His technique is so perfect, he's flawless and he always has just blown my mind , love Yngwie and all he does with a guitar. Actually really enjoy his blues playing too "Live In Lenengrad" I spelled that wrong I think, but I think that's where I heard some blues stuff he did, mind blowing. For whatever anyone might think or feel about his personality the man is a God with a guitar.

He’s a great player and sometimes great players get a bit arrogant when they have worked so hard and gave up most other aspects of their lives practice-play &play more and then with all that plus ( luckily) natural talent. And can’t find a group of players that match his ability they seem to be arrogant. Especially when they spent so long practicing alone, they can’t deal with the group mentality. Hell I don’t know what is in his mind all I know is no matter what you think. You got to give credit where credit is due. He Rocks .!!!

I remember a well known psychologist say most people who are successful are disagreeable people. That really sums up this man. His disagreeableness is interpreted on the flipside as controlling cos he don't want to compromise( it must be me first). To take that disagreeable away from him it only could happen if you would be different and or better then him. Most successful people usually live in their own world alone and are not necessarily happy I don't think Yngwie is in what he's been thru imo. .

I spent most of the 80's playing in rock/metal bands, and guitarist were always hard to deal with. I only played with one guitarist that was not an absolute turd. He and I wrote a lot of music together that turned out really good. He was one of the few guitarists that would actually listen. The best guitarist to work with are guitarists that can sing. The ones that don't sing think they have to be going full speed all the time. They have a real issue letting the music breath. I was able to teach that one guitarist that it was OK to just play slow chords and that I could sing melodies all around them.
Guitarist egos are as big as they come, sometimes, even more than a lead singer. For a short time, we had a second guitarist in the band who was only 16 and was a little Yngwie clone. Dude was an ego manic and was miserable to deal with. He was super talented, but nobody could stand him. By and large, guitarist are miserable pricks.

I saw Yngwie (pr. Ing-vee) at a small bar called Barrymoores in Ottawa, ON Canada. It was 19 uhhh 1986? I am not spot on by a year or 2. 😅 I loved his first album. Yngwie is complex, and a genius is quite active on stage. He was quite a showman. Nicest guy to fans. Now, if you pay attention to his pattern, you know he is difficult to work with. He never had a new vocalist for every album but for 2 albums. Only 1 singer played on 2 albums. My favourite is the first. It is what set him apart that I love this. The only thing I hated was his beer. Alcohol can exasperated you. I still love the guy. He is more balanced and never ages. My favourite album was....I think it was Animalise with Joe Lynn Turner, of Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Malmsteen, and numerous others. The songs I remember, but the fugging name escape me. 😂

what he has done and continues to do is a very delicate matter. composition, research, exploration, invention. he is a pioneering genius of the instrument, of lutherie and only those who play the electric guitar can understand him deeply. A character like this, manic, certainly autistic, just needs to be supported and supported in musical projects. Of course, as a young man, with alcohol and megalomania, he must have been an intractable person. But what matters is what he created. And it is a world heritage site. With all due respect to the dissatisfied singers.

I wonder just how often the bands Alcatraz or Steeler would have even be mentioned over the last thirty years if it wasn't for Yngwie, my guess is zero to not very many at all.
Also, I agree that when he was younger Yngwie had an out of control ego that made him a bit of a douche but many people weren't at their best during their younger years, especially mixed with alcohol, at least Yngwie had the talent to back it up. There have been a lot of stories over the decades about the out of control egos and bad behavior of many music stars who did not have that much talent to back it up. Most of the bad stories about Yngwie come from his twenties, hes been a lot more mellow since then.
Yngwie started a whole musical genre with his neoclassical metal. People always dismiss that claiming Blackmore, Uli Jon Roth, and Randy R did it first. Yeah, they all had elements of a classical sound in some solos but non created a genre and started a whole guitar movement the way Yngwie did starting around late 1984. Imo, Hendrix was the biggest guitar revolutionary followed by Edward Van Halen followed by Yngwie.
Omg, this thing just said Yngwie has continued to display egotistical behavior and putting down other musicians and then quotes a 1994 interview. Come on, thirty years ago isn't exactly current. It's crazy how many people just can't let shit go when it comes to Yngwie.
Back in his youth EVH also had plenty of negative things to say about other guitarists during his interviews.
I remember, I started playing in 1981-82 when i was 11 or 12 and read every interview with him i could get my hands on.
And im sorry but Jeff Ecott Soto and everyone else claiming that they were treated like sidemen, hired hands, etc., thats because you were!! All of you! They were all Yngwie's solo albums and tours.

