I appreciate your comment. I would say contact your medical school about schools preference, you can also contact ECFMG and ask for any updated information. ECFMG will be able to know the updated information about your application process such as when will they send documents for the verification. I have the following question: I already finished all my medical school tests, but my medical degree hasn't been issued and hasn't begun to process yet (it'll start processing in February). This said, Im still essentially considered a student. However, since I actually finished medical school, Im not sure if I must select that Im a student or if Im a graduate when I apply for USMLE Step 1, clarifying that my diploma has not yet been issued and somehow getting a letter from my medical school that confirms I graduated and then submitting it. I must clarify that when getting my USMLE ID and when applying for ECFMG certification and submitting my certification of identification form I stated that I was a student since at that point I still hadn't taken my last test in med school. I would really appreciate it if you can provide me with some information regarding my concern though I would understand if you don't have this type of information. Thank you.

Yes, you are correct. If documents are already verified through EPIC, the process will be faster as it is already verified, however, make sure the medical transcript is also verified through EPIC.
Hi Paul. Thanks for elaborative video's. Some Quick questions with regards to form 327 A, how is this sent to universities that is using the paper format. Are they possting or sending it through email to school. Second question. When university that is not part of electonic verification, how they validate and send it back ECFMG the form 327 A. Third question. Is form 327 A required form graduated students or for both students and graduates irrespective of their status.
Hello Anuka, My pleasure. ECFMG will mail form 327A to the medical school. When school official receives it, they need to verify and mail it back to ECFMG. Form 327A is mostly for graduates, I am not sure about students, but you will get the instructions from the ECFMG.

You still can appear in step 1 before completing your graduation, you need documents from your medical school mentioning you are a student. Please contact ECFMG for the details.

I am happy to hear that. Thank you very much. . ECFMG certificate does expire, however, since the Pandemic, with new pathways, ECFMG is renewing certified every year for the residency application. . ECFMG certification is not the same as ECFMG certificate application. I think you meant application. You can take later on, no problem, unless form 186 is expired. . During Notary cam, a notary will verify your identity, will check passport, take a photo. Thank you

Thank you for these videos! My application for step 1 form was rejected after the verification part due to a discrepancy between month of graduation mentioned by me and my medical college official. My college uses the electronic portal for verification. I am a graduate and haven’t received my diploma yet. The mail that ecfmg sent me said , that my college has to send them a letter mentioning I haven’t received my diploma and as to when will I receive it. I wanted to ask if this letter has to be sent via fax or I have to post it. And how do I reapply for the application and do I have to pay the exam fee again?
Hello, I am sorry to hear that. First of all, you do not have to pay again. It will be credited to your account on ECFMG. It will cost you some time, otherwise, no issues. ECFMG must give you instructions during the application. As your previous application was rejected, apply again. Discuss with the school officials before submitting the application with dates as at the end school officials with return verified documents to ecfmg. It should be electronically. Hope it helps.

Hello, You do not need MSPE for the exam. Yes, you are correct, MSPE is needed during the residency application. All you need is a medical degree, transcript, and a few completed forms. All the best.
As a student, you have to prove that you are a student and enrolled in a medical school. While applying there will be an option, whether you are a graduate or student. Select student and then proceed from there. Hope it helps.

Generally, if you are a student, you must submit document to ECFMG that you are a student enrolled in a medical school. Once you graduate, you must verify your medical degree and transcript. It looks like, you will fall in between. I would say start your process now as a student, ECFMG must give you a clear instruction during the application process. Hope it helps.

Thank you. Yes, it takes time. Generally it takes around 1 month. ECFMG will send at least 3 times every around 2 months until they get a response. I would encourage you to keep contacting your school.
Thank you for the video. I am a graduate medical student in 2007. Now, I have applied for the Step1 exam. I finish my application online on 2/28/2022, pay the fee, and uploaded my diploma. The ECFMG system told me my medical school uses online method to verify my credential. However, by today (4/6/2022), my application status is still "in process", and my medical school said they didn't find my info in their EMSWP. I called the ECFMG, and they said just wait. Could you please help me find the reason for the delay? I didn't upload my transcript for step1 application but will do that later. Is this the reason for the delay? Thank you.
As you already contacted ECFMG and they suggested waiting, I would say the same. Delay happens, particularly when there is a high number of applicants at a time. I would also encourage keep contacting with your medical school, sometimes school does not notice any notification from ECFMG. I do not think not uploading transcripts is a reason, however, you can upload those, not a problem, you do not need to wait for the verification. Hope it helps.

Well, once ECFMG process your document, it will be updated. As you said your medical school already verified and returned to ECFMG, I would suggest to wait for the response from ECFMG.

You can proceed and complete upto application for the ECFMG certification, however, if you want to apply for the steps exam, you must select a date. So you can apply upto the application for the ECFMG certification now.

After the application, if it says that your medical school prefers paper form, then yes. If you use courier, and send copies, no you don't need to upload again.

That's good to know your medical school takes part in EMSWP. Yes, you can also upload transcripts as well. ECFMG will send those documents electronically to the medical school for verification. Please make sure you are in touch with school officials during the process. Hope it helps.

If you are a undergraduate, you need to show a document from your school mentioning that you a medical student. ECFMG will further guide you during the application.

