Just got the filters. They are really great and as you say - Freewell filters have a great build quality. Now I've have to get out and try them all out!
YES! Just the video I wanted to watch as UPS approaches my address with these filters! Awesome video Jake. Thorough with great explanations and examples but concise without fluff.
Great video on ND Filters for M3 Pro, thanks! I really need to learn more about how/ when to use them. Your pic with the blurred running water and crisp clear green grass surrounding is very impressive for a mini drone camera.
thanks! it does take a bit of practice but you can get some really cool effects out of these little drones. I'll have more videos coming out about it in the future
Thanks Jake! I have been waiting for polar pro to release a larger set of nd filters for the mini 3 Pro. I have never used freewell filters. How do they compare?
They are very close, Polar pro still edges out freewell a tiny bit, polar pro tends toward green while freewell tends toward purple in the hues, I will say my Freewell filters have withstood abuse that my polar pro filters have ended up with scratches after
I currently don't have the full set available and can only order them one piece at a time. Which one would you recommend? Judging from what I've read and seen so far the ND64 is a pretty good bet, is that right?
I was wondering why Freewell had such powerful ND, until you mentioned the f1.7 aperture on the Mini. In my case, with the Air2S, with f2.8, the Flymore kit includes DJI's 3 filter ND kit, 8, 16,and 32. I use Haida 4x4 ND filters with my cameras, so when Haida announced Air2s ND's I jumped at it. It took forever to find them anywhere but a Chinese eBay site until recently, but I finally received them. In theory, sticking with the same brand for your camera and drone filters should give close to the same look, again, in theory. I've yet to confirm it, but hopeful so I can match drone and camera shots easier than I can with the DJI filters. One possible downside is that they're combo ND/Pol filters, which can make the video look very weird when moving in multiple angles to the sun. And Tiffen just announced Mini Pro ND filters too.
I use filters all the time and have been waiting for the Freewell Mini3 filters to become available. Now they are so I bought them through your affiliate link (you're welcome 😁). Thanks for the review and the continuing education.
I set up my drone with the iso at 100 and the shutter speed at 2x my frame rate and then get the darkest nD filter I can while keeping my exposure close to correct
Thanks to your advice and the advice of others not only did I save money well I got also purchase the appropriate ND filter. Worst case scenario you just increase the iso to 200 and it still looks pretty darn good. Nd64 is probably good for overcast days
Thanks 🙏🏼. But honestly do you think the filters are not too bright and the number too low compared to the DJI filters? ND 4 or 8 or 16 aren’t too bright and useless? Thanks 😊
The thing that really bothers me and that no one brings up in these videos is that you can't close the case when you put the original piece in the case. So you take of the original piece, swap it with these filters, put the original piece in the freewell case and you can't close the case. What the hell? AND! It's so small so it's almost impossible not to smudge the filters if you have bigger hands.
What about weight? The mini 3 is really close to 249 grams. Do these risk putting it over and forcing registration? The polarized filters are 1.1 grams and the others are .7 according to freewell. I'm guessing, but I'd think that the polarized filters could be too heavy depending on the specific drone and scale.
The drone is actually a few grams under and you remove the default lens hood and replace it with the nD filter so you are still under 249 with the regular and cp filters
Amazing video thanks! Love that explained ND filters so well! Which filter would you recommend for filming at the beach on a sunny day - the polarizing one? Is there a number like 16 or 32 that you would recommend - what is difference of 16 vs 32 polarized? Thanks!
Howdy. A bit of confusion for this newbie: for drone video, since the new DJI Mini 3 lens is a f1.7 and the older Mini 2 is a f2.8, does it stand to reason that I should double the ND filter number for a given shot? e.g. using a 128 filter in bright sun on the Mini 3, instead of the 64 I used to use on the Mini 2? If so, any recommendations on which ND filter kit will best suit the Mini 3? Thanks!
