    Thank you for your patience guys. For this video I really wanted to do it right and play the game a lot, unlock a lot of the weapons, and play around with builds before I gave my thoughts on the matter. I know this is a video that's going to have strong opinions from people, so please go easy on me.
    So what's next for this channel? Builds? More solo stealth? Challenges? All of them? Yeah, expect all of them.
    I also realized I didn't groom myself before this video. Then again I haven't done a good job of taking care of myself ever since this game came out . . .

      It's almost impossible to build a dialog system like it was in PD:TH because PD3 already has 6 heisters and you never know which of them are gonna be used by players. The amount of recording sessions for actors tends to infinity because they have to do all acting for every heist and every moment with all 6 heisters (for now). And they are gonna release more heisters. This is the only reason why we don't have these interactions between characters. And this is one of the reasons why I think that 4 original heisters was always enough, I don't care about other 20 heisters in PD2 and don't care if they release more in PD3, fuck all these Jiros, Jackets, Clovers etc. I have the best heisters in the world with recognisable masks and names, with amazing personalities and stories.

    Something minor that just really bothers me is not seeing the value of loot bags as you score them, or cash pick ups as you grab them. It was satisfying seeing just how much grabbing a loot bag was worth, or seeing just how much one more safe deposit box was worth. For a more practical gameplay point, the first time I played No Rest for the Wicked, about a third of the dye packs went off in the cash stacks. I could still steal them, but I had no idea if they were worth stealing, because I didn't know if, or how much less they were worth than the regular cash loot bags.

      Exact same, I was doing maskless and to add a further layer to it, I'm not sure if a leaky bag would get you caught as well, so you have something with unknown risk and unknown reward when you're right at the end of a heist that's remarkably tedious/finicky to do on Overkill and could take 10-30 minutes (especially if you just brute force the numberpad)

    • @chickencurry420
      @chickencurry420 7 месяцев назад +10

      One thing that really disappoints me about looting is that your character doesn't even move their hand anymore. Small elements like that and the screen tilt when carrying a bag are what made PD2 so unique and inspired. As someone who already loves small details in video games, that's what fueled my "love at first sight" moment when I tried Payday 2.
      On screen values are important too but the animation is what made the looting feel so much more satisfying than any UI element ever could in my opinion. I love gathering all the loot in one spot, seeing a pile of cash slowly disappear as my character's hands frantically snatch at things like a real robber would. That's the good shit.
      That's the "makes you feel like you're Batman" for Payday.

    Another issue with the heists, and particularly their replayability, is how static they are. On your first playthrough, these heists look awesome and dynamic. Once you play them a few times though, you learn the tricks of the game, and stealth basically becomes a test of how much you can push the mechanics of the game or how patient you're willing to be.
    I can see this in your gameplay too, especially on Rock The Cradle - you go around the right side, make noise leaving the secure area, the guards leave the door and you sneak in. There's nothing preventing you from doing that over and over again the next heist.
    That's also without mentioning how easy it is to cheese a heist. Just get whatever code you need, restart, it sticks with you, alongside the particular locations of keycards, rooms, etc.
    There is no dynamicness to the heists. There's no RNG. Once you know the best way, it's a cakewalk.

    The thing i kinda dont like about this game is how it doesnt really feel like a heisting game.
    In other games you have everyone in a specific role who needs to do a specific thing to contribute to the heist. Payday 2 has this because certain skills make you better at certain things (drill skills, saw skills, inspire builds, etc.). This is what makes a game feel like a heist, because every team member has their own role to play and it tends to be a big role.
    In payday 3 though, the roles are kinda dumbed down to "whos bringing ammo, whos bringing armor, whos bringing medbags" because everyone is good at every task, you dont have a designated drill guy because you dont need one. You dont have a designated healer because you dont need one. You dont have to bring someone with big firepower because everyone has the same firepower. I can keep going on.

