Sailing Songbird
Добавлен 17 апр 2024
My name is Luke and I am setting out to circumnavigate our beautiful planet onboard my 1976 Vancouver 27, SV Songbird.
Last year, I was a middle school music teacher in the central district of Seattle and had the dream to sail around the world. In March of 2023, I decided I would quit after the school year to fulfill this dream. After the decision was made, I went to see a boat for sale the next week and, not knowing anything about boats, I bought it on the spot. Thus SV Songbird was born. I immediately hauled Songbird out and began a 7 month refit, teaching all day and refitting all night.
After completing my contract for the 2022-23 school year, I set off for Mexico, learning how to sail along the way. After 6 months of exploring Mexico, I set off across the Pacific by myself. After 49 days alone, I have dropped anchor in the South Pacific. Time to explore!
Join me as I live out my dream! I hope that I can inspire you along the way!
Much love

Grocery Shopping on a Remote Archipelago in French Polynesia | Ep. 6
In this episode, I set off to explore the breathtaking island of Nuku Hiva! It’s not every day you find yourself grocery shopping in such an amazing setting, and I couldn’t resist grabbing an Orangina - a drink that brings back memories of visiting family in Germany as a kid. After stocking up, I rented a car to uncover the beauty and wild spirit of the island. From jaw-dropping mountain views to a surprising traffic jam of wild horses, Nuku Hiva didn’t disappoint. I trekked through the muddy trails to see the lush landscape up close and took in the natural wonders of this remote paradise. Come along for the ride as I discover what this incredible island has to offer. Thanks for being par...

First Steps on Land After Seven Weeks at Sea | Exploring Beautiful Nuku Hiva | Ep. 5
Просмотров 6 тыс.28 дней назад
After 7 weeks on the open ocean, there's nothing quite like setting foot on land again! The feel of solid ground under my feet feels surreal and so grounding. Arriving in the Marquesas has been worth every mile - these islands are some of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, with towering green peaks, turquoise waters, and a sense of untouched wilderness that’s rare to find. The journey he...

Stranded in the Pacific: No wind, No Engine - A Thousand miles from Shore | Day 27-46 Ep. 3

Honestly, I spent a lot of time before this passage dreading the doldrums but after being adrift there for two weeks, I realized how realistic it would be to live here for an extended period of time. I had an unlimited source of water, as it rained every day, as well as an unlimited source of protein, courtesy of the Mahi Mahi. These are some of my favorite memories from my Pacific Passage. Broken Comms and a Blown Out Sail | Alone Across the Pacific | Day 6-25 Ep. 2

Now I see what I really signed up for when I got the crazy idea to sail across the Pacific. This will be the most isolation I’ve ever experienced in my life now that I’ve lost the internet access I was relying on to keep me sane. From here on out, I’ll be totally alone, sailing without any contact with the outside world… Follow My Journey On All Socials: Instagram: sailing_songbir...

49 Days ALONE at Sea: Solo Sailing the Pacific with No Engine Thank you so much for tuning in to the very first episode of my adventure around our globe. After struggling through the pandemic in Seattle as an under supported middle school music teacher, my windowless classroom left me depressed and depleted. I knew I need a change and decided to put my health first. I listened to the deepest ye...

Brother, I just discovered your channel recently and am hooked. Your editing of these videos is spot on considering what you have as resources. Koodos 🤟🏻
this is the best youtube series I think I have ever seen. Just wow, no words to describe the adventure you take us through. Thank you so much for sharing your travels.
You have completely reinspired something inside me that I have let be dormant from the everyday grind and hustle of life. Awesome time to join you on an adventure through these documentaries. Watching from Fayetteville, Arkansas in the United States
Bro. You're kind of a lunatic, but loving the channel so far. Watched 3 videos and just subscribed. Keep up the madness!
I’m not really sure if I have a crush on you, (don’t tell my wife!) I want to adopt you, (I’m old enough) or if I just want to create parenthetical statements in your RUclips comments, (I’m pretty good at them) but I am sure that I’m living my upcoming mid-life crisis vicariously through you, and I’m really enjoying it. Keep up the good work. You’ve inspired this middle school teacher of 15 years to follow his dreams no matter how small they are. Oh, believe me, They’re really small, but so very significant. I really appreciate your goal of traveling without burning fuel. Kudos.
Stay lucky dude
At some point you'll have to start eating the fish raw.
I'm really loving your videos you're an absolute doll 💗
New subscribe
Loving your channel. I dont know how to swim and afraid not to touch the ground but you make it seem like it's not too bad. 😂 please keep uplaoding videos. Love learning and seeing what you are up to.
I've been told not to play with my food, but nobody ever told me not to make friends with my food. You have inspired me yet again. 🤣❤
Liked, already subscribed, clicked the bell. Been googling Nuku Hiva, Cook Islands, French Polynesia... You are living the dream!
That was an epic adventure! I would have been really stressed watching these videos if I didn't know you had to have made it back safely to be able to post them. Congratulations!
Are you alive like rn?
Luke is alive and well! Currently, he is on a 2-week sail without service, and is enjoying a well deserved break from social media :)
I can relate in so many ways! I too took 49 days to cross on a 30’ Halberg Rassy by the way of the wind, and a lot of drifting!😂 Great morale overall, love your perspective on life! Your intro and videos have such a fresh style!
He's tapping Steph for sure...
My son recommended your videos. What fun!! Enjoying this from Portland.
Tattoo??? Tattoos are a grotesque example of a weak mind and very small sense of self esteem. No, tattoos. Ever.
commenting for the algorithm <3 Also I'm from western Oregon. :) Newberg is a cool town.
Just found the channel superb content, on a side note....the passport photo you took makes you look like an NPC from Skyrim! No disrespect intended Also you have a banging singing voice.
So I was thinking about you saying you’re scared of sharks and have never seen one and then noticed your location is pretty close to the white shark cafe location where all the adult great white sharks meet up 💀
Wow great video, cant wait for a next episode 👏
True adventurer
You’re an inspiration dude. Love watching these
Best channel on RUclips, please keep dropping these !!!
That seems like a very unnecessary risk but as long as you understand the consequences.
Love what you’re doing here big dog
Baguette as a tripod? Super cool! ✨
“ I’m not going to use any fossil fuel”,,,on day 2 you ran too it😝😝
Amazing scenery
Damn man. this is like if someone sliced open my head and made a youtube video with exactly what I want. nice moves, nice music, nice video. :)
Luke, I discovered you a few days ago and must say I have really enjoyed your adventure. That fish that you cook looks mighty good. Please give some details on the engine problem and can you get it repaired in French Polynesia? Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks for following along! I have rebuilt my engine twice already and it’s broken in new ways each time. I’m ready for a new one once I get to New Zealand.
Amazing watching your adventures from near Oxford in England. Pure escapism, but I don't think I could cope with being on my own in the middle of the ocean. Watching you on your paddleboard, what seems to me, quite a long way from your boat gives me the wobbles. Also, how have you learnt to sleep while travelling at night? I'd always be worried about hitting something. Keep it up, love watching your travels.
