One of the best videos out their on bullet journaling and using the system in TN format. Thank you for this tutorial. I will save it and refer back to it often.
I was hesitant because this was such a long video, but it was worth it. Every minute of video was relevant info, rather than fluff. I just started bullet journaling, and while my main interest was seeing how it's done in a traveler's notebook, I got a lot of helpful info. Specifically, I appreciated the in-depth explanation of how migrating things works. And I love the look of your minimalist layouts. But I'm still going to watch the over-customized artistic videos and live vicariously through them, because I'm a bit of a magpie at heart :)
Your video is like finally finding that needle in the haystack! Saving this video for sure. I have a planner perfect travelers and it carries 5 books for me right now plus a notepad.
Have been using my mobile as planner and this video makes me wonder if I should really get a physical planner and use this system. A very detail and clear description. Awesome!
+lynzzie's lifestyle I still utilize the Notes app in my phone for on the go bullet journaling so that if I have an idea it doesn't slip my mind. But I make sure to transfer everything to paper every night before bed.
I have tried to get my bullet jounal working, but so many ideas became so complcated for me. Your explanation was so clear and helpful. I have the MTN and several notebooks and have been searching, with no success, for the calendar that will work for me. Yours will and I will order from your etsy. I'm excited to get started. Thank you!
your the first person I've seen on RUclips who I believe really uses this system at the highest potential it offers. I really loved your video and thank you so much for sharing!
Exactly what I needed. So many videos are showing how someone “set up” their planner. Yours shows how you USE it. Love that you give examples of everything. Overall, one of the most helpful bullet planner tutorials I’ve found on You Tube.
Haha! This was one of my first ever videos and I always cringe that it’s in portrait mode, but it seems to be helpful so I just muscle through it and leave it up! 😂
I would just like to say. I appreciate the simplicity of your 3 journal system. It works REALLY well with what I already do. I have a calendar / daily entries / lists and there will only be a couple of small changes to switch over to a format like this that I will be trying shortly. Love it. :) People seem to make these bullet journals super complicated and spend soo much time playing with them and coloring them instead of actually completing the tasks in the journal. Whereas, I can see that yours is (where it is a little less "pretty") EXTREMELY functional. I appreciate that change. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this video! I've been searching for one that explained more in depth how the bullet system works and yours was perfect! Very well done and very informative.
I've watched a TON of videos on bullet journaling but NONE that have ever made sense to me like this one!! Thank you SO much for sharing how you bujo, I'm super excited to finally get my *ish together using this/your method ❤️❤️
I can't tell you how helpful this video was for me! I have been "trying" midori style planning for several months and couldn't figure out why I was so frustrated...it was simply because I was not letting my brain go into my daily list, just trying too hard to make "collections" of everything and it all gets lost. With your complete explanation I am now fully confident this will be the best year ever!!! Thanks a billion :)
This was fabulous. Love how thorough, yet amusing, it was and how you kept it real. No one will accomplish all goals and tasks, and that's ok. Thanks for sharing your method with us.
Thank you for this video. Deciding and figuring out how I want to use my notebook has been a beast. I love watching the videos where the planners/journals are all glammed out but it's not for me. Simple is me. Getting to the simple part....🤪. "Remember. It doesn't have to be tasks you're planning on tackling this day, it's just that this information came to you on April 10th..." YES!! You've helped me with my post-it problem. 🙏
thank you so much for posting! I kept searching for "how to bullet journal" and I just found the 3 min video the creator made (great but to short for me to really understand) and hundreds of people showing there own setup without explaining how bullet journals work!
You are awesome! I love how concise and non-rambly your videos are. Kudos for working off a script and not saying "uh" every orher word like I would do :) i'm subscribing. That says a lot!
Your video was very helpful to me! I am in my last semester of college before sudent teaching and have been struggling with a way to keep all my assignments in one place! This is wonderful! Thanks for being so detailed and showing us step by step. Thanks for sharing!!
Fine video! I'm moving my bujo from field notes size to a traveler's notebook and your set up really helped me. Thanks for doing this a couple of years ago!
I've watched many of these videos... I'm great at "Planning" but not so good at STARTING! I actually subscribed to your channel because of the clarity of voice and grammar and how well you explain your process. Using a script!? What a concept! It works well for you. I look forward to following your progress. I love the colors and stickers and different colored pens and washi, but I personally get lost in all of that. Your process is simple and relate-able. Great job and thank you for keeping it simple! GOOD LUCK FINISHING YOUR MASTERS! (If you're not already done.)
