Well, we're living on borrowed time, Lord
Can you give us another day?
Yes, we're living on borrowed time, Lord
Can you give us another day?
Our chance of survival is slim, it's what they say
Yes, we're living on borrowed time, Lord
Can you give us another day?
We gotta hold ourselves together, but there ain't no guarantee
We gotta hold ourselves together, but there ain't no guarantee
Our chance of survival is slim, many plea
We gotta hold ourselves together, but there ain't no guarantee
Yes, I've seen many people down on their knees to pray
Yes, I've seen many people on their knees to pray
They say our chance of survival is slim, it's what they say
Yes, we're living on borrowed time, Lord
Can you give us another day?

Jimmy Karstein, drummer, percussionista extraordinaire should still be working with the RED DIRT RANGERS in & around Tulsa...

Rocky Frisco candidate for Tulsa, OK city council as Libertarian on keyboards as he played on many a fine Cale Band tour from low-class roadhouses to finest concert halls and way too big sports stadia.....
This track from under-rated Cale album "Closer to You" was a co-write with bassist Tim Drummond (of many a Neil Young tour and great R&B session work, check Neil's account in the biography book of Young called "SHAKEY"), Cale's drumming long running road partner Jim Karstein who like Cale never quite left Tulsa OK, Cale's creative partner Christine Lakeland and I think mebbe even Ry Cooder from jams Cooder and Cale enjoyed with Christine and Karstein in the back-room cabaret of Santa Monica guitar shop and music lesson studio McCabe's (see the night posted to U. of Tube where Tom Petty & Heartbreakers joined Cale's tight combo for some fun on that musical instrument lined-wall and music room's cramped stage........)
Miss em all, even if Christine is still alive and hopefully ready to release her lifetime's eclipsed trove of songwriting credits waiting to liven up some new blues or soul diva's set..........

You mean Ry Cooder occasionally joined J. J.?

@@STFDVC1 Check out the back room clips from McCabes posted by Jesús PV and Colfbrn like this cookin' jam on New Years' Eve I believe 1981 out there on Santa Monica Blvd in the guitar shop's back room cabaret, coolest room anywheres on Pacific Coast:

Can't say for sure if Ry Cooder is sitting in on these particular McCabe's Back Room jams. You should know though that he was among the early high school guitar students to take lessons at McCabe's and then graduate to a recording career and long tenure headlining and jamming with the other greats at McCabe's! Enjoy........

@@STFDVC1 If Cooder ever did join Cale's Combo onstage it would've been at McCabe's Guitar Shop where Cooder took lessons, but not from Cale who did love playing in the back-room cabaret of the instrument store out there in West LA near Santa Monica. When I confused folks with this note about Cooder participating, it would've been in the making of the song out of a Cale Combo with Christine Lakeland, Jim Karstein and Rocky Frisco who I think shared a songwriting credit on that very quickly made album (by Cale standards and high cost of recording in the Big Room at the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood), wonderfully fresh songwriting on that album titled CLOSER TO YOU.
Having said that, Cale's Combo also shared heart disease recuperating session reeds legend Steve Douglas along with bassist Tim Drummond who passed away, Spooner Oldham on keyboards and of course Tulsa Time drummer Jim Keltner (who Cale occasionally used if Jimmy Karstein had other gigs booked when Cale and Christine Lakeland decided they were ready for roadwork). Keltner lived and hung in So Cal while Karstein remained based back in Tulsa, but he was Cale's #1 pocket drummer and various perc recording and gigging artist of choice when the Cale Combo or Christine's solo blues band The Code were touring on the cheap and sharing driving in a van instead of a Cale-preferred musicians' touring coach. Keltner of course came up on Tulsa Time too and he really was closer to the
commercial needs and scheduing of the media recording scene in L.A. as so many album credits will attest.
Personally, I'm with John and Christine in preferring now deceased along with Cale, Z"L Rest In Play drummer\percussionist\touring storyteller after gigs who I hope left a memoirs manuscript before he headed for that big Green Room in the Sky, namely Jimmy Karstein (who sometimes like to add some mystique by gigging under the name Jose Murdoch). Those Tulsa folks were such human delights
(when like the rest of US they were sleep-deprived and cranky.....) Keep searching on U. of Tube more A\V clips of their road gigs and home base rehearsals get posted every day by one or more of the Tulsa Time crew who decamped to L.A. after Leon Russell their high school mate started getting regular work with the L.A. wing of the Wrecking Crew session players. Way more commercial work there than anywhere else outside of Paris.
They never got around or wanted to put this on a record while so many of these Tulsa Time born and bred players were still alive, perhaps this was their clubhouse pass key for gaining entry: This was the songwriting DNA and RNA modus operandi as per warm-up jams for paying session work....
Gimme that backbeat\We'll take it from there
      There ain't no bridge\There ain't no verse
Beatin' this guitar for all I'm worth
There ain't no song or melody
      This ain't no rhapsody
      Why?
      I wanna repeat:
"Ain't nothin' here but the backbeat..."
      Bone
      Rhythm Bone
      Bone
      Rhythm Bone
