    Flutter is a popular development framework for creating cross platform mobile applications and web applications, but is it the best framework to learn? Is the job market big enough for flutter developers? In this video I give my thoughts on a viral Twitter/Reddit post where someone talked about how difficult it has been for them to get a job as a Flutter developer.

    Fun fact: In the real world, the more popular a framework is, the more competitors there will be.
    So it is not always true that "the more popular the framework, the easier it is to get a job.''

      Is there a lack of developers or to much of them in a specific language? Basic supply and demand should be your indicator.

      My first comment is really about basic supply and demand lol
      I have no choice but to tell you the same thing over and over again.
      I think arguments based on objective data about supply and demand are useful. I don't think that's included in either this video or your comment.

    • @rulesmen
      @rulesmen 11 месяцев назад +2

      Let me rephrase it. Is there a lack / too much of developers in terms of demand. Price of freelancers or salaries based on language are usually a good indicator.

    • @johan2371
      @johan2371 11 месяцев назад

      @@rulesmen
      "Are there too few or too many developers to meet the demand?"
      I don't have an answer to this question, nor do I have *objective* data to support any claim on this matter. Do you have such data? If so, I would like to see it.
      No *objective* evidence is provided in this video at all.
      To my knowledge, there appears to be no *objective* data available. If a single post on Reddit is considered *objective* verification, then anything can be asserted as true.
      "freelancers or salaries based on language are usually a good indicator."
      You are free to choose which indicator you trust, but it is only your indicator, it doesn't matter to me.
      Let me just ask this:
      If a job seeker's technology stack is React Native, can they easily get a job even if they are less skilled?
      Do you think that it is impossible to get a Flutter job in 2023, no matter how skilled a job seeker is in Flutter?
      It's ridiculously obvious, but in the end it comes down to the ability of the job seeker.
      It would be a different story if Flutter jobs really didn't exist at all, but that's not the case in the real world.

    • @h50896
      @h50896 4 месяца назад +1

      I really feel that this idea of prioritizing technologies based on the job market leaves out the role of a developer to understand current developments and making an impact on the choice of technologies themselves once they are employed. While you can work as a programmer, programming is still not fundamentally just a grunt job; it's a skill. You can certainly use that skill professionally, but if you have the ambition to excel at it, then you can't just consider yourself on the receiving end of someone else's dictates. You will be deciding the tech stack at some point. You will be introducing ideas from one technology to another. You will be inventing things yourself, for crying out loud.
      Way too much top-down thinking going on here, in my not-so-humble opinion.

      @@TerriTerriHotSauce I guess you can find plenty of videos comparing both. To me, the main different is avoid JS in mobile. It's simple. Dart is a new language which brings many good things and avoid the JS mess.

    This video is exactly what I was talking to my friends some days ago, and I relate with 100% of this video. I work as a Vue developer and I've been studying and creating Flutter apps since last year. Learned a lot of animations, styles, DB integration, state management, and yet I couldn't get a job, which is my dream to work as a mobile developer. But I know that the main problem here is the lack of flutter jobs.
    I would say that the reason for this is because flutter is relatively new, so the cost for the companies to rebuild their apps/systems would be big. And of course, there are more native stack jobs like Kotlin or Swift if compared to Flutter, like 3 Kotlin jobs for 1 Flutter job.
    Of course, I changed my focus from Flutter to a Native stack, so I started to study Kotlin, which has been very fun and easy to learn, but I must be honest and say that I'd love to work with Flutter.

      Flutter web is lackluster and you barely, if ever, code HTML in a React project. It's JSX/TSX and CSS, thats it. In fact, if you use MUI with sx props you end up with a Flutter-like developer experience.

I love flutter, but I code in c# at work. Don't get trapped into the bloated Java ecosystem because it's comfy for you, and make the mistake of choosingg hammer for every job when really a screwdriver would have been a better bet

So I watched a tutorial and went through the setup. Nothing worked. So I tried another tutorial, once again the presenter seemed to get everything installed just fine, but not me. I have spent the better part of 3 days trying every tutorial to get my development environment setup. Some of these tutorials are only 4 months old, and they are already outdated with newer versions and components not liking each other. Nothing looks the same. It also doesn't help that most of them spoken with heavy indian accent, and terrible audio quality. About to give flutter a shot.

    If you can build apps and are still "looking" for a job, then my friend... you have bigger problems. I'm a native mobile developer for over 10 years, picked up flutter 2 years ago built 2 of my own apps and now they generate good money monthly. Using flutter I built each of them in less than 2 months, also built the backend myself for all of them with various features like ML and AI. No staff, almost zero cost except marketing cost via Google Ads. All I make is profit.
    You don't need to wait for a ground breaking idea these days, everything is saturated, just build something cheaper. If you can build your of Uber app but offer drivers a larger cut and users lower fees, you will succeed at least enough to fund your next thing.
    But hey, you could just wait around for a job. Maybe sell cars in the meantime, heck maybe you will be the guy the sells me the Porsche I'm looking for 😊.

    I think the last point is of essence here: Don't focus on a framework or programming language - instead, focus on the essentials, architecture, problem-solving, algorithms, base-structures, UI/UX, etc. This will make you a good developer regardless of the framework your are most proficient in at the moment. The trends and syntax will change with time, but your ability to adapt and apply core concepts to any environment will stay with you forever. If you have a good understanding of the fundamentals, you will easily learn any new framework your company/job market requires you to, or that you wish to try out for yourself. :)

    I agree with you in this video. Whilst it's true that you can use any programming language to build anything (mostly), if you are trying to get a job the best thing to do is to look at the job requirements at the company you want to work with and learn that technology first!
    Yes you should have transferable knowledge about software development from any framework or tool but generally speaking employers would prefer to hire someone who is proficient in their tech stack and thus will be productive as soon as possible as opposed to having to invest further resources to train the new dev in order to be productive on the team.
    Personally, I like flutter quite a bit and think its cool, however if I want a job as an Android developer the best way to get that job, by far, is to learn Kotlin and become proficient with it as that's what the job market demands.

    • @jeromesimms
      @jeromesimms 4 месяца назад

      @@Mo7ammad_7 It really depends on where you live because some places want more Flutter whereas other places want more Kotlin developers. The advice I would give you is this: look at the job boards for your area and search "android developer", then if you see that the majority of the jobs require Kotlin then I would advise you to spend more time learning Kotlin, if it is the case that you really do want those jobs. However, if you only want a job in Flutter then search for jobs with Flutter and keep on spending more time learning and applying your knowledge of Flutter.
