That one actually performs like a mint condition Delorean. The Delorean, as much as I love the car, really is just mediocre when it comes to performance. Comparing this Delorean to another DMC 12, it works perfectly. Comparing this Delorean to just about anything else, and you see it really suffer. Of course, the car is very spacious, comfortable, provides a good ride experience (If you can get past the minimal power and speed that the engine produces, which ive heard that people completely forget about due to the fact that, ya'know, your in a freaking Delorean), and also, with a purchase of a flux capacitor and some plutonium, can take you on a journey across the time space continuum, so I will definitely try and by one when I save up the funds.

Nah man. A modern V6 should do the job nicely
One of the biggest problem with this car is its engine, the infamous PRV 90-degree V6. This engine was the result of a joint venture between Peugeot, Renault and Volvo (hence the PRV name) in the very early 1970s.
At this time, all of these manufacturers wanted bigger, more modern engines, so they decided to put their resources together to design a shared platform. I insist: the PRV was a *platform* not an *engine*. Well, not exactly.
The idea was to share a *common design* between a V6 and a V8 in order to cut costs - same cylinder displacement, same design, *same 90-degree V shape*.
Therein lies the rub... while a V8 is naturally balanced at a 90-degree angle, a V6 is naturally balanced at a 60-degree angle.
There are ways to deal with the structural issues that come with a 90-degree V6 such as having a different crankshaft and/or crankpin design, adding balancer shafts.
However, Peugeot, Renault and Volvo decided *not* to do that... so the V6 PRV is naturally unbalanced and vibrates a lot.
This was improved in later years: the design of the crankshaft was changed... but it was probably too late.
That being said, many people say the PRV V6 engine is junk, and it really isn't. It was really robust and had a surprisingly long career (until 1998!). And the latest, improved versions were actually much better than the original engine from 1974.
The PRV was even turbocharged on the Alpine A610 (250hp, 350Nm/258ft-lb torque) and other cars as well.
However, it's not a *great* engine either... no one really loves the thing.
What happened to the planned PRV V8? 1973 and 1979 oil crisis.
So in the end, the V8 version of the PRV platform, the whole reason why a 90-degree angle was chosen, was stillborn...
Now, this idea in itself isn't stupid, quite the opposite! It makes a lot of sense and I can work great... if done right.
Mercedes did exactly this with its M112 (V6) / M113 (V8) engines.
The 90-degree M112 V6 is a really good engine. But Mercedes did it right and added balancer shafts from the start...
Thanks for the info! Helped a lot...

It cost you thousands because you were paying for Wizard's learning curve on the car. Wizard seems like a awesome and very capable guy, however had you taken it to an experienced DeLorean mechanic your bill would have been thousands and thousands less. The automatics were terrible all-around. I've rebuilt quite a few of the auto transmission computers, and in fact designed an built a solid state replacement. DMCH has a similar version available as well. The swap-out takes ~30min and would have saved you a ton of time and money. The cold start issue is a 20 cent O ring fix that takes 10min. The doors take about an hour, maybe two to align if needed. Speedo angle drive is a simple fix, as it the fuel system and fuel gauge. These are all things an experienced DeLorean mech would have recognized immediately.

That was because of safety regulations AFAIK. The 5mph crash bumper requirement
After owning the Delorean it’s time to by another hooptie equivalent. I think a Bricklin SV-1 would be a great choice.
I'm getting American Dad / Stan Smith searching across the country for a de'lorean door vibes here ! 😅
There *is* an upside: you coulda bought a Bricklin. . .
is that your wifes new car at 6:45?
probably not
that is his M63 Merc wagon it has been on some videos and his wife is NOT getting a new car she was in the video about the pregnancy at the end and told him no she wants her car that entire thing was a joke
@@engir63 time to fit Child seat in rolls royce