It’s pretty close to double yes but I find nD 64 works in most cases sometimes I have to raise the shutter to 1/80 to get the correct exposure. This nD filter kit from freewell is just about perfect
Getting Polar Pro's fx Kit -Mist 1/4, Gold & Blue "Morphic", + a conventional ND set. Somewhat expensive for drone use, I have a few for the Mavic 3. Much more affordable in "mini-size" 😆
Hey Jake from Calgary...just SE of you! Great explanation...question though, which do you prefer out of these sets, the polarizing set or the standard ND set? I've read sometimes that polarizing sets aren't as good quality or a pain to keep twisting the dial etc.
They are great quality but yes every time you change your direction relative to the sun you would need to adjust the polarization of the filter. Regular ND filters are best for overall filming
Thanks a lot Jake! Considering the 1.7 fixed aperture, do you think the ND 1000 is enough to cover all of the time lapses one wants to take or does it leave out several types? From your experience, on a normal bright day, what is the maximum you could go down with the shutter speed while mounting the ND 1000? Thanks!
@@JakeSloan Lastly can I use them in Auto, Or will I still see a positive difference that’s worth buying? New to all the camera settings, so I know it will take time to learn in pro but in the meantime I would love to be able to use in auto and get better quality videos
@@chrisgates2047yes you can use them in auto. In fact I recommend using Auto white balance when using these filters because I noticed that normally without a filter it would be around 5600k but with the filter on it's registering around 6,500
Hey, awesome video thank you very much for the upload. Just purchased a M3P and will be getting this shortly.. But I have one question, how did you capture the screen output of the RC? Curious as I also have the RC and sometimes like to screen record for post review. Tia and keep up the cool content!
As a newbie to this hobby, (my Mini 3 arrives in a few weeks) what ND would you suggest if I just wanted to get to the point of eliminating jittering, but have less motion blur? On bright days of course.
QUESTION. Hey, Jake. I could see what's sometimes called opposition surgery or a glory @2:08 when you were orbiting yourself. I looked it up an now know what it is. Could you do a short video on the optical phenomenon, and how to keep it at bay, outside of the standard answer: "don't fly with the sun behind you" - since most of Amateur photographers/aerial photographers generally TRY TO keep the sun behind us. Except when we are going for that Evo 2 Pro lens flare I mentioned, like here: ruclips.net/video/WINV9kQhRiU/видео.html
Great video, but I disagree. Maybe it's just preference, but I despise motion blur. I think its only normal to us because cameras weren't capable before.
I cannot recommend these filters. They produce nasty greenish reflections in the footage, especially when facing the sun during sunset or rise. Part of the image is reflected upside down and this reflection moves in opposite direction of the drone movement. The footage becomes unusable.
Just got the filters. They are really great and as you say - Freewell filters have a great build quality. Now I've have to get out and try them all out!

Great Video Jake, really crisp and detailed video within 6 minutes.
Thanks
Great tutorial and concise too. I just got MP 3 after 4 years flying Mavic Pros and hope I can replace them with Mini 3
Awesome!!
Thats a great film for explaining the use of these ND filters. Short and straight to the point. Thanks. Just subbed :)

Where do you keep the plastic when you put a filter instead of it? Does it fit freewell’s box?
Unfortunately it doesn’t fit so I keep it in a pocket in my bag
@@JakeSloan I have just received the package and ND 1000’s spot is carved out so it fits. Iz seems they noticed it in the meantime.
Good video and information Jake.
Thank you
Do ND filters improve videos shot in auto mode or are they only worth using with manual settings?
They do but you will always get the best results using manual mode!
4-64 are pretty useless for a bright day. I had to return them after trying this pack... 128 is the minimum for Mini 3 Pro on a bright day.
agreed and I have told freewell that
Thanks to your advice and the advice of others not only did I save money well I got also purchase the appropriate ND filter. Worst case scenario you just increase the iso to 200 and it still looks pretty darn good.