Finally!! A bullet journal explanation I feel I can understand and incorporate into my full time working mom routine! :) Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Great Video! I was doing a ton of research on Bullet Journaling, and this video actually really helps explain the concept well. While I'd like to use a grid book in my Midori, I'm also trying to fit in the bullet journal concept in my weekly planner notebook. We'll see how it works.
I agree that this is one of the better videos on getting started and explaining the system. I have watched a couple of times. Thanks for the closer look at your actual tasks. It helped me decide what should go in there. LOL @ Thor.
WOW.. I have never commented on a video, but you have really impressed me and I wanted to thank you for your tips! You definitely know what works for you, and I'm so glad I viewed this video because I, as I watched, began using some of your techniques as well! :D THANKS! ..on my way to a more organized life :)
Thank you so much. I have watched lots of videos on how to work with a bullet journal and this is one of the best that explains the system. Excited to set it up now. :)
Omg! What a great video! I just ordered a few molskine cahier notebooks and honestly wasn't sure if I was going to be able to figure out bullet journaling! THANK YOU!
YAY! Finally someone can explain the Bullet Journal concept so even I can understand it!! ;) Thank you so much for this detailed video - I think I might give it a try! :)
Thanks so much for this video! I have go to get my stuff for school, work, and life together and organized. I am currently doing my way for the bullet journaling just for work but it is so hard doing two systems! Thanks for the great ideas!
This video is amazing! I appreciate this so much! Your explanations make perfect sense and are easy to follow. I get so overwhelmed watching videos with overly decorated/artsy notebooks. It makes me feel like I'm not doing it right lol! This functional, organized, and adaptable. Thank you so much!
You are a genius! I think I just found my planner for 2015 :) With your tweaks it's perfect now. I have a Dori and had same issues with the original version, but now I can do it :) Thanks
Loved this! I've abandoned my Filofax A5 in patent nude with the inkwell press inserts (used it for about 5 months) and ordered a regular TN in camel! Can't wait to use it as my Bujo!
Bullet Journaling has seriously changed the way I organize my life! Check out my other videos on how to use this system in a Filofax and an Erin Condren Life Planner (similar to the InkWell Press Planner), just in case you ever want to try those planners again ;) ECLP: ruclips.net/video/WSPk-An-YDE/видео.html Filofax: ruclips.net/video/Wpvnxg5dRc8/видео.html
Thank you for a very informative video. I have several large projects and was struggling with how to keep track. I will use your system but with a ringed binder.
This is a great video. I have been searching for a video like this forever. One that goes over the nuts and bolts of the day to day use of the bullet journal. It is nice to see the pretty layouts, but I just needed to figure out the best way to use the bujo system. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad the video was helpful. Sometimes even I come back and re-watch my own video to remind myself that simpler is better!
I rarely comment or subscribe! But awesome video and great explanation on how you use your Midori! I've been looking for a better system and love this set up! Thank you for doing this video!!
You did such a great job of explaining this. I've watched several videos and read the site and your explanation is better than any of them. Thank you!!! I can do this now!
Great video! You did a fantastic job explaining each part to it's fullest. I can't wait to try this. Everything that I have done in the past just has not worked and I really need something to place all my thoughts and ideas that come to me in a day. Thank you!
Can you make an updated video of your midori and bujo? I love this video and keep coming back to it. This video actually got me started with my bullet journal and getting a midori too so thank you :)
+Kayla Pedigo Hi Kayla! I just posted a similar video about bullet journaling in a Filofax that might be helpful. Is there anything specific you are looking for in an update video? I'd be more than happy to film something for you! :)
thank you, this is such a great video - I finally get it! :) it being the 1st August I'm going to start BJing properly... ;) I'm so used to re-writing my todos list every day, it will take some getting used to but take up a lot less room! :)
Thanks for the excellent explanation of bullet journaling. It's the best on you tube. I like bullet journaling as I can see all of my tasks, events and notes in one notebook. I went to your Etsy shop. I like the way you organized your fauxdori with the inserts, calendar, business card holder, plastic pocket. I saw your current video. Do you customize your orders?
So informative! I was hemming and hawing at how to set up my TN, this guide is amazing. Also, a tip from a native French speaker - cahier is pronounced with a silent r, like "ka-yay" ☺
One question: when you quickly jot down an upcoming appointment within your day, to walk with mom for example, then add it to your calendar at the end of the day; how do you prevent having to call back to reschedule because you found out you've double-booked? I'm seriously looking into bullet journal for 2015 and am trying to work out some of the details like this. Wouldn't it be wise to turn to your calendar before giving mom an answer? Great video. Very informative.
