Good photography, but ..... almost any photographer would get the same results in that situation, she had the perfect setup, all white tent, great for bouncing, and having a helper. I would like to see those flashes and her in a challenging venue, like in an all dark reception with dark ceilings and 400 people, lol. Like the Indian weddings I do, those can be work. Too bad this flash is so expensive.
Especially when she bounces the light off of the clouds outdoors 🙄. I'm buying one, but seriously...it's 26% more than a 600RT. 1 bump in ISO...there ya go.
Prestige Photo thanks for the vote of confidence but I don't do that. If I was shooting with it outside it was acting a just a trigger for my other lights.
People who actually need a $1000 speedlight know who they are. If you’re invested in ProFoto strobes this flash makes perfect sense. Just because people think the price is ridiculous doesn’t diminish that it’s a great product. We can’t all drive a Mercedes some of schlep around in a Kia.
Received a pair of these units this week, amazing, recycle times are fantastic, makes our nikons 910's look like something from the dark ages. works flawlessly with our B2'sand B1's :-)
TK Imagine Studio I own three of the A1s and I’m not sponsored by Profoto. I’m extremely happy with their performance when paired with the D850 and also with the 100MP XF. I haven’t seen any other speedlights out there that can keep up with 9fps and still be able to maintain consistent exposures.
Bold face marketing lie - it may have fast recycle time but the battery doesn't last and its the same power output as the Canon top of the line radio flash - not three!
Vanessa, some of the first words spoken by you in this video is "The power of a strobe in a flash" . What on earth do you mean ?? This thing is only SLIGHTLY more powerful than Canon or Nikon top end speed lights.
Hi Vanessa, thanks for reply. If thats the marketing tag line it is very misleading. Can you honestly tell me that this A1 is better than a canon 600EX-RT? It is a small light source which, unless Profoto have somehow changed the laws of physics , will produce a hard light. Unless of course you are bouncing it as you are doing in the video . Surely the same results can be obtained with any speed light :)) ?? I also understand that it is not even weather sealed ( essential for us wedding photographers in the UK :)) .
I just read this and then splurted out my coffee all over my work keyboard.... 'US retail pricing for the Profoto A1 TTL-C and TTL-N is set at $995'. Yongnuo must be rolling on the floor laughing.... Who in their right mind is going to buy this?
I am curious... 76w brings out how much equivalent? Asking since I've used reflectors that boost my light output more than a stop and probably this might do the same compared to basic speedlights.
Looks great. So all profoto did was just reinvent the wheel. VERY expensive to purchase! Thanks Profoto, but no thanks. I'll stick with my Nikon SB 910's and my trusty old Gary Fong Lightsphere II cloud and clear diffusers. Like someone else said. She takes great photos!
It looks to be a solid flash option, but at that price I can buy three evolv 200.$650 would have been a fair asking. For those with existing profoto system they might consider it, but a tough call for someone not invested in the system.
Can I use the Profoto A1 on my Nikon to simultaneously also fire a Nikon SB700 flash and Altura flash that I am using as slaves elsewhere in the room? Thanks.
I dont see anything this can do that the V860ii cant do. I use the v860ii on top of the camera in ttl mode and have complete control over the AD200's in the same way. With one exception, it has no modeling light and the V860ii has more power and fires 650 full power pops compared to teh 350 of the profoto. But to be fair to Godox, not once in my life have I ever been heard saying "man I wish my speedlight had a modeling light"
here i thought it was more powerful in such a small size and was wondering how they did it and then i read the specs ... back to my godox ad360 and hensel i guess :P
Ok......the cost. Profoto has a reputation for 💰💰💰. I do UNDERSTAND people should pay a bit more for quality and functionality; but, can't justify 3x, 4x, 5x.
One of these compares to 1 Nikon SB-910 (comparable output), one PocketWizard FlexTT5, two SD-9 packs and 24 eneloops, plus a charge system to handle that quantity. Add this up and you can see how Profoto set the price for this A1. Less mess, lighter and more compact. If this had existed two years ago, I would not have bought 10 SB-910 strobes with SD-9, PW and eneloops, nor built a device to charge over 100 eneloops at a time (all to keep the studio mobile and compact - and to have versatility in lighting deep spaces.)
No you don't have "the power of a strobe in a flash" - that's incredibly misleading. This is really no more powerful than a regular speedlight in actual flash power terms. It might have more versatility due to available accessories and functions, but suggesting it is more powerful is really going to confuse people.
If I want to have two photographers at a wedding reception share an off camera flash like another A1 or a b10, will that work? Or will on camera A1 trigger my second photographers on camera A1 as well? I really would like to use this set up if possible?
The power of a strobe in a speed light . It's 75w, it would need to be at least 200w for that claim to be true. Are you one of the RUclips club that were given one for free? On a positive note your photo's are great
Im a wedding photographer, and I can Afford this, but its useless.. I recommend the B1 or the B2 which I use. If you have speedlight you don't need this to be honest.
But if we are Profoto B1 users like you and want something that is easier to bring with us all the time or as an extra fill light? I consider it for the small package cause sometimes I need to move fast and work in smaller spaces where I cant set up my B1 ones or I just feel its too much to carry around. They are expensive though but I hope they update the software and deliver better battery in the future so the ones we buy now can be updated and more powerful in the future and not ony the next generation...:-)
Its not only a flash. Its also a profoto trigger which is normally £350 plus you get a load of modifiers with it. The thing recycles like nothing else and the light quality is crazy. So £850 is reasonable.
It can trigger the rest of the profoto system, it has insane recycling times, the light quality is completely different level than a normal shaped flash......it comes with a variety of mods
$995 for just "1" Speedlight flash?!? One can have the whole remote flash system with similar amount of money... 4 x Flashpoint R2 Speedlights ($720) + 1 eVOLV ($300) = $1020. That's enough light for any location events / indoor studio setup! And similar features that the A1 can do with 4 extra lights!
Vanissa, I'm one of your followers and I'm big fan too But let's be honest and forget about the brand name It looks like an ordinary Speedlite and act like the others specially comparing with the price So let's avoid exaggeration and try to be fair
