Maybe it's surprising for me because of the anime that shows he could be highly ended up with either Suzune or Kikyo...
I was just like u when I was an anime only, but when I started reading, Kei becomes best girl/is more prominent in the story and their relationship develops in such a wholesome way! Try reading... u won't regret it

Just finished vol 7 and Dragon boy got beaten senseless….Moral of the story, seriously, don’t mess with main boy who only wanted to live under the radar…He just flexed a bit and the school’s top dogs got threatened and out gunning for him…im shaking my head feeling sorry for them now… Also one thing i like about COTE is that this school has an amazing number of cute waifus…

When the ending song is played after EP 11 if you look closely in Ayanokoji eyes you will see that a man is appearing in his eyes and that man is his father.At this moment in the video his father is appearing 3:57 .

@@LeytonTLA1 I know this is late to reply, but one of the reasons was that the director wanted Horikita to be the tsundere of this anime and assuming to have the moments Kei was supposed to have such as the pool and other moments when Horikita blushed.
After Death Note this is the best physiological series i watched along wid LN which is pure gem. But this is much more realistic compared to Death Note.
