The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the things that has become a cultural icon, famous not only due to it's movie roles, but also the crazy events that occurred with the company and founder. In this video we look past that and just experience the DeLorean as a sports car from the 80s. A review of the DeLorean just as a car, which in itself is quite a unique experience. A rear-engined sports car with a body of stainless steel, gullwing doors and plenty of other quirks and oddities, the DeLorean is unlike the cars I usually spend time with. This one has been fairly extensively modified in a unique way, with a gated manual transmission swapped in (Replacing the stock 3 speed automatic), Porsche sourced independent throttle botties, new seats, steering wheel, brake booster, suspension and much more! Make sure you check out the owner's Instagram for more details and watch the review where I got to drive it!

Just seen a whole documentary on John Delorean. Built in Ireland. Quality issues but employees said he was fantastic to work for. John lost everything and including his family. He had a vision though. Good video guys
He was a terrible businessman and ran the company into the ground by paying himself millions out of the company earnings. Because of him, all those poor factory workers in Northern Ireland lost their jobs and had to go back on unemployment benefit.
Did you know he was a victim of sting where to get the company started he tried to sell a large amount of cocaine but ended up selling it to an undercover FBI agent but chargers were dropped
@@matthewhensley5165 Yes I was aware of that.
@@taylor_made86 sounds like a greedy bastard, guess he got what he deserved
The car failing pretty much killed him. He didn't take the advice from Bricklin.
Delorean owner here, vin 3408. This was a fantastic conversation about the Delorean and this specific car is one of my favorite! Great job!
How much did your car cost when/if you bought it? I'm interested in buying one, I just wanted to know a good price.
@@Vuzlaa mine was around 50,000. That’s the going rate today for a decent one. If you go up to 60,000 that will get you a very good Delorean. Now having said that you can still pick them up for around 40,000 but you will definitely need to do some work on the car.
@@VegasShuffle oh man that's a lot of money. i own a Plymouth Valliant right now, it costed nowhere near that
@@Vuzlaa 10 years ago you could have picked one up for 20,000. Now the way the prices are going I expect the Delorean to be a 6 figure car in the not so distant future.
I can’t yet get a Delorean but it’s cool to hear an engineer is designing parts that I can use when I eventually get one. This Delorean is a perfect example of my dream Delorean.
They made around 9,000 but there's probably less than 6,000 on the road today. His car is definitely worth over 50k as is. You can buy an ok working one for around 26-30k, but be prepared to spend and extra 2-5k to get all the kinks worked out.
Very true but the fact that he has one of the ones that would be considered a prototype I believe. Bc he said he an 81 in the video I believe.
That Intake setup is beautiful! Definitely something I didn’t expect to see. As a child of the 80’s I absolutely love these cars. They never fail to turn my head.
I'm glad he kept it mostly stocked so man try to make it look like the ones in the movies that ruins them to me.
$5000 for a delorean! That's crazy! Wish i could get one for that. They're worth like $60,000 these days.
The driver is such an intelligent person and cool the passengers is so cool great chat i can listen to this two for hrs
I have my DeLorean since 2017. I enjoy driving it every day...
How does one get a DeLorean? I want one so badly
@@thatrussianguy1348 either order it or from the dmc dealership at texas. there are other dealerships at other places but i don't rly know them.
How much did U pay if u don’t
Mind me asking
I've seen your channel
@@mwildthing5525 Tell me if ya ever find out
Neat video. I have a dmc 12 and a Fiero GT fastback. These cars share a lot of history!
Hey I am the kid that works at noddles and company. I saw your car parked. And I go on RUclips because I wanted to see how it is to own this car. I never thought I would of seen this car in real life!
Glad you appreciate it thanks!
I went to my prom in a DeLorean : ) 1986
Did u hear BTTF jokes?
Those doors can be adjusted to close perfectly. Ya just have to do the internet research on how to do it. My buddy owns an early gas flap hood version and he fixed his doors.
Love the DeLorean, the Recaro seats look incredible inside the car, and even look factory good. Nice car!
This is a great vid full of enthusiasm and upbeat spirit. JZD would approve I'm sure. His spirit lives. Great stuff.
This is Hilarious 😅😅😅 The Driver looks like a Asian Han solo & The passenger looks like a slightly better Kim ong joon😅
kim ong joon?
since I was a small child I always wanted to own a DeLorean I'm from Europe tho and I cant seem to find people that would sell it to me for a good price. I would go to America to get on and for real this car deserves it, in 3-4 years I will get one and make it my dream car.
Just randomly recommended in my feed, was thinking "Ooh, DeLorean! Cool!"...then as he's driving I'm like "Wait...that's...BIRMINGHAM?! NO WAY!"
I mighty have seen this car on the road locally. So cool!