    • @TheDoc377
      @TheDoc377 8 месяцев назад +6

      Well, Payday 2 certainly allowed for more diversification, but you didn't NEED it. I've played plenty of Death Wish/Sentence games where everyone just ran Inspire, brought med bags, maybe had jokers if they wanted, and then we just balls-to-the-wall finished it out. I don't think you can ever mandate those sort of roles in a heisting game without REQUIRING it to be a team game like Overwatch, and frankly I'm glad that it isn't because it allows me to just play what I want to play like, be that solo OR with other heisters.

      THIS, 1 BILLION PERCENT. i wish people would simply talk about this more in general, even the PDTH people dont speak about how specialized payday 2 skill trees are, on release and now. the grind you were presented on released pd2 was worth the sheer power the skill tree granted, and offered players niches that they can specialize in, the ECM guy being an enormous example of how game changing an item can be. even current payday 2 landscape, having a medicore build neuters you greatly, but the power it grants once you learn everything about it is just as good. Perk decks offering a whole other layer in player expression and specialization. and barring death sentence [fuck you DSOD purists] every deck has a place for someone and other than anarchist [which has been on the down turn lately in my anecdotal evidence] its pretty rare to see everyone running the literal same everything. payday 3, just feels like they gutted and ripped everything out for modern shooter sake with skills that dont feel impactful enough for the grind required, removed perk decks entirely, and removed all of the unique defense and offensive layers, like dodge and critical hit, and for what? absolutely nothing. its abysmal.

      It's why you get server issues on launch day.
      Gamebreaking bugs despite "public beta".

      At this point, if there's a new game releasing, the best thing you can do as a consumer is to NOT preorder it nor buy it day 1. After 69 hours (nice) I got to level 73 without farming challenges at all. Played a mix of Stealth and Loud, but mostly Stealth. The only challenge type I "farmed" in any way is doing a heist with a fully modded weapon x, did them in Stealth while leveling my weapons, which is faster in Stealth because of the Weapon XP Stealth bonus.
    But I see how frustrating the system is, especially if you only focus Stealth. Needs more Stealth specific Challenges.
    I think the challenge system would be miles better if there were a list of common challenges you can repeat multiple times, something like "get all loot", "finish heist in stealth without killing cam guy", etc. Something, which makes the heist a bit harder, but can be easily integrated each attempt. Then Starbreeze can persist on a Challenge only progression.

    So far the game has been really fun to play. (When my AI teammates aren't getting stuck inside cargo containers)
    The gunfights feel more intense which I much prefer, you're nowhere near invincible like how you can be in payday 2, and the assault wave changes are really nice too with negotiations and how they actually ramp up in difficulty and introduce new enemies as time goes on.
    Obviously online only is a really big problem, we've already seen what a bad server outage can do to the player base. Imagine buying a $40 game ($90 if you bought gold edition) only to be completely unable to play it even offline due to something completely out of your control. Not fun is it?
    The XP system is god awful though, they say they don't want people to farm heists but they also put challenges in the game that literally read "Beat this heist 60 times." That coupled with how little XP you get from actually doing the challenges and heists is annoying to say the least.
    It needs some changes, but if they play their cards right I think they can pull this out of the deep end of which it has fallen.

      Challenges would be less of an issue if they were the only(?) way to go from level 100 to 150. At level 100, you have the max amount of skill points. Anything above is just cosmetic rewards. So it would feel more acceptable imo if having to grind challenges was only to get "bragging rights". Also throw some outfits/gloves/masks in the mix. Doing it just for colours and patterns is kinda useless since 1) most players don't really pay attention to other people's weapons and 2) if it's for your eyes only then you could totally download mods that give your weapons even better skins.

      tbh, every issue for me can be put aside and looked passed except for the lack of content. There being only 8 heists is pretty frusterating, it doesnt help that a lot of the stealth objectives dont feel as seperated from the loud ones as they do in payday 2. In payday 2 the stealth and loud versions felt almost like 2 different heists and it doesnt feel that way in 3. Also they shrunk the amount of difficulty options which reduces replayability even more, we went from having 8 difficulties to 4. I also dont appreciate how theyre leaning into dlc even more, payday 2 was bad enough but i can tell its gonna get way worse, it looks like your gonna need to own the dlc to play the heists entirely now since the elimination of contracts. You used to only need the dlc in order to purchase the heists contact but could play it regardless as long as someone else started the game. Now that you just pick a heist from a list and it starts matchmaking i almost guarentee youll need the dlc if you want to play it at all.

