I did two black and white paintings the other day and was trying to achieve all the pebble look. I did white on black then black on white. They look great, but no pebble look. I haven't tried the pouring medium you use. I used Floetrol. You got what I wanted! I have learned soooo much from you! Thank you for all your instruction and videos!
I a professor in Art & Design and spent my life in teaching. But my God you are amazing. I am sure going to use your technique, sur, and shall teach my students as well. You have become my teacher I guess. Many thanks.
Love your work. I have just started with the fluid painting after many years of NOT doing much art at all and I LOVE it. I follow a few people (you being one) who do fluid paintings and what I love is how different it can be from person to person as well as from painting to painting!! Black and White can be hard but you got a beautiful result. Before all the cells appeared it reminded me of an abstract graphite work I did many years ago. 😀. Very cool.
You did it! Gorgeous contrast, no muck. Your mystery paint is exciting me. Also, I think more pouring medium may also help in other pours for binding. I am excited for you. I have finally gotten some paints mixed and ready to pour, but still have not been able to set up a place to pour. I'm working on it though.
mel, this painting is my absolute favorite of any of yours... and i'm a a-clown-threw-up-on-my-canvas-and-it-needs-more-colors-color-kinda person. i don't know if you picked it up yourself, but that looks so dimensional the cells look like bubbles and the white jumps out at me... and so blatantly dimensional thati can tell ya the white sits about 4 inches higher to my eye than the black does. WOW. did anyone else see that? that was so cool to watch... at least on my screen, its friggin awesome!!!! god. i like that. well done! and i think the amount of change that went thru is like magic. i keep watching the timelapse over and over. its a completely different piece. nuts. BRAVO!!!! BRAVO~~~~ THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!shoot do another one!!
I love working with black and white and all of the shades they produce. I have always liked B&W in my photography too. You should try more! Love this one very much!
VERY COOL!!! i love the fact that you used a grip of pouring medium cuz i always feel like im using too much but i just like the effects. but anyways it turned out beautifully as always with your paintings. i think you are the best paint pour painter. whenever anybody asks me how to do it i just basically tell them to watch you, you do such a good job of running down the whole shpeel of the process. youre the greatest! much love to you and yours! MelyD for President !
I do the same (Tell people on pouring FB to watch her) and I'm noticing more people are doing these kinds of pours now. I hope Mely that more people in the last few weeks have subscribed. I get some failures, but it is always a surprise to see what happens. I have a few that I really love.
Crochet Happy thank you so much for your kindness you have no idea how much this means to me. As for my followers, they go up on a steady pace I'd say, depending on how much I post. I would LOVE to post more often but I can only film on the weekend. If you would like to send a donation (that I will buy materials with for sure!) I have just added a Donate button on my YT homepage. You are the first to offer this :) Thanks again for your loyalty and recognition. It's because of people like you that I love to share. xXx
MelyD, have you tried adding PVA glue with your pouring medium to help the black & white stay separated? I’m just wondering if that’s another option since keeping the grey effect from happening is the goal. 💜 ur art!!
I know in some of your other videos you use the whole 2oz color with splash of LPM. How much water do you add? I did take note that you used more PM to this Pour but wondered how much water u also used here. I am dying to try so many of the videos I have watched but still trying to figure out how all the PMs work for me. My results have been fair. I used LPM for the first time yesterday & can't wait to do another experiment! TY for all you share. It's nice to hear the explanation of how it all works. I am eager to get more successes !
Wow Mely, I love how you tilt. You’re paints are always mixed perfectly. Wonder what would happen if you put some paint in a spray bottle? Ever do that at the end? Hmmmm
