Btw for reassurance- you are right about how a lot of disabled kids grow up kinda fast and learn how to handle themselves earlier than most because they have to learn how to adapt everything to accommodate them because the world refuses to do that for them (cause… ya know… actual ableism!)
It’s not everyone obviously (like you said, disabled people aren’t a monolith!) but it is much more common than in abled kids

    • @brigidtheirish
      @brigidtheirish 5 месяцев назад +13

Actual ableism and the limitations imposed by reality. Designing everything to accommodate one disability would make things that much harder for another disability. For instance, making things extra loud for people with reduced hearing (not total deafness) would be unbearable for people with certain types of sensory processing disorder. And that's not even getting into the inconvenience, at best, to people who don't have disabilities. It's just not reasonable to reduce the comfort of the majority of a population in order to make a minority more comfortable.
Then there are situations where accommodations are physically impossible. My dad's disabled from birth, mobility issues, and lives where water is a mineral half the year. No one's going to be able to remove all ice from all walking surfaces all winter. And that's just *one* thing.

I have an invisible chronic illness so I don't look disabled and I have a whole suite of "oh god I need to explain the realities of my illness to this new person for some reason" comforting behaviours/phrases/stories that I've reflexively developed over the years. There's just layers of extra emotional work expected of a disabled person in society, and even in the best case it's generally practical to spend a lot of time reassuring others and validating them for any acknowledgement of your personhood (even if that acknowledgement was insulting or ableist or problematic for you).

Not as smart as humans, maybe, but they’re generally pretty careful and precise with their movements. The one that swam in the basement took it slow to check the water, the one that fell off the dock was focused just on the sound. And of course, Death Angels can leap pretty damn far. All 3 of these movies were perfectly executed. Just watched Day One, and the person that I saw it with said it was ok because you don’t know where the aliens come from. That, I honestly think was a big problem with older, sci-fi horror/thriller movies. Why the f*** does it matter where these things come from? How is that helping the survivor’s situation? How does that help the situation?
Movies that dedicate whole sections of a movie to telling you the back story of these aliens is just to make the story take longer. Be honest, are you really interested in the planet and origin of these creatures, or are you more interested in how these people are gonna beat a acid-bleeding pitch black creature, or a camouflaging weaponized hunter, or a quick-as-hell lengthy monster that kills/destroys anything that makes a noise.

Most of the so called "plot holes" were just little details that went unexplained because the movie was about the people, not the premise, and you can find some sort of explanation relatively easily if you think about it for a few minutes. And even if there are genuine contradictions... Kind of who cares? Do you not try to aim for some suspension of disbelief when you watch a sci-fi movie so you can enjoy this beautifully crafted story about familial relationships and how far we would go for the ones we love? I want to say not ableism, I have done this my whole life. You grow up fast when you are thrust into survival mode. People think we would die first, but I have been stuck trying to make it through life since I was diagnosed. My parents would totally throw themselves at danger for me, but id be doing everything to not put them there

I find the constant need to find "plot holes" in movies so exhausting and annoying. So often it seem that some people just go into a movie *searching* for things to nitpick, instead of just watching. It's one of the areas where I think the internet has made the world worse.

I never wear shoes, unless I’m going out in public. I can walk on concrete and rocks for miles, and my feet never bleed. I don’t think it’s realistic that their feet bleed like that in the film.

I really like that in the first movie, the adults step up against the aliens, but in part two, it's the children. I personally think it's like a handing of the torch and a great example of human adaptability, ingenuity, spirit and resilience.
The adults learned to survive and ensured their children knew how to with or without them, that was just the new reality. The adults, the 'first generation', for lack of better wording, ensured survival by learning and adapting before passing that knowledge to the children, the 'second generation'. Then the children built off what their parents/the adults learnt and adapted to, giving them the foundation basically, to learn and adapt further. In doing this, and with a bit of luck, the 'second generation' discovers the weakness of the Death Angels and it's a weakness that they can be exploited.
Humans are apex predators. Technically in the AQPU (A Quiet Place Universe), we still are. The Death Angels are not our natural predators, they came from a giant meteor from space for fudge sake. If they had been given enough time, they 100% could be but that's where that human spirit I mentioned comes through. The first generation focuses on surviving by learning and adapting. The second generation having learnt and adapted, learns more and adapts further to then be able to push forward and fight back.
For better or worse humans have a great capacity for violence. By combining human adaptability, ingenuity and spirit with our great capacity for sheer violence, the second generation is starting that process of resilience and fighting back, of taking back the world that was snatched so horribly and suddenly from them. Will this change humanity forever? Most definitely. But they lived, they learnt, they got back up and moved forward in the face of adversity.
If you couldn't tell I am more than able to write a full essay about the AQPU whether it be from a technical aspect from the audio and video and cinematography or a philosophical(?) standpoint like the above.
Hope you enjoyed my rant :)

Hello!! I’m not sure where the best place to send this request would be, but could you possibly caption the movie clips that you use in your videos like you do very wonderfully for your wins/narrations? It can often be hard to decipher the audio of the movie clips and RUclips’s automatic captions are both inaccurate and cover your correct narration captions. This would also make your videos more accessible for deaf/HoH folks and people with audio processing disorders. I know it is extra work for you, but this accommodation would be greatly appreciated by all if you have the time for it. Thank you so much for your incredible videos and for your consideration. Keep up the good work!

The fact that they do that means that on their planet, their is something very loud that makes a lot of noise. The armor is also evidence that the death angels weren't the dominant species on their planet. If they are that deadly or horrifying, imagine what their predator is. If it survived, humanity is screwed.

Hello sir! Thank you for another great video.
If you are interested, I’d recommend seeing The Watchers. It’s the written and directorial debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan. It’s a passable horror/thriller/monster flick.
IF you do end up reviewing it, which is your choice of course, can I please make a suggestion?
*minor story spoiler* Can you make sure to call the entities in the film by their proper name? The movie calls them certain names, which are almost correct, but fall a little short. As someone who studies the mythology of the country the story takes place in, it would be appreciated if the proper names were used at least once during a video.
I’d love to chat about this more if there is any interest. In any case, thank you for all the content you give us!
