Or you can take the exact opposite viewpoint: The universe is immense, but you, me and every single person ever alive have been trapped in the smallest, tiniest, minuscule dust particle so infinitely small that it could disappear any moment and nothing else would change at all. All humans are right now crammed together in an itty-bitty piece of rubble that might or might not be the only, last and single safe spot to life in an infinitely deadly void without boundaries. And we still have no safe way out of here. We're trapped. We're all forever be trapped. And the more time passes, the further and further away everything else will become. In a very relativistic sense, there's no difference between the universe getting larger, and us becoming smaller and smaller every second it passes. 😈

quite the opposite because you are still trapped inside the reach of earth. calustrophobia is mostly about freedom of movement, just like fear of height is mostly about surface to stand on rather than the actual height. you can be claustrophobic inside a cealed off stadium, or fear of height on a narrow pole 5 meters above surface.
and you may rest easy knowing that there might be even far more calming things out there that we dont know of yet, because it is so far away it didnt have yet time to calm us.
If you're ever feeling insignificant in the face of such vastness, just remember we, as well as all things on our planet have direct connections to the wider universe. We're literally made from star dust. We all have a piece of the universe within us. We were born from the stars and thus we will return to the stars when it is our time. We are the universe.

It's kind of comforting to be honest. I like to imagine that some alien dude is just going through the difficulties of life just like I am, wondering if there are other life forms out there in the vast universe that he can relate to.

Well it can't see "beyond the visible" but yes it will likely expand what IS visible for us.
Your story reminds me when I went to Israel for the first time and we as a group slept out in the desert one night. Our tour guide took us on a walk for about a mile at night and we were smack in the middle of a desert alone, told us to all find some private space, sit down and look up at the stars and just think. Be there in the moment and reflect on whatever you wish. I cannot describe to you how insane and powerful the stars looked in a true night sky with the cool desert wind blowing and hearing the sand moving across itself. It was so peaceful, quiet, and mesmerizing. It will be a moment in time I will never forget.
Great story! Thanks for sharing that with us. Life is so crazy and moves so fast. Definitely need moments like this to just sit and reflect on the bigger picture sometimes. Ferris Bueller was right, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." 🙂

The crazy part is this needs updated. A lot of what he said is a lot bigger and further than previously thought lol and we're actually 25 thousand light years closer to our Black hole than we thought. No wonder we haven't seen any aliens, we gave them the wrong address lol

I =ABSOLUTELY= recommend looking up the full version of Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" speech. He was a famous astrophysicist that hosted a show called "Cosmos" that revolutionized how documentaries were made, nevermind his calm and soothing voice, and ability to make complex science issues easily understandable.

What I always find fascinating is how some people believe that life only exists on Earth.
Considering how unbelievably large the universe is it is impossible with mathematical certainty that Earth is the only planet that has developed life. The question is not IF life exists elsewhere, the questions are where and when life exists/existed elsewhere.
Also its possible that we have literal clones with the exact same atomic and genetic make up somewhere out there aswell
And if we will ever know for certain or find life or if it is too far away for us to get to 🤔

no it is not. the milky way doeant exist. you cant see light in space so no one would ever be able to see it anyway. you can only see light when gross matter is involved, such as the earth or moon. so you will not even see the sun in space yet alone the stars. we are not a tiny speck in the middle of no where. in space the only thing you would see is the planets. nothing else. so the "universe" is not like they state. it does not exist.

The universe is vast and mysterious but, humans (or intelligent, conscious, life in general) are the vector through which the universe discovers itself and we have so much work to do.
I used to drive a gas tanker at night on the country back roads in Tennessee and Mississippi and I would pull over and look at the stars many times. It was so amazing you see so many thousands of stars.