Hi MelyD for the white you mixed artist loft and what is the other brand I can’t make it out in the video. The black you said artist loft, mars black and the 3rd brand is ? I’m sorry I just can’t make it out. I love all your paintings, you are one of my favourite artists. Appreciate it, thank you, great video.
I didn't seem to catch what your mix is of the white and black. What brands and ratios of the black and white did you use, if you don't mind my asking, unless of course your mixes are proprietary.
OMG 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 it’s awesome keep doing b&w!! Mel, this looks like an XRay! I didn't see b4 (watched the video from my phone earlier) but this is AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!!!1
This really is stunning...you have replicated the Hydrodynamic Instability experiment performed by Zetina, Godinez and Zenit: however yours turned out more fabulous in my humble opinion....Thus, for art I give you an A and for science I give you an A....Well done Mely and cheers from Australia...
Cool, classic David Alfaro Siqueiros effect..Isn't it amazing he discovered this technique by accident in the 1930's.... and here we all, are still doing it today.....cool...
Marie caire excellent question. The white Artist Loft on its own got totally lost in my paintings and I needed to find a way to control my result better.
do you add silicone to your mix or paints? You got so many cells and I'm trying to figure out if its becuase of the pouring medium alone or if there is silicone. Beautiful job!
Deirdre Abbotts I've never used silicone and the pouring medium is not used for cells. They appear because of the preperation to the right consistency and the process altogether. :)
You can use it but it is a different product so it will react differently and you will have to practice your ratios depending on brand and color. Just like any product you add to your paint. Good luck!
Can you please do black white and red because I really wanna give it to my daughter for Christmas.. but I'm not sure how to mix the paint 😢 this picture is so beautiful
I use alcohol for cells and without it i get no cells at all. Sometimes i prefer that look but i find it crazy how your paint moves with no additives. Without something making the paint rise up through the other colors, be it evaporation or heat rising etc, how this is happening? Perhaps i should experiment with you preferred paint brand... Edit: I just noticed you thin your paint much more than i do. I wonder if the thinner paint lends itself for more cell production?
urizon41 the cells appear because the heaviest seeps to the bottom and the lightest stays on top after being moved. I'm talking about paint density. You don't need to add anything to the paint for this but rather dilute to the right consistency and use a process including movement. I have a video that explains this better it's called How do cells appear
Do you need to gesso the canvases? I use the same from Micheal’s and I thought they already had gesso on them, but it seems like my paint dries so much lighter I was thinking maybe it is sinking into the canvas.
I love your work - for the life of me though I am not seeing what you are doing that is causing your painting to "blossom' after you walk away from it? No silicone? No decoart? Just paint and Liquitex? Did I miss something because I am not seeing any kind of changes when I am done painting.
May I ask what where you sprinkling of your fingers down on to the canvas when you off to the side just recording the change may I ask what was that I noticed it help give the cell effect
In the painting if you have the black corner facing the top left on the bottom left with the small back space and the grey cells it kinda looks like a baby in an ultrasound picture but the white looks like tree branches.
I'm not a fan of the puddle pours, usually, the patterns most get, are jagged.......Very nice surprise , and you didn't "dink" around with it and you let it be it's own self.....If you sell your creations....this is bound to be a #1 seller!
Sylvie
I like it!! That bottom left corner looks like a babies ultrasound. Wow
turned out ABSOLUTELY beautiful!!!! dont get too down on yourself or think back youre great!!
Ohhhhh I love this. It is the most beautiful pour i have seen.... And only 2 colours...You are the Queen of Pours.
That time lapse was amazing! Beautiful final piece!
Thank you!
I did two black and white paintings the other day and was trying to achieve all the pebble look. I did white on black then black on white. They look great, but no pebble look. I haven't tried the pouring medium you use. I used Floetrol. You got what I wanted!