My social calendar is very sparse so I'm rarely busy enough to double book myself. But I would definitely do as you suggested and check my calendar before committing to anything with a specific time requirement. If, for example, I know I need to make an appointment but I'm more flexible as to when it can happen, I will just write down making the appointment as a task in my bullet journal and then schedule from there. Great question!
This is a great system, and great to see one not used for flowers etc but for practical purposes. I love the Midori system of the different books and am loking online to get them as I'm watching your video. I do think you are spending too much time writing and reusing your lists though. For instance you write a task when you think of it, and then on your calendar if it's an event, and again when you want to do that task. Rather than writing it in your task list in the first place, just write in in your calendar, then when you do your task list at the beginning of each day, check your calendar first then write that event into your task list/journal. That will also tell you how much time you will have as your events will take a certain amount of time. The other thing you could do is have a weekly or running task list - you seem like me, where I have an ongoing task list and intend to do them all every day, and rarely do - instead of writing them every day, just write them every week. Still shows what is important, what you want to prioritise, what you can discard, but you wont be writing them every day - which kind of ruins the efficiency purpose of the whole bullet journal idea. Only write what you will actually be able to achieve every day. And writing the page numbers or dates next to migrated items, or page of the collection, will help references later :) Nice adaptation of the system though.
Haha! That's only because I have been super busy with school lately that I haven't been good at getting my To Do's done. The point of this system is to just get the ideas out of your brain and onto paper so you can reference them later. My biggest issue is forgetting all the good thoughts that pop into my head!
Ahhh that makes sense! Thanks for explaining. I've started a trial bullet journal, not with daily lists for the moment (else like you I'd be continually rewriting the not completed tasks!) but just a list of the todos and things I have to remember. TFS and take care! x
Greetings Jessica! I enjoyed your video and I feel more educated and more prepared to begin my bullet journey. One question: Were the "School To-Do's double migrates" Did you migrate them to a Master Task list(is this a different notation --->) and Then migrate them to another day or month(->). I hope this question is clear.
Hey! Loved the walk-through, love seeing how another midori-user set up their bullet journal. Just as a sidenote, cahier is pronounced more like CA-yay then ca-HEE-er. It comes from French :)
Haha thank you! Now, perhaps can you tell me how to pronounce Leuchtturm? I'm planning on doing another Bullet Journaling video soon and I'm terrified to attempt pronouncing that! ;)
thank you soooo much after 4 videos i was kinda blah confused!! But I like this system think I can work with it. Trying to learn it though. what is 365/30? = to year/month = to how long you have to complete task? or what? so I can jot down but doesnt mean have to be done all that day? cuz i get busy and love to brain dumpt alot ideas! thank you for sharing! waiting on your response ty
Hi Marylou! I'm glad I could help clear things up for you! 365/30 is just a journaling group on Facebook. Every month they post journaling prompts for every day of that month. I was originally keeping the insert in there that I was using for my 365/30 daily journaling but I have since moved it out. Here is the link to the Facebook page: facebook.com/groups/philofaxy36530list/ The beauty of the bullet journal system is exactly what you described. Unless something NEEDS to be done by a certain date, you can basically just use it as an organized brain dump. And if something has a specific due date, just notate it in your journal or calendar. Let me know if you have any more questions! :)
Do you ever record/document conversations from a phone call? Documenting bits of information of what the person said? If so, do you write it down in the same area for the current day? If not, where do you document the "he said, she said" of a conversation...personal/business calls. I hope this makes sense.
+Learnto Crochet I would find a clean page, take my notes in there, and then log it in my Table of Contents with a title for the conversation and possibly the date.
+JoyfullyJulie's World I have so many random thoughts in my brain at any given time during the day so I need to have a tool to record them at all times! Sometimes technology has to save the day!
As an additional wondering though - do you use a weekly calendar insert as well? Or is your Bullet Journal your weekly calendar? I find a lot of repeat entries and work between keeping the two. What I most like about the Bullet Journal idea is the fact that we can see tasks that are moved from month to month - to see what truly is being completed.
I have a weekly calendar insert only for appointments because the bullet journal does not have a method for future planning. When I receive the information for an appointment that I need to write down, I first write it in the bullet journal and then transfer that date to my appointment calendar at the end of the day.
One question re forward planning: if I have recurrent todo's for every month, would I note those under lists, then migrate them to each monthly task list, then to the daily todo's? Any advice appreciated as I would want to avoid repetitive writing!