    This game seems to really favor stealth, which is fine by me. One thing I liked that was brought back from a Payday 2 classic, Framing Frames, is the idea that getting most of the way through a heist in stealth would result in additional loot. seems many missions have this similar thing to them where stealth can make things faster, but I hear ya where it's nice when the reward is money instead of just time

    This is why you are the best. So many "fake" Payday RUclipsrs out there now adays that overhype how good this game is (I won't name any names but we all know who I'm probably talking about). I been playing and following the PD franchise since the start almost with the original. This game has great mechanics and core gameplay, I will give it that. But the heists feel like chores and are complete garbage kind of like you put it. Every single heist my friend and I play we always dread and crack jokes about how bad of an idea the whole "get a better wifi signal" objective is. When PD2 came out, you had so much variety and the replay-ability felt ENDLESS especially after PD:TH. You had great unique lore, where each heist had it's own personality for each contractor. Hectors story line was Firestarter, Watchdogs, Rats and they ended up being all setups. Elephant obviously had Big Oil and Framing Frame so he can get in office. You get the point I'm trying to make here it was all just very "cool."
    I'll keep my rant about skills short, but yeah, in my opinion you put that **lightly**. That is more of a slap in the face than the heists in my opinion. No variety, no uniqueness, and once again that contributes to shitty replay-ability.

  • @Shadowhawkdark
    @Shadowhawkdark 8 месяцев назад +20

    I noticed the "weapons ramp up in speed" thing too. I've been thinking of it as a way of "allowing" semi-auto fire. You see, its not 'actually' a ramp up in fire speed, I'm fairly certain its just a "block" put on between the first shot and the second shot. A problem players "sometimes" have with full auto guns in other games is that if you just want to shoot 1 bullet on a fast firing weapon, you have to click (and release) extremely quickly, and if you mess up the release in even the slightest of ways, the gun will fire a second or possibly even third bullet. So, adding a (major) delay between the first and second bullet fired "sounds" like a solid plan...until you try it and it just feels clunky as hell. This game does actually feel really good to play semi-automatically, its just that it makes some weapons feel very BAD to play fully automatically.
    I think there are two obvious ways to fix this. Either, re-add the "triggers" attachment from PD2....or do like a bunch of other FPS games do and add a button for swapping between firing types (full auto, semi auto, and maybe let some weapons have burst). And obviously with both of these options, just remove the "block" the current game has between the first and second shot.
    Also, I think you are having such a rough time with the hipfire aim bloom because you have the crosshair bloom off somehow. Normally, the size of the crosshair changes as you fire, showing when it resets, and obviously how large of an area it becomes. This isn't saying the accuracy system isn't annoying, but just that you are potentially making it even more annoying for yourself.

It may take around 10 tries just to spawn on the left side by the gate, which is the optimal spot seemingly to do a speedrun. Then just loading in to get a reload takes about a minute or two each. (Also the circle thing is so annoying, especially during stealth it just slows everything down, it's like busted drills all over again) (Also not being able to customize the preset masks is sad) This is also coming from someone who bought the $90 edition, which I kind of wish I didn't buy now. Also, this game almost feels like it should have leaning with the guns, idk if that's just me.
    Quick thing, 37:06 you can sort challenges by "in progress" through the bottom filter, which isn't great but it kind of works.
    Then also for weapons, 38:38 you are able to discard them, so long as you don't have them equipped when they are highlighted. You just click them then hit discard. I'm not sure if it gives you any money back though.
    Also, I wanna say, you've thought of so many things that are wrong with this game I'm impressed lol, this isn't meant to sound like a bad thing. I would type more to add on, but this is a RUclips comment section and I probably shouldn't type that much. -- I do hope the devs can see this video and get feedback from it, and take it... hopefully.