meroslave so not true on many levels - but my three favs are 1-Ordinary speedlites do not communicate with my profoto lights - a big hole in my system that has now been filled. 2- Ordinary speedlites do NOT have the fast recycle time - so I no longer need to wear an external battery pack around my hip. 3- ordinary speedlites have A TON more misfires than the ZERO I've had with these ensuring that I don't look like a dope that doesn't know how to work her equipment in front of high paying clients - haha yes please!!
Price seems to play a major issue with this flash. I remember when Canon came out with the latest greatest flash, it was, and still can be costly in comparison to there competitors. Granted, this is an expensive investment. As you stated, having this system already, the benefits just might make it worth the investment.
"Ordinary speedlites have A TON more misfires." I have been a photographer for over 25 years working with a variety of speedlites and I was curious what you base that statement on as I have not found that to be the case. Vanessa Joy
Michael Sparks Keegan, I've been photographing weddings for the past seven years, and I've experienced misfires with Nikons (via PocketWizards) and more recently my Godox flashes. I wouldn't say a ton but certainly enough to be frustrating. It's not fun realizing you have severely underexposed images during the introductions, first dance, or bouquet toss because the flash didn't recycle in time or didn't trigger your OCF. I don't know if the A1 is bulletproof, but if it's 95% reliable triggering your lights, then that's a small price to pay for lights you'll use for hours and hours, nearly every weekend for years.
Geese, I hate to be a hater, but everything Joy did with her $1000 gift from Profoto, I did last Saturday with my $500 Canon 600EX RT.... Both brands of speed lites are overpriced, but for $1000 I got TWO speed lights and $550 bought me a killer Flash Point AD600 with remote with I love -at 1/3 the price of a B2?
That's not the thing, you can do a lot with a more basic camera and more basic gear but for a pro it has to be reliable and compared for the needs its meant to fill in the ecosystem of Profoto. The battery last and the recycle time is better and you have a modelling light that works
Why would it matter to say the right thing anyway? 0:34 "at 76 Watt" - WRONG. 76 Watt.seconds energy consumption in 1/800th of a second equals 800 * 76 = 60,800 Watt - yes more than 60 kilo Watts. Which is why this A1, or a Canon 600 or a Nikon SB-910 easily blow a couple thousand Watt lamps away. By the way, 60,800 is only 5 F-stops away from 1,900 Watts of continuous light (abstracting efficiency away here: Watts into the electronics versus lumens out of the tube).
Her photos arent bad, so thats good... But idk if the A1 is realllllly worth that money esp to a professional who has had to get by without these features for years
the "beautiful night time portrait" at 1:52 was horrible. angle was bad and you didn't match the warm background lighting to the flash temp. I would not have been accepting that image.
Do women wedding photographers dress up to shoot a wedding like Vanessa here or is it just for this video? Seems very uncomfortable to be running around in a beautiful dress as a photographer.
It's overpriced. If you can afford it, more power to you. But there are TONS of alternatives that are 1/2 the price. Not to mention, it only sells for two brands... why? 10 years ago it would've been reasonable, now-a-days, you are shooting yourself on the foot.
Half the price? You can get a Godox V860ii for $180 and it has more power than the A1. The Evolv 200 is 1/3 the price and has far more power. This is complete bull shit.
They specified the benefit. It works with other Profoto strobes and can be very flexible on location where you have no time to deal with extra equipment or settings. Example: set 2 strobes in the yard, first take pictures in the tent and move outside and continue shooting with strobes. I can easily see how this can pay off for an event photographer.
You can do all of that with the already existing Godox line-up. You can use an AD360 on top of your camera at 360 watts or a TT685 at gn60 and control AD200s, AD600s, etc through utilizing different groups and channels. The Profoto price doesn't justify features already in existence.
Mike P you missed the point..You could ALREADY do this with Godox (BEFORE the A1 **announcement**). The Godox X1 wireless control system is probably the most complete system there is because it controls MOST of their flashes going back a couple generations. CURRENTLY you can control the Godox AD360IIs, AD200s, or AD600s (all battery operated REAL Strobes) from the Godox V860II or TT685 on camera flashes. Even better you can buy ONE Godox V860II and TWO Godox AD200 for about $1000, which is around the price of ONE Profoto A1...add a MagMod system, which Profoto **borrowed**, and your pretty much have the same thing for MUCH less! Or if you need more power for outdoors you can upgrade to TWO AD600s for about $400 more (non-ttl) or $900 more (with ttl) total). That's a VERY versatile and portable 3 light kit for less than the price of TWO Profoto A1s ($1200 or $1700 respectively). Also remember the x1 system (which is built into the V860II and TT685) can also control Godox's more powerful in-studio (wired) moonlights too.
Over priced just like every other Light they make .... When godox makes the same things as them and is better in many ways and the price is a fraction of the cost... the godox ad600 ttl is cheaper then this flash from prophoto..... Pro Photo needs to learn how to Price better
Powerless and to much $$$. Never a Profoto A1. Japanese or German flashes are better. Clean your attic and find your old Vivitar, Nissin, Metz, Braun, Regula, Fodor, Ewolux, Philips, Novoflex, PK, Unomat, Optatron, Olympus, Canon, Luxon, Agfatronic etc. Maybe you find the flashbulbs of your grandfather: General Electric, Philips, Osram.
Will wait for the godox one .. Better value and will be just as good or better
Too bad this flash is so expensive.
can't see really good wedding photography. I see no no feelings. no flash is able to help there ;)
Especially when she bounces the light off of the clouds outdoors 🙄. I'm buying one, but seriously...it's 26% more than a 600RT. 1 bump in ISO...there ya go.
Prestige Photo thanks for the vote of confidence but I don't do that. If I was shooting with it outside it was acting a just a trigger for my other lights.
In most of the daylight situations there esp in the white marquee she certainly didn't need flash at all! Big sales pitch for overpriced gear!
People who actually need a $1000 speedlight know who they are. If you’re invested in ProFoto strobes this flash makes perfect sense. Just because people think the price is ridiculous doesn’t diminish that it’s a great product. We can’t all drive a Mercedes some of schlep around in a Kia.