If your recurring to do's happen on a monthly basis, you could try listing them in your monthly list at the beginning of each month and then cross them off as you go. Another option would be possibly laminating the recurring list and moving it forward with you each month to avoid having to re-write it every month.
I got all of my accessories for this Traveler's Notebook on Amazon. You slip the notebooks and envelopes under the elastic straps to get them inside. I hope that helps!
Hi, I'm loving your system so much! I've already ordered your calendar off etsy but I have another question-- where did you get those gold arrow clips?
I keep mine really simple so it's pretty intuitive for me. I've seen some setups with a ton of different symbols and half-shaded squares for partially completed projects and that just looked like way too much work to keep straight. If I can't memorize my symbols it won't come to me quickly enough when I'm writing and I'll just give up! Simple is successful!
would you make a video about what lists you feel are important to have, im new to planning and im finding it difficult to find information on what lists people find helpful
Hi Julie! I’m planning on doing a video about my current updated system very soon and I will cover the lists that my bullet journal currently contains. Lists are a very personal, customizable aspect of a planner so it’s really just going to depend on the person and what they want to keep track of. For me, some of my lists include: long-term goals and projects, house projects, weekly/monthly/yearly cleaning checklist, a books wishlist, pet health notes, new video ideas for my RUclips channel, sticker ideas for my Etsy shop, just to name a few. I love lists and have a huge section of my planner dedicated to keeping track of them. I hope that helps!
One of the best videos out their on bullet journaling and using the system in TN format. Thank you for this tutorial. I will save it and refer back to it often.
I was hesitant because this was such a long video, but it was worth it. Every minute of video was relevant info, rather than fluff. +Rabi Ahmad Glad you enjoyed it! Just don't watch any of my Erin Condren planner videos...LOTS of stickers and customized covers haha! ;) Cheers!

Definitely! Send me a message on Etsy and we can discuss customization options for size and elastics :)
Bravo!!! Very well explained! Thanks!
Thanks a lot for your video - it was incredibly helpful and informative :)
Now I get it! Thanks so much
really really really good video. Thank you so much for sharing
This was so helpful. Thank you!
This was very detailed and extremely helpful. Thanks
So helpful!
So informative! I was hemming and hawing at how to set up my TN, this guide is amazing. Also, a tip from a native French speaker - cahier is pronounced with a silent r, like "ka-yay" ☺
Thank you for the tip! I’m glad you enjoyed the video :)
And writing the page numbers or dates next to migrated items, or page of the collection, will help references later :)
Nice adaptation of the system though.
I like that word... adaptation! let's see what it means to Jessica and how She wants Her bullet journal to work for HER 😂
Wow you read my whole comment?!? It was an essay, thought no one would haha!
This is so good! 😊
I'm glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching!
Great ideas!
Good explanation of the system. Looks interesting, although there seems to be a lot of rewriting of tasks that don't get completed.
I'm planning on doing another Bullet Journaling video soon and I'm terrified to attempt pronouncing that! ;)
@@JessicaTorina It pronounces LAW-EEH-TOUR-M
@@negrolder Thank you!
thank you, very helpful
thank you soooo much after 4 videos i was kinda blah confused!!
Here is the link to the Facebook page: facebook.com/groups/philofaxy36530list/
The beauty of the bullet journal system is exactly what you described. Unless something NEEDS to be done by a certain date, you can basically just use it as an organized brain dump. And if something has a specific due date, just notate it in your journal or calendar.
Let me know if you have any more questions! :)
I can't find the Facebook page to print the calendar you are using. I love your video very helpful
Click "Show More" under this video and the links are available there: Midori Traveler's Notebook Setup April 2014
Very helpful video! One request though: could you please flip the video so that it's full screen? That would be great!
Excellent idea to use NOTES on the phone and call it bullet journal!
Excellent video thank you
Thank you for watching! I hope it was helpful :)
Lol your video makes we want to change the name of all my people to hobbits and elves and other awesome people so my life looks interesting
beautiful love it 🤗💚where you have buy or order this cards envelope and how you put in the journal?
I got all of my accessories for this Traveler's Notebook on Amazon. You slip the notebooks and envelopes under the elastic straps to get them inside. I hope that helps!
thank you very much😊
Hi, I'm loving your system so much! I've already ordered your calendar off etsy but I have another question-- where did you get those gold arrow clips?
+ladybard327 Amazon! They're called book darts. :)
Excellent tutorial for bullet journaling. I do have a question, how long did it take for you to become proficient? :)