This is awesome. I always really loved the design of the Delorean, this one is fantastic
This is so cool!
Thanks bro! 🎉
As a 17 yr owner of a 82 DeLorean vin 11035 I can say they are great cars and when restored correctly make reliable daily driver as I do with mine. Anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand miles a week and knocking down 28mpg still using K-Jet. I love this old school injection style and followed this build for quite some time! He really put alot of hard work and dedicated time to this!
Wow fr? Do you have to pretty much be an engineer like this dude to do a good job? What goes into restoring a car like that?
@@gamefreaknitro his dads money
Great Scott!
Very awesome build, thanks for sharing
OMG .. THAT car to die for. I"m currently watching Delorean on Netflix. The guy's amazing. 70's he was thinking about fuel efficiency and environment.
Big fuel crisis in those times... Minor people were thinking about owning a "sport car" back then due to the price of gas.
That's why Delorean made decision to use a .. V6 (in fact V8 with chopped off 2 cylinders - firing pattern and 90 degrees of V8 construction is still present in this engine :))
Fun fact: one of engines considered by DeLorean to be used in DMC-12 was the Alfa Romeo 2.5 V6 'Busso' engine (12 valves version); shame that it didn't happen - DMC would sound and drive better than with PRV engine.
@@xTrinitrotoluen
Yes there was a gas crisis in the late 70s. Look what's going on now , 2022 , we got 6.50 gallon gas in california
lol when I heard eagle premier, delorean was always the car I wanted growing up and an eagle premier was the first car I ever had
Guy who owns the car is super nice and knows alot about cars. Awsome videos guys
Great video!!
Eddie the engineer thats badass delorean. Did a lot of stuff to make the car run and run well.
Now this a Delorean I would love to own, Nice job!!
I love the Volvo 264GL with carburettor PRV. This engine is an extreme iteration of that one.
I like painted DMC 12s. The stainless is individuality starved!
Shout out from vin 4885. Very cool custom upgrades. Great job and nice car!
This is one of my dream cars. I'm 21 and I just wanted one for so long and the manual. It's so iconic. I never knew about the movie until much later after I already knew about this car. I know ot was underpowered and my current car a 2013 Mazda 6 with a 6 speed could outrun a stock DeLorean but I would love to just have one. But I don't think I'll find one woth my budget unfortunately. I can hope tho
like the upgrades you did except steering wheel. great stories and great video overall!
got a few pics of your hypecar at Wawa in Orlando on May 3, 22'. Didn't expect it to be a trailer queen, but ok, still nice, but rough. A little bit of work to do, should be a fun project! Your buddy is an airhead.
I love these cars!! I might buy one someday since they are becoming increasingly rare to find in decent condition
yeah the delorean market is rapidly rising. last 3 in restored tuned condition are near 80k each. they were 30k pre-2020
The nose is perfect straight that always makes me smile 😀
The back window louvers make me weak in the knees.
THIS is the type of guy that should own a car like this, the work he did with it was awesome
Absolutely agree!!
@@EddieX
Do the lower control arm out of stainless steel. Or maybe aluminum. My dad worked with metal ( engineer ) and did custom work. He did work for harley davidson and others.
So cool!
Love to drive one of these one day, sitting in a Fiero right now so I can kinda pretend haha
I’m from Georgia, I wonder where he’s from. His stories are interesting, would be awesome to meet him one day.
that DeLorean looks like it rides a lot smoother than the one i had a chance to ride in. :)
Its amazing
We corrected the researched history in Wikipedia of the “DMC-12” moniker. Take a look to learn why this is not a DMC-12.
88 mph was the magic number in back to the future because that's as fast as it would go.
I always like saying that Doc Brown made the first DeLorean to hit 88 mph...
Driver might as well be the New CEO of DMC Delorean. I’m sure he gonna bank a lot
Volvo heavily revised the PRV6 fir the 780 , making it an even fire engine. Later , Citroën offered a 24V version in the XM .
Not sure how much these two later versions had in common with each other or with the earlier motors used in the Eagle Premier.
If I had a delorean, I'd drive it from time to time.
I understood that reference
@@NakedPhillyJones alright captian america
Wow I just saw one on the same day and met the owner
i saw one at my school xDDDD
Idc about a rolls Royce, lambo or any fast car out there. I want a dmc 12 delorean!
Got one in the garage rotting away I can't bring myself to disturb the wildlife living in it, it's a comfy home for those animal's, production line I think it was 23 lol
you joking right?
Technically it's a DMC DeLorean. DMC-12 was the model name given prior to production but doesn't appear on the sales literature when built. They were simply advertised and sold as the DeLorean by DMC.
Beautiful setup from the seats to the intake. Enjoy, from VIN 1844.
Now try driving it at 88MpH and see where(when) it takes you
One day ago ? Wow
Great delorean man !!!!