I think that is very true but is the result and the quality of light better?..:-)
It does not have "the power of a strobe".
It has the power of an ordinary speedlight.
Even small strobes are typically about four times more powerful.
Yeah, I thought that was a pretty bold claim. I haven't looked at the numbers yet though.
TK Imagine Studio
I own three of the A1s and I’m not sponsored by Profoto. I’m extremely happy with their performance when paired with the D850 and also with the 100MP XF. I haven’t seen any other speedlights out there that can keep up with 9fps and still be able to maintain consistent exposures.

Very very expensive compared to its output
Vanessa, some of the first words spoken by you in this video is "The power of a strobe in a flash" . What on earth do you mean ?? This thing is only SLIGHTLY more powerful than Canon or Nikon top end speed lights.
PJL Photography that's the tag line for the product :) by its not about light output power alone, it's about functionality as well
Hi Vanessa, thanks for reply. If thats the marketing tag line it is very misleading. Can you honestly tell me that this A1 is better than a canon 600EX-RT? fallyhag bxm
people that want a reliable system thats not going to fail on them like yungnuo or godox will
I am curious... 76w brings out how much equivalent? Asking since I've used reflectors that boost my light output more than a stop and probably this might do the same compared to basic speedlights.
illl wait for the Godox version :)
I agree. I can't wait for Godox to make a knock off of this strobe.
No need to wait: AD200 or on camera V860
lol
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Godox flashes already have TTL, HSS and can control all other Godox OCF lights. Apart from the round shape there's no difference.
She takes great photos!
plz tell me how you shot this video , its so clear and amazing
It looks to be a solid flash option, but at that price I can buy three evolv 200.$650 would have been a fair asking.

