The thing about having a blank in the charts is true. I distinctly remember going in to Boots, Woolies or Tesco at the time where they would have the top 10 singles up on a board and for the Pistols there was a blank and a red star.
The local indie record shop had no such censorship.

I was friends to one of his friends, Scott, through web design about 20 years ago and have been a HUGE Pistols fan forever. I mean, I had a leather with SEX PISTOLS spray painted on it with studs back in the day. Obviously after they broke up, but I was young. It was cool to have that connection, because I always loved Steve. He had a cool stance when he played and I loved his sound. I remember being in the NAVY in the early 90's and seeing him on a TV in Sicily, of all places, on TV with long hair playing heavy metal shit. I w yelled out, " HOLY SHIT, THAT'S FUCKING STEVE JONES FROM THE SEX PISTOLS!!!!" I was so happy! 🤣
BTW, I've seen them twice in their latter years....thank the punk Gods! 😎 I'm also a HUGE PiL fan!!!! Long live Johnny!!! I watch all his YT videos. Seen them 3 times!

What I would give to have his blue sparkling LP that he first used on the 'Filthy Lucre Tour'. Steve gave it to one of his very close mates. This bloke is a genuine legend. Period. His cheesecake LPC was stolen so long ago so whenever you see Steve with his iconic cheesecake LPC it is a copy Gibson's made. Got to see them as VERY young teenager when they came to Canberra. Steve's leopard pants are what I remember most, I was glued to his side of the stage #SLAG

I agree with him. I was given that Queen album when I was 14 in 1978 along with others by Zappa & albums by Supertramp, Yes , Genesis , when they made music which was more interesting or weird & wonderful than the overplayed favourites of Radio 1 such as ABBA or Saturday Night Fever or Boney M or Chicago or the Bellamy Brothers or Racey or Liverpool Express. It’s the only Queen album I ever got although I went to a schoolmates’ to borrow News of The World to copy but instead overheard his hairy brother playing Force Majeure by Tangerine Dream. I gave him my blank cassette instead but Queen is a great album in my opinion 😁🏴❤️

Yeah, Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor (the drummer) had a booth in Kensington Market - selling old clothes as well as some artwork (art done by Freddie and his classmates at Ealing).
In the pre-Queen days, Roger and Brian May were in a band called Smile.
In Smile, vocals and bass were performed by Brian’s long time friend Tim Staffell .
Tim just happened to attend Ealing, where he met and befriended one Farrokh Bulsara (who the world came to know as Freddie Mercury) .
Freddie was in a band called Ibex ( later known as Wreckage), and briefly another band called Sour Milk Sea.
In those days, all these guys knew each other and attended each other’s gigs.
In this time is when Freddie and Roger opened their booth at Kensington to scrape by - the money made at the booth kept them and their friends from going too hungry.
Freddie really liked what he was hearing from Smile and wanted to join them. When Tim Staffell left for another opportunity (with a band called Humpy Bong) , Freddie finally got his chance by talking Brian and Roger into making a band together.
They still performed a few gigs as Smile with Freddie as the new lead vocalist before switching the name (after much debate) to Queen.
Then… they went through several trial bassists before meeting John Deacon. Deacon officially joined the band on March 1, 1971.
