I used to put a couple of coats of gesso on the back of wall-paneling pieces. Didn't care for the toothy feel, but once I used an electric palm sander, the surface felt like fine paper. I always started by applying the gesso with a putty knife (scraping) to fill in the wood grain and let dry before rolling on the next two coats. I never thought of using MDF panels. Have to try it.
Gesso is what I was taught in college to prime a canvas/ground with. It is formulated to adhere to the ground better than regular acrylic paint methinks. :)
I too was taught in college how to prepare a canvas from first with rabbit glue then with several gesso coats so it would be ready to accept the painting with oil, or acrylic paint. So I assumed that you bought an already primed canvas. Also many painter use wet acrylic coats before starting to pour. It allows an easier flow for the paint. So I was just wondering why gesso which takes longer to dry than acrylic.
She used gesso. You can find it at any walmart or craft store. It is just a primer that allows a surface to be painted on with more ease so that the "tooth" or texture of your painting surface doesn't eat up too much paint.
YES YOU CAN. and if you add pouring medium or something it will hold even better and look cooler. however i still havent played with the silicone yet. but dont be scared. paint pour that mamajama
I like to see the dried result.....this was beautiful . Thank you
This pour may not have done what you intended, but I think it turned out to be very stunning. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Thanks!
Totally what I'm looking for my house -thank you!!
I love the black an whit wit the negative space!
Thanks Dinah! I agree. Sometimes too much gets muddied with a lot of color. Black and white reveals all the chemical reactions much more clearly. :)
Thanks for sharing the dried version as well (so many don't bother) ~ looks great!
Yeah, the dried versions usually look very different.
Lovely work! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks!

Any reason to put gesso on canvas at first rather than white acrylic paint? Striking work.

What did you use for the canvas? And what did you paint it with? Just normal white acrylic paint?
