Absolutely! The reason Alekhine was a great winner was that he was confident of his powers of reasoning, foresight and visualising. He was the greatest ever. And he knew it!
Hi I need to say a huge thanks to this channel. It really helped my developed my sharpness at games. I recommend it for all beginners and intermediate players. Thanks!
Off topic, and probably a silly question, but... When you talk about 'the most played move...' in a given situation... What happens if we play a whole game like that? The most popular opening (I'd guess E4?), the most popular defence for that opening, then the most common response and so on and so forth until we reach something that's either only been played once or has a common/predictable end. Who is winning/won?
Well, there never is only one most popular move in a given position. Every position (unless extremely sharp) can have different tactical or positional ideas that can be played; it's a matter of personal preference. But assuming you follow a game exactly the same as it's been played before using the top moves, you'll reach the same result as the previous player (win, loss or draw). The thing is in an average 30 move game there is about 10^80 different playable positions and about 10^120 possible positions (although most 10^60 of them would come about from silly moves). Just let than number sink in for a moment. The solar system will be long gone before humanity has a chance to play even a fraction of them.
You can only have one most popular move. One move has to have been played more than any other, in any given position (barring the unlikely scenario where two have been played exactly the same amount of times, unless the number of games in that position are really low). I think the point of this is, there has to be a full game that has also been played more than any other as well as a result.
3lPadrin0 There must always be a 'most popular' move - the one most played by professionals in tournaments, for example, can be quantified in the record books. Maybe it breaks down after 10 or 20 moves or so into the game and just follows the one example. I'm just wondering how far we'd get, what that board would be like, who's in the best position, etc. Come to think of it, that method would probably lead to a common blunder on behalf of one of the players...
I went as far as I could in the chess.com game explorer, just by clicking the top move each time. Funnily enough, I got as far as move 22, where only 3 games had reached that position, and all three games had a different next move. One was a win for white, one was a win for black, and one was a draw. Seems pretty appropriate!
That traffic jam on the e, f, and g files is memorable all by itself. It looks as if the opening pawn sacrifice is sound. Fischer said many times that he feels the Winawer variation is inherently unsound. Where does opinion stand at the moment?
Whilst I am not Mato, let alone Fischer, I would say the Winawer is sound enough for most players, though I always enjoyed the White side of it (prefering the Najdorf Poisoned Pawn as Black for myself). Maybe not the opening of choice if you want a draw as Black, there are enough traps and sharp lines for most players to get a good game from it if they need to win as Black...and it has to be less well known than the Ruy Lopez Berlin Defence to club players.
***** Like the Poisoned Pawn Najdorf Sicilian Poisoned Pawn, the Winawer is best played against players who prefer quiet openings and closes positions, they are instantly uncomfortable, and if you are stronger anyhow, that can be decisive on its own.
5:33 line Alekhine would win another pawn back almost immediately as well with Bd8 attacking c7 pawn and if black trades N for B then it's 2 pieces against 1 which is even worse than 3 against 2.
@@MatoJelic Jesus is one of the mightiest messenger of God , he was praying to God (his God) to save him from the crusifixion Mr. Mato i think you are more intelligent then that don't believe in something blindly (he was helpless without his God),By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.(John 5:30), the question how he can save you and he couldn't save himself?
No. Then rook on g6 would be moved up to block. If white queen then takes that rook, black queen would have a direct line on it and would be able to take queen and not be lost. The outcome would change to queen for queen at the best in that scenario, where as it is now its queen and rook for queen.
Nimzowitsch was a great player, but he wasn't strong enough for giants like Alekhine or Capablanca. Same as Artemiev vs Carlsen compared to nowadays...
To win against me, you must beat me three times: in the opening, the middlegame and the endgame.
- Alexander Alekhine
No doubt he was drunk to say such nonsense. He often was.
Absolutely! The reason Alekhine was a great winner was that he was confident of his powers of reasoning, foresight and visualising. He was the greatest ever. And he knew it!

Hi Mato, have you considered doing lectures on games sent in by fans if you run out of games by famous people?
I will not live long enough to run out of games of famous people. In fact I am only scratching the surface so far.
well, we wish you looong life)
Hi Mato, thanks a lot for spectacular videos!
lol, Alekhine had 3 pins going by 4:53, attacking the King, Queen and Rook at the same time.

+3lPadrin0 what if we setup two computers that play the best move every time, what do you think would happen?

BTW the expression is "Pardon my French" and then say an expletive...
"I crushed Nimzowitsch." How many players could say that?
love you mato and alekhain
All pieces pinned! What more to play? Pawn hunting is a bad strategy against Alekhine!
Maestro Alekhine!
Yes! Alekhine again ;)
@1:30; the position reminds me a little of the Ryder Gambit
y not play a waiting move at before resigning?
Super style
5:33 line Alekhine would win another pawn back almost immediately as well with Bd8 attacking c7 pawn and if black trades N for B then it's 2 pieces against 1 which is even worse than 3 against 2.
Did you noticed that bishop can PIN the queen
hahahaha
Mato- please become president of the united states. I am not joking. Ok maybe a little- but maybe you could save us.

At 3:36 (not looking ahead) I would play Knight to C6 as black.
If Nc6, then Bb5 pinning the N with a discovered attack on the Q.
Very clever; you must have a higher rating than me. How can you find out what your rating is? I just watch these videos for fun.
At 5:00 couldnt he just play queen takes pawn on h7 checkmate?
black queen to g7
No. Then rook on g6 would be moved up to block. If white queen then takes that rook, black queen would have a direct line on it and would be able to take queen and not be lost. The outcome would change to queen for queen at the best in that scenario, where as it is now its queen and rook for queen.

2:07 qf7 wouldnt happen because bb2
That voice tho.
