As someone who has been in the sailing world for 50 years I have to tell you that having no drop boards for your companion way, on an ocean crossing, is quite alarming! Please please find some wood to make some while you're in F.P. If your cockpit gets swamped while in heavy seas it can, and will, sink your boat! May Neptune keep you safe, good luck on your journey ✌️&❤
Enjoyed your video, like the guy above says make getting wash boards a priority! Also make a way to hold them down so they can't slide out. The water in your boat will quickly effect form stability as it slops about.
As I get older, I have regrets about living such a regimented and relatively non-adventurous life. So I find myself intrigued by adventures of others, like yours, because I love the sea. I also love hiking so I follow Appalachian Trail thru hikers. I follow a young lady who is a vagabond traveling the world. It's wonderful to see young people living their dreams 💙⛵️🐦
I’ve got to say this is one of the most candid, engaging and relatable accounts of a Pacific crossing that I’ve seen. As a live aboard and life-long ocean sailor, there are plenty of things I could criticise about your methods but you did it. And nobody can take that achievement away from you. Give yourself a pat on the back if you haven’t already. Truly in the age old spirit of adventure that goes with such a passage.
Using a captain morgan bottle to flatten your dough is such a vibe. I love it! I want to also say that it's been really amazing to watch you both on instagram and youtube. It has been so interesting to hear your reflections and realizations while in isolation and to see the way you can adapt to so many challenges. Keep at it! I am so excited to see the moment you touch land at the other side of the world :)
WOW... Your fun to watch.. Your rawness is beautiful. Love the singing. And yes I would think that crossing the pacific is super challenging. As someone who's spiritual path leads me to spend most of my life alone, I sympathise!!! it takes some getting used too!!! Home Ec - cooking, sewing and general house wife jobs HA... I cant believe that you put that sail up in the dark, that takes guts!!! What an incredibly beautiful sunset!!! thanks for sharing!!!
@@Sailing_Songbird And I am guessing when you dont have an alarm only the wind and weather to regulate your sleeping and you're your own boss, its alot easier, OH and that magnificient sunset! Man I miss the blue waters of the ocean sometimes... Im getting my fix vicariously though you.. HA Thanks!!
Been following you since day 1 on your adventure, I was worried sick when you went off the grid. Thank heavens everything came out to well and now we can see what happened in those days. While you felt alone there was a whole community rooting for you. Thank you for sharing and inspiring us into being brave to pursue our dreams. Fortune favors the bold

I've been following your journey on IG and like the longer form here. As someone who's ridden a ship (military) around the world I appreciate how prepared you've prepared yourself and respecting your catch.
Fantastic journey, love the natural and very honest style of your discussions with yourself, it really shows us how it must be to do a journey like this alone. Thank you for sharing it all with us.
Been following your adventures on tiktok since the beginning, got real worried when you didn't post for a while until you made it to french polynesia and were able to start posting again. Looking forward to more updates on your journeys! I grew up sailing in the pacific waters around Vancouver Island, the San Juans, and up to the Queen Charlottes, and you're living a lifelong dream of mine. Some day I'll make it happen, but until then I get a lot of happy feelings seeing you doing it. Allons y, songbird!
I’m not watching these in order but I love everything you’ve shared! In particular all the fish you catch and how you feel (bad) about killing them but how grateful you are for them and the seasonings you use, made me hungry!! Oh yeah and love the classical music 🎶
What an amazing video, so interesting to hear the mental challenges you went through. It really allows for a better understanding of how great of a journey it is. For someone who gets seasickness really easily, I'm living the dream of sailing the ocean vicariously through you.
Wow you rock man. I really enjoy your journey and you are full of humor and good spirits. Looking forward to see you on your adventures trip around the blue marble, our world. Hope you will have always a steady wind in your sails and 3 feed water under your keel

In Toronto's early 80's our home ec class had cooking , sewing and welding . I can cook ( thank heaven's ) and sew still but would like to try some welding . Great videos Luke ! Keep up the hard work . Salud !
I live in Germany and home ec isn’t really a thing here. Some schools offer after-school activities like cooking though. But that really depends on the school and the teachers teaching there. All I ever did was a sewing class as an after-school activity (: I guess in Germany things like cooking, sewing and so on are often just considered as hobbies and in Germany your hobbies always take place outside of school (e.g. when you do a sport you just join a team that is close to your city). But I remember that in my exchange year in the US I also didn’t take home ec because my exchange student thought that it was unnecessary and funny as you don’t really learn anything. I really enjoy watching you videos and especially following you on Instagram! Your videos are very inspiring to me and they give me wanderlust (funny, because wanderlust is a German word) 😌🌞
I follow you on tiktok, Love your singing. When you were talking about your emotions at 15:00, How did you feel when you over came that particular challenge. Your description in primitive was interesting and I relate on a day to day, it blows and I'm not even doing journey's like this on my own Lol. Also if case if anyone has said anything I am super proud of you!! :D You did it !
Thanks for your question. In truth, I'm not sure I actually have overcome the challenge of managing my emotions on passage. I get really raw and my emotions swing hard. I suppose that I just allow myself to swing and to never lose sight of the fact that emotions flow as water flows. If you block water from flowing, that is when pressure builds. Allow your emotions to flow freely, good and bad, and it's difficult for the pressure to rise. Idk, just my two cents.
Do you not have companionway boards or just don't have them in? Not having a way to seal your cabin is a good way to get flooded. A big wave over the transom can fill your boat very quickly.
I do have companionway boards but I don't think I've had them in since I left the US. The cockpit on the Vancouver 27 is incredibly small for the size of the boat for this very reason. It would take a CONSIDERABLY large wave to cause me to flood due to this design. On this Pacific passage, the seas never got large enough for me to have to consider this scenario. If I ever get the idea to sail the Southern Ocean, sealing my companionway will be something to keep in mind.
First i thought, no harness, a little risky. Then loose outboard taking up half the cockpit, pretty dangerous. But a 6 square foot hole in your boat that you seal with a pilfered towel, WTF? That is a death wish. You got very lucky. Otherwise, ive really enjoyed your 2 videos, thank you.
Not quite sure what you are referring to? My companionway I think? After a full year of sailing and about 10,000 miles I've never once had a wave come into the cockpit, let alone the cabin. Even when I rode 30ft seas for 6 days in the North Pacific. I don't really consider this a risk as the Vancouver 27 was designed with a very small cockpit to limit the risk of a single wave somehow sinking the boat. I have friends that have taken rouge waves into the cabins and they have never expressed a concern with there being so much water that they could sink.
How many cameras do you use, and are they GoPro’s? I’m amazed you have such great footage considering you have to concentrate on sailing. When and how do you do the edits? Safe journeys! I’m loving these longer episodes!

Great question! My self steering windvane keeps me on course as long as the wind direction doesn't shift. If the wind direction does shift, then I can fall off course and I wake up a few miles off course. But, in a ~3000 mile passage, a few miles off course is inconsequential.