Can I use the Profoto A1 on my Nikon to simultaneously also fire a Nikon SB700 flash and Altura flash that I am using as slaves elsewhere in the room? Thanks.
Nice but Ill take 6 cheap flashes and a trigger set.
GODOX - Please copy this and make one affordable one !
I dont see anything this can do that the V860ii cant do. I use the v860ii on top of the camera in ttl mode and have complete control over the AD200's in the same way. Ankur Tripathi Productions godox just released the godox v1
What are the down fails if I put it on a Samsung, Sony, M43 or Pentax camera? Will I still have TTL?
Classy👌👌👌👌🔥🔥🔥✌️✌️
These profoto flashes are amazing but 500-1,000 minimum...no thanks. These photographers must have a trust fund or sponsors who love their work
Look at the Godox AD200 als better alternative (200Ws). And for a third of the price. Love my AD200. On camera: Godox V860 the best option
I got the A1 and I love it.
AD200 is much bigger??
Hi I was just wondering if you’ve seen that brand new flash Canon has came out with the head on this flash is motorized
here i thought it was more powerful in such a small size and was wondering how they did it and then i read the specs ...
back to my godox ad360 and hensel i guess :P
Ok......the cost. Profoto has a reputation for 💰💰💰. I do UNDERSTAND people should pay a bit more for quality and functionality; but, can't justify 3x, 4x, 5x.
why would I want this? How does it differ from my normal flash with 60GN
I like it but i like the profoto B2 more. Two A1´s, would be 2000, and 1 B2 with two heads is 2500 for twice the power.
One of these compares to 1 Nikon SB-910 (comparable output), one PocketWizard FlexTT5, two SD-9 packs and 24 eneloops, plus a charge system to handle that quantity. Profoto or speedlite is better
Good to know than you miss 🤗