You did it! Gorgeous contrast, no muck. Your mystery paint is exciting me. Also, I think more pouring medium may also help in other pours for binding. I am excited for you. Awesome! I would have never guessed the end result based on how you started your pour. Really cool indeed! Keep it up
Wow Mely, this one is amazing, love the black and white
Laura Usher thanks Laura :)
Beautiful, but not surprised! Some of your grey resembles brains!
You make it look sooo easy. I adore it...you have inspired me to try it....but it will not look like yours that's for sure. Well done. 👏👏👏👏👌😀
Doesn't matter if it doesn't look like mine. It will look like YOURS and that's even better :)
I like it alot! The cells at the bottom are incredible! They remind me of popcorn bursting out everywhere.
I have been wanting to try just black and white but thought it would be boring. This one u created id awesome....very interesting!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! 😍💜😍💜😍
I'm such a huge fan. Really enjoy your videos. Inspirational
I love working with black and white and all of the shades they produce. I have always liked B&W in my photography too. You should try more! Love this one very much!

Gorgeous!! I love this!!
That looks amazing!
It is Gorgeous !! Love the depth you achieved & the purity of the colors !!
Thank you so much!!
Wow ! it changed so much, though it is GREAT! I loved the way it looked right away it looked 3D with the faint gray on the center cave part.
Wish I could do this with resin! Nice job.
MelyD, have you tried adding PVA

Its awsome
Those are cells. Do you ever use a blow torch right after? It's stunning! Thank you for sharing!
Victoria Bellanova yes they are natural cells. A blow torch is used when you add weird stuff to your paint like silicone or dimethicone. Thank you!
Beautiful!
Excellent!
I didn't seem to catch what your mix is of the white and black. What brands and ratios of the black and white did you use, if you don't mind my asking, unless of course your mixes are proprietary.

beautiful.

Very nice... I do wish we could see some still images here of the final product as not all of us have access to social media sites !!!
orion khan I generally show the dried result in my recent videos
Love it!
That was pretty spectacular to watch. I had to show my husband who of course said something like yours don't do that LOL
Sherry B hahaha ofcourse he said that all our paintings look different :) thanks for showing him and I'm glad you enjoyed it
J’adore! 😍
Merci :)
Cool, classic David Alfaro Siqueiros effect..Isn't it amazing he discovered this technique by accident in the 1930's.... and here we all, are still doing it today.....cool...
Marcus Bosson I know right?! :)
Cool stuff MelyD... gonna try your style in my next workshop. 😊
Stunning
Lovely.! What is the problem with the white you used in the past that compelled you to come up with a new white mix?
Marie caire excellent question. The white Artist Loft on its own got totally lost in my paintings and I needed to find a way to control my result better.
That is cool
I would like to know if you should pre mix the paint an have it in bottles for use any time or would it dry up even if you had a top on it .?
do you add silicone to your mix or paints? You got so many cells and I'm trying to figure out if its becuase of the pouring medium alone or if there is silicone. Beautiful job!
Deirdre Abbotts I've never used silicone and the pouring medium is not used for cells. They appear because of the preperation to the right consistency and the process altogether. :)
I love this so much even before the effects amazing
I received som GAC 800 in the mail do you think I can use that I do not have liquidtex pm
You can use it but it is a different product so it will react differently and you will have to practice your ratios depending on brand and color. Just like any product you add to your paint. Good luck!
MelyD.artist thank you I will 😊
MelyD. in da house !!! Hmmmm...no finger swipe ??? I'm....not only 4 months behind, but appalled at the same time.lol.
Can you please do black white and red because I really wanna give it to my daughter for Christmas.. but I'm not sure how to mix the paint 😢 this picture is so beautiful

Puddle pours are the best fluid painting technique to achieve a more controlled result. Not sure what you mean by jagged.. Thank you!
I meant most I have seen, with some really nice exceptions, is the lines get zig zag......I loved your pour of nice soft rounded creation!
Tout ce que vous faites me plait beaucoup
Merci :)

Haha I won't!
Zero silicone, correct??
Dr. Faith OKelley correct
Did u add silicone
Why would I add silicone?
MelyD.artist I’m new and just learning.
The changes were dramatic.
Love it!
Love it!!!