I say, DEFINITELY upgrade to aftermarket wheels (something period correct) not just for the improved looks but with wider wheels and tires, you'd get improved handling.
One of the cheats I've seen on RUclips is buy an extra set of rear wheels and use them for fronts. You get a larger front tire, more room for bigger brakes, and still maintain the stock look with the DMC logo.
This dude is smart asl 🚀
Awesome video! Alternative name is "What' it's like when an engineer owns a DeLorean" :D
Accurate 🤣
Can't the lower control arms from a Lotus Esprit work?
Everybody talking about back to the future but I'm just here from hotline Miami
Lol its like superman he said! Yes it looks like that !
One of my dream cars honestly.
Mine too but I would rather keep it as a "museum piece" absolutely perfectly preserved it will not leave the flipping garage if if I had the money to buy that sort of thing
If you own a Delorean, you're living the dream. You have no where else to go and nothing left to do in life. Might as well go....back to the future. Hahahahahhshahahahhshshhshahhshassssaàaaaaaaaàãāåæææ ha ha ha
Imagine being chased by cops and you hit 88mph...
Goodman 👊
Love all the mods except the steering wheel. The classic spoked wheel doesn't fit the delorean aesthetic. The engine mods are incredible.
do people do a v8 ls swap on these?
Now put a hover conversion on it and you won’t need roads. 😂
I’d love get one
Imagine time traveling like in BTTF...
These things were heavy, they were slow, and are totally strange. But I love them, they’re so interesting. And I can find them around me for less than a corvette. I’d love to throw a cool engine into one and drop a fiberglass body in it and make it into a fun car. These things are cool.
Actually, they are not heavy. Myth.
It's not a heavy car, and it already has a fiberglass underbody.
Please No Back to the Future References....Too late!! I already did.
What It's Like To Own A DeLorean? Well It'll be just like Back To The Future!
It’s a shame that the DeLorean didn’t partner up with Honda for their engines. They definitely would have been a knock out of the park!
The issue with that is Honda wasn't the Honda we knew in the late 70's. About the only company that could do what DeLorean was looking for at the time would be Porsche, and I'm not sure they'd help. What also sucks is the first turbo PRV engine came out right after the company folded in 1984.
What Seats do you have Jayce

Anyone else really want to get a delorean rn but are broke? XD
He says he got his for 5 grand.
Very low price. Then he says market value is about 12.
Not much. But they are hard to find at that price. 20 grand they are easier to find.
I meant the market value at the time I got it was about 12. This was almost 7 years ago. They have risen since then
Can you travel through time when you go 88 mph?
The 83 models are not build by consolidated. Are 82 models revVined to be 83 and sell them as a new model year. No vin plate after dec 1982.
Back to the future lol
Gorgeous
EddieX...Are you interested in making an unboxing/tutorial Video about Car phone holder?
I want one
I am a proud owner of a delorean.
6240 here
You spend hours fixing something just for something else to brake on your next drive
Unfortunately, once Chapman was sourced to engineer and manufacture the vehicle, the delorean was limited in its performance. There was no way Chapman was going to produce a competitors vehicle to outperform his own lotus vehicles, so it ended up with the 130hp Renault engine. The frame of the vehicle is just too soft in bending and torsion, so it is not stiff enough for any serious engine power or performance driving. Finally, the body is constructed of a plastic injection molded upper and lower structure that is bonded together with the stainless steel stamped panels bonded to that structure. The crashworthiness of this vehicle is not very good, as evidenced by a recorded barrier crash test of the vehicle which is also on RUclips. A real death trap on wheels, not very safe.
The engine wasn't a result of Chapman. It was the only one they could find for the money they had and passed US emissions test.
The delorean owner looks like pacho from Narcos
How tall are you guys? I just want to know for reference for the allegations of the DeLorean having crappy field of vision. I am shorter so my assumption is that if you are shorter you can see more.
I’m 6’3”
John DeLorean was 6'4 and wanted a sports car he could fit in. I've heard that besides the louvers on the rear window, the lower window frame can be a pain if you're as tall as the lower frame.
Very nice video and Jayce, nice car man. Love the upgrades yo have done to yours. Enjoy, from vin #4328
What an utter failure this car was. Reliability issues, drove like a tank. Nostalgic though from Back to the Future movies. Haven’t seen one in ages now. At least it didn’t rust.
Jealous 🙂
I sat in this car at a car show in 2021 he let me sit in it
You boys need to watch the movie " back to the future "
The interior would look sick with like a C3 corvette swap or something

Oh, please! The only reason why somebody would get a DeLorean would be for the attention. Don’t fool yourself. Great video, though.
Most v6 engines sound like an engine with an exhaust this guy is so arrogant anyone could tell in the first 6 minutes
