  • Because of all the rain in the past few weeks, the Oker Dam in the Harz region overflowed on December 26, 2023. The spillway consists of 8 siphon-like tubes. Due to the weight of the falling water, the output capacity is increased significantly by exploiting the suction effect. With the ventilation valves closed (1:39) 120 m³/s are achieved. The bottom outlet has a maximum output capacity of 16 m³/s.
The dam last overflowed in 1981 and 1994.

That's one of the cool things about many European countries, they don't get so uptight about people getting close to things like this. I once visited an alloy metal factory in Norway. They walked us by the huge furnaces (granted not too close), I don't think we even had to wear hard hats. Then they took us to the control room and we all stood listening to a talk with our backs almost touching a wall full of levers and switches that anyone could have pulled if they wanted.
I doubt one could get this close to any dam's water spouts in the U.S.

Lol yes we can. We have paths we can walk over them or even drive over. Lots of people fish at the bottom of the dam. They have it setup so you can fish. Most with pole holders.

That is some weight, and speed, and corrosive effect. Water is so powerful, it can destroy everything. And mankind think they control it? Silly people.
