Hannah, something that occured to me while watching this is that what can cheer us up (eventually) is often things that just help us feel, that help us un-numb ourselves, like they add some movement into our lives to get "unstuck" and move towards joy. Thank you for sharing

Speaking of playlists, you know what’s great fun? Coming up with a prompt for a playlist and commissioning different friends to make that playlist. Like, make me a playlist of sad songs (interesting how different people interpret “sad” or choose which themes represent sadness) or songs that transport you to a different time or place in your life.
Playlist swapping with friends is one of the things that got me through 2020.

I consistently paint my nails every Sunday!! (as part of self care Sunday - it's a hairwash day, I make sure to journal and eat something extra yummy and nourishing, go to bed early, etc) Nail polish chips on me quite quickly so sometimes I have to take it off halfway through the week, but it's really lovely to sit down every week and take that time
throughout the week I'll be typing or taking notes and look down and my little magpie brain goes 🥰✨nails pretty and fun and shiny 🥰✨

OK, so feel free to ignore my comment, it's just been a while since I hung out with my friend- friends (I hang out with acquaintances, but that's just me cosplaying a socially acceptable version of me) and I need to get stuff of my chest- I am so envious of your self-care Sunday routine. I used to have one and adored it. Actually, when I was at school, I was always looking forward to Mondays because I got to see all my friends again (I didn't really go out during the weekend- wacky parents), so Sundays were filled with good anticipation. But shortly after I got married, my Sundays were no longer mine, due to circumstances I don't want to get into, they now, somewhat, belong to my in-laws. We (me, my husband and son) have lunch at my MIL and FIL's house EVERY Sunday, rain or shine. And I hate it. They are actually lovely people and I like catching up with them regularly, but the almost law-like nature of the Sunday lunches just get to me. My Sunday mornings are spent dreading the whole thing, are afternoons are spent "recovering" from peopleing, and the making sure my son is ready and prepped for his week. So yeah, this comment isn't going anywhere, except to say that I miss just saying: sorry, I can't meet you today, today I'm relaxing and prepping for the week, like I did years ago.

@@zjenci hello! I don’t have a kiddo or in-laws, but I have a pretty stressful job (I’m an EMT) and I do also 100000% understand that feeling of an event taking over your whole day. Sometimes the idea of making myself do the self care stuff feels taxing, and like it’s going to take So Much Energy, and just not worth it. But I found freedom in reminding myself of how good I feel afterwards, and how proud of myself that I had done it, and the positives far outweighed the negatives. Also, no one can decide for you what self-care is! Establishing a daily journal routine has taken me almost my entire life to figure out, but it’s what’s rewarding and important to me. I feel like Hannah’s whole channel is really about finding what beautiful things/activities bring YOU joy, not what corporate marketing has said should make you happy. Also I agree with Lindsey that true self care takes so much courage -but you absolutely DESERVE to take that time. Sending you love!

I remember because I lived in Panama City Beach at the time and went out eight nights/week. And at some point I made a MySpace update about being "hot like [the brave little] toaster"
If you wanted to know the least fun "fun fact" about Flo Rida, here it is: as of May this year, he is actually a Eurovision Song Contest contestant. For San Marino. He and the singer he was doing a duet with made it through to the Grand Final (from the Semi Finals) but came pretty low in the end. Which is kinds fitting, if you ask me. :)
Brian Jordan Alvarez is such a highlight of social media for me. Marnie T, The Naturals, and Rick and Vardy are my favorites, but all of his characters are so good!
The first time I watched BBM, I was crying so hard I was dehydrated by the end and I just restarted the movie as soon as it ended. That is one of two times I've done that in my life. Such a great movie. Ang Lee is a genius and the performances are absolutely iconic.

What a coincidence! Last week my partner and I were trying to figure out a song that was stuck in my head and we ended up dancing to our guesses for hours. It was a real joy and since then I've been dancing by myself in some of my breaks from work, there's nothing like it to clear your mind 😊

Nail polish was like my gateway to makeup. I used to do my nails all the time in high school and even nail art, but it dropped when I got busy in college. Last year, I purchased a Holo Taco set just as the pandemic got rolling and rediscovering my love for nail polish was such a joy. Then, I proceeded to get myself in trouble buying too many of those sets and had to repeat my whole no buy mentality and stop buying nail polish but now I’m okay 😅 I use the Orly bonder base coat and it gives me pretty good longevity!

I grew up in a very isolated part of Wyoming near the Bighorn mountains. That movie (though it wasn’t filmed in Wyoming) got the mood and energy of that area completely right.