    On loud, I really don't like the new armor mechanic. On PD2 you had the armor that was reloading itself and for the health you had to reload using your bags. By being careful you mitigated your need for bags as you didn't lose too much hp (it kinda when to shit after all the perk that could restore life, but the idea is there). On PD3 you have to mainly resupply your armor with bags, to be able to sustain in a game you need to constantly eat bags and when you don't have them anymore it's over. It feels like you have two redundant health bars.

    • @Mrannoyus
      @Mrannoyus 8 месяцев назад +1

      It's even worse when you consider the default medic bags only restore 20% of your health, they're completely pointless to bring and you should've just brought an armor bag instead. The perks that make medic bags heal more only apply when YOU use them meaning that other people who use them still get only 20% unless they also invested. Which is completely dumb because there's a perk for armor bags to restore 2 segments on use instead of 1.
      This also completely neuters heavier armors since they don't actually make your segments more resilient you just get more of them which means as your resources dwindle they're just worse because you still have the movespeed penalty.
      EDIT: Oh and since I forgot to mention it, medic bags don't restore downs by default either.

    It might be long at ~45 minutes, but you've divided the review into defined sections (aligned to YT chapters) and your critique in each section doesn't ramble; you remark more than once that you'll X or Y in the appropriate section (and you do so, accordingly).

    The reloading mechanic reminds me of a few tactical shooters I l've played. The only thing that PD3 doesn't do is choosing to keep the old mag (and ammo if its loaded) or dumping it altogether for a faster mag change but possibly running out of bullets faster.
    For stealth, I would like to see them take notes from the Hitman series when it comes to the unmasked aspect of the game. A lot of what they got going is pretty close to how Hitman does it but yeah, civis should be a lot more aware of your actions.

    You can definitely hear him but finding him in a crowd is surprising hard, I would always shoot at the chest of the cops that use shotguns thinking im hitting him, waiting for the explosion.

I'm not good at stealth, nor do I really have the patience for it, but it is one of the core elements of the game ... but I always felt like my build is getting ruined if I try to add in stealth elements. The runs where stealth becomes loud is often my favourite, but mechanically it is the worst. The changes sound great!

I for one have faith in Starbreeze, they actually seem to give a shit about the community unlike most companies so I'm crossing my fingers it's just a matter of time. I also very much appreciate you pointing out the flaws in payday 2. Me and my friends downgraded to earlier versions just because of how stupid the balancing in the game became and it was way more enjoyable.
    I very much want this game to be good, but so far the launch has made me even more disappointed than I was even expecting to be. I really hope they can pick up the pace and I hope this video will be watched by a lot of people including the devs and hopefully this game will eventually be more than mediocre.
    Oh also a fun fact about the chat feature we found while playing, they for some reason send the entire chat log with every message or ping sent, so eventually it gets to a point where any message makes everyone go to 100ms+ and forces the game to run at 0 fps.

But i do agree that a lot of generic heists like banks had a random track from certain selection. And ability to change music for heist in lobby was added much after PD2 release.

Also, Cloakers need more of a sound cue, like in PD2. You were at least given a bit of fair warning before you got cloaked. Now you can get instacloaked from around corners, because they start silently rushing at you before they even see you. Also, yeah, the progression system is utterly horrific and miserable.

    My biggest issues with the game is 1. The delay when looking around and aiming on console which makes the game feel like shit. 2. The removal of the detection meter thing(can’t describe it but you know what I mean) and how stealth is completely revolved around rush. 3.The removal of perk decks. 4. Masks have been automatically put on when I’ve fallen from like 4 feet which has ruined so many no mask runs. 5. Same with weapons and no melee customisation.