Not quite Chicago, but when I was real little my great grandfather would push me out on a stroller in Taylorville Illinois and show me the constellations. He was an Italian immigrants and WWII airforce pilot (for the US don't worry) and he said they had a saying that I'm gonna do my best to spell out here "Trova le dissovente tra la stelle" Which roughly means "Find the fade beyond the stars" Unlike most people who grew up speaking 2 languages I'm bad at both and don't learn new ones well at all. 4 years of French and I only remember how to ask for sex. Anyway way point being was even in a universe with a seemingly infinite amount of stars who's light seems overwhelming there's still always a place or opportunity for someone to become a star themselves and create a light all their own without blending in to other.
Also as a numbers person who just always liked space a lot of these numbers are still crazier then most people think. Like a single AU is 93 million miles. I don't even like walking the 0.01 miles from my couch to my fridge. But then even the difference between just a million and a billion I don't think people recognize. You live a million seconds in your first week of life, you don't live a billion seconds until your 30s. Somewhere in 32 or 33 I believe. I forget. The craziest thing ever and you can Google this it's a less than a minute read. I in my college economics class however many years ago was taught the Staircase analogy. This ties in well to the Bezos comment. If you measure any individuals net worth in increments of 500 thousand I think it was. Maybe it was 50 thousand. I just woke up don't judge, I've got tired brain. 99% of american is on the first or maybe struggling to get on the second step, but then a billionaire is on the I think 11th. And then Jeff Bezo is so high it doesn't even make sense to use steps anymore but miles. And Bezos is as high as 24 consecutive mount Everest. Numbers be wild.
Edit: I felt in my gut something was off and my numbers on the staircase were way wrong. It's the upper middle class average American that gets to the 11th step and a billionaire is on the ten thousandth step. Tire brain strikes again. Not gonna change it though, I made my choice lol.
We get tired brain all the time so we aren’t judging. Also, “I only learned how to ask for sex” is what everyone has to admit after trying to use Duolingo during the lockdown to learn another language 😂 My dad was Mexican but never spoke Spanish. He grew up in an Italian neighborhood and would swear in Italian. I don’t think his parents really spoke to him in Spanish because they wanted him to assimilate. Long rambling story short, my Spanish sucks so much that I can’t even ask for sex in it 😂🤗

Awesome video, have always loved space and the sheer vastness of it. It's why I fully believe that there are indeed other alien species out there. If life can evolve on our one tiny planet, why not others. We wouldn't know otherwise, how in the world could we? Used to love gazing up at the stars when I was younger, growing up in rural Wisconsin I could actually see quite a few. It wasn't until moving to and living in a bigger city like Nashville as an adult that I now get to experience the weirdness of a near starless sky. Anyways, fun time with you guys as always, until next time!
We almost moved to Nashville but didn’t work out in the end. It’s fun to think about this big universe kind of stuff once in awhile to forget about the day to day stuff that can cause stress 😊🥳

To put a bit more into perspective with the way the speed of light and imagery works... any aliens that are only 80 light-years away that might have discovered our planet and able to see what's happening - they're witnessing WWII happening.
Likewise, any aliens 65 million light-years away would be seeing the extinction of the dinosaurs.
It amazes me people don't see this stuff as anything short of amazing.
Hopefully 2022 means the world can finally get back to normal!

I’m a huge space nerd (annoys my wife), but I agree with your general takeaway. I don’t know why we are that way, but we’ve always been explorers; curious about what and why and how. Practically since the dawn of mankind we’ve been looking at what else we can check out.
If we boom in an asteroid, won’t be any left to care anyways.

Happy to. We all know life is finite, it’s fun to enjoy the time we have. Looking up at the stars is like looking at the ocean. It was impossible to get to America, until it wasn’t. I will probably die long before it happens, but some day a human will visit another star.
At the time school was very obnoxious, but in hindsight it was kind of awesome. Learning is fun and our next learning experience is out there.

We are all so small and insignificant. And humanity is so wrapped up and concerned with petty ideals and arguments, focused on trying not to offend someone, discriminating over race, sex, orientation, and status. We could wipe ourselves out and the universe would never even know. Time would go on and so would the lives of everything else out there.
If we could just figure out how to travel at half the speed of light. It would still take 8+ years to get to our nearest star neighbor 👀😳