I have had a similar journey with my nails and just love painting them the past couple of years. Olive + June has lovely colors and I’m obsessed! I also like J Hannah / there is an orange tone that is my fav.
Hannah, I have a budgeting/purchasing question for you: I'm trying to cut down on my spending. To help with this, I've created several different 'accounts': one for daily expenses, long-term savings, small splurges and long-term happy things. The short version is that I really want to buy an overlocker. I love sewing; I find it really helps my mental health and I find it creatively fulfilling. I also think it will help cut down my urge to purchase new clothes. HOWEVER, they are expensive, and I'm having trouble biting the bullet even though I have money set aside for bigger purchases like this. I'm just having a lot of guilty feelings, but I'm not sure why. I think I'm worried that something bad will happen and I will no longer have that money (even though I have money set aside if that ever happened), or I'll find something better that I want to spend my money on and then I won't be able to. But perhaps what's really happening is my brain is still in that pattern of making me feel guilty, because that's what used to happen when I bought something I couldn't afford or if I overspent. Any advice on how to give myself a break and stop feeling guilty about what would actually be a fulfilling and sensible purchase? So grateful I found you and your channel xx
this is such a good question. The thing that helps me is to remember the wisdom of letting go of control. You can't predict the future! It's true, you might someday wish you still had that money for something else. It's possible. But it's probably more likely that you will love the machine you buy, and then you'll go on to make more money. Because you can't predict the future, it's always a risk to buy something you don't technically "need." But if you're budgeting for splurges, then you are literally setting aside money TO take that exact risk, and the risk is finite because you are protecting your finances in other ways.
I have definitely experienced the same feeling, not knowing if my worries are because of old patterns of guilt in my brain, or if there is something inside me telling me that the purchase is truly unwise. Sometimes I wait a really long time before buying something to try to get clarity on this. But in my experience, being in recovery from overspending means that I sometimes do feel a bit mixed up when I buy something really nice for myself, even when logic dictates that I shouldn't feel mixed up. I try to just accept those feelings and not let them bother me too much, because overall I'm doing so much better than I was before.
This is just my experience, not professional advice :) But I hope it helps!

I’ve sat with it for a few days, reminded myself that this is something I’ve wanted for YEARS, and I purchased it. You’re right - all I can do is make the decision with the information I have right now. And right now, with my circumstances, I think this is what I want. If things change in the future, then that’s ok. I did the best with what I had and knew at the time, and I have to be content with that. Thank you again, so so much xx
@@senaaileigh you might also consider looking for a local sewing shop and see if they have any used models in excellent condition. I assume with the pandemic there might be people in financial binds that sold theirs. You could get your dream item and possibly save a few dollars. They may also have some available for you to try out and see if you love it before purchasing. Best wishes!

Painting my nails is absolutely something I do when I need a little time to myself. I’ll put on a YT video or a podcast and go to town. The process also offers an afterburn for time to myself since I have to wait til they dry 😂

I also started painting my nails on weekends. I got a bunch from Zoeva, I like crunchy glitters, and I don’t really want to look around too much and get overwhelmed, so I’m sticking to that brand for now. I sit down and put a video or show or music videos on my phone, block everyone out, and focus on doing a routine with my nails. And I don’t freak out about my nails chipping away during the week because I know I’ll get to it in the weekend, so I just let them be.
Edit: I took a look at Static nails, I’ll look at it in detail slowly over the next few weeks. I love the soft pink color already.

I looked up apple bottom jeans videos and fell into a rabbit hole (the tool one omg) and found joy. Thank you for sharing. Brokeback Mountain is definitely a master piece. The acting, the photography, the story, the direction... so good. I also love from Ang Lee, the director, Lust and Caution. And if we're talking about love stories my favorite movie is Blue is the Warmest Color. I don't know how many times I've watched it haha. I guess I'm a little bit masochistic cause I cry every time.

During the first year of Covid, I also broke my shoulder and was home for 3 months not working. i became obsessed with nail polish. and yes, I was still able to paint my nails after my shoulder operation. just not that well. nail polishes are not that expensive singularly and are so unique. I got into Polish Pickup where you buy nail polish from independent nail polish makers/artists. It has been so much fun. but highly addicting!

I bought Broke Back Mountain on DVD quite a while back, never took it out or watched it because I knew it was gonna be so sad XD and I was gonna be mad at the ending. I also appreciate those type of "covers" of songs. You can find a whole bunch of modern songs done in medieval folk style, it's really cool. Also I want to recommend Zachariah Porter, he does really good characters from the east coast.

I'm with you on Broke Back Mountain. A Single Man, the film directed by Tom Ford based on the 1964 Christopher Isherwood novel, is another gorgeous, crushing love story that totally wrung me out.