Yes, you are correct, they received your document that you sent. Hopefully, you did not mean original degree as original copy of your degree, as only copies should be sent. Now, as they asked for form 183, you need to download it and then sign, send to your medical school, your medical school will send forms 183 to ECFMG. The next step is form 327A. Hope it helps.

In fact, in most cases, medical schools are not aware that there is a way to do that electronically. anyway, I would say keep contacting with your medical school, let them know about the form they are getting soon to be filled out by the officials, and then return to ECFMG. If your school prefers EMWSP, ECFMG will automatically recognize that, and no form 183 will be generated. So, please follow it says during the application. Regarding name change, please contact ECFMG.

Hello. Yes, you can do it right after the payment. If, for any reason, ecfmg can not verify, you will get the next available eligibility period assigned by ecfmg.

In the past, all the documents must be verified before getting the schedule permit. It looks like candidates are getting schedule permit earlier now. Please follow the instructions that you have, I would say send those documents once medical school receives those.

You can appear in exams, but will not get an ECFMG certificate until you complete your graduation. At any point, have any confusion, please contact ECFMG. Hope it helps.

@@noor-dg7rq Most of the cases, IMGs appear in the USMLE exam at the final years of medical school due to clinical rotations. Although, step 1 deals with basic science, but with clinical correlation. I do not know, how does it work in your school, most cases, it is hard as an IMG to do well only after finishing basic sciences. I would say check Uworld questions and see how it feels to you.

Unfortunately not. Temporary or provisional certificates are not acceptable as far as I know. But if this temporary diploma indicates you are enrolled in a medical school, that might work as a student. I would say contact ECFMG for more confirmation.

I had my credentials source verified by MCC 2 years before moving here for a fellowship for purpose of getting a CPSA licence for supervised practice. It is to my understanding that physicians apply and MCC source verify though ECFMG? Will they still do the source verification process when I apply for Ecfmg certification ? If not, will I be able to transfer my verified documents and info from my physiciansapply acct to Ecfmg? I have just submitted a request for an Ecfmg/usmle Id number yesterday.- the very first step.

Hello Anuka, My pleasure. ECFMG will mail form 327A to the medical school. When school official receives it, they need to verify and mail it back to ECFMG. Form 327A is mostly for graduates, I am not sure about students, but you will get the instructions from the ECFMG.

Hello, I am sorry to hear that. First of all, you do not have to pay again. It will be credited to your account on ECFMG. It will cost you some time, otherwise, no issues. ECFMG must give you instructions during the application. As your previous application was rejected, apply again. Discuss with the school officials before submitting the application with dates as at the end school officials with return verified documents to ecfmg. It should be electronically. Hope it helps.

Generally, if you are a student, you must submit document to ECFMG that you are a student enrolled in a medical school. Once you graduate, you must verify your medical degree and transcript. It looks like, you will fall in between. I would say start your process now as a student, ECFMG must give you a clear instruction during the application process. Hope it helps.

Thank you for the video. I am a graduate medical student in 2007. Now, I have applied for the Step1 exam. I finish my application online on 2/28/2022, pay the fee, and uploaded my diploma. The ECFMG system told me my medical school uses online method to verify my credential. However, by today (4/6/2022), my application status is still "in process", and my medical school said they didn't find my info in their EMSWP. I called the ECFMG, and they said just wait. As you already contacted ECFMG and they suggested waiting, I would say the same. Delay happens, particularly when there is a high number of applicants at a time. I would also encourage keep contacting with your medical school, sometimes school does not notice any notification from ECFMG. I do not think not uploading transcripts is a reason, however, you can upload those, not a problem, you do not need to wait for the verification. Hope it helps.

Yes, you are correct, they received your document that you sent. Hopefully, you did not mean original degree as original copy of your degree, as only copies should be sent. Now, as they asked for form 183, you need to download it and then sign, send to your medical school, your medical school will send forms 183 to ECFMG. The next step is form 327A. Hope it helps.

In fact, in most cases, medical schools are not aware that there is a way to do that electronically. anyway, I would say keep contacting with your medical school, let them know about the form they are getting soon to be filled out by the officials, and then return to ECFMG. @@noor-dg7rq Most of the cases, IMGs appear in the USMLE exam at the final years of medical school due to clinical rotations. Although, step 1 deals with basic science, but with clinical correlation. I do not know, how does it work in your school, most cases, it is hard as an IMG to do well only after finishing basic sciences. I would say check Uworld questions and see how it feels to you.

My college provides a temporary diploma first and will give the final diploma 5 yeras later...is the temporary diploma valid ?
Unfortunately not. Temporary or provisional certificates are not acceptable as far as I know. But if this temporary diploma indicates you are enrolled in a medical school, that might work as a student. I would say contact ECFMG for more confirmation.

Hi, thank you for these videos. I have a question - I'm an IMG currently in Canada. I had my credentials source verified by MCC 2 years before moving here for a fellowship for purpose of getting a CPSA licence for supervised practice. It is to my understanding that physicians apply and MCC source verify though ECFMG?
Will they still do the source verification process when I apply for Ecfmg certification ?
If not, will I be able to transfer my verified documents and info from my physiciansapply acct to Ecfmg?

My pleasure. Yes, you are correct, all verifications go through ECFMG. My understanding is, you still need to go through the same process for USMLE, Verification might be faster though. I had to do both separately, things might change now. Hopefully I will upload a video on that shortly. All the best.

Yes, you can upload your diploma and other documents. ECFMG will send those to your medical school for verification.
