Great lookin boat, thanx for vid.
I had a Cape Dory 28. I sold it and bought an Island Packet 32. I miss the old 28. It was not as comfortable and livable, but it was so simple and super easy to sail.
Never let steel cable of any kind run through your fingers. One frayed steel strand in your hand hurts a lot more than you ever expected and there’s a real danger of infection. Take a piece of light cloth - preferably cheesecloth - and just drape it over the cable and drag it along the cable. Any fraying ends will tend to snag in the cloth.
Very nice tour. I'm looking at buying one. I like that it's a full keel and can go offshore. I like the designer of it too....
A beautiful boat. Carl Alberg outdid himself with this one. Lucky guy.
Thank you, Patrick! I'm feeling pretty good about this boat.
Real nice little boat! 👌
Thanks 👍
Very nice, thanks, it does actually make sense getting a smaller rather than larger boat as you can be single handed and sail anytime! All the best!
Brilliant! Thanks for the thorough view.
Hi Sandy, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for your comment.
We had a 25D. You will never find a 25' boat with a bigger head. But, I would have taken ours around the world without hesitation.
Sam Holmes is redoing his Cape Dory right now. He just released a video of redoing that seam a few weeks ago.
Looks like a nice boat Thanks for the tour
Thanks for watching!
Cape Dory sailboat ⛵one of the greatest all the time ,no doubt. Greetings from the tropical paradise island 🏝of Kauai. I am living 30 years in this one of the most beautiful island 🏝on the planet Kauai
Thats my dream boat.
Nice setup
Great walk through. I have the 1gm10 motor in my Cornish Shrimper 19. First thing to check with water under the motor is the water pump. Had a water leak when I bought it and I had to rebuild the water pump. This engine it looks like you have good access to it. The rebuild is not difficult.
Great Review! At 6ft 3ins tall I had better give it a miss and stick to my Hurley 9.5!
I live in Philadelphila. They had a showroom here years ago. I would visit the place when I was a younger man and tour the 3-4 boats they had on display. Long gone now.
That's interesting. Thanks for the information!
Love your boat! I’ve had dreams of an Vega 27’ but I want something I could trailer. This looks like a little better choice.
Thanks for watching, Ken. I was very lucky because this boat came with a trailer. I haven't used the trailer yet, but expect to do so during the next haul out.
@@VoyageDreams That is a video I would love to sea! Bad spelling intended.
Nice looking boat. Yes i agree it is a bit on the small side but does look well loved
My concern is for storage of food and supplies for longer passages, but perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself. Thanks for your comment.
@@VoyageDreams where do u plan on going? Retired? My first stop when I get one is gulfport mississippi to launch right by a pier where I grew up. Use to see those sails on horizon while sitting on pier and always dreamed of it but never got to do it. Now, 45 years later, I think I can soon........still some good cape dory 25d's out there. I like anything alberg 30 ft and under. Like the 25d because most come w a trailor, convenient even if a guy doesnt have a truck, can rent a truck to store boat
@@thehammer6675 Your plan sounds like a good one. I'm not yet near retirement, but I'm not going to waiting either; life it too short. I'll head south from the Pacific Northwest and see what comes of it. I'm still a few years from departure because there are still many preparations and family to consider.
@@VoyageDreams sounds great. I have another adventure planned. Smaller vessel like a west wight potter 19, to hang out on the Columbia River.......looks like various ports and dockage thru there like at the dalles and Arlington. And all kinds of things to do. Maybe a cape dory could go up the river, I'd have to research it. I've heard mouth of river is rough. You've got a nice adventure planned. Other way, alaska nice too, and the 25d can do it.....
Rice and fish will take you far for sure! I would stock my journeys full of rice, fish for my meat, and have some canned veggies/fruits.
Couldn’t help but notice you said the toerail was only screwed on through the hull flange. This is incorrect. The toerail is bolted every 12” down through the deck and hull flange to produce a solid structure. This is in addition to a bedding compound which is between the two hull flanges. There are some intermediate lag screws used to hull the two structures in place while the bolts are being securely fastened. Cape Dory built their boats to last a lifetime.
Thanks James! I believe the owner's manual mentions screws only, but I'd certainly welcome bolts being used in addition. I'll be sure to take a closer look.
Hey, what a beauty. I like them like this, simple, cozy and practical. Enjoy it! I’d substitute the heads with a composting toilet, no more nasty tanks!
Thanks Dan! A composting head is definitely a consideration.
Cool! I am looking to possibly buy a Cape Dory 25’ to 30’, so this was a great tour. Almost bought a 25’ up in Alaska last summer but I needed to much work. Subscribed, interested to see what you get up to w this baby ⛵️☺️👍🏻
I owned a CD 28. It was a great boat. But the access to the engine is terrible. That was my main complaint.
I'm in a 27 and for its size this beefy little ship packs a mean punch! Superb design!
Hello Thanks for sharing your visiting and then buying process. Very interesting for those of us who are looking into getting our own sailboat. One question if I may: now that time has passed, what's your thoughts on choosing this Cape Dory over the Westsail 32 with it's nearly new Yanmar (I know that not having done any work on that 32 footer, you can't really assess tha amount of work that it would fianlly need). Thanks
Hi Nicolas,
While I don't know how it would've worked out with the Westsail 32, I'm happy I didn't buy it. I like the much-more-easily-managed 25D, but there are a few things I would prefer different. These are:
- it doesn't back-up well
- the forward head area is not a space well managed / useful
- the best storage spaces are all to port
As I'm sure you know, all boats are a compromise, and I'm making the best with what I have for what I want it to do. Overall, I'm very happy with the 25D. It's well built and low-maintenance. I hope this helps.
You look like a proud father! Lol
Thanks! I think it will be a good relationship.
Hi nice
Did you sale it already?
How much?
Looks like it's in pretty good shape and has a SmartPlug.
Yep, it really doesn't need much. Thanks for watching!
Goodt Looking boat 😎😎😎😎😎
Thanks for watching, Sheila!
What camera are you shooting with? GoPro? The audio quite good.... thats why I'm asking. Thanks
I use two GoPro 4s. They're older now, but work well except with wind noise. Thank you for watching!
Barco com espaço de armazenagem interessante para um 25 pés, gosto da praticdade e para mim estaria de bom tamanho. Saudações do Brasil
É um barco bom e simples, embora eu esteja achando que o armazenamento seguro é um problema interessante. Feliz Ano Novo dos EUA
Embarcação com boas soluções.
Obrigada. Sim, é um bom barco.
Had one once nice boat the head smell is a real issue but easily solved
It's interesting that you say that because the previous owner left lots of deodorizers on the boat and removed the original head because of the smell. I wonder what causes the trouble on these boats.
I just looked at a pacific seacraft 20' and it's layout seemed so much more roomer than this 25' ? Just saying...
Flicka doesn’t have a separate/private head, or a double berth. Cockpit is larger on CD25D as well.
Isn't that forward head originally a v birth and small heads
Unlike the majority of production boats, the Cape Dory 25D was built with the forward area dedicated to a head without a v-berth.
I'm looking at one now the owners are hard to get ahold of but it is great shape asking 4500
If it's in good shape, that seems to be an excellent price. Good luck!
@@VoyageDreams it's got a nice hard dodger already built dhe ready to go only think it has a outboard
dont run your hand on cable ever