Trilogy is his best album. I think a lot of people confuse his confidence for arrogance. When he made the statement in 1994 that he's the best at what he does and there's no one even close, I think that was an accurate statement based on guitarists who were actually making albums and had reputations. Nowadays there are so many guitarists on social media and many of them are very, very good, so there are any number of guitarists who are as talented or maybe even more talented than Yngwie. However, when he hit the guitar scene, he had a huge impact.

He had his moments as one of the better guitarists in the 80s I got to see him when he was opening for DIO on the Sacred Heart tour and although he only had two albums out at the time he was a force to be recon with and only got better with each new release. But in the mid 90s the music scene was changing and for the most part stayed true to his music, that being said he was also proving difficult to work with and started to loose his focus as a result.

This video is not utter garbage, but still crappy. It puts wrong context pics during the narrative which is wrong at times. The funniest bit was when after the 1985 Marching Out we suddenly are in 1992 when the grunge era is starting. Then we jump to a 1997 car accident that never happened, the accident happened in 1987. The narrative then talks about the 2000's and shows 3 albums one of which was the 1987 album Trilogy from before the car accident.
Things like this, plus "he's a egomaniac, homophobe racist!" narrative. Gimme a break Karen 😂
This 💩 vid is meant for other Karens consumed by their emotions based on negative media and video narratives like this one who don't know any better.

I separate the artist from the music in this case. You have to unless you're a prick who likes other pricks. I've met Yngwie in passing two times in the 90s. I witnessed his notorious ego and it's there but it didn't phase me then nor does it now. Yngwie's playing was like a drug to me. I listened to him everyday while learning guitar. From junior high back in the 80s to the present, I've been on the Yngwie bus. As corny as this sounds, he has enriched my life through his neo-classical wizardry. I will always be a fan but I'm no fool when it comes to the man. He's not worshiped but he's truly appreciated by me.

Yeah, ‘87 not ‘97. It was between the Trilogy and Odyssey albums. I’ve always wondered if the accident affected him mentally because after that he went further and further into just undisciplined improvisation of his songs. Last time I saw him live was on the Fire and Ice tour, and classics like Far Beyond the Sun and Black Star had devolved to him just playing the main themes and wanking out the rest. It was sad.

Malmsteen is a great guitar player, but a total nutjob. I loved Marching Out and Trilogy, but when you lose someone like Joe Lynn Turner as your singer you've got a problem. Odyssey was such an amazing album and was Yngwie's biggest hit, after that he couldn't really top it. He had some good singers after Turner, but, it just wasn't the same. Also the writing and vibe that he generated with turner was unique, it still maintained those fantasy and mythical lyrics but with a lot more class and mystery. Now Yngwie works with the only singer he can get, himself.

Unfortunately his ego is not compatible with his musical talent. If he at least had the same humility of mind as the quality of his guitar playing. Regardless, Yngwie was a game changer in the world of electric guitar like no other (except Allan Holdsworth) in the 80s when he was in his prime (this is important, his prime; just like any other artist), and with the help of amazing vocalists - such as Joe Lynn Turner, and instrumentalists - such as Jens Johnansson. Nowadays he is a shadow of what he was as a song-writer and irreverence. He is one of my favourites guitarist (not personality wise), since I was young, however don't like him as a producer, nor as a singer.
Note: neoclassical style, in the rock world, started with Uli Jon Roth, not with Yngwie. Yngwie brought that to a new level of guitar playing, though.

Music quality has nothing to do with numbers! Billboard charts has nothing to do with quality.
The material written by Yngwie today has nothing to do with the quality it once had, during the 80s and most of the 90s.
Plus, in the past he had a proper singers, proper producers, etc; and his flow of musicality was much more creative and inspirational than nowadays. But this is only my opinion, though, and we can agree to disagree, right?

Ying Yang Bumsteen is a one trick pony that plays the same arpeggio up and down the neck of his guitar. Sorry but I heard his first stuff in the early 80's. I thought it was great, Fastest picking to date. Then when he released his first LP, I was disappointed to hear all the solos were just regurgitated from his EP. Through the 80's I was constantly disappointed by every release, and would come to realize he had no melodic theory what so ever. Just flash and sparkle is all he brings to the show.