@@jda79 OK, I did not get that from the video while watching it I was thinking why would get rid of her car when you have a van and a rolls but then when he taped the kid to the trunk instead of in the trunk where they belong i knew it was a joke video.
you don't have to buy the cheapest in the USA of anything for me to watch. Buy value and we'll still watch my friend. I like your stable of cars and that YOU enjoy them....and share with us.
Travel back to the past and never buy it haha
or warn John Z he's a target of the Feds
Would hoovie even exist today then? If He hadnt a delorean he couldnt come Back then 🤔
I also agree, the Delorean is indeed one of the most beautiful cars made to date, 100%. And this coming from a Supra owner😉
I got a Celica by myself and yes, besides both cars (supra and Little Sisters Celica) the Delorean is indeed one of the most beautiful cars ever made 🤟🏼
yeah man.. I wanted supra but now I want DeLorean more xD just a cool looking car
"But not now..." yeah Hoovie, I hear you. Been there myself. Bought my second DeLorean back in 95 for about what you paid. Have spent that much since then on it, but with all the drawbacks, I still don't want to let it go. Both of ours are worth at least what we have in them, so you didn't do bad at all in the final analysis. Yes, without the "failure " of DMC. The cocaine trial, and the Back to the Future movies it wouldn't have quite the appeal. But there is no experience like owning one of these. You can have a car that will outperform this ten times over..but no one will want thier picture taken with it either. If they even care. Just think, if John Z. Had succeeded further, worked out the bugs in this car from the start and a form of it was still in production today, it would be just another car...like a Tesla.
At least deloreans don't think themselves to death like tesla's
Agreed @Mitch Salawine. I have zero intention of letting mine go even with the drawbacks.
When i take mine to car shows, i cant even go enjoy any other peopels cars because i get mobbed to death. It was cool at first as i love educating people about the car, but between people touching and trying to sit in or on it, the never ending fingerprints on the stainless and me arguing with people over the history, facts about the car they have wrong or incorrect info about john delorean, i give up. So now I just take my esprit or my miata to shows instead, people can be buttheads, bwuahaha
I remember seeing one as a kid back in the 80s near where I live, was like a spaceship in between all the other euro cars!
A Delorean no matter how terrible people say they are will still turn more heads than a Ferrari
I know you're $29k into the car but 8 ads in an 11 min video :(
balaclava351 none of mine played lol they only do if I rewind
Im running a Raspberry Pi Hole add blocker and all I see are the place holders where the ads should be...
You’re missing your flux capacitor.
Honestly, the whole time machine kit kinda ruins the car.

You should have modified it when it was in the 1800's, it would have been alot cheaper....
This video popped up when looking for historical Delorean prices... man I cant believe how many cars you've got to own, I forgot you ever had a Delorean. Always always love the channel but this was such a great era of Hoovies Garage. I'm gonna have to go back and watch some old videos now.
I got my own Delorean now! 😁 (It’s a 1:24 scale BTTF 2 model with movable flying wheels) 🤓😁🥰
The nameplate on the grill should have said, "Doesn't Run DMC"
I owned a Delorean for about 35 years. Loved the car, kept it in mint condition. Drove it all over and made friends within the owners club. Finally sold it (sadly) because it’s so low to the ground, it’s a younger man’s car to get in and out of. Was very happy to own it and a new owner is enjoying it now.
Worked for Bill Kobach Buick, Topeka Kansas in 1983 and we were also the Delorean dealer. We could not give these cars away. I can't tell you how many test drives I went on that people were so disappointed in performance they bought something else. The entire new and used sales staff ended up driving Deloreans because there was a program for demo cars that you wouldn't lose as much money when they finally sold.
No regrets when you go with your heart. 😁
7:11 please adjust for inflation Hoovie
call daddy doug he will teach you
Next week:
My Delorean is broken again
I had a 83 5 speed. It wasn’t fast but handled nice. John Deloreans attorney was my dads. My dad called me one day back in 1989 and I went to his attorneys office. John was there and signed my glove box door. I have a bunch of pictures from that day. Very nice guy. At that time he was wanting to build another car.
Where did you get the cheesy music that started playing when you drove out of the garage? It's amazing!!
From his wii game.
I still remember the story of Johnny Carson driving his then brand new Delorian the street where it broke down. Story goes he got out threw the keys to someone and went and bought a Corvette... Don’t know if it’s true but it sounds legitimate.
It's true I was that guy
Seriously you have Johnny Carson’s car?
Nope. I got in it, thought what a piece of junk, tried the keys, didn't start, and threw them at the next guy I saw. He looked pretty happy, I walked away, never looked back, figured that was as happy as he was ever gonna be with that car, figured that was how I'd like to remember him.
Cigarettes made me cough. Vaping cleared it up in about two weeks.
Don’t know why anyone would do either. You shouldn’t put anything in your lungs that doesn’t belong there.
European spec Delorean had 160 bhp, US emissions requirements really massacred the car.
Sweet
BTW - I had the pleasure of meeting John Delorean in Los Alamitos, CA - very nice man and happy to chat about cars.
you must be old as fuck. he died when i was 5
@@yammmit If you think 54 is old? Then I guess I am. I hope you make it that far with some class - though I doubt it.
If you ever get stopped I’m one of those be praying the officer doesn’t tell you to step out of the vehicle, he will think the car itself is a weapon!
Bricklin: "I sold my car idea to the government of New Brunswick and pissed away $4.5million in 2 years." ...... Delorean: "Hold my Guinness."
Hookers and blow are expensive or so ive heard....
Bricklins are much worse vehicles all around, from build to value...they arent even worth what people paid for them new.