It might have more versatility due to available accessories and functions, but suggesting it is more powerful is really going to confuse people.
Welcome to marketing and advertising. It's never mean to be truthful...
But isn't it more powerful than a normal speedlight in the sense that the battery last much longer than a normal flash and it recycles much faster??
It doesn’t have the power of a strobe... very misleading
Using a lens without a hood ?
Will this work only on full-frame or could I mount this on my Panasonic GH5?
May I know what lens are you using in this shoot.?
Hey
Thanks for the explanation.
Coincidentally, I see your video on New Year's Day, which calls exactly for your tattoo.
זהבית דהן haha nice
I am considering buying one but this flash costs more than my camera and lens combined.
Excellent
Does it fit the B1 modifiers?
Proprietary battery, never mind the price, light is light, Yongnuo + Selens ftw
If I want to have two photographers at a wedding reception share an off camera flash like another A1 or a b10, will that work? Or will on camera A1 trigger my second photographers on camera A1 as well? I really would like to use this set up if possible?
Josh Ayres yes if they’re set to the same channel :)
Too expensive instead I got godox v1 with kit
how is this a game changing unit while shooting a wedding?
hiiii
which camera u are using for these photography
The power of a strobe in a speed light . It's 75w, it would need to be at least 200w for that claim to be true. Are you one of the RUclips club that were given one for free? On a positive note your photo's are great
GOOD ONE
Wow..thats amazing..
A bit of a bad joke to be fair, 70ws is no different to the standard flashguns, but working to a much higher price, like always with profoto.
"inspired" by magmod.
exactly the same what i'm thinking~~^^
Zac arias confirms.
What lens is she using???
Im a wedding photographer, and I can Afford this, but its useless.. I recommend the B1 or the B2 which I use. If you have speedlight you don't need this to be honest.

cuál es el precio del A1
😂😂😂 $1,000 for a 76ws flash. haha! Is this a joke?
photographers who have loads of cash buy it for its name
Its not only a flash. Its also a profoto trigger which is normally £350 plus you get a load of modifiers with it. The thing recycles like nothing else and the light quality is crazy. So £850 is reasonable.
It's Pro foto what did you expect? Yeah, it's no better than a typical flash
No, the battery or lack there of is the real joke.
I will stick to my 4 wireless Sony strobes.
Can someone explain to me what this over priced 'speedlight' can do that a Canon 600Ex Mk2 can't ????
it has better battery & better design
It can trigger the rest of the profoto system, it has insane recycling times, the light quality is completely different level than a normal shaped flash......it comes with a variety of mods

nice

Good
Her photos arent bad, so thats good...

the "beautiful night time portrait" at 1:52 was horrible. angle was bad and you didn't match the warm background lighting to the flash temp. I would not have been accepting that image.
perfect for everyone who wants to pay more as necessary
every one talking about the hi price, so the Ferrari is expensive, not anything are meant to be for anyone...
Color temperature consistency at +/- 150K gives a range of 300K potential difference between shots. Not exciting. Another brand would do +/-50K
To my experience it is absolutely ridiculous to spend so much money on profoto lights because the batteries are so unreliable.
2.000,00 US in Brazil.. kkkkk very, very.. very.. very... expensive!!
Hi how are you
$1000 for a flash???!!!! Woow I mean, this thing looks fun to use but please, that's a little bit high.
Godox and magmod inspired lol
Never heard of magmod and just checked it out. That looks like a pretty sweet set-up. Thanks!

Also remember the x1 system (which is built into the V860II and TT685) can also control Godox's more powerful in-studio (wired) moonlights too.
try using one and then making a comment
$1000 .. for 75ws .. never
All these pro photographers must have hand, forearm and shoulder tendonitis for sure;-) Oh wait what was that they where advertising????
Christos Serrano Thoma haha it's actually common - but if you hold the camera correctly you minimize a lot of

This shit costs too much money! wtf?
900€ ridiculous.Godox rules!
Rubbish ProFoto, bad move
Looks like Godox Knockoffs
A lot of money cost !!!!
Clean your attic and find your old Vivitar,
Nissin, Metz, Braun, Regula, Fodor, Ewolux, Philips, Novoflex, PK, Unomat,
Optatron, Olympus, Canon, Luxon, Agfatronic etc.
Maybe you find the flashbulbs of your grandfather: General Electric, Philips, Osram.
All the images taken by Profoto photographers look exactly the same. Am I the only one that thinks this?
