Just bought a sportage but in talking to the kia and Hyundai salespeople they explained the wired car play is due to a agreement with the Sat Nav company they use. Since the base models on the tuscon and sportage (not sure about Santa fe / Sorrento) don't have sat nav they get wireless car play. The other models are forced into wired. It's certainly not a capability issue.