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 : Here's another thing that's crazy: Even if you had instant travel to the far reaches of the universe with the snap of a finger or a thought, you could not come close to (even just visiting for one second each) visiting each star in the KNOWN universe, even if you lived one million times a trillion years and spent every second of that visiting stars.
@@remo27 The problem I have with Star Trek is that while travelling they don't factor time dilation into its measurements. In Voyager they get lost by 70,000 light years and they have Warp 10 which is supposedly 10 times the speed of light. But somehow traveling through space takes THEM time to get to places which is just isnt true. Even at light speed, they should reach other places instantaneously due to time dilation. At the end they reach home with hardly any years gone by on Earth which simply isnt true. Even at light speed, it would take those on board the ship less than 1 second to reach Earth, but Earth would be 70,000yrs older!! At 10 times Light speed, Earth is 7000yrs older!
The feeling is like a person reach the top of Everest mountain and claiming that he/she climbed the highest mountain and then realize that planet Mars have a higher mountain. Also like a fish from puddle goes to ocean.

i have a really bad feeling that. What if the world will end??... there will be nothing..... Nothing to feel, see ,experience...I feel sad because if we end up dying and everything vanishing... That is something that is somewhat out of your control. We can do what we can like trying to reduce greenhouse gases and what not but don’t fret about it too much. Be concerned but don’t let it consume you.🤗

Don`t get me wrong.. a true A.I could be dangerous.
It can be dangerous. But you need to have a really good A.I. first. We just have some kind that can beat people in chess. But since humans can't be perfect...and make mistakes, that's a calculation you have to program into the A.I.. And what is the most improbable, that you give an A.I the power to make desicsions over human life.
A self-driving car, has only the chance to turn left or right. Left is a granny. On the right is a child. If we do that..then we give an AI the desceid the value of life. And nothing is more valuable than a life. 1 is worth exactly as much as 1.000.000.
We both agree. No way we are alone. There is so much out there it is impossible that our planet was the only one capable of sustaining life. Wonder how many more elements are out there in the universe as well. 🤔 It’s fun to theorize about this stuff 🤓🥳

Which team that loses all of his 10 members, theire universe shall be erased.

Rather than being amazed at how much we don’t know.. I’m always equally amazed at what we do know.. Our galaxy shape, the Virgo super cluster, and the number and size of the observable universe.. Humans stand apart from all other life on earth because of our urge to learn and discover.. We have come a long way. As for whether there is life out there.. my feelings are, it would be harder for life NOT to be out there. Life finds away, we simply cannot be a fluke, a one off.. The universe is teeming with life. Question is, will we ever know about it?
We will never know it all. But you are right that what we have learned is indeed impressive but knowledge changes. Love that quote in Men In Black “Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. It keeps me grounded when I feel life gets to complicated. We feel significant & self important on this 'huge' planet we call home.. but in reality, we are so incredibly small & insignificant when viewed against the back drop of the Universe. I also like the quote in the film 'Contact' - "The universe is a pretty big place. If its just us, seems like an awful waste of space"
It's insane how enormous the universe is. It would be so sad and depressing if our species is THE only highly intelligent species in the universe. The universe is so enormous that there's gotta be other highly intelligent species in the universe even though most of space is lifeless. I want to take a trip to space someday at least once in my lifetime which is one of my lifelong dreams but my lack of money makes that impossible for me to achieve that dream in real life which is another reason why i can't stand money but am glad that i can experience space virtually at least. If i could fly and could survive the vacuum of space' i would definitely fly up into space anytime i want without money.

On our own planet there’s other intelligent life, maybe not at our level, but it’s there. Elephants mourn their dead, dolphins know who they are, dogs actively protect, snakes defend. It’s all around us, it never happened anywhere else? Ever? Nah.

When looking at the size of and scale of the universe the question "do you believe in aliens?" becomes a joke, its downright impossible for there not to be life out there. But we will probably never meet them, no green skin big booba alien girlfriends for us i guess...
Haha yeah there is no way there isn’t other life. But to think they are more advanced than us or would even want to meet us is the real debate 🤔
I got into astronomy young, as a kid I had no issues knowing for a fact there was other life and other civilisations out there, we were here so there you go thats the proof.
However plenty of the other kids couldn't think about it, most just thought of ET and UFOs and many just said "there is nothing out there" and they thought that I was mad for thinking otherwise.

We are tiny compared to the universe. But then I think that, in terms of scale, it is a greater factor to zoom down from the human scale (1-2M) all the way down to the sub-atomic quantum scale. To me it is like there is more 'universe' to discover inside your body than outside of it...if you know what I mean :-)
The chemistry happening on our body is amazing indeed. When you think about how small an atom is and how many there are. 🤩🤯