    For exp, there should have been an exp (for completion) up to a certain point, and then any level passed like, every base unlock, say when you unlock every weapon, you have to do challenges to level. It would show your ability to understand the game and is evidence of your skill. It would have made levels and unlocks feels less arbitrary and more impactful.

    I didn't see you address the favor/asset issue (the ones you can't buy). The fact that after completing a mission you have a chance of a random asset drop for a different mission is just dumb. Some assets like the elevator on Gold and Sharke are basically required for a smooth stealth experience. The fact that you have no control over aquiring these, further compounded by only being able to use one asset in solo makes it very frustrating.

I think you nailed it with "PD3 came out half baked" because it does seem like it. The way PD3 is now, it's a great foundation to expand on in the future. The bones are there, and while it doesn't have much muscle, it just needs to work out more and bulk up.
    It feels like they were too scared to make any big swings in design or mechanics because they want the community to tell them what they should make. So they focused on getting the base foundation of what they wanted, which I totally get and even applaud them for interacting with the community this much, but at some point the devs need to be confident enough to make decisions about skills, challenges, heist design, etc...
    I don't quite agree that the heists all feel similar or that their designs mesh together. To some extent, sure, but I think that feeling is more an issue of content quantity and not enough randomization/variation within the heists. It's unfair to compare Launch-PD3 vs Current-PD2, but it's impossible to truly compare the *feeling* between Launch-PD3 vs. Launch-PD2 in terms of content and mechanics because it's been so long and few people truly remember what Launch-PD2 was like. Because of that, I think people are still subconciously comparing it to Current-PD2 with it's 70+ heists and a hundred weapons and skills and whatnot.
    By sheer volume it's able to keep you engaged because you end up playing a huge variety regardless of their quality. Just hit quickplay and do a heist, you'll likely have at least a decent time messing around. Like, seriously, you don't do Harvest and Trustees because you like the heist, you play it because "Eh, I'm feeling a classic quick and dirty bank robbery right now." If you could only play 8 of PD2's heists like, I dunno, H&T, an Armored Truck, Train Heist, Ukrainian Job, Four Stores, Safehouse, Mall Crash, and Jewlery Store, people would get bored waiting for the damn drill to finish pretty quick, regardless of the individual quality of the heists.
    As it is right now, I like the heists, but my main gripe is that they play too similar on repeat playthroughs. I played 99 boxes and went to the East side so often that I didn't even realize there was a West side until I randomly got that variation one time. Rock the Cradle has these frames on walls that look like where doors *would* be, but I've never seen them filled. The escape vehicle is almost always in the same place when going loud and usually stays there indefinitely. PD2 didn't have the most randomization/variation, but it had *juuuust* enough to keep you on your toes and not on autopilot. PD3 definitely needs more variety on that front. More variety in layouts, possible room/vault locations, escape points, things that can screw you over/can be a happy accident, etc... I can't be the only one that's getting tired of throwing thermite on the vault roof, especially when we were able to get to the vault door in stealth. Feels like at that point we could drill it instead!

    Well said. I completely agree. I only played in the beta, the first day it was bugged and you couldn't earn xp, and I thought to myself.. this is not worth a day 1 purchase. If they don't completely rethink leveling in this game, I don't care if they add an offline mode, or allow players to host their own lobbies, I'm still not buying it. Your take on the challenges is spot on. Something else that I find very weird (watching a lot of streams) is that this game seems to treat progression as filling up a progress bar, to then let you fill up another progress bar.
    You earn cash by doing heists, which you then use to buy another currency. What? Why not just earn the valuable currency? You earn xp from heists which you use to unlock skills and mods, but not your infamy level. And why do weapons need their own experience level as well?
    All in all, this game is a pass from me for at least 6 months. If it's around then, maybe. If it's not.. meh, nothing lost.
