When you live in a state where no one talks about Covid and then travel to one where people are still clinging to it like it's the only thing going on in the world, it's pretty insane.
After a year of near-house-arrest for my whole family up in New England, we moved to FL. Our first night, we went to a restaurant. We must've looked insane. All huddled together like "Is this okay? Are we allowed to be here? Are you going to tell us our 4-year-old needs a mask?" After a year since of life in Florida, we went back to visit. A gas station attendant inside at the counter told me I had to put on a mask if I wanted to buy pizza. I said no thanks and left, and he and the other cashiers looked at me walking out like *I was the crazy one.*
Yep. We only encounter Liberals at work. Everywhere else is Conservative, and we live in the Willamette Valley, even. Those enemy lines are just so big headed and vocal, reinforced by gerrymandering and mail in voting.

My wife and I are visiting Nashville and heading back to Oregon today. Amazingly we got to see John in the 12 South Neighborhood. My wife is a huge fan and he was super gracious to chat and let us take a photo! Super good dude!
Some people’s political beliefs supersede any evidence to the contrary in favor of them “feeling like they are never wrong”. Portland is a prime example of this phenomenon.
We've encouraged people to have very strong opinions on issues, while discouraging them from having very strong knowledge on those issues. They'll repeat one single out of context, or completely fabricated, sentence as support for their strong opinion.

The one in the balcony where we were didn't care about masks but on the ground floor there was a lady who would walk down the rows to get to the one person who's mask had slid beneath his nose. You can hear John react the first time in his routine when he says, "Really lady?" But then later when he is addressing the pastor directly the lady walks right up and interrupts their conversation to tell the pastor to pull up his mask. I thought there was going to be a riot right then and there in the theater 😅. John reined us in tho!
As a native, yes, they've got Christians in Eugene! A lot of non-Christians there are spiritualists (of various kinds), so some are receptive to the Gospel.
In Eugene in the 90s, at least, there were two Christian colleges and one small Clasdic books school (which seemed Christian, maybe), plus lots of churches. I walked to went to First Baptist downtown from one of those colleges. We did homeless ministry, hosted an Indonesian church in our college chapel, etc. Had some great, challeging Christian teaching. Yes, Oregon/Washington may be behind enemy lines relative to John's neck of the woods, but it's *really* not. It's still America! And, anti-Christian policies and notions are spreading all over the country, sadly.
