands voice are everything in this song and the added bonus of the his guitar solo makes the song even better. Omg I wish I had internet back in the 90s because my assumption was that songs from the big chair was they first album until years later. But this my absolute favorite song off of this album. It was a well done album And I wished I had though my tough years. SFTBC helped throughout the years but this album understands my pain exactly. It’s absolutely the start of the breakdown.
Last song on side 2 of the cassette... it's been a journey through the past listening to these songs. So happy I found my old cassettes. I loved this song when I was a teenager. I seriously enjoyed this journey of watching/listening to every song in order. Long live the 80's :)
my fav yea! Finally got to see them this summer with my sister best day ever$$$ love their hairstyles timeless sound great music!!! Tracey from Detroit
God i love this band and i live 1 mile down the road from where this was recorded at thier home :P best bast ever just behind depeche mode and pink floyd a close 3rd :P:P

I just noticed the same thing! He is featured for literally less than a second. Yet the bass and drums make the song. What a groove.
He's on left of the screen at the very beginning. Oops, 1:18, there he is again!

TRUE!!!
Ian Stanley's melodic synth, Manny Elias' hypnotic drumbeat, Curt Smith's rhythmic bass line, and Roland Orzabal's voice...that voice!
And the name of the second keyboardist?
Peter Lipaj - Unfortunately, I don't know.

It's incredible, they're just 22 years old and they are perfect, better of the studio version! Great band and Roland is incomparable!
they really are!! i hope the next album is more like the hurting!! dark experimental and melancholy!!!
Crazy good!!! The drumming alone is a thing of beauty. They were something else. So much killer material, yet they were grossly underrated. Oh well. I'm rambling. This video got me stoked.
Wow......still amazed by Roland's vocals.......amazing band forever!
By far the greatest band of the 80s. And decades later has proved that to be true. So underrated at the time but time has proven them to be the best
This lineup Orzabal, Smith, Stanley & Elias is topnotch unbeatable!!!! That drums and the voice is a killer!!!
probably one of the best song of this great band. The bass is simply a dream, driving it

Hands down the best lyricsr of the 80's their wordplay is flawless and their music is just timeless and this song is a testament

Roland's voice is out of this world. This is it. This is all you need.

The're amazing. This song is so beautiful. Roland's Voice , wow
of course you have not overlooked Curt's baseline. This is song is a classic!
unsung drummer hero!!! It just wouldn't have been the same without his unique beat.
great performance. roland's vocals are perfect

The Hurting - beat TFF album. This live version is just incredible.
Tears For Fears seems to be one of the best bands ever, like Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, A-ha!!

la musica de a-ha

That's bassists fate...playing great and never been seen on a video. :)
Roland! That guitar solo at the end should’ve been on the album version! It so solidifies the song along with the bass and drums!
This sounds so much better live! What a performance...
